  • What's up guys!! Here is a video of a Vibe XD Drive converted to a Vibe/Hobie 180 Drive. Now I say Vibe/Hobie, because it uses some primary parts of the Vibe XD Drive and uses some of the Hobie Mirage 180 Drive.
    So if you don't have a full $900 for a new Hobie 180 drive or the $700 and above for a USED 180 drive (which you wont know if something is wrong with it until you get it). Then here is another option that you can work on yourself and know for sure that it'll work for some time. Hope you guys like the vid, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe!!
    Hobie Parts and Part #'s needed:
    Hobie Mirage Drive 180 Spine Assembly V2- Part# 81527002
    Hobie Mirage Drive 180 Turbo V2 Fin Kit - Part# 72067002
    Hobie Kayak Shifter Set Left and Forward V2- Part# 81486021
    Hobie Kayak Shifter Set Right and Reverse V2- Part# 81491021
    Hobie Split Ring 3/8in SS- Part# 81503100 (need 2)
    Hobie Clevis Pin 3/16 x 7/8 Grip- Part# 8020030 (need 2)
    extra parts needed if you don't want to drill out the Idler Pulley hole:
    Hobie Mirage Drive Drum Idler Pulley- Part# 81123001
    Hobie Mirage Drive #5 Shaft- Part# 81110001
    I noticed the price on these parts have gone up since I last purchased them, but still a better deal than new and/or used.

    Thanks for sharing this!! Not having the kick up fins is a deal breaker for me. I have the reverse and kickup on my Hobie which I love....but if I had to pick only one I would choose the kickup fins. Not having the kickup fins means the potential of bending or breaking one or two fins if I hit a rock or log underwater. Not having reverse only means having to use my paddle to go in reverse.
    If kick up fins is more important to you then a brand new Mirage GT with kick up but not reverse is $825.

    I will say that if the bearings fall out, they can be a real pain getting them lined up and staying in place...
    I was on the water and one of my chains broke, had a spare in the truck, went to the truck and worked on them, well never working on them before, I managed to dump all the pins on the tailgate, didn't have grease, which would have helped hold them in place while installing them back...I was having a difficult time, so the hillbilly in me got to thinking what I can use....lol and a 30/06 bullet fits in the hole perfect 😊 and allows for the pins to line back up without falling out.

    Do you remember what size the drill bit was to make the hole bigger for the pin to fit?

    Great idea if you have a used X-Drive already and want to upgrade but a new X-Drive is $599 and you said the upgrade was $550, you can get a new Hobie Mirage 180 for $800 - $1000. Right? Genius how you figured out this Frankenstein though! I enjoyed the vid. Does the new fin have kick-up too? One of other great benefits of Hobie 180 besides reverse! Thanks for sharing.

    Great video. I need replacement fins for my old V2 Mirage drive with ST turbo fins. I’m wondering if I could use Vibe XD fins as they are way cheaper than the Hobie replacements. Do you have the length of the vibe masts and fins so I can compare to what I’ve got?

    If I was to just buy a Hobie 180 drive would it drop in place with no modifications?

    I have a simple question...
    I'm restoring a 2012 Hobie Revolution 11...
    Does the vibe pedal drive fit in a Hobie without any adapters?

    Just found your channel. Man that thing looks awesome. Does it fit in the original xdrive pod or did u need a new pod?

      Hey Jake, sorry I took so long to get back at ya. But this drive fits perfect on the Xdrive Pod and in the Hobie. It just wouldn't fit on the new 360 drives for Hobie. Other than that, it should fit all Gen 1 & 2 Hobie/Xdrive pods.

    Where would you rate the X-drive stock vs hobie upgrade. The reverse and kick up are two big factors for me the Hobies are so much more though. I just want to be able to hold my position better with out always having to pick up a paddle.

    • @betyourbassiyak6828
      @betyourbassiyak6828  2 года назад

      Derek, great question. To be honest, the 180 Drive is a HUGE game changer to the stock drive. It can help in those "positioning" situations that you are referring to. But yes, those Hobies are expensive and unless you're willing to invest that much I say stick to the Vibe Drive for a while. I've only been able to have the things I have by buying small, saving money, selling that item and upgrading by making up the difference with the saved money. That is what has helped me. Now, as for the kick up fins, I do not have those, but I've heard that they are amazing when going over some wood and/or rocks.

    Does shearwater Xdrive do the kick up fin like hobie when you hit structures?

    • @betyourbassiyak6828
      @betyourbassiyak6828  2 года назад

      Good question, no, it does not. You're really at a version 2/3 on the Vibe XDrive.

    so does the Vibe do reverse if you spin it around like the old Hobies?

    • @betyourbassiyak6828
      @betyourbassiyak6828  2 года назад +1

      Yes, it does. Lol, but either getting a 180 drive or upgrading the Vibe drive is always a step above. But either way, get what's within your budget and comfort level.

      @@betyourbassiyak6828 Vibes drive is $600, thinking of just buying the Hobie drive and maybe the YakGadget pod $179, or just the Vibe pod for $79 vs $600 plus $300-$400 to modify
