I'm a grandma now. Back in the day, I had 2 that were 1 year and 11 days apart. But we had rules. Follow the rules, we're fine. One of them at the store was, yes, you can ask for something ONCE. Do not ask for it again in the trip. Frequently it was, i'll see if we can get it at the end. One day, it was badgering me for something. Warned, ask again, and we will leave. Asked again. I went directly to the store manager to turn over the cart and told her we had to leave. We would be back tomorrow to try this again. Gwen wish the kids good luck, see you tomorrow. We went home and did it better the next day. 6 years later when their baby sister tried something similar, They shut it down. Mom's serious about leaving. I wasn't mad. They realized there are consequences to their behavior. There was no yelling at them, no hitting or spanking. These are the expectations, defined, and this will be the response for good choices and bad choices. They grew up into responsible parent and people I genuinely like to hang out with.

I do this all the time with the toddler nanny. I will outweigh a toddler to get him to do what he needs to do. When I was teaching him how to go potty, I was willing to wait more than an hour for him to be willing to put his pants on. I will always be kind, gentle, and respectful. I will always do what I need to do.

Consequences not being punishment is such a hard line to walk and I'm grateful for your examples in this. Thanks so much for uploading.
