I always thought Anuk su na moon was done dirty - she's always the martyr. The pharaoh would've killed Imhotep for touching her, so they kill him. Then, takes the rap and kills herself so he can get away. She spent thousands of years in Egyptian rave hell while he chooses to save a book instead of her and she dies again. She gets reincarnated, finds him, and he reunites her soul with her body. She's only alive again a few days before he wants her to sacrifice for him again.
It's so heartbreaking because it's such a real burden of mothers or those who want to be one. We see the dangers of the world and then fear for our children and what they'll have to deal with when we bring them into it 😢
And it comes when she's giving him a straight up "Give me a f**king break" look too! It's perfect because anyone who's ever loved a person who could/should be voiced by Billy Connolly has 100% made that face a million times and he effortlessly leans into it in order to get her to try something that'll be good for her. It may play into stereotypes and all but that's fine. Some people completely fit them, especially in a story about being stuck between one's true self and tradition/expectations. That's what true good spouse-ing looks like right there!
12:37 that "Mamma!" always makes me tear up. Imagine her, not knowing anything about her family and assuming her child is dead, in such a terrible and dehumanising place, and she hears her son calling "Mommy!" and speaking so cheerfully with his dad. I'm not even a mother, but I can imagine what she must have felt
Ikr, I think at some point before it was mentioned that they killed any child that came along with their parents. And to hear her little boy still alive 😭 my heart
It's sadly bittersweet that Adam and Barbara, despite being deceased, are far better parents to Lydia than her living ones. It's gently implied towards the beginning that they're infertile, but I love how close and loving their relationship is.
Possibly, we can infer that the Deetses found their way to being the parents Lydia deserved. They compromised with Adam and Barbara and shared the house and Lydia with them. It's really much more beautiful really! Lydia's dad and stepmother found their best selves after being scared to death by Beetleguise. 😍
You missed the best part of Fergus and Elenor interaction: when she said she had her own doubts when she got engaged and Fergus is like “yeah, wait what?” 😂😂
That moment Fergus was all like "wait, at first you doubted me?" Eleanor uses the fact that she eventually fell in love with him, to justify an arranged marriage for her daughter.
I love at the end of the movie when Elenor turns human again and Fergus sweeps her up and gives her all the kisses, including the dip kiss, in front of everyone even though he is a mighty warrior king, she is always graceful and proper, and pda isn’t heavily condoned at this time. I also love that when he stumbles when giving some speeches, like addressing everyone at the beginning of the gathering about the presentation of the suitors, she takes over gracefully and he lets her do most of the talking which wouldn’t be normal during that time. They are a power couple who are true partners.
@@Curlyteacher537 they were adorable thought the whole movie! Think about it, after Merida managed to get everyone to agree about breaking tradition, Fergus didn’t stay celebrating with the men, he went looking for his ill wife to tell her about it. He was so proud of their daughter and wanted her to know
The moment when they're role-playing the conversation between Elenor and their daughter and Fergus starts out acting like Merida and just smiles and nods at his wife like "go on, it's your turn" was just hilarious 😂
I'm so glad The Mummy Returns was featured, because the love between Rick and Evie was really displayed even greater seeing the lengths they would each go through to save each other and their son!!!! The way Imhotep realized Anuksunamun wouldn't do the same for him was actually heartbreaking.
I've never watched that scene and thought Imhotep was being selfish so much as he would have run through stalactites (they hold "tite" to the ceiling) for her. Everything he did in both movies was for the sake of being with her and giving her the world. When she wouldn't for him, he knew that she didn't love him as much as he loved her and it wrecked him.
@@sarahanan7015 all true, but I'd argue that he pushed her past her limits first, by pressing on after being de-powered by gods. She wasn't really comfortable with him marching into a deadly peril being de-powered. Anksunamun wasn't afraid to test their relationship, the woman went through hell and beyond, she took her own life without a hesitation. I think that her point of view here is usually overlooked. Then again, maybe she was just afraid of going through underworld again.
@@dohavename6775 I think you have a really good point there. Couple that with, I would say, the fact that Rick and Evie are the opposite-Rick is the more cautious one and Evie’s more likely to see her limitations as an obstacle to overcome rather than a hard stop.
THANK YOU FOR COMMENTING ABOUT IT! I literally came to the comments looking for someone that actually paused and read it! It's fantastic and I will prolly screenshot it bc its hilarious and I need more joy in my life.
24:48 for anyone who missed it. I wonder if there's enough of us to crowdfund it - maybe like a 5 min proof of concept to get a studio to commit to doing it..?
What I love most about Fergus and Eleanor is that even though their marriage was arranged, so they didn't choose themselves as partners, they still made it work and managed to really love each other.
@@cdogthehedgehog6923 Why is this disgusting? Arranged marriages are not great, and they could have been happy their entire lifed, but they managed to love each other and be great partners, I think thats nice :(
@@sera-chan8194 Arranged marriage is treating your kids as property and a bargaining chip for political/social gains. The only way its even _slightly_ okay is if both are adults (preferably 21+) and if they both concent. But still, its unnecessary manipulation and pressure.
@@cdogthehedgehog6923 The commenter wasn't implying arranged marriages are good though so I'm not sure why you're arguing with them. They are only saying they think it's impressive they made the best of a situation where they were forced to marry someone they (at the start) didn't love and worked hard for it.
There's a difference between arranged and forced marriages. Arranged is when they get introduced by a third party (like parents) for the purpose of marriage and the marriage will only go through with the full consent of both parties. (So, essentially matchmaking.) Forced marriage is when a person is pressured or expected to marry against their wishes.
the thing about Rick and Evie is that it breaks the stereotype of action movies. Everyone knows that, even though the hero gets the girl and rides off into the sunset with her at the end - the next action movie in the series will have him conveniently single again. Because 'Real Heroes' aren't tied down by baby diapers and winter proofing the house and actually having to mature the way being in a long term relationship requires you to have to. Movie writers/directors assume that once you 'settle down' that's the end of your ability to have adventures. They all want their 'here's looking at you kid' moment because Obviously the public want their heroes single to imprint upon. Especially during the time Mummy 2 came out, that was so standard that anything that wasn't that way was a HUGE shake up. So we got this movie where the hero WAS changing diapers (or had) and winter proofing the house, etc and he was DELIGHTED and DEEPLY COMMITTED to doing that. And yet it wasn't a joke. He wasn't a joke. His marriage wasn't a punchline about how horrible being tied down was. Rick loved being married with a kid and he was STILL the coolest action hero who got to do adventures and look cool while also respecting and adoring his wife and it was all so sincere. The entire movie treated their marriage sincerely instead of winking and nudging the audience over it. It took audience investment to a huge another level because it was safe for us to invest that kind of emotion because the movie was already investing it as well. Rick and Evie's relationship carries the second movie and gives it all the depth of emotion a 'one and done' hero can't. We got a hero that loved being married and still got to be a hero and, especially back then, it was such a huge thing. No wonder we all fell in love.
jsouth5577-What you said about Rick in The Mummy movies is exactly why Brendan Fraser has always been my favourite action/adventure hero. He's completely believable as an action hero, while at the same time still being incredibly sweet, & not afraid to show his more vulnerable side.
@@sadespain01 Which actors in The Mummy or The Mummy Returns were married in real life? Rachel Weisz has only been married to Daniel Craig, and they didn't get married until 2011, and Brendan had just married his ex Afton Smith in 1998.
