I am in the process of making a coloring book, I did research on kids psychology and what style and images would be the best for those designs, and with all the information and a lot of trial and error, I generated the coloring pages for the book with artificial intelligence. Since I am a graphic designer, I took the designs and redesigned them in Photoshop. Is that workflow considered AI-generated, or AI-assisted?
"AI-generated: We define AI-generated content as text, images, or translations created by an AI-based tool. If you used an AI-based tool to create the actual content (whether text, images, or translations), it is considered "AI-generated," even if you applied substantial edits afterwards."
Hi. Do you have any thoughts on using AI to generate (always edited & checked for plagurism) the description of the book for the sales page and the back cover of a public domain book. HOw would you deal with that? Would you consider the description on the back cover of a PD book to be a 'section' of the book?
Thank you for this post. There are so many posts on FB tell folks how to create AI-generated illustrations for coloring books for kids. I knew it was a matter of time before KDP woukd drop the hammer. So what happens to the AI generated books that are already on the market?
Good question. If I had some on Amazon I'd be concerned and probably remove them all to try and future proof myself. Or maybe update any good selling books with original works only if possible. But that's just me.
Thanks for the info and analysis ... don't take this the wrong way please, but I would suggest you invest in a decent mic to make your videos. one must check that their work from ai is also not plagiarised. If you rewrite and use ai, then completely check it for plagiarism as you normally would - " You are responsible for verifying that all AI-generated and/or AI-assisted content adheres to all content guidelines. For example, to confirm an AI-based tool did not create content based on copyrighted works, you're required to review and edit any AI tool outputs."

Ok perfect thank you. I don’t think Amazon will ever stop Ai generated books as long as they have quality content, human touch, editing and formatting. They want to make money too. Just my thoughts 😂
I knew it! Something told me not to waste my time using AI for KDP, because these POD sites (including RUclips) are always changing the rules. They just cracked down on non-human names, putting an end to one of my brands. It's incredibly frustrating. They will surely take this to the next step and ban it altogether.
Hey there, can you explain a bit on what you mean with that brand of yours? I'm curious about that. Was it the name of your brand that was somehow considered ai generated? (i mean, honestly, how can one know?) I'm coming from a marketing agency background, so I'm used for doing ideation on new company names, product brands, inhouse company department names etc. so this is a really sensitive topic for me. I can come up with super creative and clever names, but sometimes a plain written-out name is what it needs and it gets unique through its colors for example. Anyway, would be great to hear from you.
@@JulieK89 You suddenly can't have a pen name like "Brad's Books," for example, because that's a non-human name. It must be Brad Williams, or Brad J. Williams, or B.J. Williams, but not Puzzles & Pads. They haven't gotten to everyone, but they recently got to me and that was specifically the reason I could not publish my latest book.
I am a writer myself, not published yet but I do create my art through AI and unfortunately not many people, including Amazon fully understand how AI art is created. AI art is essentially digital art manipulation. Per my user agreement with the paid AI platform I use to create my art, the images are mine. I cannot copyright them unless I modify them further from their originals but the guidelines for modification are incredibly fluid and case by case basis. Digital art manipulators have been doing this since photoshop and other digital methods of art have come out, for more than two decades. I really hope Amazon doesn't get sued over this because I personally will not disclose my art is AI to them, I use a tool to make art and that's my perogative. Are they next going to force everyone who made art using the tool of photoshop to disclose that? I don't know much about AI text generation as I don't use it. So they may have something there, I don't know. As for art, I do believe they are wading into muddy waters requiring this. They should have a team that looks over the books in a general way, if they are low quality reject them, it matters not if they are AI or not.

Thanks for your opinion on what you think we should do, but yeah it might have been nice to know what the actual rules are.

