Yeah....he was absolutely spot on.....True friend of Donovan. (Hey...let's not forget that brilliant Orchestra.... they made this to perfection..... They were magnificent.
I’m pretty sure at the original recording of this song Jimmy was the Guitarist?? Before Yardbirds when he was a studio musician! This is an incredible performance!! Donovan really gots it, He always delivered a true Star
I’m just mad about Saffron and Donovan…i saw you at a Concert in Chichester Festival Theatre when I was 18 I fell in love with Donovan and his Melodic Music since I was 3 lol I even called our daughter Saffron she’s 21 and just Graduated with flying colours. My Husband her Dad then took me to see Don at the Guildhall in Portsmouth for my 50th birthday…Thankyou Don for being the sound track to my life …amongs a few others how lucky were we. Saffron has a big brother Alfie who lives Music and Painting and 2 elder sisters. They call me Mellow Yellow …that’s right. And the Sun is Shining ☀️ this beautiful August Morn. 💙🦢💙
The first LP that I ever bought with my own money was Donovan's Greatest Hits. I was maybe eight years old at the time. More than half a century later, I still have that LP, and I still love Donovan's music.
My first Donovan album was Hurdy Gurdy Man. I was just 12-13, it was my first record purchase, and I earned the money for it by looking after my neighbour’s dog while she was away. A lot of firsts, but I’ve been a Donovan fan forever! Even got to see him live in Toronto in the mid 80’s. In a big bar. I took photos and have a wonderful photo of Donovan singing Atlantis. (I love that song!) It’s hanging in my living room. 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
Don't forget about Shawn Phillips. He appears at 1:24 on his double guitar. On Mellow Yellow he's playing sitar. He co-wrote Sunshine Superman but never got an ounce of credit for it!
During "Sunshine Superman," there's a shot of a pony-tailed guitarist playing a multi-neck guitar -- that's Shawn Phillips, multi-instrumentalist who has had dozens of solo albums released through the decades. I was surprised to see him backing Donovan -- I didn't even know they knew each other. Shawn's "Moonshine/Armed" is a great track from his early days.
ruclips.net/video/PUjByfJsABc/видео.html Donovan used to play a lot with Shawn Phillips when they were both starting out. Check out the link I sent ya! You might dig it!
There is a tape floating around of Donovan at some New Jersey high school in the mid60s. Shawn Philiips is on that tape so they obviously have known each other for some time.
Donovam is awesome! I know the first LP Jimmy owned was the Black Beauty that was stolen on the 2nd LZ tour shortly after he aquired the Sunburst from Joe Walsh. Amazingly he got it back in the 2000's. I wonder if that's the famed Black Beauty...
Mac Anoodough I think it’s one of the repro that gibson did. The one he used then seen in the royal Albert hall has an uncovered zebra pickup in the neck, uncovered all black in bridge, and a normal covered in the middle these are all covered and the guitar looks relatively new so I’d guess it’s not the original
Mac Anoodough Whoever owned the black LP basically destroyed it www.lespaulforum.com/forum/showthread.php?199416-Jimmy-Page-gets-his-1960-Gibson-Les-Paul-Custom-back/page6
Is the blonde woman singing, Beth Dutton, from Yellowstone?? It wouldn't surprise me, just finished S4 E10 last night/this morning, 7/6/22, Wednesday. I stayed up to finish all the episodes and took notes.
That's the first time I've seen this footage..What an absolute TREAT!! I love the Hurdy Gurdy Man,he definitely came singing songs of Love..Great to see Jimmy Page..

I want to know how Donavon hooked up with Jimmy Page , John Paul Jones and John Bonham before Led Zeppelin happened, and what was he doing in India with the Beatles? Suddenly Donavan's music has taken on a new dimension learning this. Plus Epistle to Dippy, could someone please explain what this letter Means? Did Dippy turn Hippy?
I would also direct you to D.A.Pennbaker’s “Don’t Look Back” documentary. Donavon features in that with Bob Dylan. Like him or not he was a permanent feature of the 1960s pop culture.
Jimmy Page! RAD! I didn't know he played on this one.. Should have known better, as he was the studio session ace back in those days... You'll notice that his stab/swells throughout the verses are the perfect volume against the voice, the sign of a consummate player/accompanist/live performer.
That is excellent “I’m not the star here” work by Page
Kudos to Jimmy for just being in the band but adding just the right amount of less is more
Yeah....he was absolutely spot on.....True friend of Donovan.

This should have a million likes.
Brilliant .... Donovan. Stay strong...... always here.

The fact that there is a classic orchestra with him is just great!!!

Shawn Phillips' song, "L'Ballade" is the most perfect love song of all time. Heavenly.
Who's the guitarist to the right of the bass player???? He only plays at the end.
Didnt think they had the multi neck back then ! LOL :)

Cool video of Jimmy, nice and clean

At 2.38 the guitarist on the right... The smile that says I was on the same stage as JP
sweeeeet
Was it Sir Paul McCartney saying "Quite Rightly" on "Mellow Yellow" on the original recording?
Page's guitar is out there man, I mean the actual Gibson. Holy Crap.
The lyrics have some perceptive comments. imho
Also really dig the haunting Sunny South Kensington video with the period film clips.
☮️💜
a lot of people dont know he played on the original version in the 60 s.
