    Outstanding video, looks to be a fun outing. Enjoyed watching you sail the Prairie Mermaid backwards. Beautiful area, I see why you enjoy sailing here. Was great to see the number of people aboard under the tent.We enjoy any additional photos or videos of projects like the tent or additional sails. Thank you for taking the time to document it. Keep posting!

      Thank you for your kind comments. I post periodically to my blog www.villagerainbows.com and you can find some posts there about the tent and the two sails I have sewn for the Mana. Your request has prompted me to do an update on the improvements made to the deck tent, which frankly is still a work in progress. I'll see if I can find some photos and do a brief update.

      Thanks, Bo. I look forward to the time you are able to return and finish off what you and I started in 2018, and this time keep all masts upright! :-)

    Excellent video of a great trip in a beautiful area. What more inspiration can you ask for to start off a grim day of boat maintenance in Scotland! :-)

      Good morning, Charlie, and thank you for your comment. I'm free today and happy to lend a hand - there is the wee matter of getting from here to there though... :-)

    This looks like an amazing lake. I didn't even know there was much of a sailing culture in Saskatchewan. The sand dunes are amazing. How are the bugs?

    • @RodMcLaren

      The "lake" is really a river valley, carved out over time by erosion across the plain. I've been sailing on the lake since 2012 and every year I see new features I had not seen before. The deep coulees and ravines offer excellent overnight shelter for camping onshore. There is a very active sailing community based out of the Lakeside Marina at Elbow with a smaller one at Rusty's Marina at Palliser Regional Park (google images for Elbow Marina). The lake has often been described as the hidden sailing gem on the prairies. As for bugs, it depends on the year but never excessive. Last year we had no mosquitoes and a few deer flies and horses flies.

    Glad to see you guys keeping this going. What is lake's surface temp in the summer?

      Hi, Tom, thanks for continuing to follow the Elbow Run. If it were't so far for you to come, I would be hounding you to join us. We'd love to have you on board. Not sure what the temperature was this summer - it was definitely the warmest I have seen it for a few years. Just now its a bit chilly - ice on the lake! :-)

    Well done Rod! I will be working on how to camp out of Grace this year, and still hope to make 2022! How do you keep your camera batteries charged for a week?

    • @RodMcLaren
      @RodMcLaren  2 года назад +1

      Thanks, Rudy. We hope you can make it - we would love to have you and Grace join the flotilla. Batteries? I bought extra (6) for my camera (a Panasonic TS5) and don't have a problem. Some of the guys are using their phones for a camera and have solar panels to keep them charged.

    Was there a 2022 event?

    • @RodMcLaren
      @RodMcLaren  2 года назад +1

      Hi, Tom. Yes there was - in July. A small fleet but it was a fast week of sailing, back a full day earlier than expected. The video will go up when I have time. I’m busy building another cat so be patient. It should be worth the wait - a tornado watch one night and major storms two other nights.

    Thanks for posting this as it gives me a good idea of the similarities between sailing Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota and your lake. Perhaps this will be the year Magic and i make the trip north to participate in the Elbow Run.

      That would be awesome, Rick. By then the border crossings should be normalized again. ts about a 4 hour drive (240 miles) from North Portal, if thats your closest crossing, to Elbow. We'd love to have you and "Magic" join us.