What all of these couples have in common is that beyond the physical, there's a strong undercurrent of friendship. They don't just love each other, they LIKE each other. They genuinely enjoy each other's company, which is a lot of onscreen romances are sadly lacking.
100% agree! If you can't easily imagine the two characters being just friends, then they're not a good couple. Something that's true for real life relationships as well if you ask me!
@@fairoadiaryNot everyone wants romance though. :P. Some people really _do_ just want sex. Please do remember that it's not only asexual people that exist, aromantic people exist too. People say that sex is overrated, but what about romance? @hannahmetzger4880 But when you look at it from the perspective of a movie or book or other narrative The genre is romance- so people watching or reading the romance genre want romance. Sex is often involved but the emphasis is on the romance and the balancing of the two people in a relationship within that romance…if you want a story about sex then, to put it bluntly, watch Porn.
The thing that makes me incredibly happy about Fergus and Eleanor's relationship (at least from what we see in the movie) is that NOT ONCE does he say to Eleanor "hey do you want me to talk to Merida?" He recognized that while he can help workshop HOW Eleanor can relay her feelings to Merida (and that Merida would probably be a lot more open to receiving the criticism from Fergus) he CANT be the one to attempt to repair the relationship; that is something they have to do for themselves.
Rick and Eve are so good. Rick supports Eve's nerdiness instead of mocking her. And Eve recognises Rick's strength, but also understands he can be vulnerable. As someone who was often mocked for my love of Egyptian history as a child I loved their connection. My husband very much loves my history nerdiness.
"Pongo reassures her by making a promise he can't keep" In Pongo's defense, even if Cruella seemed sketchy, who the hell could have predicted something like THAT?
Absolutely. Most movie 'relationships' are shallow, based on appearance more than anything else. How can we teach children that marriages are love, and that it is actually work to keep them up. I learned, over the course of a year, that when I feel jealous, it's because I'm not getting enough touch. Now I just go over and play-demand physical affection. Hugs, cheek caressing, gentle kisses on the forehead. Physical intimacy, but not necessarily anything sexual. It's amazing how good I feel after holding hands and looking into his eyes. Racing into the bedroom and having L shaped blankets is nice, but I'll take the caress on the cheek every day. And I never feel jealous anymore.
To have some representation for sure. Not that 100% of relationships in media should be healthy, but for a while there it felt like it was like 10-1 unhealthy.
The adult dogs in 101 Dalmations was an excellent example I never would have thought of. Perdita isn't diminished to make Pongo look more capable. Both of them fight to the best of their ability out of love for their puppies, as everyone knows they'd do in their position.
Yeah, I didn't get Alan saying Pongo goes along with Perdy rather than is openly ready to fight for his loved ones. He is actively aggressive to Cruella throughout the whole movie; a dog knows a villain when he sees one, lol.
He's not aggressive, but he stoically doesn't like her. Her body language, voice, and how she treats Roger and how she acts towards anita. Her coat probably smells weirdly too dog for a canine nose and the smoke out of the pipe? stinks. As an adult, I really appreciate how they still behave like dogs even without the voices 0:53 . It's all on the body language and how they react. The reality of the breed and dogs is right there.
The Addams family, Gomez and Morticia are my number one couple, supportive, attracted to each other physically, spiritually and mentally, applauding small and big achievements and understanding each other in a way that no one outside does.
As someone who grew up with the Mummy movies, seeing Rick and Evie on here warms my heart, especially since they truly are such a loving and healthy couple.
The little smile thst Imhotep goves Rick and Evie before letting himself fall always gets me. They've been the thorn in his resurrected love story twice now, but he sees and appreciates their love. And for a brief moment, they're not his enemies anymore, they're what he aspired to be.
Who says that that couldn't have been his next lifetime if they hadn't f'd around with killing the big Pharaoh and the bus resurrection attempts. Does he even realise the work that might go into that sheet? He could have shown respect by learning the lesson and having faith and trusting those 42 but noooooooo he thought he knew better. *Cue eye rolling here*
I've heard a lot of complaints about Brave but I thought it was really good and Fergus and Elenor's relationship was really really sweet. I also appreciate that they let Elenor look like a mom, she's got wrinkles and gray in her hair, and isn't just a copy paste of Merida like they did with Frozen
To be fair, we never see Anna's parents at that age in Frozen. The girls were young when their parents died, and Merida's parents might've been older when they started having kids.
I think Brave suffered from changing directors/base storytellers midway through. The first was Brenda Chapman who had co-directected Prince of Egypt and was very focused on the emotional beats of the story. She came up with the whole mother daughter relationship as a part of the story (one of the best parts), based on her own relationship with her daughter. Disney-Pixar replaced her with another dude due to differences in vision/wanting more action, so you have a completely different style mixed in that can be jarring. I believe first director was upset with how high handed Pixar was about it,and where they took story
@mggardiner4066 oh yeah absolutely the movie went through SO many problems that I am much more lenient to the things within the movie that others complain about. Imagine getting rid of the co director of the PRINCE OF EGYPT 🫠 imagine how good Brave could have been
Hiccup and Astrid!!! Especially the way she supports him in the final film. She wanted to marry him, but she knew he wasn’t ready either. She didn’t leave him though, she stuck by him and supported him till he could be independent without toothless. 💕 Edit: I don't think I worded this comment well at all XD But if you've seen the films, you know what I'm trying to say haha!
I was so waiting for them to mention Merida's parents from Brave. I always found them such a realistic non-dramatic example of a romantic couple having been a couple for many years and have matured beyond the pointless honeymoon phase and they clearly care for and respect their children (except for the strain in Eleanor and Merida's relationship at one point but they're reconciled so).
I love the fact that Pongo and Perdita are equals and that is taken for granted. Pongo says "its up to us" not "its up to me". Both of them as a team go to rescue their children. A lesser movie would have relegated the mother to sighing wistfully at the window as the first snow falls while her husband goes on the mission.
Entertainingly, in the book (which is very good, btw, highly recommend!) Perdita is a third adult dog in the house and she does stay home to looks after their pets humans while Pongo and Missus go off to find the puppies. So you have two females filling both roles as a comfortable fact rather than mere trope-filling.
I think it's allivated and more accepted because they're dogs. Perdida is allowed to act as a mother would if society's expectations and rules didn't reduce the ladies to be bystanders of waiting and expecting the men to fix everything. There's still some social norms of the era that exist in the movie, but she's with pongo. She's helping where she feels she can. Through the blizzard, pongo knows its not fair to her to be only one to make sure there's no stragglers while he solely watches out for threats; its taking everything just to soldier through the blizzard as is. 99 puppies is a lot, and needs more than one dog to look out for all those puppies, so as a team, pongo is equally responsible and helps her in keeping track of all the puppies.
My favorite movie moment for a marriage was from How to Train Your Dragon 2 when Stoic reunited with his wife after thinking she was gone forever. The way he caresses her face and says "you're as beautiful as the day I lost you" brings me to tears. All that time and not once did his love for her waiver.
I love the follow-up to this they put in HTTYD3. The flashback to little Hiccup coming down the stairs to find Stoic having an emotional moment by the hearth. In their conversation, he asks "Are you going to get us a new mom?" and Stoic replies "I don't want another. Your mom was the only woman for me. She was the love of my life. But with love comes loss, son. It's part of the deal. Sometimes it hurts, but in the end, it's all worth it. There's no greater gift than love." Beautiful stuff.
