My Squier grew with my ability. When I wanted humbuckers on my strat I learned how to solder. When I wanted coil tapping, I learned wiring. When the sound wasn’t what I wanted, I learned how to wind my own pickups. When the pickups didn’t fit, I learned chiseling and dremel work to craft pickguards. And when I realized it weighed as much as a loaf of bread, I added a bunch of brass plates to it lol. It’s been 4 different colors, 5 different pickup combos, and 3 different bridge setups. It will never leave me until I’m dead.
Seeing Glen on your channel is always a delight. And it makes me happy to see that I'm not the only Telecaster/Les Paul grandpa (presumably) around my age. 😂
Thank you for presenting the title as a statement of fact, not a question! It bothers me how people are STILL surprised at how great cheaper, overseas guitars actually are
Glen's first electric guitar sounds like mine, way back in the mid 80s. I ordered it from a mail order catalog from either Sears or JCPenney (people in the states above the age of 40 will recognize those names and the catalogs). The brand was Harmony, it was a sunburst strat and came with a little practice amp, chord and some picks. Everything you needed to get started, all for $99.
The videos with Glen are great, because KDH is in content mode and Glen just doesn't care. "So we're doing a video on first guitars..." "Oh, it's not my first guitar"
Glen is good fun, you’ve got good chemistry as a duo. And who doesn’t love a good Squier? Plenty of guitarists start with one, then find out that going higher up in expense doesn’t always get them a whole lot more.
Indeed. I haven't yet found a cheap guitar that after a good set up isn't suitable to play. The cheapest normally need new tuners not much more. Pickups are to taste, so subjective. The myriad of fx n gains n amp channels etc can always overcome that too. I have a considerable collection through all price range up to 3k, My daily home guitar, a £60 Hohner 80`s Strat. Gorgeous little thing. A couple Hondo strats that easily compare with my Fender. The 'branded' guitars are of course cool as F, as instruments? I find the cheapos just as capable.
Personally I LOVE the purple pickguard. Cheaper guitars are great for personalizing like this because you're generally not going to hurt whatever resale value it has, so make it unique. Make it your own!
I really enjoy your videos separately, but you guys are an absolute team. Very entertaining bouncing off each other like this. If you guys need a 3rd amigo/stooge, 6stringtv is the man for that job haha.
In a moment of madness, I recently rebought a Squier tele from around this era (2001 in my case) in Sherwood Green out of nostalgia. It's got the same busy headstock decal set. They're a well made guitar.
Neck pickup on a Tele is typically body mounted - some aftermarket pickguards have holes for pickup mount. Nevr Dull is a great fret (metal) cleaner. Then there’s products to use on the fretboard to clean out the gunk, and prevent it from drying out. (lemon oil, etc) Squiers can be great guitar if someone takes the time to set it up properly - level off high fret spots, replace cheap hardware, etc - but many people don’t want to sink money in to a cheap guitar. I’ll buy a cheap used & abused guitar and spend 2-3 hours going through it and getting it back to 100%, and have been surprised just how well some guitars turn out.
We ❤ Kaiden and Glen. You guys are always so awesome the way you genuinely support each other. Glen is the eternal dreamer and Kaiden is the grounded in reality type. It’s always a true pleasure to hear your guitar and band stories and see you both interact - and discover guitar and music stuff together for the love of the craft. It’s really a lovely Squier with lots of history in Glen’s life. I love the look. Btw, is he gonna fix the frets? Might be a wee bit past the point of needing a re-crown and level. Btw, I knew Glen was gonna turn around to pretend to pee when the water started running. That was a classic Glen move (4 times!), and I’m here for it that childish behavior! 🤣🤣🤣
I've just bought one of these with a humbucker at the neck in candy apple red & a mirror scratchplate, it's a very fine guitar, it may just turn out to be a favourite! yours with its outer space black & mystical purple has an other worldly vibe which I dig a lot!
There is something about a nice Tele - and that is a nice Tele! You can play just about any style of music with a Tele and sound good. Don't make the mistake I did, and get rid of your nice Tele Glen, it looks like it's a keeper to me.
Nothing beats taking a leak on the wall LoL.. I love squier guitars, own 7 of em and with a little fretwork and handful of parts,I e. Pups pots bridge saddles they turn out to be absolute giant slayer's.. custom shop on the cheap!
Got to be honest that I 'm not completely sure about the control plate and knobs, but the rest of the guitar looks great, and sounds very good as well!
That Squire Tele really looks like it could use a fret-dress in the near future. With all the hose-pipe noises I have to wonder if your neighbour has become annoyed at hearing you talk away beside their shed about guitars every Sunday.
Yeah, we had something similar in germany back in the day... This big chunky katalog's had names like Quelle, Otto or Neckermann and they had everything you could ask for listed... Even guitar's... My first ever guitar was a "vision" branded superstrat from Quelle i think and i played it for many year's... I was 14, course i plasterd it with sticker's...😅Still own it but it's just a wallhanger now reminding me at the past...
Love the vids but my inner pedant has to point out the jack socket on a guitar is an output not an input as you both called it. It's an input at the other end of the cable
Then why do I "put in" my cable there? Edited to say if you really want to be a nazi about tiny stuff, the other end of the cable is exactly the same. It's an input on the amp. Thx for playing.
Yeah, it's a common guitarist thing; there are so many "incorrect but correct by association" terms. Input jack when it's actualy an output. Tremolo bridge when it's actually vibrato. Compound radius when it's actually a conical radius, and so on and so on.
@@FurioraI know for sure that tremolo came from Leo Fender himself calling it that in the patent for the strat vibrato, other guitar brands call them vibrato. Idk about the other stuff I didn't know it was called conical I've never heard that word before.
@@1yoshi426 Yeah, it came from Leo, but a lot of guitarists will still call an entire bridge that pivots a tremolo regardless of brand or exact design of bridge (strat style, floyd rose, khaler, even new age ones like the sophia) while using the term "vibrato" for systems with a seperate unit (although some brands of those still use the wrong term, see the "Les-Trem" system) I might have spelt that wrong, it just means "cone like" which is closer to what such a radius ends up looking like. I'm not even sure if a true compound radius could even exist. Maybe an oval is a compound radius?
I vote to keep Glen!
If we get enough votes we can keep him
Keep. Nice guitar
I agree, Glen got the Rizz.Get him some custom PUPS for that Tele,Dude.
@@timscarrow9151 i recomend sergio rosar noiseless
@@KDH I vote we keep him
that purple on black on the Tele really pops , and the fact Glenn was a Status Quo fan at age ten cements it, he's a renaissance man
just think how cool it would be if he dyed the dots purple too - that would be rad as well as unique.
well now I just want purple mirror dots on my fingerboard
I really dig the purple on black. Yeah, it requires more cleaning but, I think, it looks badass
glenn is just a genuine old soul and you already know we enjoy seeing him on here.
I feel like a roast my guitar segment would fit this channel well, with Glen
💖🕊️🤘 Second that
We’re gonna do it
Glen roasted half the guitars in the Northern Hemisphere while hunting a new guitar.
Funny as fuk.
@@KDH looking forward to it!!!