There are some legal cases that question having any copyrights of AI images that did not have human input prior to it. Also I have spoken to a lawyer recently about this and he said one cannot claim copyrights over images not self created. *Not legal advice* *do your own research* . Having said that, if you don't claim copyrights and say it's ai generated during upload, that could still be okay for not it seems as long as it follows all other KDP rules and guidelines. *Not legal advice* *these are opinions only*
I knew it and did all of my 5 books by myself using Canva and their pictures cause I pay for pro version. So using Canva is not AI generated right? 😊 Thank you so much for your help!!! Always keep me up to date❤
Is there a way to remove your books altogether from even showing up on Amazon, I know we can unpublish, but I have some older ones when I first started that I would really like to remove because I was just starting and they are not good lol Recently I did a colouring book with AI and outsourced two to Fiverr and I know they used AI. Kills me to have to take them down :((
The best you can do is unpublish it. You could go one step further and unpublish the book, remove the back end keywords, remove the description, and change the cover to an empty design. But deleting it you cannot do.
I don't see any section that says they'll delete all the AI-generated products, they're only requiring to inform either it's AI-generated or assisted. No?
Great information Corvin, Thank You. I have a question and wondered if you could help, please. If using images from websites such as Creative Fabrica, is there a way to know if the images we use are made with AI or not? Thank You😀
Pleasure. And good question. You can reverse image search on Google for starters. Creative Fabrica was never my thing and becoming more and more questionable I think due to the exact question you have.
Google has a tool called SynthID that identifies AI-generated content. Creative Fabrica is flooded with AI content now. I'm wary of those types of sites, though. They say you have the rights, but do you really? I used one of these types of sites to create RUclips content and got a copyright claim anyway. That's why I would always search for font licenses whenever I bought fonts from Creative Fabrica to make sure everything was right.
I used AI to generate ideas for 3 "dialog" scenes in my 355-page novel. (not yet published) I credited AI appropriately. Are you suggesting that I rewrite those sections?
Per this seems like crediting ai to partial creation would be enough, but my opinion would be if you can re-write it fully yourself and make the book 100% self written, would probably be better especially long run. Might also avoid regrets later from you otherwise.
Calm your nerves down guys... A chat with a customer care representative revealed that it doesn't affect previously published book but if you want to republish based one or two changes. Then answer truthfully.
@@SelfPublishingTitans Sudowrite is AI. You can speed up research and then write the book yourself. So would that qualify as AI written with extensive editing if you do AI research? The issue is to what degree is it really bad?
Why do you think those books made with AI will be banned in future, is it paranoia ?, the purpose for those tools is to help you be more productive, for example writing descriptions for books in some kind of format you wish ?
I guess it will depend on the type of book, the contents, the quality, etc. And further KDP rules that will surely come out. Descriptions would be a different story for now at least I would think
People outsourcing will have to be vigilant! Ghostwriters and designers who are hired will also look to shorten their workload using Ai. There will have to be a declaration of Ai use when employing outside help for the production of your books.
What makes you so sure Amazon will take action against AI-created books? What are your assumptions based on? Personally, it seems to me that they'll just put some kind of label that the book was created with AI. To warn users. That's what stock image sites have done, for example. I'm sure it's stupid of Amazon to deny AI. They're just trying to integrate a new AI reality into their site.
I don't think I said exactly that they will take action against any AI books. What j am talking about is users creating terrible books with ChatGPT without checking or editing it. There was a recent news article about mushroom books. And there are other instances where where think they can write health related withs with AI and give medical advice and it ends up being the wrong advice. Or creating coloring books and having 6 legs on an animal instead of 4, etc. Lots of examples online about terrible experiences by readers / users. So those are the books I am talking about. Any book that the creator knows is not high quality I think they should remove, for the safety of their account and to the benefit of the customers. I think AI is here to stay, and myself really enjoy using it. This is more about taking down low quality books, and being thoughtful moving forward into the future and then being correct when marking a book AI created or not. I do agree with what you said. 🙂
Amz is just looking to maintain a good customer experience. I suspect they feel KDP will be flooded with uncultivated and unfiltered Ai generated content that will cause a negative customer experience.
I had been planning on doing coloring books. Not sure if I should proceed now. They did not outright say no, but that could happen if KDP is flooded with junk.@@SelfPublishingTitans
The trickedt thing about AI images is not being able to claim copyrights and if you do then potentially big troubles. So best start with original works and always edit a lot. Rules will become more clear I'm sure within the next months.
@@SelfPublishingTitans and what if you buy AI stock images from Adobe stock or Shutterstock and use them for a book cover? Since these stock sites allow AI generated images, there must be some short of copyright, right?
What if you buy stock images for the book, which were made with AI without knowing? Unpopular opinion: This is a never-ending story. And to mark AI content as such will not support creativity. You can be creative, do research, put a lot of effort and thoughts in your work and still use AI, because nobody can do everything alone (or pay for it). What this does is, to exclude people who have not much time or energy, because they work, have kids or other stuff happens to them. But what if, they also have to tell a story?! What if they know something really important to share or have a great creative mind to show? Do we really want to limit everything to people who can learn how to paint or have time to write? For me, excluding AI, is excluding creativity. And if you say: but there will be a lot of low-quality books out there. Look at it, there already are. So many people hiring a ghost writer on fiver, who writes the same story over and over again or using stock material for low content books . Better implement a good quality check.
It seems like this is the beginning of Amazon going to discriminate against people who have used AI in any way to generate their material. If they get people to self-declare it makes it easy for them to cut the content that was admitted to be created using AI in some way.
Personally, I will not read a book or view a media presentation created by AI. I am not interested in the "creativity" of a software robot. I know it will be hard to ban AI content, but at least it should be watermarked so discriminating readers like me can avoid artificial crap. If Amazon is moving in that direction, all the better. I have already cancelled my Kindle Unlimited account based on an article I read about how much AI-generated content has polluted the site.
All y’all are like Chicken Little! No, the sky is not falling, and AI has not been banned by KDP. Amazon wants information on how to proceed with this relative new technology, tool, what have you. This is a good thing. It will help weed out the crappy product lazy people put out. Having said that I do have some questions. How do you know if AI was used for an outsourced interior, cover, or a ghostwriter? Why does it even make a difference if you are putting out quality publications? Will they place a disclaimer on your books that it is AI generated? Would that hurt your sales if they did? All Amazon wants is to adhere to it’s content guidelines, and create a positive customer experience. AI can do that. It’s a tool that where someone has the controls on quality. Seriously, just be responsible, be honest in filling out there boxes, or don’t use AI if this really bothers you. You can use AI as a research tool as has been stated in many RUclips videos to assist in writing books, and not necessarily to be used as an end product. Example of technology, as I wrote this comment a lot of corrections popped up, does that disqualify it. Amazon has been successfully doing this for quite awhile now, let them sort things out! IMHO!!
Good question. When I read the guidelines it seemed to me it was more talking about the interior, but including cover would also make sense to me. On that I think we need a bit more clarity possibly.
@@SelfPublishingTitans Thanks for responding. It really is not very clear if the cover falls under that just like descriptions. I have only used it on a few covers, but will back off till they give a difinitive answer. Thanks again for the info
There are few things bigger than Amazon….but AI is bigger than them. I don’t actually use AI for books, but…..there are many AI images out there. So you could be using AI images and not even know it and therefore be not answering these questions correctly - but unknowingly.. AI is amazing, but we are far from the end goal where people are ok with it. AI is the future….but……no one really knows what that future is going to look like! AI is going to be hard to control.
i don't agree with that because if you do AI books and you sell them getting royalties it means that people like that books you did otherwise they wouldn't have bought them, secondly: when you do ai generated books you decide if that books is properly written or draw because you write the AI prompt, so ok that they're AI generated but you istruct the AI do do that, thirdly: many people wants to start self publishing business but if they haven't time to phisically write a book is right to use AI. this is my opinion.

