I started consistently using lactic acid 10% along with my tretinoin a few years ago twice a week and I can wholeheartedly agree with the benefits. At 47 my skin looks better than at 37 and I moisturize like it is my job! I also do a 10% ascorbic acid in the am with my sunscreen and I have always been a fan of hats, sunscreen and sun avoidance! Aging is a privilege, looking great while doing so is just the icing!

Lactic acid has been a huge factor in getting rid of persistent irritation under my breasts and in my armpits. LA applied 3x a week to both areas has really been a game changer! I use glycolic on my face, alternated with the extremely gentle PHA, and love the results, but will switch back to LA for my face if I get sensitive to 7% glycolic (inkey list & the ordinary both list %s so u know what you're using).

for anybody reading this thinking to use lactic acid and tret in the same routine, please make sure your skin is A: not dealing with a damaged skin barrier, B: mature, meaning skin cell turnover is slower and might require the use of both an exfoliant and tret everyday to see results, and C: make sure you, yourself have been using tret for over 2 years at least. only then slowly encorporate the two together, and by slowly i mean SLOWLY,

Through years of watching you I found out I am doing everything I can to keep skin healthy. My routine is simple. Day- cleans ,1 serum, faded cream on my melasma, 1 moisturizer, spf 50++++ sunscreen.
Night double cleans , because I wear makeup, serum, retin A .05, moisturizer and 8 hours of sleep. I am 57. I look like I’m in my early 40’s. The ladies I work with that are my age all look way older than me. One lady who is 37 asked me what I do to stay so young looking. I told her my routine. Her acne is gone and she wears way less makeup now. I told her spend money on skin care , and doesn’t have to be a lot, and you won’t need so much makeup. Thank you Dr Dray!!!!!!

But I started using Sunday Riley’s A+, Luna retinoids and Good Genes exfoliant within the last year. In my honest opinion, Roc is the BEST drugstore skincare brand and so much better than many products that are sold for triple the price. Their retinol formulas are very efficacious and the price is on point. Their Maximum Hydration Retinol Cream (fragrance free version) is amazing and their hyaluronic acid capsules are SO good. In Europe it's a pharmacy brand and I believe it's one of the most underrated brands here in the US.

I have customers/clients tell me quite often that their dermatologists tell them none of these marketed ingredients/products do anymore for your skin (other than perhaps GA or retinol for exfoliating and SA or BP for acne) than just a basic moisturizer. And a lot hardly ever recommend any otc retinols. Of course their derms tell them spf is #1. And that most of us are over exfoliating. I'd love to see a comparison between these marketed trendy products and just a plain basic moisturizer.

Dr Dray, just a thank you note. Its been about a year since i found you. Ive quit watching most other skincare channels due to poor research/science knowledge, and really dont feel the need to look at new products often. Thanks to you, i have a frugal routine that i love and makes me feel great, and I'm no longer chasing products and tools to fix my ugly aged face...i dont love my looks but i do now feel much more kindly toward my face!
I do have a few expensive moisturizing and cleansing products from ipsy that i enjoy using, but it feels so reassuring to know that all my "hero" products are extremely reasonable & even if i need to cut back, my core routine is very economical.
The Gold Bond really made the biggest difference, but I'm also currently very excited about mineral oil for eye makeup removal, a wonderful dollar tree spf, and very frugal versions of niacinamide serum, alpha arbutin, glycolic acid, and squalane oil. And i could narrow it down even more and be fine lol! It was almost impossible trying to get this info on my own, and actually find the right frugal products for me, so i thank you very much! The drugstore price point has a lot of junk and it is very hard to find the best quality products on a strict budget.

I'm 5 months from official menopause at 48, but my tzone is still oily and highly acne prone. Cheeks enjoy a good moisturizer, like the Pearlessence Works Like Magic, which has squalane, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, vitamin c, and ceramides. It's plumping, softening, smoothing and brightening. Great all around moisture. And the Nava MD tretinoin is petroleum based, helping prevent the flaking and peeling of some other Rx tretinoin creams.

If you're not seeing a derm, start now. I went for a full body check a few years ago and it saved my life. I just finished round 5 with melanoma and now cancer free!

I have been using the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum for my oily skin but it is a little drying. I have oily skin and was hesitant to try the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Regenerating Cream and I am inlove with this product. It's not greasy at all and has not made my face break out like alot of other creams. It has smoothed out my skin and also has help diminish the appearance of sebaceous hyperplasia bumps on my forehead. I love it as a moisturizer under makeup.

I have been using Neovadiol serum and cream (for dry skin) 3 months now. I really REALLY like the serum, I like that it has a whole bunch of stuff in it, that it needs to be shaken like a true and honest rich cocktail that it is. Skin is blissful after applying it. it's mercy in a bottle. The cream I'm not as happy with, my skin is shiny after using it, i don't know why. I have very very dry skin but the shine persists at least as long as it takes me to cover it with SPF. Maybe shine resolves on it's own after a while, I just never waited with SPF long enough to see it go away.

Look into the Calm line in Paula's Choice skin care. Paula's Choice products are very well formulated, and I've been able to use many of the actives on my Rosacea prone skin. I can even use the very low % retinol creams with no issue. Resist Intensive Repair Cream or Resist Barrier Cream with retinol, both at only 0.1% retinol.
I also use the Calm 1% BHA and the 10% Azelaic Acid Booster, all on alternating nights.

Start with anything she reviewed in this video. Also, look for moisturizers that contain glycolic acid. It’s really good for skin cell turnover and helps rejuvenate the skin. Also, Gold Bond products might be a good place to start. The Vanicream Vitamin C serum is super gentle and helps brighten skin
