Enjoy your video. I am a Thai leaving in the US for 37 years now (since 17). I recently went to visit family in Thailand and I think I am moving back within 3 years.
Similar, I left for the US at 5. Been working in the UK for 20+ years. Try to visit home every few years but sometimes it turns to 5-8 years between visits. Hope your plan works out 💪

I'm nearly 40, and I recently realized that I don't want this life. I don't want a big house, I don't want a fancy car or lots of expensive jewelry or clothes. I just want to live a simple life but even living a simple life here means I have to spend half of my life working just to keep my head above water and I don't want to spend my whole life working all the time. I just want to spend time with people, I want to learn to surf, and I want to go diving and visit the beach or waterfalls at the weekends. I've given myself two years to save, and then I'm going to spend 3 months in 4 different countries around South East Asia to see what it's like and decide where I would want to live. Interesting thread. I am in a similar position; family aging in the UK but new life and family beckoning in Thailand, and its been like this for me for 30 years. When you go back to the UK its usually raining/cold/damp, expensive, poor service, bad food and not really much fun, but family are there; on the other hand I have wife and family in Thailand, where things are much happier and positive, weather is much better, life is more enjoyable and much cheaper. Thank you for sharing! I remember walking through Bangkok in December, in shorts and a t-shirt, and realising: I made the right decision. Thank you so much for watching :)
Really great video George. Well put together and you're exactly right there are downsides too. A friend of mine is involved in a Thai temple retreat in Kalasin. Once I've received more details I'll forward them to you. Keep up the excellent work. 🇹🇭🌞
Hi George I've been speaking with my friend Tookta at the meditation centre in Kalasin. She's quite happy for me to give you her details, but only for your reference. Have you an email or LINE number I could send them through on please? Many thanks.
Great video George. A very balanced reflection on your decision which as someone making the same decision now is really helpful to hear. Thank you for sharing🤜🤛
The weather in this country is definitely not warm brother it's annoyingly hot all year around hahaha, but I appreciate that you like it and make it sounds nice.
You just revealed the ultimate pull-up spot in Benjakiti ;) Love this parc, there's quite a bunch of water monitor around, especially during raining season. Quite cool to encounter as a westerner.
Hahahah, such a good park! I see so many people working out there...I'd love to do it, it's just sooo humid! 😅 But I should just man up and get it done. I love seeing the water monitors!! Feels so otherworldly to me
Well done, George! You’ve discovered some of the most important aspects of living in Thailand, despite living here only a few years. You’ve also encapsulated the miserable life in the UK (which has become an authoritarian, police/judicial/bureaucratic state). There are some important details that you’ve overlooked, however. I help people to settle or retire in Thailand and avoid the real dangers (some of which may be not necessarily inevitable, of course). But perhaps most important is to learn Thai. This also isn’t necessary, but many people who become disillusioned with Thailand (and/or their Thai partners) is often because they live in a kind of isolating expat bubble. And to learn Thai effectively, you must start with getting literate - otherwise you are unlikely to be understood when you speak, and you will give up in frustration after a year or so (which then feeds into a downward spiral). It’s more important than most people realize, which is why I bang on about it so! 😂
Thanks so much for watching. And I appreciate you sharing your experience and perspective 🙏 It's definitely something I am working on (but need to try harder with...). Thanks again for watching!
Thai language can be spoken like Yoda and we can understand it. it's just that foreigners tend to have absent in some tone which can be confusing, but Thai language is context based, so if we know the context it's so easy to understand you. We don't really expect foreigners to speak Thai anyway while we do appreciate it, but there's nothing wrong walking with translators. so... don't be discourage about Thai language just enjoy your stay.
Im so glad your video and channel popped up on my feed today, surfing your videos now! =) May i ask whats your Digital Nomad work in Thailand? I see u got 44 videos uploaded? did it finally break though u think? or is it not youtube? Whats your goal for income way living over there? Love your videoes dude, keep up the good work!
Eyyy thanks for checking them man!!! Haha, with RUclips I am still about $200-$300 in the hole every month, so certainly haven't broken through yet! But, I am putting my best foot forward. I have freelance marketing clients where I do thinks from website conversion to ads management to copywriting to community management (but I don't get into it too much on this channel as I don't think people are square pegs to be squeezed into round holes). Hope you enjoy the videos man!!
Thanks so much! Oooo interesting, good idea!! (I'd say contact some local agents, negotiate longer term deals, and leverage upfront payments to reduce costs ;) )
Im Thai and thanks for love my country however don't specific too much about Thailand don't forget to trip around Thailand like Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia etc. maybe you will like them more than Thailand and it would be better to find another place for more comfortable s'th btw i just want to say find any place that fit to your life and i hope you will fine❤ (sorry for my suck grammar 😅)
Friend, thank you very much for your video. I'm thinking about moving to Thailand, and your video has helped me a lot because I love meditation retreats. Could you recommend any? Which ones have you been to? Thanks :)
Heyyy, you are more than welcome :) So I defo recommend "star mountain" in "Phang Nga". The best view in the world from that retreat (there's a vid about it somewhere on my channel). I hope you like it!
@@trippinwitgeorge yes big difference. Not only that but places all over the country really cooler. Da Katie, dak nomg in central. Son la, sapa cold in north. And a few plesent places in the middle. Just avoid hcm, ha noi or south of hcm. Though a few nice but hot cities south.
I'm from India and I'm definitely going to move to Thailand in the future. Still, before doing that I'll 100% make sure that my parents are going to live a pretty comfortable life and not gonna have any issues cuz otherwise, I'll not be able to live peacefully which is obviously not something that I want...So, yeah it's gonna take some time to get there but it's definitely gonna worth it.
You've got this! Well done on prioritising that which is important to you. I agree, if I didn't care for those I love, my experience would constantly be tainted by my feelings of guilt. You can do it.
What you fail to address in your video is that you can't just move and live in Thailand - you need to have the necessary long-term visa to stay in the country. Thailand immigration does not appreciate 'tourists' doing back-to-back visa runs. If you stay long-term, then you need a long-term visa, and for someone under 50 years old, that is not always easy or cheap.
