By the time the FE comes out, the regular series can be found a bit cheaper.
Ya that lines up with my conclusion at the end talking about how aggressively Samsung tends to discount their phones.
@@MatthewMonizAndroid itself is a poor investment. Android is like Maserati, you don't want one. Samsung is solid though.
@@MatthewMonizhow low price can we expect for s23 after the launch of s24 considering s23fe just launched?
They should have skipped the s23fe and launched the s24fe (w/ 8gen2) alongside the s24(8gen3) series early next year. Releasing the fe too late in the year just messes up their lineup, its too close to the new S series which is gonna be 2gens ahead in terms of power.
@@fullbass1426Samsung always do this and yet for some reason in some market the FE line is appealing. Mainly becoz the Galaxy S line in these markets don't get heavily discounted making the FE lines more appealing to some people.
Matthew if you are wondering why the FE is performing different to the s23 in main camera department despite using the exact same sensor is because of the chipset they are using. FE uses an older chip set which have last years ISP( Image Signal Processor) while the s23 uses a newer one which has a better ISP. Thing of it like two different person with the same eyeball but different brain. So Samsung dint nerf it, its just the processor that came in it.
Best analogy ever. Thank you!
How can 2 people have the same eyeball THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE
@@joshua7015 but ones' eyeball works for others as well
Not really the truth. Despite of using the same Snapdragon 8 gen 1, also the same ISP, Chinese phones produce much worse image quality than Samsung. So, the most important for the image quality is software algorithm, not ISP
The nerfing can also be based on maybe gen 2 chip in s23 being better for processing the images at a more usable speed and fe skipping some heavier processing steps
Hey Matthew ... FE23 did end up going on sale for the Holloway's 😂... Great deal. Seems to be a great phone. Thanks for pointing out the camera differences between the reg 23 and FE.
If FE release 6 month ago it maybe the better choice over s23 but now when the end year or christmas sale is coming especially s24 premier in January the s23's price will drop significantly s23 become a better deal if the size isn't matter to you
Every singe pic and video comparison between the two even when both looked completely identical in quality just like you said, i noticed the sky is literally more deeper blue on the s23 in each. Watching on my a54
Just got my FE for $329 on Samsung's website with their promo and a trade-in. For that price it really was a no-brainer for me.
So how does it feel on hand i mean is it very thick ?
And hoW about the performance and heating issue ?
Just chill man he is happy with his S23fe why did you look like criticising, the s23fe doesn't have heating issues i think haters have heating issues@RyZeDI

Hi Matthew - great review! Thank you.
Can you tell me whether the S23 FE has portrait video mode or a cinematic mode equivalent and if so - what resolutions?
That silver ring around the camera that you pointed out, that has been happening with each 'F' edition Galaxy S phone. It's so weird --- it almost feels intentionally distracting, sort of like Samsung saying, if you don't want the camera punch hole to really stick out, just spend a bit more for the regular Galaxy. What other reason is there for that silver ring to be present on each F edition phone?
The A series has that ring too. My A53 had it but it was a bit more pronounced than the S23fe is
The review on the S23 FE I've been waiting for! 🔥
Hope you enjoyed it!
Mr. Moniz; based on your expertise, can you do a video about "what to expect about the next Ipad Pro M3"? I just watched your colab with Tausif and I concluded you´ve got the most autority in the space. My personal question is simple; considering what you´ve concluded about the M3 compared to past iterations; is it gonna be worth it to update from Ipad pro M1-M2 to M3? Thanks in advance. Love from Mexico.
