  • I took my supercharged 1968 Honda cl175 Land Speed bike to the drag strip to get some data logs, and ended up hurting it. We end up swapping the clutch for a performance clutch, and talk about the next steps before we take it to our first land speed event.

I just subscribed. A suggestion to consider with concern to intake and cylinder head temperatures. If your ECU can handle it, have a second set of injectors the squirt water on the exhaust stroke to cool both the heads and valves. Since the water atomizes quickly, does not foul the charge. Suggest 90% water and 10% 2 stroke oil to keep the pumps and injectors happy. Good luck

He's not running direct injection, so how's he supposed to get that in there w/ the intake valves shut?

@@nunyabidniz2868 Charge cooling works better with indirect injection, more time in the air stream to cool the air and is effective with cooling the valves when the water comes out of suspension and contacts the backside of the valve. Other than some plumbing to mess with, not aware of any downsides and a lot of benefits.

Man, my heart sank when I read the title! Glad it was just the clutch. Remember, to finish first, you must first finish. Not sure if there is a record in your class, but the goal is to set a mark then go harder. Don't want to blow it up on the first pass and not get an official mark!

Definitely. There is no record for our class, so I'm going to make a real easy hit at first just to get a number 👍

I smoked the clutch in my 81' KZ1000 on a rainy day. Was hammering around town, fish tailing and burning water off my back tire. You dont have to clutch dump or anything for this so no abuse accept hard acceleration. I hit it going up an incline and she revved up, thought i was spinning until i realized the rear was still stuck to the road lol. Slipped like hell all the way back home. Almost did it again on a different KZ, same year and everything. When you think about it, that little basket is really getting the sht kicked out of it on any bike. Your bike is badass, ill keep checking back

Great work. I really appreciate what you're doing. You've inspired me to get a mini bike and build a little monster. I've only spent time and not much money but yet, an extra 3hp later, I realize I haven't had as much fun since I was a kid. Thanks.

These motors will live long lives at 50hp the trans not so much but clutchless shifts nice and easy and you can get 60 through the box before the input bearing gets pissed. You can use a crf230 basket and primary gear to make the clutch have 20% less load aswell as make you gears a bit wider and the china versions have a 6spring basket that will fit your springs plus two. Our compound bike is xr200 based but i have a few of these and rebel 250 motors around that iv stole stuff from for the compound bike in the early days. Its not all the same but its close enough with a little love most of it works well. Fyi our stock parts combo with a custom destroked crank pin took 60hp using basically the same rod as your motor before it let go at the bearing you have two so your probably not ever gonna worry about the rotating assembly but ring gap on the other hand id go pretty big and maybe add a piston squirter to keep things a bit cooler. You can also put a bigger oil pump really easily which helps with friction at 12-14k rpm which from what i remember i had a race bike as a kid that used one and that was about where the party was at its best and i know motors didnt live until we added a bigger oil pump and cooler. Not a power thing just a they like to rev but cant feed the head great. Awesome work i really appreciate the effort thats gone into it lol i understand all too well.

Something cool to test/try for intake air temp would be a co2 or no2 sprayer similar to what's used on intercoolers in the auto scene. I've seen them used on charge pipes also when lacking an intercooler, people wrap the charge pipe using copper tubing that spirals around or just goes along parallel to the charge pipe with tiny "jets" drilled to spray it. Not sure it'd be any more or less cost effective long term but interesting to see the IAT differences with it lol.

I believe you can have custom plates made out of a better material and id imagine you can find stiffer springs for another honda model. Then you're issue will move to the next weakest link lol. Good luck man love the content as always.

I'm surprised you even use the clutch.
    *Have you tried clutch-less upshifts?*
I only ever use my clutch to get off the line and downshifts. Never upshifts.
    Love the build, Cheers.

      why the clutching?
taking off, first to second shift, stopping, and the rest of the time i dont use it... up or down.

I used to use a kill button instead of the clutch after the launch. Just leave the throttle open, jab the clutch and the shifter.

This is so cool. I’ve been dreaming of the cb160 since 2010.
I was curious, do you feel like the bike is still a good daily rider or is it now just a track bike?
The amount of work you’ve done is incredible and it just looks BA. I want to see a 1960s less than 200cc motorcycle kill an sti in a race!

Late to the party; just stumbled on this vid. You mentioned that you refreshed the engine: did you remember to adjust the ring gap (larger) to allow for the greater heat from forced induction? Something that needs to be considered by anyone looking to replicate your efforts...