Rick and Evie are literally what I aspire to. They are such an inspiration and so rare to see in movies. 98% of the time in the second movie the couple has broken up and have to get back together. But that film went Nope and made them even more into each other than when they were falling in love. There is such deep loyalty and support and romance and these two can’t keep their hands off each other. I’m honestly surprised they only ever had one child. With the way they look at one another there should have been at minimum 6 children in that family. I aspire to be that in love and that devoted 10, 20, 30 years in, etc.
I especially love when she gets drunk, and say "I will kiss you" just to fall asleep, he is obviously disappointed, but he kisses the air; he doesn't try to kiss her. She was willing, she was very clear about it, but she was passed out, so that was a no-go. He totally respects her as a person; perfect anti-rape culture scene. And thorough the second movie, it's very clear they have learned from each others; none think they are better than the other, that they know better. They recognize each other's strengths, respect them, and borrow what they can to be stronger individuals, and a stronger couple.
I've always LOVED Perdita's voice, as well as Pongo's. When she says she wishes she wasn't having puppies out of fear, that emotion in her voice is VISCERAL.
I also think it's worth noting that Pongo doesn't judge her for that thought, he comforts her and accepts her feelings. Pregnancy is hard and dark thoughts happen, having a non-judgmental partner can make all the difference.
They also forgot to mention the obvious passion Fergus has for Eleanor as well. Hes constantly distracted by her beauty and i think its adorable and sweet that that side of their love is just as strong as the communicating
Yes. I think next to Bob and Helen Parr AKA Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, Elinor and Fergus are the most PDA heavy couple I’ve seen in a Disney and/or Pixar film. You can tell that Fergus is crazy about her, and though Elinor gets at him for showing PDA in public, she still enjoys it.
The fact that Rick is even wearing a wedding ring AT ALL in that time period is impressive in itself. Wedding bands for men didn't become the norm until the mid-20th century. Side note: I would totally watch that new Mummy movie, too.
I love Stoic the Vast and his relationship with his wife in the second movie. It's the first time they've seen each other in years and she is prepared to receive his anger due to running away. For Stoic, everything falls away for him and all he can think about is she is just as beautiful as the day he "lost" her. It's a degree of love you don't often see in cartoons.
Absolutely agree! This was one of the first things that sprang to mind when I saw the title of this video. (the first was of course Gomez and Morticia Addams)
I love that Rick KNEW that Evie was coming for him. At that distance, it would be hard to tell whether someone is gazing at you as a way to say goodbye or is about to head straight into the fray. But Rick knew it wasn’t even a question whether she would-all she had to do was work out out how.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate Billy Connelly. Even in just a voice role he brought so much of his humour and wit to the role of King Fergus. Like I literally cannot imagine anyone else in that role. Also please sense Billy Connelly strength and good energy as he is currently living with Parkinson's Diseases and it's horrible and he's magical so yeah send him love and positive energy please.
I've always liked how Imhotep looks at Evee and Rick, tearful but I think in that moment he understands and reconciles with himself that their love is the greater love.
@Pomshka I know, right? He was, like, "I, literally, put myself through hell and back TWICE for my girlfriend. I risked and gave up so much for her, but, when I needed HER the most, she chose to save her own skin." I felt so bad for him in this moment. When I saw that movie for the first time, I totally thought Rick and/or Evie were going to try to save him. At that point, without all his fancy supernatural powers, he posed no threat to anyone. At most, all he would've been able to do was swing a punch. They could've brought him back, taught him to speak English and how to live in the modern world, and he would've been an interesting ally in "Tomb of the Dragon Emperor". (9/13/2023)
@@CynderSpirit But who could take on the younger role? Hmm...my choice would probably be the guy, who played Tutankhamun in the SPIKE TV mini-series, "Tut". I think his first name was Edam, but I can't think of his last name. He had longer hair at the time. If he still has it that way, all they'd have to do would be shave it off, or give him a bald-cap. (9/13/2023)
OMG, I had that same thought!!!! It is written all over Imhotep's face as he looks at Rick & Evie, then looks back to where Anuksunamum USED to be standing! 🤣😂🤣
I always liked the relationship the parents had in SpyKids. It was funny but supportive at the same time - they had developed that attitude of us against the world (despite coming from different sides in espionage) and gradually extended it to include a whole circle of allies. This was another B-grade series that surprised us
I just want to mention something I was always impressed with regarding the Rick/Evie and Imhotep/Anck-Su-Namun scene because it wasn't quite mentioned in the video. When Anck-Su-Namun runs from Imhotep, his entire reality narrative is shattered. Since his whole identity and motivation hinges on their perfect and eternal love, when he realizes that it never really existed he no longer needs to continue with his goals. Then in a brilliant moment of writing and acting right before he lets himself go, he looks at Rick/Evie and witnesses their incredible relationship as the one he thought he had with Anck-Su-Namun and... smiles! That small smirk is an amazing moment of recognition and validation. One final observation and maybe I'm imagining this, but there also a moment as Rick/Evie look back at Imhotep struggling on the abyss recently abandoned and their faces soften from fear and anger to a sort of empathetic pity. Even after everything that has happened, they can still recognize his moment of pure suffering from being abandoned by the supposed love of his life. This is also an amazing moment of recognition and validation from our heroes. The mirroring between every aspect in this scene is amazing.
@@adeletaylor6143 I do. Imhotep could have been a protagonist. Like Rick, they were both rule breakers. Imhotep, I'd argue, just goes a little too far, and has to deal with a lot more failure.
Mad magazine had a comic showing that after Imhotep let go, his lover returned for him, having retrieved ropes and other equipment to rescue him with. Puts a different spin on the scene.
I just want to let editor know that I ABSOLUTELY PAUSED THE VIDEO TO READ YOUR ENTIRE RANT ON WANTING ANOTHER MUMMY SEQUEL. And I absolutely agree. How do we make this happen. I need it too.
OMG, that moment between Evie and Brendon Frasier... He starts screaming at her to run specifically because he can SEE that she's gathering her courage to move towards him. He recognized that! He recognized she was about to do something stupidly brave, and it horrified him. What a moment!
So to the editor who wrote the entire Editor's note at 24:49: i completely agree. I need this in my life and will also revive a mummy if one is required.
What I also love about Rick and Evelyn is when their son gets kidnapped they don't blame the other person. Other couples do that most of the time and it makes their marriage fall apart. Instead they stay strong together ❤❤
I am so happy Evie and Rick made the list! growing up the first two Mummy movies were one of my favorite movies and I just love their dynamic and how fun the movies are. prayer circle for Alan to talk a 4th movie with Rachel into existence
I actually wouldn't be opposed to the idea of a film about Evie and Jonathan's parents. She mentions that their father was a famous explorer who married an Egyptian woman.
My favorite moment of the scene they focused on with Rick and Evie is that Rick KNOWS Evie. He KNOWS that she's gonna do it and he BEGS her not to so she won't get hurt
I really adore Fergus and Elinor dynamic, with him being silly and protective and her being intimidating as hell XD just remembered when all the men are fighting and she just walks through the room and everyone stops XD showing respect and pretending that nothing happened, and Fergus trying to explain and being like "yes, my love" and he just sits 🤣 They make laugh a loooot ✨

I haven't seen 101 Dalmatians in a long time, but I have to say that the animators did a fantastic job capturing the movements and personality of Dalmatians. My wife and I adopted a pure bred dalmatian last year and Pongo is basically just our dog in animated form with the way he moves
a big part of the reason why that era of disney animation has that sketchy look to it is that so much of the movements were rotoscoped from live footage. it's also why many scenes were "re-skinned" and reused in subsequent movies, like baloo dancing in the jungle book getting recycled for robin hood.