I made word search book by using Chatgpt to generate words, then randomize the words. what should i do now? will i unpublish these word search book?
I think that's okay. The puzzle itself is not ai generated. (Just my thoughts, not advice)
Do you need to go in on low content books and do this updating? I don't see the same screen regarding "paperback content".
This applies to new books or books you update / republish

Description I think is all good, book cover I think would be part of the book.
Or at least a cheap lavalier ( $20-30) to get it close to you face and cut out most of echo and also to get a little bass in the track. Your suggestions are of benefit to me and my KDP account, I hope mine will help :)
you are totally right. I do have one but one of the pieces went missing while traveling and then we just bought another one but it is not working properly. So unfortunately will be like this a bit longer. :)
Pls will this new kdp rule affect already published books
It definitely can in future. Even now depending on possible violations and bad quality
one must check that their work from ai is also not plagiarised.
I understand the third arm thing with AI. But honestly if you're getting those images your prompts need some serious correction.
For sure. But that's just a tiny part of the dangers with KDP. The biggest thing is following the new rules and regulations.
@@SelfPublishingTitans What happens if the character image created by AI has no defect at all in the storybook and the children's book is perfect with the story entirely self-written although the images are of AI. Maybe cut out, think meant to say dishonest can get you in trouble. Saying it's not ai when it is.
Ok perfect thank you. I don’t think Amazon will ever stop Ai generated books as long as they have quality content, human touch, editing and formatting. They want to make money too. Just my thoughts 😂
@@katburgess2955 you could be right. I guess depends on how bad or good things get with AI books.
I knew it! Something told me not to waste my time using AI for KDP, because these POD sites (including RUclips) are always changing the rules. They just cracked down on non-human names, putting an end to one of my brands. It's incredibly frustrating. They will surely take this to the next step and ban it altogether.
Definitely more regulation and laws coming. AI is here to stay but within the correct lane I guess.
So they Anglo-Saxonized names? How is that not discriminatory? The whole Star Wars brand must be banned in that case. That's just overreach.
@@SelfPublishingTitans what is he "correct line"
I think you have some valid points.