The hanging with Glen videos are my favorite..
Keep Glen. We like Glen.🎉
More Glen he brings a level of maturity to the channel.
Glen is always welcome. You guys just have that classic friendship. It's always good to see.
And Glen finally steps into the lime light ... 😅😅😅😅 . Awesome show. TY
never seen Glen before, the dude is a gem and your dynamic is fun to watch. Cool guitar too!
I love the LORE !!! The mirrored purple Tele looks so rad, no wonder it saved a few gigs. Telecasters just get the job done!
That Tele is a match for my Jazz bass. It's black and I swapped the pick guard out for a purple mirror picker just like yours. It's awesome!
love that purple mirror pick guard, always fun to watch you two, Glen is always a fun addition to your fun videos!

I got a harmony shortscale bass at a flea market for $80, with better pickups and electronics it turned out to be pretty fun to play
We need more Glen!
The videos with Glen are great, because KDH is in content mode and Glen just doesn't care.
"So we're doing a video on first guitars..."

I think they'll still be musician pals when they're old and grey!
MORE GLEN PLZ. The maximum amount of Glen that can be structurally accommodated. THX U
Cheap doesn’t always mean bad and expensive doesn’t always mean good.
You two are just fantastic together you can never stop these videos
The world needs more Glen's 😂
I like the purple on black, very cool. Also, classic Status Quo (especially from 70 - 77) were the absolute business.
Yes, for more, Glen.😊

Anything is better than a Chibson! ❤
My headstock had similar dings..... Came from rocking out below a ceiling fan😂
The higher end Squiers are being played by professional guitarist..so don't leave that out
Mike Rutherford from Genesis is one who plays Squier guitar
So are Epiphones
The guy from Twisted Sister has stated numerous times that he prefers an Epiphone to anything else.

Sold my Epi LP Blueburst during covid. Pretty bummed I did that even though I have walls full of others. Great guitar.

I have a Squier Tele. It's a great guitar for the money.
Funnily enough, mine has had a purple pick-guard fitted too, before I bought it.
Love the tele, locking tuners are the only mod I would do.

I have two Squier Mustangs of the Vintage Modified variety and they’re pretty good! Last of the Rosewood fretboards.

Always love a Glen cameo. then we get a Back to the Future reference from Glen? Thats a good Sunday.
The purple makes that the coolest tele ever...and Glen and I rarely see eye to eye.
Glen is cool
Electrosocket jacks are definitely the way to go.
It reminds me of my Indonesian Squire Strat from the same era, series and that's in roughly the same condition. It was also my first "real" guitar.
I bought a €160 ish Harley Benton ES 335 thingy. Bloody wonderful and not a thing wrong with it.
Lmaooo peeing in the wall 😂😂😂