@@dietotaku That is not why there is a sketchy look. Rotoscoping has nothing to do with the look of this film. Rotoscoping is tracing live action footage. The Disney artists used live action footage as reference for this film (and the films that came after and before it), but they were never directly tracing and copying live action footage of characters into their drawings. The sketchy style of this film came from the fact that Sleeping Beauty did not do well upon its release, so in order to save money from the huge box office loss, the inking section of the Ink & Paint department was closed down, and the technique of using a Xerox machine to transfer cleaned up animation drawings from paper to cell was developed instead. Xerox is the only way this film could have been made at the time, due to the incredible number of spotted dogs on screen. And so because Xerox was being used to transfer drawings to cells, the art director also decided to continue that sketchy look into the design of the backgrounds as well, for a consistent design across the entire film. 101 Dalmations was thankfully a box office success, and so the Xerox technique continued into the 60's, 70's and 80's. And as you had mentioned, some animation was re-used in several films during this time, which also is unrelated to rotoscoping (in these cases, the animators would use the original drawings from a previous film as heavy reference in regard to timing & movement when creating new animation for a new film). Eventually they were able to update the Xerox to use brown lines instead of just black. Colored lines similar to what you see in films made before 101 Dalmations did not return to Disney animation until the invention of CAPS (Computer Animation Production System, which was a computer software that allowed artists to digitally ink & paint animation drawings. This technique was first used as a test in a single shot of The Little Mermaid, and then used for entire films starting with Rescuers Down Under. CAPS was used through the Renaissance & Post Renaissance until the studio switched to 3D animated films in the mid 2000's.
@@BeeWhistler Eeuugh, sorry gotta disagree with you on that. The remake of animated films to live action is a trend that I wish would die a horrible death. I wouldn't even wish it upon a film as troubled as Black Cauldron.
I’d love to see you cover Elle and Emmett’s relationship from the two “Legally Blonde” movies in a future episode! They’re such a supportive and wonderful couple, and both characters are such kind and helpful people
Thank you SO MUCH for the love for The Mummy Returns!!! I love that movie and was so surprised that it was badly reviewed. Rick and Evie's marriage is so solid and so beautiful.
As an animal person, I will say that it’s more an individual thing, as to whether a dog/cat is huggy or not. Some don’t mind hugs, some will tolerate it with the right people, others like/accept hugs from anyone, whilst others just don’t like hugs at all.
The reason for the pencil lines in 101 Dalmations (also Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood and Jungle Book) was because after Sleeping Beauty the animation department basically got told to find a way to save money or they'd be shut down, and so they ended up using Xerox to allow them to transfer their drawings directly to animation cels, bypassing the expensive inking process and giving that era of movies its distinctive look. It was a cost-cutting measure, basically, but one that definitely paid off.
The retracing of sequences from previous books also came out of that imperative, but I seem to recall that it failed to save money and even costed more...
@@danielbilodeau9045 Correct. All films made after 101 Dalmations in the 60's, 70's, and part of the 80's were created using this same Xerox method. The colored lines didn't return to films until CAPS (Computer Animation Production Software) was invented, which allowed the artists to scan cleaned up animation drawings into the computer, and then ink and paint the drawings digitally.
Also, using Xerox for 101 Dalmatians in particular was a sanity-saving measure because can you imagine hand drawing ONE HUNDRED AND THREE black-and white dogs over and over again?!? (the commentary is mine, but the note about using Xerox for all of the dogs is from a DVD extra...)
@@julinas1878 Oh yeah, I mentioned that detail to someone else here in a different comment. That would have been a crazy difficult and time consuming task! If I recall correctly, it was the decision to make 101 Dalmatians that spurred the invention of using Xerox to transfer drawings to cells (thanks to the brilliant Ub Iwerks), as they quickly realized it would be impossible to ink so many characters without driving up the time and the cost to complete the film.
One thing I love about CT's healthy relationship episodes, is that Jono and Alan discuss healthy relationships through carrying out their HEALTHY friendship! I can see how relaxed and accepting both of them are to each other, that just doubled the volume of "Healthy".
My cat had kittens and she was more protective of those little squeakers than herself. When she thought her kittens were in any amount of danger her entire demeanor would change and she went on the offensive. She's a small cat of course so I can easily see a dalmatian becoming a demon dog when protecting their pups
Fergus’s Merida impression is legitimately one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen, and I hadn’t seen it in a good long while, so thank you for reminding me if it’s existence and hilarity 😆
I first watched Life is Beautiful when my 9th grade English teacher showed it to his classes because not only was he obsessed with it, it's a really good story with plenty of symbolism, foreshadowing, and good storytelling techniques. it destroyed me. the ending is absolutely worth it. also I recommend using subtitles if you want to, but the story is still comprehensible if you don't. such a good movie omg
I also watched it in school some 25 years ago, never knowing the title. I was little when we watched it and I never came to know what film it was. Until now. Because I did remember some of the scenes, it is SO powerful. So it is a big revelation to me to see some of it again after this many years. True masterpiece.
They’re not from a movie, but I’d love to see a dive into Bandit and Chili’s marriage from Bluey. They’re both great, but I feel like we talk more about them being great parents (which they definitely are) than them being a great couple
I'd really love a video about Bluey as a whole because it has so many examples of Bandit and Chilli not only as great parents but as such a great couple. And the other adults have great parenting/couple moments, too!
I watched Life is Beautiful in high school and everyone in the room was either crying or choked up. Absolutely amazing movie despite the heartbreak, highly recommend ♥️
@@VorpalSnickerSnack I highly recommend it. It's very wholesome despite the horrors they endure and it has a beauty to it that I haven't seen yet in any other Holocaust movie. Do make sure to have some tissues around.
I have never cried harder in a movie theater. I cried so hard and for so long my face was buried in my husband’s sleeve (which was sopping wet) and because we were sitting on the aisle where most of the audience had to pass us on their way out, lots of people asked him if I was going to be okay.
FINALLY someone is acknowledging how FANTASTIC Adam and Barbara Maitland are! They're so in love with themselves, their life (and afterlife) and they're such good parents to Lydia, I'm glad they're finally getting some praise for it!
The movie marriage that always stood out to me was Mr and Mrs Smith with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It came out around the time I got married and my husband and I watched it so many times. But it always stood out to me because so often in movies I’d see the couple get together, or a relationship fall apart, but I hadn’t seen too many movies where the couple really fought to stay together. (And the end where they’re in couples therapy and she say “oh! We’re remodeling the house” slays me every time!) Also I thought it was a great example of having a common interest.
That's interesting cos what I really liked is, that despite becoming completely disillusioned by the other, after having a marriage that was not only a complete lie but never involved any trust to start with (basically cos they didn't trust anyone) they eventually decided to start over and invest in the marriage
When I rewatched Mr. and Mrs. Smith as an adult I realized that I kind of loved how Pitt's character was the more emotional of the two and that Jolie was the one who struggled when it seems like usually the genders are portrayed the other way.
I love at the end of Brave when Elenor turns human again and Fergus sweeps her up and gives her all the kisses, including the dip kiss, in front of everyone even though he is a mighty warrior king, she is always graceful and proper, and pda isn’t heavily condoned at this time. I also love that when he stumbles when giving some speeches, like addressing everyone at the beginning of the gathering about the presentation of the suitors, she takes over gracefully and he lets her do most of the talking which wouldn’t be normal during that time. They are a power couple who are true partners.