Thanks for your opinion on what you think we should do, but yeah it might have been nice to know what the actual rules are.
I didn't say that. Main point is to be careful and only publish high quality AI books, don't publish without editing, remove any AI books that you published that you think is low quality. But much more covered in video

I hadn’t thought of removing keywords and change the cover! Thank you!

Can I still paraphrase using AI when writing summary books?
Summary books are not allowed on amazon, read the rules. Yes many do it but no worries their accounts will be terminated soon.
I would stay far far away from summary books. No matter how created.
I don't see any section that says they'll delete all the AI-generated products, they're only requiring to inform either it's AI-generated or assisted. No?
For now it does not say that correct.
How about a description using ChatGPT? Is that allowed?

Great information Corvin, Thank You. I have a question and wondered if you could help, please.
If using images from websites such as Creative Fabrica, is there a way to know if the images we use are made with AI or not? Thank You😀
Pleasure. And good question. You can reverse image search on Google for starters. Creative Fabrica was never my thing and becoming more and more questionable I think due to the exact question you have.
Thank You
@@SelfPublishingTitans How do you reverse image check?
Google has a tool called SynthID that identifies AI-generated content. Creative Fabrica is flooded with AI content now. I'm wary of those types of sites, though. They say you have the rights, but do you really? I used one of these types of sites to create RUclips content and got a copyright claim anyway. That's why I would always search for font licenses whenever I bought fonts from Creative Fabrica to make sure everything was right.
@@queen-aaria.brianoori4830 it's quite easy but best you search for on RUclips to visually see how to. Will be quicker
does a tittle or subtittle generated with ai consider as content or only the the cover in interiors consider as content
Good question. But one really shouldn't need to use AI to create a title. That's simple enough

@@SelfPublishingTitans Sudowrite is AI. You can speed up research and then write the book yourself. So would that qualify as AI written with extensive editing if you do AI research? The issue is to what degree is it really bad?

Seems like it. But you can always rewrite it and make it your own
Why do you think those books made with AI will be banned in future, is it paranoia ?, the purpose for those tools is to help you be more productive, for example writing descriptions for books in some kind of format you wish ?
I guess it will depend on the type of book, the contents, the quality, etc. And further KDP rules that will surely come out. Descriptions would be a different story for now at least I would think
People outsourcing will have to be vigilant! Ghostwriters and designers who are hired will also look to shorten their workload using Ai. There will have to be a declaration of Ai use when employing outside help for the production of your books.
Ya I agree with you on that.
It's already happening, that's why the change. Been some news articles about it.
I had been planning on doing coloring books. Not sure if I should proceed now. They did not outright say no, but that could happen if KDP is flooded with junk.@@SelfPublishingTitans
Are workbooks Excluded? You know they are mainly made of Prompts.
It depends if created with AI or not
Hi. Thanks for the update. What about book cover not the content? Hopefully you answer this.
Since these stock sites allow AI generated images, there must be some short of copyright, right?
doesn't matter if there is copyright or not, if kdp doesn't accept it, you're done.@@187designz

I think we all did
It seems like this is the beginning of Amazon going to discriminate against people who have used AI in any way to generate their material. If they get people to self-declare it makes it easy for them to cut the content that was admitted to be created using AI in some way.
I don't think that's why they are doing it. But let's see. Only time will tell
What about workbooks they are mainly made of prompts and chapter summary wouldn't that also be an issue
I guess if AI is used one has to claim so in the new ai questions as part of the upload process

You can use AI as a research tool as has been stated in many RUclips videos to assist in writing books,
and not necessarily to be used as an end product.
Example of technology, as I wrote this comment a lot of corrections popped up, does that disqualify it.
Amazon has been successfully doing this for quite awhile now, let them sort things out! IMHO!!