My sister just bought the S23 (instead of the S23FE) with a killing discount which dropped S23 near the S23FE expected price (in my country). I surprised to see her phone in Geekbench 6 performed ofer 2k in single core and outperforming my S23Ultra a little bit (around 40 points). But I think the FE is a really good contender for its price expect when some shops thring in some creazy deals for S23.
ya it basically comes down to deals. If there's no deals the FE looks like the better buy but the S23 is always discounted which makes it the better choice
Agreed. Both the s23 and the FE were on a huge sale through my carrier on black Friday. FE for $120 and s23 for $360. So I bought s23
@MatthewMoniz yeah the carrier deals just don't work for me though cause I only buy unlocked phones and don't deal with carrier contracts. I just picked up the unlocked s23 fe for 499 compared to the unlocked regular s23 for 699. The 200 in savings was definitely worth it to me and my wallet is happy lol
Mathew you read my mind. Haven't finish the video yet but thanks for making this one . I did a s23 fe hands on thruth is its very bulky and the bezels takes you back few years. I think even s21fe had less bezels. Dont know if this cost savings was really required. Not many youtubers highlight this properly.
Thanks for watching!
I knew you were portuguese, besides the "moniz" giving it away your son in a renaldo jersey just solidified it! My family is from the azores an island in portugal 😃 🇵🇹
I don’t understand the concept of the FE,because Samsung fans like more classic Samsung features I would think. So the fact that it doesn’t have a headphone jack,SD card support, notification LED,IR blaster etc. Features only a true Samsung fan would miss, that aren’t here. A fan edition to me might even offer a more classic design. So wtf is this line? We lost all the classic features so someone who’s literally a fan of Samsung and not just getting a new phone is gonna get one of the top tier S series devices. Who is this one for.
Seems like some of classic features are on the A54 but not this one unfortunately
I would pick the S23 just because its smaller. Anything bigger than 6.2" is a deal breaker for me.
@@droiddevx03nobody asked for your opinion either lil boi
I'd like a Samsung phone with the same screen dimensions of the Galaxy Mega 6.3 from 2013
Personally, I prefer the compact phone size such as s22 or s23 regular, but Now I get stuck in choosing which one I buy, becoz I love s22 5g Snapdragon appearance , but I don't know in use of daily such as social media or web browsing or at most image editing, s22 5g gets warm or suffers from sever draining battery or what! That's make me become suspicious of buying or not😢
When you say the back facing cameras are the same but the photos look different. Have you thought about it could just be the displace that is making the images look different. A lot of people seem to overlook that there are a lot of different monitors and each have their differences and these two phones do not have the same screen.
I'm happy with the s23 fe. Got it factory US unlocked too off of amazon for black friday deals. I just came from the Google Pixel 7 Pro. It didn't do things that Samsung did. And yes, I have the Snapdragon edition. Lucky for me I heard the exynos one is worse in performance. I did a geekbench and the snapdragon edition surpasses the pixel 7! And that makes me happy. I got high scores on it with the Geekbench 6 app. Best to just get a phone with a snapdragon processor.
I too am really happy with the S23FE and got an unlocked 256GB version for $509 back in November with the Snapdragon 8 Gen1. So far it's been really snappy have had NO hickups or lag and battery life is very good. Coming from a S20FE I do miss the SD card expansion which is why I bought the 256Gb model.
The thickness of the bezel doesnt bother me, what bothers me is the asymetry of it. How hard is it to make that chin the same thickness with the rest of the edges?
Hp envy 2023 or dell xps 15 2023??❤ I want to start using after effects and blender to do 3D edits and more
My go to tech guy. Been waiting for this one! :) thank you as always!
Great rewiew . Thanks . I have a question:
The regular S23 is a great phone, but I find that the charging time with a 25-watt charger takes longer compared to other phones that also charge with the same 25-watt charger. Charging from 30% to 100% takes about a full hour. Is this normal, or is there a problem?
I would assume the difference in image quality comes down to the different ISPs. The FE's Spadragon 8 gen1 vs 8 gen2
SoC* isp is internet service provider 😅

Don't understand so many sacrifices for 200bucks and seriously no flagship phone with a SD card to me the a54 would be a better
Lol its not 200$, the S23 already starts at 600$ in eBay unlocked, so they pretty much cost the same...
Again. No one even want to cover s23fe, except the one with s23fe affiliated link in rhe description.
Sorry but really no point getting s23fe over heavily discounted s23

Regular S23 is on Amazon renewed for $460... renewed has awesome 90 day return window and in my experience with several different phones have been pretty darn flawless
That is my doubt, if the renewed s23, or the new s23fe...