How about Rapunzel's parents in Tangled? They supported each other through the loss of their daughter, Thank you for talking about healthy relationships, so often the toxic ones are highlighted "to make it interesting".
I love that y’all highlighted Rick and Evie in Mummy returns. That was one of my favorite movies growing up mostly because of their relationship in the movie. The campy action parts were fun too. Love the shoutout for it.
I love that Alan loves the art style of 101 Dalmatians (as do I) because Walt Disney himself HATED IT. They had to change their art style to this more "raw" looking animation because doing it the way they had been doing it, which rendered a much more romantic looking result which Walt absolutely loved (I believe Cinderella was his favourite movie but I could be wrong on that), was way too expensive for where they were at the time. It's so funny that something that Walt considered to be a downgrade is now looked at as being unique and cool
I came for this comment :) Just to add some more trivia: Sleeping Beauty was the one that Disney considered THE masterpiece, but it actually brought the company to the verge of bankruptcy because re-drawing the lines of the motion-drawings with colorful ink on every singular frame meant a huge a staff. Then as I remember, Disney got sick and was not available, and at the same time a new technology appeared: xerox! And the director of 101 Dalmatians used xerox to transfer the motion drawings to the actual frames - this is why it's possible to see the pencil lines, it's the most authentic to what the original drawers created as opposed the drawings in Sleeping Beauty where the color-lining artists over-drew the originals which sometimes lost some quality. The next film they were able to use the color-lining was Beauty and the Beast but there it was done by computer technology. The director said many-many years later that Disney never forgave him for 101 Dalmatians. I do adore the cartoon, and also the original novel which is very different, but so wholesome. And it has a sequel! I think I read both 100 times when I was a kid. :)
Honestly, Fergus and Elenor have been couple goals for me ever since I first watched the movie, because I love their relationship, they know small things about each other, Fergus is such a goof and they both unconditionally love each other and have fun together 🖤
Communication is super important! Learning your spouse’s love language(s) and finding even small ways to show them that they’re seen, loved and appreciated. Choosing that person day after day. Being there for each other and knowing they’ll always be there for you. After 12 years, that’s what I’ve learned.
Hiccup and Astrid I know they weren't married until the end of the 3rd HTTYD but Astrid is always there to support and encourage Hiccup when he doubts himself and Hiccup is fully aware of her ability to be a warrior and doesn't hold her back and reassures her through the films and the show RTTE that there will always be a Hiccup and an Astrid
Also a huge fan of Hiccup and Astrid. Did you feel that perhaps in the 3rd movie it felt a bit like they hadn't moved forward from the second? I was hoping they'd be married in that one and we'd get to see them navigate marriage while doing dragon stuff.
So glad that you are finally talking about Rick and Evie! Just sad that's not an entire episode. Their relationship, espacially in the second movie is so fascinating.
I LOVE that you put Rick and Evie not only on this list but at the top of the list! They are the best and I love seeing their juxtaposition with the selfishness of the evil couple.
I LOVE Adam and Barbara. As good as they are in the movie, the musical really highlights what good parents they are. There’s a whole scene where Lydia is feeling sad and rejected by her parents, so Adam cheers her up with bad dad jokes. Then Barbara comforts her by telling her she’s not strange or unusual, but a lovely little girl. It makes me tear up with happiness every time I see it 🥲
When my daughters said that Fergus and Elanor reminded them of my wife and I it was one of the biggest ego boosts of my life. Some of that may have been the dynamic between Fergus' goofy physical comedy and Elanor's responsible behavior but still, ego boost.
Rick and Evie have perfect trust. Each trusts that the other can hold up their end of any battle or puzzle solving or adventuring that they do. And they know that they'll be there for each other. It's my favorite marriage relationship in any movie. Stalactite has a C in it for Ceiling and Stalagmite has a G in it for Ground.
I loved that they knew each other well enough to anticipate how the other would act in any given situation. That end scene they showed is an obvious example but the bit where Evie is kidnapped she knows he'll be coming for her armed to the teeth and he knows she can help out with translations and stuff. It's nice to see a film couple that travel beyond the happily ever after bit (but that 3rd movie truly was a mistake)
My favorite married couples are Felix and Peppa from Encanto, and Julia and Paul Child from Julie and Julia (Wonder if their real life marriege is like on screen. Anyone decided to Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci play a married couple deserved everything. They are awsome.)
I’m a weird person so I have many theories on healthy relationships. I’ve boiled them down to three really really broad pillars: 1. You enjoy each others company 2. You support each other 3. You keep the romance alive I love it when I get to see those things in a relationship.
Enjoying each other's company is such an underrated trait in a healthy relationship. No one will make a sweeping Hollywood epic about two people who just like hanging out together, but it makes a huge difference in the long haul. This was one of the early "green flags" when I started dating my husband that this was something to hold onto.
"You keep the romance alive" - many couples today do not do this. instead of working hard to keep loving their partner... they just move on to someone else. Relationship's in today's society is in decay because people had been led to believe love is just suppose to be there. If its not there anymore, you find someone else, like a disposable easily replaced thing. For me love is like a flame, the more the pair keep working to keep it burning, the more it last. Letting it be by itself will eventually put it out.
@@jeebanjeeban87 This is a slippery slope. Love is not just an attraction/lust/passion - those eventually fizzle away, but love shouldn't. At least that's my experience. In my previous relationship, I had to work hard just to keep "loving" my ex, as you say. In my current marriage, however, it feels like I love my husband more and more each day, without putting any conscious effort in. Because I love him, in the true sense of that word; I love him for who he is, he's someone I deeply adore and want to be with, and so as long as he is himself, that love will never fade away. If I didn't "dispose of my easily replaceable" ex, I wouldn't have met my husband, and instead would be stuck in my horrible past relationship to this day. A terrifying thought. (Now that is not to say that love alone is enough for a relationship to be happy and healthy, that's definitely not the case.)
I know it's not a movie, or that they're not really married throughout a lot of the series, but Hiccup and Astrid from How To Train Your Dragon, had an amazing relationship! Even when they do eventually marry and have kids, they still love and support each other.
Also recognising the other's strength and encouraging it without jealousy. Hiccup didn't envy Astrid for being the better chief even though it was his birth right and Astrid encouraged him to follow his gut and his dreams and supported him. The trust it takes to let someone completely change your world view and your values without any resentment or envy is so beautiful to watch in them.
Rick and Evie are one of my favorite movie couples. Brendan and Rachel have amazing chemistry in those films and it's a big reason why they work. Yes the CGI leaves a lot to be desired, especially in #2, but they're still fun as hell. The entire cast is great.
Tbh I'm surprised they only have one kid, the chemistry between them. I just hope Alex's room is on the other side of the mansion so that he can get a good night's sleep without any noise disturbance 😂
I've been saying for a while, but My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I know the movie is mostly leading up to the marriage and doesn't show much of them as a couple going forward, but it's such a wholesome movie. I'd also just love to see an episode about the families doing their best to be open-minded and supportive even if each of them finds the other's ways to be strange and concerning. Neither side is perfect, but you can tell that they put the main characters' happiness above their own expectations, which can be a hard thing to do.
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! Once of the most heartbreaking and yet hilarious movies ever 🥺 Thank you for talking about it!! Totally couple AND parent goals 🤧 The fact that they're married in real life AHH
My favorite Disney couple is also a great example of "show not tell", and they really don't get a lot of screentime... but what we get says volumes. Tarzan's parents at the beginning of the animated Tarzan.
