- Today we are at the Hirst Wood Burial ground in Shipley.
We are here to preserve an open grave that's probably been in this dangerous state for the last 20 years.
This is part of an awareness video with Hirst Wood Regeneration group and St Paul's Parish Church, Shipley.
We are looking to recruit volunteers to help us maintain this amazing burial ground.

Top blokes...they volunteer to do that which has to be the ultimate respect for the dead and their families ✔️
A wonderful job, You all need to be recognised by the Bradford City Council for your work. I know this will never happen, so from myself To the Team WELL DONE 10/10 ***** 5 Stars and thank you for the video.
We really appreciate your kind words.
Keep in touch. Thanks 😊
The volunteers did an outstanding job. I cannot express enough gratitude for their dedication to restoring this long-neglected grave.
❤️
Excellent upload and very interesting...
I've said it before - Graham is an unsung hero of Bradford, and our city is all the better for the services of him and his team!
Awesome work people!! You are all amazing and wonderful that these people will be remembered. ❤
We appreciate your comment . Thank you 😊
You guys all of you are amazing guys and the work you do you truly are doing gods work.
Great job on the restoration. I work in a large cemetery in the US and we do restorations from time to time.
All the way from US.
Brilliant! Do share your work , and thanks for watching ✌️
Incredible work. I have ancestors buried in this cemetery and knowing that there are others out there that care for this ground is heartwarming
❤️
Excellent effort to all involved. The most meaningful work I have seen in a long while congratulations !
Thank you so much, and thanks for connecting.
Wow what a video incredible. Really enjoyed watching this restoration just wish the video.was longer
Watch this space, please.
There are some important stories attached to some graves that we will be documenting.
Thanks for your comment. 👍🏾
Can you please pass on our gratitude to Graham and his team for the wonderful work that they do restoring these graves.
Also thanks to you Riaz for highlighting this cemetery on one of your previous videos, we have a connection to a family grave with an inscription to their son who was killed on the first day on the Somme that we researched into.
We went to visit it after your first video, so thank you so much for all that you do.
We plan to go back and to tidy the grave up again but the place has difficult terrain.
👏
Thanks for your kind words.
It's a beautiful place and quite unique.
I am keen to know which grave you are referring to. Thanks for watching.
@@BradfordThroughTheLens Riaz, You highlighted the cemetery during some research I was doing. The grave is in a bit of a mess not far from the main entrance. The family plot Number is D133. Stead Taylor and Mary Elizabeth Taylor and also George Stead Taylor of the Bradford Pals Killed in action 1st July 1916 aged 19, his body was never found so his name is on the Thiepval Memorial in France (2A 2C 2D) yet his parents added him to a the side stone marking in tribute.
@Thirdfish interesting bit of information.
It all helps. Thank you.
Nice job everyone ❤
🙂

This was SOOOOOO INTERESTING!! Well done, gentlemen!!💞❤👍👍💕
I'm glad you found it interesting and informative. Thank you.
@@BradfordThroughTheLens It was VERY INFORMATIVE!! For example, I NEVER knew some graves had multiple chambers to bury multiple family members in!!
Top job Graham!
Thank you 👍🏾
Thank you Gentlemen for your endeavours in preserving your local history and showing respect to the people buried there alas too many burial grounds and Cemeterys are neglected in a disrespectful attempt to save councils money or to close them to sell off for future building projects Well done and more power to you and your project.
Appreciate your kind words, and we are hoping it will encourage people to join in.
Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
These Cemeteries definitely deserve to be restored and respected as they were. when first made they also have a place in educating people about the subject of Death and how to respect the different Values this has for all cultures. The Victorians made Death part of life unfortunately most younger people shy away from this fact.
@@williambailey5031 Exactly 💯

Was that man doing the work in a documentry a few yerars ago called Bradford: City Of Dreams??
Well spotted.
Yes , it's Graham Swain. Thanks for watching ✌️
Excellent work, grave looks 100% better now. One thing though, maybe instead of painting over the lead lettering with paint, maybe just rub patinatious oil over the letters to bring them back to the their original darkness to stand out against the stone. Great video, great work. New subscriber to your channel. Thanks for sharing
We appreciate you taking time out to watch and commenting.
Thanks for your suggestion 😊
I will pop over and check your channel out too.