I paid $421 for the 256gb version of the s23fe a few weeks ago. There was a sale going on the Samsung exclusive colors plus I got the educational discount and $95 trade in to get to that price. Seem like a good phone so far im very happy. I like the Indigo color i picked.
I just got my S23 FE for free when I switched to MetroPCS. I still can't believe it was free. Granted it was a Black Friday special, but normally the phone is just $50 if you port a number in. Coming off an A53 with an Exenos processor, the S23FE is like night and day and reminds of my Galaxy S9.
How do you like it after 3 months? Any lags or freezes?
I came from a A53 too The FE is so much faster
Never@@eastern2687
I am pretty sure that the photo differences are cause by the SD Gen 1, the SD Gen 2 is more capable in image processing so I'd say that's understandable and they're not actually nerfing the S23 FE's cameras
Actually thats a fantastic point and you're probably right.
I got this phone after using the A54 for the past 6 months and returned after 7 days once I realized I just bought the same phone for more money. The battery life on the FE was horrible, the phone is thick and heavy and just didn't feel like it was worth the cash. I didn't see a huge difference in performance between the two of course the FE was faster in some tasks but over all the extra 10 seconds it took open an app here and there throughout the day on the a54 isn't exactly life changing or worth the $629 dollars to me. The FE feels like a 4 year old phone in just about every way. I would say the old FE was and still is a better buy or if you want to pay $629 for a phone, black Friday is right around the corner and I've seen the s23 for 729 this past week. I would recommend going that way or getting the a54 for $280-320 if you don't need all the extra stuff that you're not really going to use or care about.
Exactly!! A54 better option for a buck😊
!! UPDATE!! So I seen the FE on sale for $400 at bestbuy..and I decided to give it another go. It's been 4 days with the phone now and I totally committed to using it that means I put my sim in it and didn't take it out for the days that I been using it.. here's my takeaway.. I have thoroughly enjoyed the wireless charging the screen and oddly enough the battery life has been really good not quite as good as my a54 but very very close The things that I didn't like are the bezels around the screen but that quickly faded in the background the heaviness of the phone in the thickness of it I have since put a thin Spigen case on the phone and that's helped out dramatically. Whenever I'm using a new phone I think to myself will I keep this phone for 2 years or more for the money that I paid for it I think this phone would be great for two years plus.
How about s22+? Im stuck between s22+ and s23fe. Cause i like bigger battery than s23
@@libralife420 I hope you didn't purchase a phone, but the battery life does not only depend on capacity. if you compare the s23 and s23fe, obviously s23fe has a bigger battery capacity. but with the gen 2 chipset and more advanced features in s23, helps to manage a longer battery life than s23fe. there are lot of videos about this. But hey, you have to consider your budget and many other personal preferences when it comes to a final decision. hope this help for future.
There is very little difference in features between upper-mid-tier and lower-flagships in 2023 due to the very mature smartphone market needing to be more innovative. The S23 and S23FE basically do the same stuff, but the S23 has a slightly better version of that stuff. Both would do the job for a Samsung buyer, IMHO.
I would hunt down deals, as the S23 can be had new on eBay for a similar price to the S23FE when that is finally released in the UK, assuming it is priced at around £639. I have the S23, so I am biased and would definitely recommend that over the S23FE due to my inequitable experience with two of the last three Exynos chips.
I can't wait for S24. I'm curious if they'll fix the blur issue and also how good the digital 10x zoom will be.
whats the blur issue?
@@jnid1758 taking a photo of moving objects you get a blue of it. Even camera assistant didn't help it. In pro mode also you don't have a sharp pictures. Around 75% of them are blurred.

Exactly. Many people misunderstood this. Bigger battery than the regular S model too.
Yep. 95% of people will have zero issue with a 8 gen 1 processor. I still use my s20 fe with no issues. Might get the s23 fe tomorrow.
Why not getting s22+?
@@MagdaeN that's probably better. I think the s23 fe has an extra cooling system of some sort. So might help with battery heating.
I paid an extra $190 to get the base s23. Don't regret it at all.