What about the future, ? young people on average change their jobs 3,4,5, times before they settle down. What happened when your money or your work drys up ? What’s your plans for when you reach 60+ ?
Sure, moving to Thailand is not an excuse for not contributing to your pension, investing in your index funds, and ensuring you have a reliable, stable and long-term income source :)
I think that is often the way... I think, often, we get desensitised to our homes, and can begin to lose the inherent beauty, and we can begin to take it for granted. Always thinking "that place over there is where I'll be happy"
Yea I can't agree more that the weather is the thing that kills me most about living here, grey and raining most of the year it's just not good for you
This applies to the US ... Its literally $500 just to open your own door over here. im sick of it. And our government is trying to end our lives. Im moving to Vietnam in a couple months. Im so ready!
appreciate you. you are the inspo. my next video is heavily influenced by Ecom Soup... the music colour grading...the lot. (no probs if you don't catch it of cooourse) P.S I hope you don't mind me using your thumbnail style 😅 P.P.S Hoping the soup isn't out of stock at 100.
Yup.. As a born and raised East Londoner who's spent the last 20yrs working in dead end 9-5ish jobs from retail to call centre to warehouse, and just literally yesterday quitting my recent job of 3yrs, I'm completely signed out of this dreary overpriced 1st world country but 3rd world living excuse of a country now. It's not even just the weather, it's the culture of London today: drinking culture at dozens of random new bars, gentrification, no community, no life outside of work. As someone with no major university skills but skilled in a few fields, I just want the Ultimate Secret to becoming a digital nomad. I wouldn't know where to start as even though I completed Business Studies at 18 with distinction, I have little interest in starting one 😅 I've always been the creative type: music, fanfiction stories, attempting to write a novel series, drawing/painting, making RUclips videos. It's not making the jump from London to Thailand/Vietnam or Cambodia (my 3 choices) that's holding me back.. It's "what do I do now that I'm here to help fund my life?!?".. I just dunno where to begin. Anyone else feel similar?
yoyo - good luck on the next phase of your journey! I am so with you...hence why I left. Little to do but go to pubs, long-as* dreary winters, and cost of living outpacing increase in wages. Feels like a sinking ship. My advice: Find 3-5 solid RUclipsrs who inspire you in the entrepreneur/nomad space and learn from them. Fastest path is B2B/B2-SME service providing, but need to find what is best for you. I found a great channel called "Ecom Soup" recently I hgihly recommend. I've also got a newsletter (link...somewhere) where I share some stuff that might help. Good luck...YOU GOT THIS!!!
I'm sorry, I am having a tough time paying attention when the background music overshadows your voice. The background music is too loud. honestly you shouldn't have put on loud background music.
I don't know if it's fair to talk about missing your family. Because as you grow, you potentially take jobs that take you away. I am an American that had been living in Denver, Colorado for 10 years, parents in Nashville, Tennessee. We only saw each other for 7-14 days a year. I have been living in Europe for 5 years not seen them since I left. But we talk at least once a week. Point is I talk to my High School friends, (I am 49) they live in the same 50k country city and they go 6-8 months without talking. People grow up, jobs their own family with kids, etc so you could miss them from other side of world or even in the same town.
...this is a very valid point indeed. Thank you for sharing! I suppose, my remedy, and a good thing - is that this distance, when living abroad, is brought to the front of mind, so when I am back I can make a more conscious effort to bridge the disconnect I feel when I am away :)
Honestly - for me - not an issue at all. I know people say long term it is, but truthfully, for me - it hasn't been an issue to a point where I couldn't get myself out of a sticky situation :)
Dude. If you want to stay there in the long term. Pick up some Thai language courses on the side please mate. Also you dont Need to pay 500$ for a condo mate😅. Chaing mai got good meditation retreat.Your family SHOULD pay YOU a visit out in the Kingdom of Thailand please. Thanks for sharing
I moved for many years from Germany to Switzerland Zurich city. Every year I go on vacation mostly 1 month to South East Asia. SEA is amazing for holiday. Yes, its nice and you could do a lot of things, even fly between the countries. The price for food, accomodation, transporation, for sex and so on are cheap, because there is a big price range to choose. And last but not least: The asia girls/women like tourists, easpecially from western countries. That is one of the main reason, why especially western men are so fascinated from South East Asia😁But when I come back from holiday to Zurich, I say each time: Zurich, Switzerland is much more worth then BKK or any other city in Sout East Asia:-)
you're making Thailand more beautiful ...... and in the Lanna (North )/ Isaan (NE) of Thailand (tropical rainforest peaceful places)might full fill something you waiting for. . ยินดีต้อนรับ สู่บ้านหลังที่ 2 ครับ เน้อ!! .... if you really like here.
If you move to Thailand at least try to be like Thais we can get uncomfortable as the west feels about immigration in their country be kind and respectful and you will be welcomed everywhere not just in Thailand. I hope you all have a nice day.
Let us know how do you feel in Thailand after your euphoria is gone. After you understand and speak thai and afteer you have lived here longer than 10 years. Whait till you understand what it means to be a Farang in Thailand.
So you mean to tell me you haven't even been in Thailand for a year yet and haven't experienced most of the country which is the 7 provinces, countryside, and rural areas so I am confused what are you giving a review about. It is far too much to experience in Thailand to be trying to give advice so soon. Most foreigners don't really experience and get to know the real Thailand outside of Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai other areas in Thailand exist there is no reason to be running down these same areas everyone keeps hyping up. Other areas in Thailand I find to be much better and they are far off the radar of many foreigners and they don't cater to tourism.
@@trippinwitgeorge What experience you haven't really been to any of the countryside or provinces in Thailand. Do you know how much history Thailand has. So your going to share experience of what a few days or a few weeks no you don't know enough about the country you are just making observations.
...I can't share experiences I haven't had. This video wasn't "how I feel after experiencing everything in Thailand" - it was simply my review of the experiences I've had. I may be wrong, but everywhere in Thailand is equally a part of Thailand
i think its overly hyped to be this super kind and polite culture on social media. If you actually live in BKK for awhile you will know that is not the case at least these days. Alot of unhappiness and displeasure, even rudeness and people are no longer as kind as before.
You will have to pay taxes next year. You are enjoying a temporary boost that will not last. Less than 1% of the brits last more than 5 years in SE Asia.