Not a married couple, but divorced co-parents Scott and Laura from the Santa Clause movies. They definitely don't start in a good place, but really find a healthy groove by the second movie, to the extent Charlie's half sister calls his dad "Uncle Scott." I'd also love Jonathan's take on Neil's counseling methods lol
I do agree that Rick and Eve's marriage is the absolute bestest in movie history!! The contrast of their partnership, how well they know each other, how supportive they are with each other even when they disagree and they have differing opinions. Their goal is to always push forward together. And, that Editor's note. YES!!! I will follow you in your quest to make the next The Mummy Movie!!! Count me in!!
Not a marriage per say, but a movie about marriage and real vs. idealized love and weddings: Corpse Bride. When I was younger, I wanted Emily to stay with Victor because she was the one on all the posters and did all the singing and dancing. But when I watched it again as an adult, I realized Victoria was the one Victor was supposed to be with because it was more real. I'd love to watch these 2 sit through the movie and talk about the 'idea' of love vs. 'actual' love. 😊
Huge fan of the first two Mummy movies. The first one came out of nowhere and was just perfect as an Indiana Jones serial actioneer. The second had a hard act to follow, but generally kept pace with the first. No knock on Maria Bello, but the Rick and Evie chemistry so held the first two together and it just was not there (or was not written properly) that it is no wonder that the fans of the first two tuned on the third. One of the joys of Mummy 2 was seeing how Rick and Evie had assumed some the others mannerisms, with Rick being a bit more thoughtful and reluctant to rush right in, while Evie, now, wasn't...
Bello herself isn't the problem, but I can't get past the fact that Rachel Weisz was replaced specifically because some studio jerks thought she wasn't sexy enough. Garbage.
One movie couple I’ve always loved is Ellie and Alan from Jurassic Park. I love how they work together, and how willing they are to protect each other when things are going wrong.
@@PittsburghSportsFan43eh… that’s probably because in the BOOK, by Michael Crichton, Alan and Ellie weren’t a couple - Ellie was literally married with children. They were just friends and colleagues.
@@phastinemoon I've read the book. Both of them, actually. I know Alan and Ellie weren't a couple, I know she was engaged to another guy and that Alan was a widower who liked kids but didn't have any. Doesn't change the fact that they WERE a couple in the first movie.
Albert and Armand from The Birdcage feel the closest I've seen to my relationship on screen. I think it's a good healthy and realistic film relationship even if it is dramatic and comedic. Would love to see a Birdcage episode as couples therapy or family therapy, or just to see Albert and Armand included in an episode like this.
There's something about that couple that just feels so honest. They both have their rough edges but they try to see the other's point of view. One of my favorite scenes in the film is the one where Robin Williams consoles Nathan Lane after he has the freakout over seeing Williams and his son's mother together. It's not a funny scene, but it's very real.
@@patrickt.6492 Exactly. And both Robin Williams and Nathan Lane play the roles so loving towards each other, their son, and their friends but yet still wrestling with their own insecurities. I agree 100% with this list but would nice to see some representation for less traditional couples. Maybe a part 2?
For 101 Dalmatians they actually didn't ink the cells like you would traditionally. The drawings were photocopied and printed directly onto the cells to be colored. This was a new tech being used as a cost saving measure. So I'm guessing those pencil lines weren't necessarily left on purpose, but were incidentally dark enough to transfer over during the photocopying process as it was their first time using the technique.
According to Walt Stanchfield's 'Drawn to Life' they were. To quote the book: "The term "touchup" originated on 101 Dalmations. In an attempt to retain the spontaneous qualities of the animation ruffs, the drawings were merely shorn of superfluous action and construction lines. Also the backgrounds had a Xeroxed line drawing placed over them, simulating the line drawings of the animation. It was a successful marriage of animation and background."
@@AkronymCLT The original commenter is correct, in that there was no inking done for the 101 Dalmations film. The cells were still painted after the Xerox machine had transferred the animation drawings from paper to cell, but there was no inking as that section of the department had been shut down after the box office losses of Sleeping Beauty.
@JessAnderson1988 Oh I actually wasn't aware of that detail! Looking it up, it seems that yes it was primarily a cost cutting measure - it just so happened that since the process copied the animator's original drawings, the animators felt it kept more of the life-like quality of the roughs than the prior method had
@@AkronymCLT yep! Walt personally preferred the older style of inking the animator's lines, but the animators loved the Xerox process because they were seeing their drawings on the screen as they had looked on paper. If you're ever interested in learning more about ink & paint and it's history through the decades at the studio, I highly recommend the Ink & Paint book by Mindy Johnson. It's a great read!
Elinor & Fergus convo is how amazing my husband is. It took us over 20 yrs of marriage to really start figuring it out, but learning to communicate was HUGE. And how he nudges me to open up when I start to shut down..... he is my hero :) and Evie and Rick are always my number 1 movie couple of ALL TIME.
"Life is beautiful" is my favorite film of all times hands down, but it breaks me down every time💔Just with that little scene I was already sobbing but thank you so much for including Guido and Dora🤧💖
To this day it confounds me to no end that there were (& probably still are) haters who condemned "A Beautiful Life" for being ... unrealistic. Like, dudes ... the whole reason why all the Jews in Europe didn't just evacuate en masse was because the idea that Nazi Germany would seriously consider slaughtering them all in a genocidal campaign was "unrealistic" -- the ones who weren't forcibly kept by armed Nazis in the ghettos, at least. Next thing they knew, Hitler had essentially sentenced them all to death, either by execution by gas chamber or slow starvation. The fact is, the movie more than adequately characterizes Guiddo as a very positive, affable clown who is desperately trying to protect his little son -- not just physically, but emotionally. Using his good-natured humor & his penchant for antics to shield his son from the horrific realities of the Holocaust is his way of playing to his strengths, even as we the audience see that the cold truth takes its toll on Guiddo's peace of mind. *He* knows that in all likelihood everyone imprisoned is going to die ... but his son doesn't need to know that.
One of my favorite movie marriages is Captain Von Trapp and Maria from The Sound of Music. They bond over the children and grow to genuinely love each other despite not being very good friends at the beginning. If you guys could do a video on The Sound of Music sometime, that would be great!
*~wipes tear~* the King Fergus impression slowly turning into Mrs. Doubtfire is the highlight of my day fr Y’all are amazing btw, when I put Cinema Therapy on in the living room my entire family crawls out of their dark holes and I get minorly jump scared every time they appear next to me 😂
You REALLY REALLY need to do Kubo and the Two Strings, and Paranorman. Two adolescent boys face psychological trauma and adversities. ❤ They are amazing movies
Evie and Rick are relationship goals and the Mummy movies are just anazing. I love how in the first film Rick never once tells Evie she's crazy or questions anything she's saying. No mansplaining, just acceptance that she knows what she's talking about.
I once again nominate Nick and Nora Charles from “The Thin Man” franchise. One of the earliest examples in cinema of showing a happy long term marriage as opposed to a fresh one or a dramatic unhealthy one.

Makes me tear up every time I watch it :,(
It's so heartbreaking because it's such a real burden of mothers or those who want to be one. We see the dangers of the world and then fear for our children and what they'll have to deal with when we bring them into it 😢
It be like that tho.
The genuine love and encouragement in “There, _that’s_ my queen!” is why Fergus is one of the best husbands in film.
