This was the best interview I’ve seen yet. Such pure Tolkien oriented questions filled my soul. The actors are all lovely, charming people and I am excited and hopeful for what we will see from them in the series. I hope this show will bring more people to the literature as the Peter Jackson films did for me.

From the trailers alone, it would appear that every canon character has been changed, often by removing traits and events from male characters and giving them to female characters (which completely changes who the characters are!), And there's absolutely no reason for it. Some of the changes are due to a squishing of time, which is slightly more understandable. Many new characters, and non canon history is added, mostly unnecessarily. Sprinkling in diversity, randomly across all races that have been well described, while ignoring the areas of tolkiens world that have diversity, makes it clear that the inclusion is political and not for story telling, which is distracting and disconnecting. Plenty of very interesting stories that could have been included here with diversity, but instead they were lazy.
Sauron would relish over the comment section of all of these videos. Organized hatred and bigotry which would feed him into existence. Glad the show will premiere in a few days and shut the haters' filthy mouths and send them back to their orc pits.

wow, this is actually the first time, that i can think positive of this new interpretation of tolkiens work. while i still think amazon is fully in control of the one rings power, and the adaption is just pure capitalist minded milking of a very popular and one of the best stories ever created - this video at least showed me, that many of the actors have actually been moved by tolkiens creation and made up their mind about some of the stories themes. thanks for sharing, and for asking such good questions during the interview.
Imagine being "moved by [Tolkien's] creation," reading the script, taking the job, and being part of destroying his work in contemporary adaptations. Imagine thinking your intentions matter(being moved) and thinking your intentions don't matter(all that matters is they were moved not where you were moved to). With canon female characters in events they weren't in, moved to positions they didn't hold, and with canon male characters it's events they should have been in and positions they've been stripped from. On top of that you have squished timelines (more understandable), and tons of new characters (far more than necessary). Massive changes to the history. The areas of tolkiens world that are almost entirely people who arn't white is ignored and instead diversity is sprinkled across every race at random, which is just lazy. Genuinely interesting stories could have been built that would have allowed a natural inclusion and diversity.

I can relate to the struggles of Faramir, but I do not need to look like him to relate. I can relate to Bilbo's sense of spontaneity and knack for adventure, yet I am not a Hobbit. I can relate to Elrond's despair and sorrow expressed in his grieving, yet I am no elf nor a loremaster. This show and its cast are disingenuous and frankly condescending. I love the books. I'll stick to those and hope this flops. (It is going to if you can see the ratios on all of their videos no matter the dialect)

You've nitpicked one line, that is totally vague, and open yo interpretation, and ignored the entire rest of the interview which clearly demonstrates how deeply these actors understand Tolkien's themes. @@anni.68 The problem with Galadriel is that she's not a warrior in the books. Her strength comes from her magic, her wisdom as well as her ring. The only recorded battle she takes part of is the First Kinslaying, which we don't know if she even drew a sword. The whole "without my sword, what am I to be" line doesn't fit with her character. Also, the trailers make it seem like she's the ONLY one in all of Middle-earth who is suspicious of Sauron's presence, which we know isn't true. Elrond, by this point in the Second Age, should be one of the greatest loremasters in Middle-earth. He is one the wisest Elves in all Middle-earth, arguably wiser than most of the Elves that came from Valinor which includes Galadriel. To say he wouldn't be as suspicious of Sauron as Galadriel, if not more, doesn't hold true to how Elrond is in Tolkien's writing. Harfoots are not the ancestors of Hobbits. They ARE Hobbits. Specifically, they are one of the three breeds of Hobbits, the others being the Fallohides and Stoors. As for Hobbits being in the Second Age, it's jarring because Tolkien never mentions them in the First/Second Age because they had no significant impact in those time periods. The existence of Hobbits was unlikely to be known to the other races of Middle-earth until the Third Age. Did Hobbits exist in the Second Age? Sure, but it feels like Amazon is shoehorning them into their show because...I guess they like Hobbits?

You ask those who have issue with the ROP to justify their opinion, yet I have not seen one justification on your part of how it is accurate beyond stating you’ve read his works. Well, you justify the accuracy, and justify why someone’s comment was ‘stupid’.
@@anni.68 The problem with Galadriel is that she's not a warrior in the books. Her strength comes from her magic, her wisdom as well as her ring. The only recorded battle she takes part of is the First Kinslaying, which we don't know if she even drew a sword. The whole "without my sword, what am I to be" line doesn't fit with her character. Also, the trailers make it seem like she's the ONLY one in all of Middle-earth who is suspicious of Sauron's presence, which we know isn't true.
Elrond, by this point in the Second Age, should be one of the greatest loremasters in Middle-earth. He is one the wisest Elves in all Middle-earth, arguably wiser than most of the Elves that came from Valinor which includes Galadriel. To say he wouldn't be as suspicious of Sauron as Galadriel, if not more, doesn't hold true to how Elrond is in Tolkien's writing.
Harfoots are not the ancestors of Hobbits. They ARE Hobbits. Specifically, they are one of the three breeds of Hobbits, the others being the Fallohides and Stoors. As for Hobbits being in the Second Age, it's jarring because Tolkien never mentions them in the First/Second Age because they had no significant impact in those time periods. The existence of Hobbits was unlikely to be known to the other races of Middle-earth until the Third Age. Did Hobbits exist in the Second Age? Sure, but it feels like Amazon is shoehorning them into their show because...I guess they like Hobbits?
