- In this video I cover the method I used to upgrade a Hobie Mirage Drive GT to a Mirage Drive 180 V2. This is a fairly advanced conversion, so be sure to watch the whole video and be sure that you're comfortable with all the work involved before taking the plunge!
I did this about 6 months ago. Very easy to do and now that I have a 180 drive I find it an indispensable tool especially for fishing along the jetty.
Nice! It's definitely a worthwhile upgrade.
Did you have the grey GT drive? I have the all black will it work on the original one? I have the V2 with bigger drums
@@YakLocal yes, I had the grey GT Drive. I don't know if you can go from an old drive to the 180 Drive.
Great vid. Helped with my conversion very much. Only issue I had was that my Mirage Drive GT had no bearings whatsoever. I guess the previous owner didn't want to deal with them? I didn't notice any slop when I put everything together but I went and ordered the bearings anyways.
So this is how I convert the Mirage drive on my 2016 to a 180 drive?
do the kick up fins work?
how long did this take you to do?
What did you need to do that? I have the Mirage Drive and I'm interested in convert mine too
its all shown at the start of the video, including part numbers
Does this also upgrade to the kick flip technology?
No..the kick up fin requires a different spine assembly
Will the gt fit in my 2010 hobie mirage sport?
Where did you get the parts from? I cant find them all in one place
Use a small rubber band to hold the bearings together. Just a tip
One important note/comment regarding the bearings. You've opened up the patient. For a nickel's worth of grease, clean, inspect and regrease your bearings. It's just foolish not to take this one preventive step.
Had no clue this would run me north of $500.
I kept my GT and when I have to go reverse. I just take the drive out and flip it real quick. And guess what? I am going reverse and didn’t spend a penny;) and when I have to go forward again. I just drop it back to the standard position