@@Greenfrom3 s23 seems to be actual complete phone. After s22 and s22+, I aprreciate size of small one combine with battery life from bigger one.

S23 FE will arrive in Europe with Exynos and most people will skip it because of that. Also, they are lot of discount period here since September on Amazon FR DE UK, and on Tech Stores people use to buy smartphones.
Most people don't even know what Exynos is.
Actually I am using with Exynos for 2 months now as it was released way back in India. This exynos is different than when it first came out as they introduced a full width vapour chamber with cooling pads which make the exynos 2200 effic9ent in every way. Even gaming for 1 hour stretch does not make the phone hot only normal warm. Plus battery life is good now with this chipset, so you can check the full review in my channel too about it. Trust me this time around exynos is different with the tweaking they did.
@@egadgets4u i understand your point and i heard about new cooling for this S23 FE but as a former Samsung consumer, i think we, i think i deserve the best Samsung device possible and Exynos is not the answer, 8+ Gen 1 would have been better. I’ve seen different reviews from SamMobile or Beebom too. It seems like a good midrange smartphone but my experience with S22 Exynos is a bad memory. It made me buy an iPhone for the first time. I will wait for videos of european tech reviewers too if S23 FE comes in Europe. I also have to play myself with it, in store.
📌 What i know is that many people living in Europe did like me in February 2022, release date for S22. Sales were bad for S22 and Samsung came back to Snapdragon. S23 sales in 2023 are good, 8 Gen 2 has been optimized and users are happy.
📌 If Samsung are confident about Exynos and their cooling, they should put their new Exynos, on every new S24 smartphones coming on January-February 2024, all around the world, but it seems they will split between S24 Ultra on one side, S24/S24+ on the other side. Future will tell.
@@bradavon Reviews from tech youtubers were bad for S22. Reviews coming from S22 buyers in France, where i live, were bad too. Sales were not so good in others europeans countries. I think this phone is meant to be as galaxy A74 since it only uses exynos (for other markets than North America). Maybe someone in the marketing room changes the ideas at the very last minute!
This
Can i go for exynos version or skip it becoz snapdragon is not available in my country.
I have the s23, my wife has the s23 FE (Snapdragon version), as I prefer smaller phones, my wife likes the larger screen. When I use her phone, I've got to say that I'm hard pressed to notice any difference in day-to-day use. When I tried an A54, my s23 was noticeably faster/smoother. I think that it comes down to form factor and what kind of deal you can get on each. For many folks it's more a comparison between the s23 + and the s23 FE as they are similar sized phones (though the s23 + sports a larger screen). That represents a considerably larger price differential.
Does s23 fe have any heating issue or bad battery life?
Do you realize that at times you called both phones "s23" so that it is unclear which phone you were speaking about, the (regular) s23 or teh s23 FE? For example: see fingerprint scanner comment at 3m46s, or the display comment beginning at 5m. I had close caption on to make sure of what I thought I heard you say. Sorry to say this review was of little help.
I have the S20 FE and love it, and while this phone would be an upgrade, this isn't the real S23 FE, this is the delayed S22 FE repackaged as the S23 FE. I might skip this and wait for deals and discounts on the standard S23 when the S24 launches.
Please make a video on asus vivobook 16x rtx 4060 and i7 12th generation bcz it is the most recommended laptop for professional use and gaming also . Please try to review this laptop 💓💗❤️💕
They have different ultrawide cameras, the FE has a smaller sensor. In fact, across the 4 cameras, only the main cameras are the same.
5:39 in my S23 I am getting the refresh rate as low as 24 FPS when the screen is static. So it's actually 24HZ to 120Hz.
The S23 is an almost perfect phone.
It is no surprise in camera especially when you face it against S23.