It is also both funny and touching because he said that after eleanor gave him what is practically a eff off look 😂😂😂 he loves her to pieces that guy
The first five minutes of Brave is all about what a man should be demonstrated by Fergus. Great Character.
Too bad the movie kinda sucks
12:37 that "Mamma!" always makes me tear up. Imagine her, not knowing anything about her family and assuming her child is dead, in such a terrible and dehumanising place, and she hears her son calling "Mommy!" and speaking so cheerfully with his dad.
I'm not even a mother, but I can imagine what she must have felt
Straight up I started sobbing it gets me every time

I am also a mom, I’ve never seen this movie, and that “Mama!” was instant sob
It's sadly bittersweet that Adam and Barbara, despite being deceased, are far better parents to Lydia than her living ones. It's gently implied towards the beginning that they're infertile, but I love how close and loving their relationship is.
Possibly, we can infer that the Deetses found their way to being the parents Lydia deserved. They compromised with Adam and Barbara and shared the house and Lydia with them. It's really much more beautiful really! Lydia's dad and stepmother found their best selves after being scared to death by Beetleguise. 😍
Jesus I always wondered why they never had kids, I always thought they just died before they had a chance to make a family 🤯
“Life at best is bittersweet.” Jack ‘The King’ Kirby
I know right?
The energy they devote to their hobbies, and to renovating the house, suggests a sublimated parenting impulse.
@@christopherrobinson3857 it’s fkd up but it was a great comedic moment

The moment when they're role-playing the conversation between Elenor and their daughter and Fergus starts out acting like Merida and just smiles and nods at his wife like "go on, it's your turn" was just hilarious 😂
I'm so glad The Mummy Returns was featured, because the love between Rick and Evie was really displayed even greater seeing the lengths they would each go through to save each other and their son!!!! The way Imhotep realized Anuksunamun wouldn't do the same for him was actually heartbreaking.
Oh true, I actually felt bad for Impthep at the end of the mummy returns. Evie and Rick are marriage goals tho.
You can write a sermon or family seminar off that scene alone

It also helped that they were married in real life.
@@sadespain01 Which actors in The Mummy or The Mummy Returns were married in real life? Rachel Weisz has only been married to Daniel Craig, and they didn't get married until 2011, and Brendan had just married his ex Afton Smith in 1998.

@hannahmetzger4880 But when you look at it from the perspective of a movie or book or other narrative

The thing that makes me incredibly happy about Fergus and Eleanor's relationship (at least from what we see in the movie) is that NOT ONCE does he say to Eleanor "hey do you want me to talk to Merida?"
He recognized that while he can help workshop HOW Eleanor can relay her feelings to Merida (and that Merida would probably be a lot more open to receiving the criticism from Fergus) he CANT be the one to attempt to repair the relationship; that is something they have to do for themselves.
Watching a healthy yet not idealized relationship in movies always helps raise my spirits.
Same here
Yeah it won’t be perfect all of the time but being able to work through difficulties is really what matters
Precisely, they mutually support each other's strengths, and appreciate them, which is a sign of a solid foundation.

"Pongo reassures her by making a promise he can't keep" In Pongo's defense, even if Cruella seemed sketchy, who the hell could have predicted something like THAT?
Perdita, unfortunately 😢
The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve realized how important it is to show healthy relationships in media
That's why I'm not a fan of all the satirical humor.
@@wherefancytakesme very true
He's not aggressive, but he stoically doesn't like her. Her body language, voice, and how she treats Roger and how she acts towards anita. Her coat probably smells weirdly too dog for a canine nose and the smoke out of the pipe? stinks.
As an adult, I really appreciate how they still behave like dogs even without the voices 0:53 . It's all on the body language and how they react. The reality of the breed and dogs is right there.

As someone who grew up with the Mummy movies, seeing Rick and Evie on here warms my heart, especially since they truly are such a loving and healthy couple.
Especially if the bring Jonathon back.
They are the main reason I still watch the Mummy and The Mummy Returns.
I always admired their relationship since they were hella devoted and loyal to each other. They’re head over heels and it was enough for me 💖💖
The little smile thst Imhotep goves Rick and Evie before letting himself fall always gets me. They've been the thorn in his resurrected love story twice now, but he sees and appreciates their love. And for a brief moment, they're not his enemies anymore, they're what he aspired to be.
Yeah. He's pretty much wishing them a happy life together, knowing his life ends for good there, brokenhearted.
This TBH!!!
*Cue eye rolling here*
I always wished they would have pulled him out
I've heard a lot of complaints about Brave but I thought it was really good and Fergus and Elenor's relationship was really really sweet.
@@thefairychild that is completely fair

Especially back in the days when it was first written and animated! Disney mothers are usually dead, after all.
Yep and she was if I recall a red spotted Dalmations and mother to some of the puppies as well.
Same!!
Ohh god that kills me everytime!!
There's no greater gift than love." Beautiful stuff.
ohhhh yeah that gets me every time
The Dancing and the Dreaming. It gets me every time.
So much chemistry between the two leads. Love those movies.
I've always LOVED Perdita's voice, as well as Pongo's. When she says she wishes she wasn't having puppies out of fear, that emotion in her voice is VISCERAL.
RIGHT. It makes me cry at that part. EVERY TIME.
I also think it's worth noting that Pongo doesn't judge her for that thought, he comforts her and accepts her feelings. Pregnancy is hard and dark thoughts happen, having a non-judgmental partner can make all the difference.
It's my understanding that Cate Bauer, who voiced Perdita, is still living at 94. Wonderful voice acting by her and Rod Taylor as Pongo.
What made Fergus and Eleanor's relationship beautiful was how loving and respectful they were with the other even when they had opposing views.
He completely nailed that role.
Billy Connelly ATE and left no crumbs.
I didn’t know it was him until this comment and I shot through the roof ! I love him so much !
"Is she running still?" That's a question that's popped into my head and made me smile to myself at random for years and likely will until I die.
I've always liked how Imhotep looks at Evee and Rick, tearful but I think in that moment he understands and reconciles with himself that their love is the greater love.
@Pomshka I know, right? He was, like, "I, literally, put myself through hell and back TWICE for my girlfriend. I risked and gave up so much for her, but, when I needed HER the most, she chose to save her own skin."
I felt so bad for him in this moment. (9/13/2023)
I honestly want a prequel movie of Imhotep like they did with The Scorpion King.
@@CynderSpirit But who could take on the younger role? Hmm...my choice would probably be the guy, who played Tutankhamun in the SPIKE TV mini-series, "Tut". I always liked the relationship the parents had in SpyKids. It was funny but supportive at the same time - they had developed that attitude of us against the world (despite coming from different sides in espionage) and gradually extended it to include a whole circle of allies.
This was another B-grade series that surprised us
It's basically if Mr. and Mrs. Smith had a funny family-movie sequel, and we're here for it!
Yes!!! You ALMOST feel sorry for him.
@@adeletaylor6143 I do. Imhotep could have been a protagonist. Like Rick, they were both rule breakers. Imhotep, I'd argue, just goes a little too far, and has to deal with a lot more failure.

So true. I have an 11-year-old pure bred dally and the movements are spot on. They are such a silly breed 😂😍

That has nothing to do with the mummy the hell are you talking about
@@michaelmcdoesntexist1459 It’s likely they responded to the wrong comment
Wait, The Mummy Returns has bad reviews? But it's just as good as the first one.
The Aristocats was done in this style too, wasn't it?

