Rubie Dee the only Puerto Rican there - Colon 'edits'

- Clarification: I appreciate Rubie Dee coming into the comment section to state he joined the L-Brothers in *1976*. I asked him about the discrepancy in the interview which I linked which states he returned from PR in 1977. Also he referenced the death of Thurman Munson (died August 2, 1979) in relation to when he got down. I do not need a response from Rubie Dee to make this clarification - honestly I find it distasteful to challenge and quibble about a year or two discrepancy in the dates given by any elder telling their story. There will be a time when we are all long dead and gone when (should be) more objective research into the development of the culture can take place. However, these myth makers may be there as well doing what they do, same as they do now.
Also in the comments, Colon - mind you he blocked me from commenting on his channel - is seen doing exactly what I said he does in this video. That is, trying to shade and recontextualize Rubie Dee's words right there in Rubie's own post (unbelievable)
" all I’m saying is when he says what he is saying he is speaking about the mcs. He clearly said Puerto Ricans were present at the jams in the mid 70s bro. What are you not getting."
That is false. Rubie Dee is not only talking about the MCs, he is clearly talking about the composition of the crowds. That is very plain to understand in this interview and others. There were only a few to no Puerto Ricans involved prior to the mid to late 1970s at these functions. It is a Black Culture.
Also, Colon has threatened to report this video for a copyright violation - mind you this guy does precisely the same thing trying to debunk other peoples videos as well as use various peoples IP without permission in his own videos.
When I respond to his videos it is Fair Use, First Amendment and for educational purposes, not for profit. He should have some integrity, deal with the criticism as a scholar would, instead of trying to silence his detractors. Threatening to to report a copyright violation in such a frivolous and hypocritical way is dishonest - to say the least.
Another Colon video with chopped up contexts. He is trying to leave the impression that 'all' Black American early Hip-Hop parties were just a meter of location not date. Clearly Puerto Ricans came in numbers later in the 1970s. Check out this interview where the picture is even more clear as remembered by Rubie Dee one/the first PR emcee.

I'm 62 years old and i was around in New York Bronx/Brooklyn during the birth of Rap Music. First of all i witnessed the creation of it and it was initially a Black thing. Non-Black people saw it as jungle music, noise, N word garbage. It was only when it started picking up steam and getting attention did Hispanics join us in the early 80s. But truth be told, Rap music was around since the late 60s, but it wasn't wide spread yet. After rap music started growing it automatically gave birth to Hip Hop culture and then other races came in, not before. Anybody says otherwise is a liar. I was there to see it happening with my own eyes. Black people most definitely gave birth to Rap/Hip Hop.
Rubie Dee just told u he was rappin with the l brothers in 1976.thats about as early as it gets.
@@AlleKat That's a lie, it goes back to the 60s. You don't know what you're talking about. You can try all you want to rob the Blackman of his creation but it started with Black and it's going to end with Black. All these made up wanna bes after the fact means nothing. You people are always trying to feed off of Black accomplishments.
@@AlleKatthat’s not as early as it gets. He was a late comer to those crews. And as “the first PR” - it was already Black Culture.
Exactly we the ones started this ish no one else FBA
What jams, in The Bronx, you went to, that it was all "FBA"???
I need to hear this lie 🤥🤥🤥
Colon is in the comments trying to twist his words in real time, incredible!
I am so glad to see people are now starting to see what I have seen from colons first video!

@kooldjphase Don't hurt him too bad😂
Colon once tried to claim that Prince was a Puerto Rican in bsia's livestream. I called him out on his BS, and he said it was a typo and he meant to say Sammy Davis jr🤣
I remember seeing you on Red Supreme live stream. He was watching another Livestream where you and truthsaviour was correcting colon in the chat and the 2 tapdancing dum dums was getting mad at y'all instead of colon. I don't know who they are but they suck lol

Yall were hooked on Fania Records just like Charlie Chase said when asked why he was receiving backlash from Latinos for playing Funk records!
So, this was only happening in the Black community. They had to come to a Black community party to participate in the culture. If it was everywhere why are people trying to give a timeline on the connection with black people not their own Culture,
Were talking about NYC the bronx in the 1970s,the bronx is 60% latinos, what black community was there?A club on 1 block might be rockin hiphop while the club 2 blocks away is partying to salsa. In the summer the djs are outside playing hiphop for free in the playgrounds, thats nyc culture.Even people that hated hiphop had to hear it.
@AlleKat Here we go with that close proximity nonsense again. We don't come from the same culture, y'all assimilated into our shit. It's not NYC culture, it's Black American culture.
@AlleKat you crazy as hell 😳 the Bronx had more Black's they Puerto Rican in the 70's black communities, the Valley northeast Bronx ,Edenwal ,Bronx river, Classic point , Bronx Dale , Boston ceacore , freeman st Eastchester project ,Monroe houses, and many other spots. please your buggin out . You have the numbers now because all kinds of different types of people moved to the BX .Shit the Dominicans outnumber you now, and the new illegals are going to take your place .Now yall are moving down south following black people again all in the south. Stop tripping
@AlleKat In the 60s/early 70's The Bronx WAS NOT 60% Latinos!!!!!! The Bronx was predominantly Whites , then Blacks, with even less Hispanics (all of whom were not Puerto Ricans)! Most Puerto Ricans migrated to The South Bronx because it was the least affluent part of The Bronx! Bronxdale (where it started 1971) was on the other side! Bronxdale, Bronx River, Soundview areas, were predominantly Whites! And if you think Herc started it, he was on The West Side!
@@chinablack9790 The north bronx in the 1970s had alot of white people but the south bronx had more hispanics than black maybe thats why it took a year for it to become popular with the hispanicsnow in 2023 the south bronx is maybe 70% hispanic. The bronxdale disco crew did not start hiphop.anybody not from bronxdale will tell you that. Those dudes are ego trippin.

