I really like Slane for a budget Irish. After letting it sit out for a while I get a buttery burnt toast on the nose. And on the palate I get buttery vanilla and apples. I like this much better than other budget irish blends such as jameson or tullamore dew.
Excellent review, Bill. You did a great job of representing this very good budget whisky. I did a tour of the Slane Distillery and it is going to be producing some excellent Irish pot still once they release their own distillate. The distillery is a beautiful thing-- they had to remove the timber framed roof off the buildings to drop in the stills. The tour guide was EXCELLENT and I asked a lot of questions. After being pressed he did clarify that the new make is matured in 3 different casks and then blended. It is not transferred from cask to cask during maturation. For the money this is good.. I'm really looking forward to their releases.
I actually found it for equivalent of 15 dollars!
It's almost perfect for that price!
It's not red breast or blue spot but it's not even half the price!
Perfect for a party with more then 10-15 whiskey drinkers!
i was drinking this with you n your spot on vanilla and sherry..nose...you can taste the vanilla going down toasted oak with a fruity ending...its pretty good for the price...the caramel flavor is just a lil tad much...but it good for sure...i paid 15 for it Jameson's doubles the price....but im sure smart bars poor this in their Jamieson bottles
Glad you're enjoying it along with the video. Thats my favorite!
Great walk through. Looks, OK, but I'm not hunting it down. Thanks for sharing!
Never tried this one. In the $25 range I normally get The Sexton (which I really enjoy). Thanks for the review. I will give Shane a try.
Get the Slane special edition for $10 more. It is so much better. Always have one open and a couple back ups. Great inexpensive Irish
I'll keep an eye out. Thanks for the tip!
Really like this whiskey. Punches above its weight.
Thanks for the good video again Bill. Cheers! :)
Correction- Beam Suntory cut them off when they bought Cooley. Either Slane reached out for help or Brown-Foreman offered to help by buying them.. and that gave them the connections to get barrels they need (my understanding from another distillery). Definitely a good buy for me in its current price range.. hoping inflation doesn't hit it too hard in the future.
Yea, that would kill this. I wouldn't bother at $10 more
So far for me - this has been the most prime example of not judging by a neck pour. What a couple days open and few drams down did for this bottle was pretty dramatic. It's good stuff. Not your typical Irish but still Irish.
I discovered it a couple years ago. Very good juice!
Terrific review and analysis Bill!! Looking forward to a new in depth video/livestream! They are treats!! Hope everything is terrific and hope you and your family are super well! Happy summer!! 🙂
Thanks Christine! I'm having a great summer! Hope you are too
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary I am! 2 kids are home from university in Toronto and Montreal (very proud of them!! - all in mom here!!) and having my 3 kiddos together is bliss! My husband and I and the kids are off soon for a vacation with loads of fun and down time!! I need it! Working way too hard. I am loving some delicious scotch expressions this summer - hope you are too!! I am thrilled that you are enjoying your summer - you and your family!! 🙂
@christinecamley congrats on raising two kids who are in great schools! I hope you enjoy your vacation. Treat yourself to something awesome and let me know what you pick. Consider it a homework assignment!
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Thanks so much Bill - didn't mention my baby - who just graduated from high school and she is off to the U of Toronto and is excited as her sister is there too!! My oldest is at McGill! Momma of 3 here - fabulous kids!!! I will take this homework seriously Bill!! My husband Joel just added in that he will be on the lookout for a few lovely cigars to pair with scotch - he only has a few during a year - no more than that! We are kind of health nuts!! He enjoys the pairing. Do you ever paid a cigar with scotch? Let me know what you are drinking this summer!! Little Book Chapter 8 Bourbon is lovely and delicious - nice rye mint, herbal grassy quality for a Bourbon and I do love that!! Cheers Bill!! 🙂
@christinecamley I have had a few cigars. Not really my thing, which works out as I have enough vices!
This summer I'm actually focusing on some craft distilleries. Thinking I may do a short series on small distilleries soon as it was something I always enjoyed doing.
Good luck to your husband. You pick the Scotch, he picks the cigar!
Nice review mate. Never seen this one.
Out of all of your reviews this was the most entertaining by far! Cheers
Thats great to hear! Can I ask what made this one stand out to you? Always good to get feedback!
So I've seen this bottle and been wanting to try it. I don't care much for blended whiskey though.
On a side note I found a liking for makers mark 46. Is there any other whiskey bourbon you think I should try after this one.
