Search and Rescue call for 70 year old man missing in the wilderness

  • A 70 year old man drove into the Deschutes National Forest on morning and never came back out. So his family called the Central Oregon Land Cruisers club and asked if they could help look for him. The club then called me and asked if I could assist with my tracked Jeep. We knew where he entered the woods and where he was trying to get to, so we had a general idea of the area he should have been in.

Love the fact you do not charge for your services which in this day and age is a rare occurrence. I have been in the towing industry off and on for almost 30+ years and always tried to charge the least for my services. I used a 1993 F Duty wrecker, 7.3 Diesel with a 5 spd transmission, twin line winches and very aggressive tires and in all my years helping people up in northern MN I have never gotten stuck even once. If only people didn't speed due to false security of owning/using a 4x4! All vehicle's stop the same in poor road/weather conditions! What bugs me the most is folks who complain that they think my rates are to high yet they called for help in the middle of the night, far from any help. So many think a $20.00 dollar bill should cover the cost for help they require which blows my mind. I have did so many recoveries for free but I choose when I do this for people depending on they act, treat me as a person providing a service Lastly I did all of this after suffering a life changing accident where I was crushed severely and told I would never walk again! I may be slower than most but I love helping people. Stay safe everyone. Please use common sense before venturing out into far off places, PLEASE!

In this ice crusted snow the key is to not spin your tires. Stopping, then inching back and forth to pack yourself a base is far better than trying to carry momentum and getting yourself into a situation where you spin tires
