  • The sixth Elbow Run - a week of camping and sailing on 145 mile long Lake Diefenbaker. This year's event was filled with firsts - the first de-masting, the first monohull to join the event, the first spinnaker to be flown in the event, the first ice maker to be used.

Man.. what an awesome fun trip. I love to hike , camp and sail and this is right up my alley. I’m restoring an 1985 18foot Hobie cat. I live in Massachusetts and I would love to do the road trip to join this run . Looks awesome.. thanx for sharing.

Good morning, Angel, and thanks for watching. Yes, the Elbow Run is the event of the summer for me and the other sailors who do it.We would love to have you join us with your Hobie 18 - with that boat you will be the one to set the pace with the rest of us following. :-) It is a long road trip from the New England to the Canadian prairies but sailing your Hobie on that 145 mile long lake would make it all worthwhile. When you finish the restoration, be sure to get in touch. The eighth Run leaves from Tuft's Bay July 18 and if you can't make it this year, we will do it again in 2021. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the videos on previous Elbow Runs. Here is the link for last year: ruclips.net/video/H63civnrG3A/видео.html

Enjoyed the video. Sailing entails the unexpected. That's part of the allure. One other thing - each boat should carry a handheld VHF marine radio. Cobra sells these for $50 each. Good radios and on flat water/land like you have there you can get 5+ miles of range. Sure would have come in handy when those boats were trying to find each other.

Hi, Tom, your suggestion is a good one. We have used Cobras in earlier years and when everyone uses them properly they are great. Not so good if you are relying on them and someone (me) doesn't know how to find a good channel. :) As for the unexpected - indeed that is the allure. It forces us out of our comfort zone and that has a value all of its own.

The Elbow Run is always a blast!! More than one of us get through our winters by watching the videos of the past Elbow Runs and dreaming of the next one. And I expect we will have Bo's Tiki 21 as well as my Mana taking part in the Elbow Run 2019. If you get a boat in time, you are welcome to join us. Where are you located, Rory? If you are on Facebook, the group Wharram Catamarans often has posts of Wharram boats for sale. And Scott Brown's site often has Wharram's for sale www.multihulls.uk.com/

That looks like a fun time for sure. Will you truck the Mana down to Florida one day?

I'd love to do some sailing down there, preferably in time for the Hui. The 4500 kilometres between here and there likely means it will never happen, but its nice to dream....

    Good video...
    Thank you for sharing
    One question if I can:
    -The Dynnema cable broke?
    -I didn't realize why?
Congratulations on the fantastic MANA 24, it seems to be an excellent wharram.

Thank you, Edgar, for your kind comments. The Dyneema failed at a splice joint which I had not executed properly. I have redone the splicing with new line and this time separated the shrouds, fore and aft, I am confident that this new arrangement will be better. It is a caution to others to be careful in the way they go about their splicing in order to prevent failure.

      @@RodMcLaren Thanks for the clarification.
I bought Dyneema for my Hitia 14
And I was worried when I saw that this had happened
      Thanks
      And good winds
