  • I've had this Jackson Dinky Dk2s for years but I've never used it live. I always felt the weakest point was the licence Floyd Rose. In this video I change that.

@@bthonk dude. you’ll probably think i’m nuts but: only wash your hair like 2-3 times a week. Use a decent shampoo and separate conditioner (like pantene or better). I usually do a couple passes of conditioner. What’s most important is the in between days is brushing it like marsha freakin brady. seriously. when i get lazy and don’t brush it my wife tells me i look like a homeless dude. but when i brush regularly it falls straight and neat like the cover of a 70s rock album. sadly she won’t let me do lamb chops so i just have a goatee, but it works. And then don’t think about it after. it’s hair and we’re guys, not women who make us late to everything doing hair and makeup. Oh ya, and singers. They take as long as most women, but they’re singers, ya know? end of rant.

Got fed-up with the Floyd issues on this guitar. So, I got it cheap but the downside is I'm forever futzing with it to keep it in tune. I see this upgrade in the near future for this guitar because otherwise I love the guitar.

One thing I did notice was that there was a small gap between the end of the fretboard and the front-edge of the locking nut, there should be no gap in between the end of the fretboard and the front-edge of the locking nut because the locking nut's front-edge defines the zero-point of the guitar's scale-length, if this zero-point is not exactly right on the end of the fretboard near the first fret, this will put the guitar's 12th-fret intonation out of whack, and you'll find that the tuning will go progressively out as you go towards the nut, so, when you install the locking-nut the front edge of it needs to be hard up against the end of the fretboard with no gap visible.

I removed my trem-stop and D-tuna off my Kramer Dave Sabo signature model, I also installed Fu-tone Titanium saddle blocks and saddle screws with the brass big block, what a difference. I can swing the trem down or up and stays in tune absolutely. I did the exact same set up on my original Kramer Nightswan Aztec from 1989 and same thing. I think more then anything it improves reliability so much. I'm also doing my 96 Hamer Californian. It's tried and true so why not lol.

Guitars go out of tune if something changes; properly functioning & setup hardware doesn't change... so I've always been kind of baffled by these stories about certain models of non-OGFL that never stay in tune. Granted I've got my least favorites too... but none of them are the licensed Jackson versions, and the ones that I don't like are usually just uncomfortably positioned in my strumming zone.

I found out spring noise, for me, was spring direction. I had the same stupid noise coming from a real German Schaller Floyd. I got rid of it by complete accident, just from changing the direction of the springs. At first the v of springs pointed to the but of the guitar, so i changed it so the v pointed towards the neck and it was gone and felt like butter. Buttery smooth, no clicking. I will say I never cared for trem stoppers. I like to pull up, and developed a picking to work around the detuning of the trem itself.

maybe try a piece of felt for the tremstopper but i dont know how it would affect sustain if it may dampen it a little but that is the only down fall to the trem stoppers thats why i just let them float, if u get the guitar set up right they will stay in tune just fine floating actually as good if not better cause it has the exact amount of spring tension for the strings so if everything is right it has to go back to that perfect point. i like your up pitch fluttering to that since u put the trem stop on now u cant do!

The last time I was on tour, I was given a guitar to use that had a Floyd Rose. It broke a string after the second gig. Whereas with my Carvin V220, I could replace the string in a matter of minutes, not so with ol' Floyd. I put the loaner guitar back in its case, where it remained for the next 2-1/2 months, whipped out the Carvin, and all was well.
I have no patience for a tremolo system that requires (a) cutting off the ball ends to restring it, and (b) hoping I didn't leave my Allen wrench at home. I understand that the Speedloader provided some relief, but only if you bought the special bullet-end strings. Now it is difficult, if not impossible, to buy replacement strings. So back to whipping out the Dykes and Allen wrenches ... uh, I'm thinking "no".
The V220 was my workhorse for 29 years. My new guitar is a Kiesel (f/k/a Carvin) DC600 with the Hipshot whammy bar - it will arrive on or about December 16, 2020. Based on the performance of my V220, I look forward to putting it through its paces.

