  • We like the 2 BK for efficiency and economy of effort over distance swims.
    Pool or open water.
The legs need to have a degree of 'tone' through them, engaged.
Toes pointed and a feeling of 'length' - which also helps maintain balance, stability and streamlining.
Toes also turned in 'pigeon toed' is also a great coaching cue
The kick is like a flick, or whip action; with the movement generated from the hip/glute area.
As we begin to press and power down with the leg, the energy travels down the leg.... like a wave, and is released and a subtle toe flick.
Left foot kick = left hip up... and left catch/ right going into streamline
Right foot kick = right hip up... and right catch/ left going into streamline

Thank you for the great tips! This is the only video that I've seen and that points out having the legs aligned after one kick and avoiding scissor kick.

Yes, not a fan of the scissor split. Too much tension in the legs and lacks power in my trials.

Good to hear from you Mark! I can do a remote Video Analysis if that helps. Was just in the Cook Islands with a load of Kiwi swimmers, Hope to get to NZ with TI in the not too distant future!