I realize that Thailand isnt a country with racism like the US plus many mass shooting happened there❤ happy to live in Thailand rn😂😂😊 this year is the last year of my highschool just wanna tell who is considering to be an exchange student here, try it! school life in Thailand is so fun trust me❤!! cant believe that im going to graduate in 5 months😢 (sry for my grammar 😅😅)
Hey George,
Great video!
How can i work as a digital nomad and live in Bangkok long term?
Im thai and i have to move to Europe because of work and i have been living in europe for few years now.
i miss how easy my life was when i was in thailand i don’t have to check the temperature before leaving my house no scarf or gloves needed. Can’t wait to move back home. I love your video😊
Thanks John! I would LOVE to find out more about the retreat in Kalasin for sure :) Thanks so much!
Thank you man! Really glad you found it helpful. Good luck with your decision - I hope you make the one that feels right for you 🙏
@@trippinwitgeorge Thanks George. Appreciate that🤜🤛.
The weather in this country is definitely not warm brother it's annoyingly hot all year around hahaha, but I appreciate that you like it and make it sounds nice.
Mannn I was SUFFERING in the heat today 😅
You just revealed the ultimate pull-up spot in Benjakiti ;) Love this parc, there's quite a bunch of water monitor around, especially during raining season. Quite cool to encounter as a westerner.
Hahahah, such a good park! I see so many people working out there...I'd love to do it, it's just sooo humid! 😅 But I should just man up and get it done. I love seeing the water monitors!! Feels so otherworldly to me
Enjoy your journey of life mate chok dee 👍 cheers
Love this message mate. Thanks so much. Same to you!
How much was your seed capital and when will it run out? 👍+1
May I suggest you invite them to Thailand. It is easy to arrange I suppose.
Something I am working on for sure 🙏