Would be more interesting when you compare it to S22
I'm more interested between a S23fe vs A54 comparison
My bf has the s10e and I want to get him a new phone for Christmas should I go with the fe or 23 no matter what I think it’s an upgrade
Wow, look at the difference in contrast between the phones. This can really be seen at 5:33 of the video where the color on the FE model that is supposed to be black (as it is on the S23), is actually gray, almost like an LCD would be. That is so odd for an OLED. And the reflections, if you pause the video, are significantly worse on the S23 FE. That (lack of a quality antireflective coating) might be the reason the colors look substantially more washed out on the FE display. I'm not complaining; i know it's cheaper....it's just that these are the type of differences that don't appear on a spec sheet. And that is why we all watch M-to-the-Oniz videos :)
You can change contrast , saturation and white balance . As long as detail the same you change everything else to suit your preference
I love both phones, and I own the standard S23, though I admit, I do get slightly offended when my S23 gets mistaken for its FE counterpart. 😅😅😅
haha
The screen is larger and more attractive for those who like big screens. If the frames weren't thick, I would buy the FE model without hesitation.
I don't know fo I should get the s23 or wait for the s24? i dont want to skip the blackfriday deal s23 ultra is for 899 now!
Why does the S21 FE has smaller bazels?? Overall I think it looks better than this one
Big PSA for everyone here, the S23 FE has NO physical proximity sensor, it uses virtual proximity sensing. It was the same for the S20FE and currently the A54. If you had/have no issues with those phones turning on in your pocket then you'll be fine, but for people like me whose body just makes phones register taps it is absolute hell. The phone is always on, dialing emergency services, scanning fingerprints on my thigh etc.
You will not get this issue with the flagship phones as they all have physical proximity sensors.
Virtually every single other phone in existence has physical proximity sensors, and Samsung even had physical ones in the A70 from 2019. If they can't even put one in their FE models in 2023, idk what they're doing.
Oh crap. This is actually a big deal as I've probably made 50 emergency calls with my s20 fe. I'm actually surprised they don't legally have to fix it.
weird considering the a52s had a physical proximity sensor, this is coming from someone who actually owns one.
@@_amrbadr_ It doesn't. It uses virtual proximity sensing like all the others. I had an a52s 5g for about a year, had to sell it off for specifically that issue
@@justinli826 maybe the software tricked me then, though tbf the proximity sensing really fucks with my music player, it always skips to a different song or completely pauses the fucking thing, this shit is why i disabled lift to wake and double to tap to turn on screen, i fucking hate how they implemented this dogshit, funny how their older phones had physical sensors while their newer phones (might i add significantly more expensive) have them only using sotware and selfie camera.
@@_amrbadr_ Yeah that sounds like the virtual sensing issue. It's not the sensor that's messing with the music, it's that the screen misregisters taps against your thigh that turns on the screen, and then hits your lock screen music controls etc because there's no damn proximity sensor to tell it that it's in a pocket. Hence turning off tap to wake "solves" it, since the screen completely ignores all taps using software instead of differentiating between actual taps and pocket taps.
they cost the same RN in Romania... so... witch one to chose?
Can you share the wallpaper on your S23? 👍

I always see the s23 vs s23fe. True in picture taking or music playing you can make a comparison. However the s23 is about Samsung's smallest display. It's like comparing an apartment size fridge to a full size. S23 is very uncomfortable for viewing I find. Compare the S23fe vs S23+ is more accurate. 6.4 to 6.6 inch display makes up 90% of Samsung's line up. Pretty much everything but the S23 and S23 Ultra. Excluding flips and folds.
I never consider the smaller 6.1" screens. It's why the FE is always interesting to me. There's many that won't go with the S23 just because of the display size.
Finally someone gets it!!! Salute 😅

Canadian carriers are offering the F23 FE for $5/month for 24 months with $0 down. This makes it a far better deal than the S23, going for around $20 - $25 a month and $250 down. My local phone store (a Koodo retailer) has had to place two separate emergency orders to fill the demand (people really like the green and purple models). My S10's USB port was broken and estimates for repair were higher than the cost of an S23 FE so I took the plunge.
