I'm throwing my own fan analysis of Art's behavior for pure fun! Him getting up from the chair was more of an act of forgiveness to Clark. Let me explain. Keep in mind, Art is Helen's FATHER so look at things from his eyes. Think back to the first vacation. While Clark is a good dude overall, he's had many jerk-ass moments. He flirts with other women. Practically cheated on Helen in the first movie. Pulled a gun and kidnapped a man at Wally World in that as well! Not too mention nearly killing his whole family in a road rage incident in this movie. In my Head canon Helen told her Father about the things Clark had done over the years and it caused him a lot of anger and resentment towards Clark. Honestly I think this is the only time Clark ever actually apologized for things he has done. Seeing Clark take ownership of his mistakes for the first time led Art to look at Clark with some respect for the first time in a very long time. In my head Art is not being an asshole father-in-law for the sake of being an asshole father in law. He's an angry and bitter father and grand father who never fully confronted Clark for disrespecting his daughter and grand children over the years.