The couple that kills together stays together
When I rewatched Mr. and Mrs. Smith as an adult I realized that I kind of loved how Pitt's character was the more emotional of the two and that Jolie was the one who struggled when it seems like usually the genders are portrayed the other way.
Maybe cause there was infidelity involved that it didn't make this list
And all that without them saying a single word! Not one!
Probably because they don’t have a lot of screen time.
I seem to remember learning that Sleeping Beauty was his favorite...
I came for this comment :)
Just to add some more trivia: Sleeping Beauty was the one that Disney considered THE masterpiece, but it actually brought the company to the verge of bankruptcy because re-drawing the lines of the motion-drawings with colorful ink on every singular frame meant a huge a staff.
I kinda want them to dedicate an entire episode to Brandon Fraser, honestly
Yes I would love a full episode on them!!
This one of the only movies that I like the first one but love the second one
@@alyssajones7369Same.
I LOVE that you put Rick and Evie not only on this list but at the top of the list! They are the best and I love seeing their juxtaposition with the selfishness of the evil couple.
Haven’t watched yet but the parents from Easy A deserve the top spot, hands down
We're working on an Easy A video!
One of my favorite lines was “got a B+ on my spelling test today!” “That's good honey, but everything has spell check nowadays.” 💀💀💀
I love that one scene when the son says something about adoption and the father is like "oh no I had no idea you were adopted!"
@@Tilariayeah he was like “WHO TOLD YOU?! Guys I thought we’d wait”
@@CinemaTherapyShowI feel like a spoiled daughter in the best way 😮💨
I LOVE Adam and Barbara.
It makes me tear up with happiness every time I see it 🥲
Okay, I need to see that one again. It's been way too long!
When my daughters said that Fergus and Elanor reminded them of my wife and I it was one of the biggest ego boosts of my life. Some of that may have been the dynamic between Fergus' goofy physical comedy and Elanor's responsible behavior but still, ego boost.
❤❤
Rick and Evie have perfect trust. Each trusts that the other can hold up their end of any battle or puzzle solving or adventuring that they do. And they know that they'll be there for each other. It's my favorite marriage relationship in any movie.
Stalactite has a C in it for Ceiling and Stalagmite has a G in it for Ground.
My mum always told me the way to tell it apart, is that a stalactite holds tight to the ceiling, while a stalagmite might reach the ceiling
I always associated it stalagMite and stalacTite like a visual aid
Yes about Stanley and Meryl. They really had such a wonderful relationship in that movie and great chemistry.
Yes they already put them in a similar vid from 5 months ago :) Mr. Tucci is great in almost anything though. That man is charismatic.
Felix is such a good partner
Yes, Felix and Peppa!
The Mummy and The Mummy Returns were my favorite movies Growing up now as an adult I love the relationship between Evie and Rick so much more.
I’m a weird person so I have many theories on healthy relationships. I’ve boiled them down to three really really broad pillars:
1. You enjoy each others company
2. You support each other
3. You keep the romance alive
I love it when I get to see those things in a relationship.
4. Build something up together. It could be raising a kid, it could be something else. But you have do work together towards a common achievement.
@MjolnirFeaw I agree, but I also see this falling into number 2 and/or 3
I know it's not a movie, or that they're not really married throughout a lot of the series, but Hiccup and Astrid from How To Train Your Dragon, had an amazing relationship! Even when they do eventually marry and have kids, they still love and support each other.
They are for sure one of my favorite couples! I love how the movies cover so much time so we get to see them grow together.
@@molly863 Relationship goals for sure!
Please please please do a full length episode on Rick and Evie's relationship. Especially Rick's healthy masculinity towards Evie. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I love this idea!!!
Same here!
you see her parents's relationship through the movie and that one seems healthy enough to me 😂
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL!!!
Yes!!
Thatd be such a good Christmas episode!
Even Scott and Neil relationship forms from tension to playful in a co parents
Oooh yes! We need the Santa Clause movies!
I love that movie so much! Best of Tim Burton's films by far.
Garbage.
For me it was also the disaster between Father and son after everything in the second film. You can have conflict without an extreme split.
One movie couple I’ve always loved is Ellie and Alan from Jurassic Park. I love how they work together, and how willing they are to protect each other when things are going wrong.
Not only that but the way they're prepared to allow the other to grow and develop - an underrated essential in marriages
Same. I liked the 3rd film for the adventure but I really hate that they broke Alan and Ellie up. At least Dominion put them back together finally.
Oh that's another great one!
Can I upvote this 5,000 times.
Thank you for mentioning them, I love that movie, too. Cinema Therapy, would you consider a breakdown of "The Birdcage"?
@@AkronymCLT I stand corrected. Very interesting to know they left some on purpose.
I'm so glad you guys covered Beetlejuice! I love Adam and Barbara, they are a very underrated couple
That was like some weird flashback for me. Had totally forgotten (or perhaps never really registered) that they were Alec and Gina
Elinor & Fergus convo is how amazing my husband is. It took us over 20 yrs of marriage to really start figuring it out, but learning to communicate was HUGE. And how he nudges me to open up when I start to shut down..... he is my hero :)
and Evie and Rick are always my number 1 movie couple of ALL TIME.
"Life is beautiful" is my favorite film of all times hands down, but it breaks me down every time💔Just with that little scene I was already sobbing but thank you so much for including Guido and Dora🤧💖
Same! Even that tiny part
Same. I'm still in denial about his death. Using comic rules no body no death 😭
Same ! I was sobbing.
I am so freaking happy that I paused this to read the editor’s note. Every sentence in it is pure gold 😂 I took a screenshot lmao
David (editor) would be proud 😂
Rick and Evie are absolutely one of the best movie couples of all time.
One of my favorite movie marriages is Captain Von Trapp and Maria from The Sound of Music. They bond over the children and grow to genuinely love each other despite not being very good friends at the beginning. If you guys could do a video on The Sound of Music sometime, that would be great!
YESSSS!
I third this!
ABSOLUTELY. Also love that the movie doesn't end with them getting married but shows them facing challenges as a married couple after that.
*~wipes tear~* the King Fergus impression slowly turning into Mrs. Doubtfire is the highlight of my day fr
Y’all are amazing btw, when I put Cinema Therapy on in the living room my entire family crawls out of their dark holes and I get minorly jump scared every time they appear next to me 😂
I love this haha! Nothing like being validated by your family lurking and coming around to whatever you’re watching😂
❤❤😂 Aww. I’m so glad you enjoy Cinema Therapy with your family.
You REALLY REALLY need to do Kubo and the Two Strings, and Paranorman. Two adolescent boys face psychological trauma and adversities. ❤ They are amazing movies
Kubo is one of my favorite animated films. I'd LOVE to see Cinema Therapy react to it!
I agree so so much!!!! Both of these!!!
Evie and Rick are relationship goals and the Mummy movies are just anazing.
I love how in the first film Rick never once tells Evie she's crazy or questions anything she's saying. No mansplaining, just acceptance that she knows what she's talking about.
"I am a Librarian!" and thus I fell in love with Evie. :) Book lovers unite. :) Rick accepts her for everything she is and nurtures it.
I mean, he doesn’t think she’s crazy because he’s seen what she’s talking about. She is the one who doesn’t believe in the supernatural lol
I once again nominate Nick and Nora Charles from “The Thin Man” franchise. One of the earliest examples in cinema of showing a happy long term marriage as opposed to a fresh one or a dramatic unhealthy one.
Yes!!
Ditto
I absolutely agree!!