During the late 70's in NY, record shops, in Harlem "Hip Hop" music debut consisted of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five- EMCEES, (SUPERRAPPIN)
Kurtis Blow, (CHRISTMAS RAPPIN)
Spoony Gee-(SPOONIIE RAP)
The Fatback Band- King Tim III( PERSONALITY JOCK) Paulette and Tanya Winley, who I believe, were the daughters of Paul Winley,; the producer of the first "Disco Brakes" album and eventually the Sugar Hill Gang- (SUGARHILL RAP).
The First Hip Hop session I personally witnessed, was the Fearless Four Emcees, with DJ Krazy Eddie and they had an alliance with Spoonie G and the Treacherous 3 ft. Kool Moe Dee, who if I'm not mistaken, is African.
My first introduction to a Puerto Rican Emcee, was the "Devastating Tito", a Harlemite, with THE FEARLESS FOUR.
About a couple of months later, I heard the Romantic/Fantastic 5 Emcees, featuring 2; Whippa Whip & Ruby Dee.
There definitely weren't a lot, of well known Puerto Ricans on the DJ/Emcee rosters, which made the ones we saw and heard, just that more specific.
The contributions are there, however they became a part of something, not created something; as a group.
Thanks for the contributions. Respectfully.
Great work keep it up!!!😊😊😊
Great video brotha. Keep up the good work.
Ok people I am Rubie Dee and what you hear me say is what I actually said PERIOD end of story.
Question Rubie Dee?? When hip hop stared was it mostly black?
@@ColdNegro absolutely Latinos were not there as far as I know
Not in the beginning
Peace Rubie Dee, can you remember what year specifically you joined the L Brothers ?
@@ColdNegrohe is referring to the emcees and not the culture as a whole. He told me that and I have said the same thing. The element of the emcees were totally African American. All other elements were multicultural. Facts.
Colon is a liar!
American music forms: Spirituals, Blues, Ragtime, Jazz, Country, Gospel, Bluegrass, Folk, Rock n Roll, Doo-Wop, Soul, Funk, Disco, House and of course Rap and Hip Hop---all enjoy well documented Black American roots coupled with undeniable Black American influence---whether directly or indirectly.
Rap and Hip Hop's main ingredients are Funk, R&B, Spoken Word or Oratory and a bit-o-soul.
These forms are certainly NOT forms consistent with the musical heritage or the music tradition of latinos/hispanics/puerto ricans.
It remains absolutely insulting and disrespectful for folks like fat joe, dr. derrick colon, and numerous other spanish language media personalities and english language media personalities who are refusing to further scrutinize these outrageously false claims that "Black Americans and latinos created Rap and Hip Hop 50/50 half and half" which is the evidence-free nonsense spewed by fat Joe.
These fraudsters and imposters must NOT confuse---creators, originators, innovators and pioneers with mere presence.
When I watch videos about Africa, the comment section is filled with, advice telling the African countries,(the different cultures of, Kenyan, Ugandan , Ghanaian, Ethiopian etc... to unite as one. Can you imagine if the same advice was heeded, by the diaspora, in America? Whether African, Caribbean or South American? Imagine wherever you traveled, you were home, among your people, learning and exchanging culture? Hip Hop is one thing but division is the opposite of what Hip Hop achieved. Hip Hop united a lot of people. Personal beefs exists everyday everywhere. ... just imagine the respect and see it. Nothing is impossible... especially respect.
Wow...some of the dates seemed jacked up a little. All due respect, I remember being at rehearsals in Kenny Ken and n Theodore apt in 1199 Boston, Rd. Seem like lotta dudes then were starting out...brand spanking new...late 77 into 78!
Whose dates? Rubies? He is mainly talking about the L brothers. He already confirmed this with both master rob and whipper whip.
@DrDerrickColon , I will be with some of those cats this Thursday. I will once again fact check. Keep in mind, I was in rooms with some of these dudes, as they were rehearsing. Once again, some of these dates are off!!! In fact, I got some of them on speed dial. I can double check.
I always like hearing your point. You seem to be an honest cat
@dryinkdryink675 keeping it a hundred!! This culture has been too romanticized and glamorized. In the 80s u got peace, love, unity n having fun. In the 70s it was far from that. The struggle was real!!