I just took he koodo deal, was 115$ for the phone. Got mint green.
just for information, s23 regular refresh rate can be 24-120hz... i've checked with "show refresh rate" in developer option
Also the S23 FE can regulate the refresh rate bewteen 48-120hz. This guy didn't checked correctly
Appreciate this review, about to buy the FE
Only if phone came with snapdragon
Run from exynos
Got the 23fe for 399 USD in the black Friday sale
The MAJOR difference is the processor. With the S23, you are paying more for Snapdragon Gen 2. The Gen 2 here is significantly better in performance, heat management, and battery efficiency although the mah is higher on the FE. There are other Android phones that gives you better specs at the same price points
Unfortunately, here in Europe the S23FE uses the Exynoss 2200... it's automaticaly a bad choice, less performance, less efficiency and lower quality on camera processing. For me, the S23FE has more in common with the A54 than S23.
The S23FE (Exynoss only) is a midrange killer disguised as a flagship. Samsung should name it A74 or A54s.
Yep. Exynos and optical fingerprint scanner, it should be in A series, not S series.
Isn't the s23fe just an A54 with wireless charging and a faster chip?
Or does it also have usb c 3.0 or higher?
Damn the fe also gets that hideous chrome ring on the front camera.. Crazy, and they still want 699€ for that here
During this period it would be very immature to buy a new Samsung product especially now since the SD8 gen3 looks very promising. I'm quite certain the s23 will be around 600 around January so just wait it out.
Can someone help me, im stuck between S22+ and S23fe, which is more worth to buy? those are my options since i want more battery life, i've been using S10 for 2yrs but i want more battery life just for social media and watching videos.
sure the s22 hoas more feature then
This is just an A54s... Prices for this phone on contract are the same as the regular S23 (at the moment). I really don't see the value proposition of this phone right now
Please fix your video with some text edits. You keep referring to both phones as the "S23", and not clearly distinguishing which one you mean.
Those bezels are the biggest turnoff for most buyers, even if the difference is $200
Ya I mean they're pretty thick but they have to differentiate it from their more premium offerings.
@@MatthewMonizwell there are differemt ways, samsung target price/performance with fe series and it does not work with s23fe.
S23fe should have the same design as s23 plus/s21fe with plastic chasis and 8 gen 2 instead of 8 gen 1/exynos without wireless charging and ip68 certificate, they could remove 1 camera as well
Here, that phone would outsell everything and a true FE that we deserve.
Check best buy, the s23 fe is $400, the 23 is $700
Can't beat the fe at that price
But the bezels 😂😂😂😭😭😭😭
Gotta say, I'm really happy with my S23.
Its a solid phone!
I have had most phones and I can really say no phone compares to S23. It's the simply the best.
Same sensorr different processor isn't difficult to understand! Snap 8 gen 2 makes better picture and is made by TSMC while 8 gen 1 by Samsung that sucks as the exynos do built in their factories!
Avoid the FE. I've seen the S23 and S22 plus for as good as the best price I've seen for this FE. If I was to go cheap I'd get the A54. The FE is too expensive to be a discount phone, and too crap to be a flagship.
S23 goes upto 24 HZ i checked by developer mode on for Screen refresh rate on My S23
I got this FE for $650 CAN (about $480 US) and am super, super happy with it.
Hey, certified Samsung tech here just to inform you about small things, excuse for my poor english, it isn't my primary language!
Here's the thing; the fingerprint scanners are very different from one another, first of as you said, the S23FE has the Optical Fingerprint reader, which is connected onto the charging port with a little circle embedded into the screen to let the reader do its job, on the other hand on the S23, it is a ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which is embedded directly into the screen! So the latency is really efficient on these models, every "FE" phones aswell as the A series have the Optical one, it is cheaper and is replaceable! The Ultrasonic cannot, you would need a screen replacement.
Thanks for reading if you did!
If you can get the s23 get the s23, it has the amazing snapdragon 8 gen 2 chip wich improves your overall expierence 🎉 dont forget the pd bypass wich directly gives your phones soc power to play games, wich saves your battery and gives you amazing performances!!!!!
In Canada are they giving snapdragon or exynos??
snapdragon
Thanks for the honest review Matt.
Thank you for watching and your time Bryan! Hope you're having a good weekend.
@@MatthewMoniz You too!
I dunno, I kinda prefer the shots and video on the FE...?
