The actors are all lovely, charming people and I am excited and hopeful for what we will see from them in the series. I hope this show will bring more people to the literature as the Peter Jackson films did for me.

@@berondi from what we've seen so far, pretty much everything. From the trailers alone, it would appear that every canon character has been changed, often by removing traits and events from male characters and giving them to female characters (which completely changes who the characters are!), And there's absolutely no reason for it. Some of the changes are due to a squishing of time, which is slightly more understandable. Many new characters, and non canon history is added, mostly unnecessarily. Sprinkling in diversity, randomly across all races that have been well described, while ignoring the areas of tolkiens world that have diversity, makes it clear that the inclusion is political and not for story telling, which is distracting and disconnecting. Plenty of very interesting stories that could have been included here with diversity, but instead they were lazy.

It began with the forging of the great films. Threads were given by Tolkien, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Three movies were granted to Jackson, great miner, craftsman, and shaper of the mountain of lore. And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men, who above all else, desired quality. But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged in secret a master flop. And into this show he poured his money, his greed and his will to dominate all film. One show to ruin them all.
For into darkness fell Tolkien's star, in Amazon, where no bathrooms are.

Then imagine being ready to swallow that shit.

@@FunnyDougy well, dont get me wrong, its still a massive shitshow and a pitty too. its happening all the time nowadays. mega companies take other peoples creative work and butcher it, adding themes or reforming characters so that they can be sold better to the market. its frustrating and enraging to me.
i am trying to not let this darken my mood though. i try to boykott amazon and other companies as much as possible. it is what it is. ive expected this from the very first moment i heard that amazon puts their filthy claws on the lord of the rings.
still, in this specific interview i ve heard several comments and thoughts about themes and ideas of tolkien that i resonate with. and some of them sounded quite genuine. i am glad though that the dwarfen bitch didnt get to open her mouth. im so fed up with that woman and what she had to say in former interviews.
anyway, take it easy. and dont forget - the story itself cant be corrupted, it will always stay pure and wonderful, no matter what people are trying to do with it.
ps: and also keep in mind - theres always someone that allows this / sells the content to these companies. those are to be critisized at least as much as the media

With canon female characters in events they weren't in, moved to positions they didn't hold, and with canon male characters it's events they should have been in and positions they've been stripped from. On top of that you have squished timelines (more understandable), and tons of new characters (far more than necessary). Massive changes to the history. The areas of tolkiens world that are almost entirely people who arn't white is ignored and instead diversity is sprinkled across every race at random, which is just lazy. He took it as an heirloom of his house, the ring, as representative of what it has overcome. They are butchering these characters! He also says that his father, Elendil, wanted him to become a sea captain. Are we going to focus on the actual themes at all? We are not going to get a charge of the rohirrim moment as we did in The Return of The King if the show manipulates the themes. It is NOT universal as in free to manipulate, it is universal in the fact that his writings, characters and ability to incorporate mythos are easily relatable to us as is. I can relate to the struggles of Faramir, but I do not need to look like him to relate. I can relate to Bilbo's sense of spontaneity and knack for adventure, yet I am not a Hobbit. I can relate to Elrond's despair and sorrow expressed in his grieving, yet I am no elf nor a loremaster. This show and its cast are disingenuous and frankly condescending. I love the books. @@anni.68 Numenor, Miriel, Galadriel, Elrond, the harfoots etc. please tell me how what we’ve been shown or told by show runners is absolutely accurate or reflective of what Tolkien did write? You ask those who have issue with the ROP to justify their opinion, yet I have not seen one justification on your part of how it is accurate beyond stating you’ve read his works. Well, you justify the accuracy, and justify why someone’s comment was ‘stupid’.

@@anni.68 The problem with Galadriel is that she's not a warrior in the books. Her strength comes from her magic, her wisdom as well as her ring. The only recorded battle she takes part of is the First Kinslaying, which we don't know if she even drew a sword. The whole "without my sword, what am I to be" line doesn't fit with her character. Also, the trailers make it seem like she's the ONLY one in all of Middle-earth who is suspicious of Sauron's presence, which we know isn't true.
Elrond, by this point in the Second Age, should be one of the greatest loremasters in Middle-earth. He is one the wisest Elves in all Middle-earth, arguably wiser than most of the Elves that came from Valinor which includes Galadriel. To say he wouldn't be as suspicious of Sauron as Galadriel, if not more, doesn't hold true to how Elrond is in Tolkien's writing.
Harfoots are not the ancestors of Hobbits. They ARE Hobbits. Specifically, they are one of the three breeds of Hobbits, the others being the Fallohides and Stoors. As for Hobbits being in the Second Age, it's jarring because Tolkien never mentions them in the First/Second Age because they had no significant impact in those time periods. The existence of Hobbits was unlikely to be known to the other races of Middle-earth until the Third Age. Did Hobbits exist in the Second Age? Sure, but it feels like Amazon is shoehorning them into their show because...I guess they like Hobbits?
