I once heard this performance described as, "she's not a bad singer, she just makes choices, and every choice is the wrong one" and I think about it all the time
The best part about repeat viewings is that you can see the genius that went into choreographing the ensemble around Marla. I particularly love the two kids playing patty-cake before looking traumatized by the tree being cut down, and the three dancers entering BOUNCING on the three balls before they throw them, besides all the random abuse Marla heaps on the dancers, but I really just love how the poor bear can't stay propped up on the balls of his feet at all!
I cannnot describe the feeling of going back to a video with comments from 11 years ago, and still feeling like its something everyone needs to see at least once
2:54-3:04 she nails it. It is so hard to sing so bad and make it sound so good. Reminds me of Madeline Kahn's performance in Blazing Saddles. On par with it definitely.
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR RE-POSTING! me and my friend used to sing this to each other every day last year, and at one point we were going to re-create it for our senior project! alas, the recreation never took place. but the video must live on!!
Oh god. I saw Pocahontas today and I couldn't stop laughing when she sings this song. I had to pause and watch this. I'm pretty sure my fav. part is the random "YEAH" she throws in. Lol
Connor, I have a studio recording of this song that sounds similar. It was not labeled and someone told me it was Alix Korey. So, this is all I have ever known. Do you know anything about the original studio version? Why does it often sound different? Where does the recorded accompaniment come from? I really want to have clarity about this. Any and all details would be appreciated.
Hello, Connor, I accidentally deleted your comment on my page. Do you know anything about the video recording that claims to be Marla Weiner? Can you tell me more about your creation of this?
I have no idea what this is from, but I was already in hysterics over Marla, and then you have Marin Mazzie at 3:41 and...well, that's all she wrote. No longer breathing. It's fine.

I have used this in more than one graduate seminar in my teaching career as an example of well-structured performance art. Brava!