Floyds dont go outa tune because the bridge is collapsing per se, the plate hiding into the body is just the observable symptome. The issues Floyds face are the following (mix and match to your liking, its all of them at the same time to different degrees) :
    1) The nut. Same issue as with standart nuts except it happens less but if it does, worse. Over time the strings eat themselfs into the thingies which hold them in place, reducing the downward force. This gives the strings space to wiggle a bit and catch themselfs in a different position after a dive/bend. Same shit with the screws themselfs, I found myself having to replace those every 5-6 years or so. I own 4 gits with Floyds, each one came with rubbish screws on every part of the instrument. This brings us right to the worst offender -
    2) Everything about the saddle. Dont screw the intonation screws in like the god of thunder, those screws are shit and will not survive the third time you want to adjust them. Also, screw those things into the plate like youre securing a high frequented automobile bridge, because the actual saddles WILL start moving after some hours of heavy whammy usage. Contradicting statement ? Yes.
2.1) After a while, I estimate after about the 10th string swap, theres movement in the insert-cavity. Mostly applies to the two highest strings, for the same reasons as with the nut stuff. Either the saddle, the insert or both get worn down by the string and pressure and will give. The one on my 7sAgile is the worst offender, the saddle itself has gotten sharp edges inside the cavity which snap the E string. Its also the Floyd on which I had to replace 3 of those screws which hold the inserts in place, the saddle has eaten the threads on 'em.
Everything terrible about Floyds comes down to maximum shitty hardware quality. Shit screws, shit inserts, I even had a shit claw. The machining was always tolerable, always. Im about to do the same move as you and buy new Floyds in the hopes the come with better metals and machining. I will not buy a Floyd git ever again tho. They work fine for a few years and then start getting cranky and needy. I own a Kahler from 1988 and one from 2000, both work 100% satisfactory still. I have never had one of those Ibanez whammys having issues in my vicinity, either. Just checked, original Floyds range from 350 to 470€ in my country. You get an Ibanez for half that and an USA Kahler for the same amount. Fuck. That. Shit. Guitarshops need switch, either give me the option for a high quality Floyd or a completely different one but getting a licensed Floyd just means having to spent time, nerves and more money down the line. All of my hate.

Did anyone else notice the quite noticeable gap between the new nut and the fret board. I wonder if this effected the tuning/intonation at all...

The massive brass block adds more mids vs even a regular (brass) Floyd Rose block. The Zinc block is a tone suck.

Get string through screws, throw out the blocks & get a tone vise OR Bill Edwards keyless locking nut.

Nice looking. Can't reason getting since my J32 stays in tune though.
You didn't angle the spring stop brass claw. It helps to angle big time as big strings put more tension than thinner ones.

Mr KDH: First off thank you for all of your postings: I consider you and your channel "Virtual public servants" to the guitar community. I have the exact Jackson DK-2s that you have (even same color) but mine is older came with "Floyd licensed trem and "Duncan designed Pickups (the serial lookup says 1996 made in japan w/serial# 9691215. Trying to take your advice and looked for (but could not find) the 40th anniversary Floyd trem you suggested.Sold out? Anyway: Being that we have the same guitar, I would like to know some of the correct sizes of parts (like the nut size or any other specifics that would make it easier to buy the rest of the parts you bought (claw, springs, steel screws) Question: If you could not find a "40th anniversary Floyd Which Floyd trem system Would you get? their original 1984, or "original Hot rod"? ...Yes I too would want "nickel or chrome" as well. Any suggestions?.....Thanks in advance...Tim

the only thing with trem stoppers is how do you compensate for the flatness on the G after a bit of trem action? Every floyd style trem needs a little tug sharp to get back to its correct pitch, the elastic band syndrome.

Wich guitar do you recomend with this rules: 1-NO ibanez 2-around 500, 600bucks 3-NO basswood 4-HH config 5- 24 frets 6- Floyd ( or has the compatibility with OFR so i can upgrade). I have Dimarzio pickups to swap so that isnt an issue. I know with this price it will be 2 hand guitar. I need one that has good fretwork and doesnt get tunning issues

Best wishes my friend, you're gonna knock this shit out of the park.