Its to hot for me, weather. No no. Vietnam is ok, some parts rough. But awesome life.
Is Vietnam cooler? I never knew!
Have fun in Thailand. ❤❤❤

Who does your subtitles? You might wanna review their work. It’s confusing
Yes, the subtitles are just abysmal, and it really weakens what was otherwise an engaging video.

Convince all of your fam to Thailand! :)
It has to happen!!! I am working on it...slowly 😉
Hi - thanks for sharing. I think this was more of a "how I feel after" more than a "how to" - but yes I agree, visas need serious consideration.
DTV
I agree Thailand is hot as hell
As the native says "Thailand have three seasons. Hot, very hot and SO FRICKIN HOT"(ร้อน - ร้อนมาก - ร้อนชิบหาย)
So true!!
You forgot "Hot and Wet" :-)
Have you experienced any problems with mosquitos?
Haha LOTS! Especially on Phi Phi viewpoint. But...it's never developed into anything serious, just a frustrating few days of itching
the key word to live good in Thailand is "Western income". cos if you live with "Thailand income" It's just be like any other place.
Agreed. And if not, arguably worse (relatively speaking, of course)
Just having an western income in Thailand would be enought for me as a reason to live there.
It changes everything, without needing to do anything. Thanks for watching!
Grass is greener on the other side it seems, as Thai , everything here in Thailand is bad to me and everything in UK is Godsend for me.
I think that is often the way... I think, often, we get desensitised to our homes, and can begin to lose the inherent beauty, and we can begin to take it for granted. Always thinking "that place over there is where I'll be happy"
Yea I can't agree more that the weather is the thing that kills me most about living here, grey and raining most of the year it's just not good for you
Hellz yes. Did someone say vitamin d deficiency?

I wouldn't know where to start as even though I completed Business Studies at 18 with distinction, I have little interest in starting one 😅
I've always been the creative type: music, fanfiction stories, attempting to write a novel series, drawing/painting, making RUclips videos.

I don't know if it's fair to talk about missing your family. Because as you grow, you potentially take jobs that take you away. I
am an American that had been living in Denver, Colorado for 10 years, parents in Nashville, Tennessee.

Your...country...is...AWESOME!
Interesting, thanks for watching and sharing! :D
Move back to Germanistan if you want to visit the third world. No need to travel to SEA.

I can only share my experience of the experiences I've had
@@trippinwitgeorge What experience you haven't really been to any of the countryside or provinces in Thailand. Do you know how much history Thailand has. So your going to share experience of what a few days or a few weeks no you don't know enough about the country you are just making observations.
