Life in California vs Florida - my experience of living in California vs Florida

- What are the differences of life in California vs Florida? Having been born and raised in California and then moving to Florida as a teenager, I share my experiences of life in California vs life in Florida. Currently, I have enjoyed living in Florida for the past 38+ years, and reveal why I believe so many people move to Florida under a "false illusion" and then eventually leave our state. Having lived in Carmel, Monterey, Walnut Creek, Antioch and Santa Barbara, California, I am thankful for all my experiences of what life in California is like, compared to my life now in Florida.

I’m born and raised Californian. But lived in Az for a couple years. Thought of moving to Florida but changed my mind. Same about Texas but nah. I love California so much. I surf, cycle, and ski. Also love diversity and great food. Also have tons of family all over cali. Can’t leave. I’ll visit florida but those small waves and bull sharks and jellies deter me to Hawaii.
Yes, Hawaii is beautiful
@youknowkbbaby jelly fish.
Nah I prefer Florida and Texas over California
@@jonjonboi3701 not many ppl can afford to live here. Tx n fl has lots of mountains to hike, bike, and ski. I heard tx waves are best for surfing. And the 100% humidity is good for the skin. Tx n fl have more gun violence than Cali, imagine that. And tx marijuana is still illegal 👌🏽. No tax but 30-55% paycut is so worth it.
Huuuuge reason I wanna move to cali currently in florida
Troy this was incredibly helpful thank you! I just moved out of LA last year and boy did I love living there…. But absolutely hated the cost. But the fact that I can have a similar lifestyle at half the cost (in Florida) is definitely something I’m considering, insiders of moving back to California. So thank you and will let you know if I am in need of real estate services!
Thank you for your response
Nothing compares to southern california !!!
I moved from PA. to FL. (Spring Hill) 20 years ago and I am delighted with my decision. Money goes farther here and I don't shovel snow of pay costly heating bills. I bought a few modest fixer-uppers and enjoy a very comfortable retirement from the rental income. (I could NOT do the same PA.)
Born and raised in the Bay Area and now in San diego living. Money is no problem. Im just not a fan of chilly winters and am moving to florida for the tropical weather and warm ocean 💙
I'm not a fan of sweating because it smells bad...sweating BO...
My wife and I look forward to becoming snowbirds when we retire, going back and forth between Maine in the summer and Florida in the winter.
You nailed it on this. Literally everything I've been thinking after living here for 3 years. I miss the mountains and cold dry air in cali though. We might move back in 2025 idk yet... California really takes advantage of its residents and Florida does not. Cali definitely has better weather in my opinion.
The quality of life really just comes down to, Cali is ran horribly thats a fact and fl is hot and muggy with lots of bugs but, it's ran a lot better than cali thats also a fact..
Another thing to consider is the houses have gone up so much since I've moved here in 2020 that most residents can not afford rent because the wages are not great... I took a 10 dollar hit ph when I moved here from California for the same line of work I was doing in California. I remember when i first moved here houses were still in that 80k - 160k range now its hard to find a house under 300k because investors buy almost everything that is a " good deal " then turn around and rent them for 2,200 a month... So idk it's tuff when it comes to making a decision on where to live especially for long term.
In the process of leaving Miami. Lived in Moreno Valley for a while prior to coming to Miami and since there is no perfect place, you have to choose what you want to deal with and my wife and I both agreed that our lives were better in So Cal. Maybe because so many memories are there for us. Miami is a lot of fun and very glamorous but just not for me. Bring me back to the mean streets of Mo Val. Miss home.
Movall is ass😂😂
Southern California is simply the best all year round
Best in the USA 🇺🇸
Lived in California almost my entire life, but I want to move to Florida now. It's the only place in the US I would rather live. I think I will rent for awhile to actually see if I like living there or not. Then, I will make my ultimate decision which would be to permanently live there or not.
I have family that has lived in Florida for for over 30 years. I grow up in nyc but spend 10 years in California while in the Navy and college. I have also visited Florida a few times. I would choose California if I could afford it. Is just a feeling that California provides that Florida can’t match.
I am from Monterey, California and have lived in Naples, Fl for the last 4 years. Florida is nice, but there is no place like the central coast. The beauty of the central coast makes you feel like you're in heaven and the climate is amazing. I miss cycling on the bike bath. Florida is a nice place I think if you are retired and yes for a second home. But from what I have seen the rent has passed California's rent. Apartments in Naples are 2500 plus and the wages are a lot less for professionals.
I am torn between moving to cali and Fl. For my line of work Fl is roughly paying $33/hr and Cali is paying $45/hr which will increase by a certain percentage every year. I have heard a lot of bad stuff about cali like homelessness and high taxes and crime.
I used a tax calculator and noticed i will still be taking home more money in cali than Fl since i’ll be making more money there and the potential of growth is more in cali than Fl. What would your advice be for a guy in my situation? Also, i am single and i am worried about getting stuck with retired people or in a vacation town.
I grew up in Florida, went west for college, lived in L.A. for 9 years, and now live in Washington State. At the time I moved to WA, I'd venture to say that real estate in WA was half the price as that in L.A.. I was starting anew, after my marriage failed. I needed a change and Seattle/Tacoma were the right fit. Now, real estate prices in WA has seemingly exceeded that of California. The northwest is expensive and it's hard to make a buck. The Florida storms, traffic, bugs, and heat all keep me away. Florida winter weather is better (*not this year) and compared to Seattle, there is an additional 2.5 hours of warm daytime. Seattle/Tacoma this year has been quite cold and even more seasonal rain than usual.
Thank you for sharing. I like Florida for the warm climate ... even with the rain, bugs. etc.
Great video! To me a big deal is taxes in California, but otherwise I would probably move to CA!
Thanks for sharing
No the problem is your taxes is higher than florida and house price are lower in florida so you should stay in florida and i know about beauty about california but trust me you will have a good life of an beach in florida
As a Cuban I live in Florida almost all my life.
I miss siesta key beach .
1. California has Charlie's Angels and Florida has the Golden Girls....
2. There are hundreds of songs written about California...
And maybe 3 written about Florida...
Florida is a huge flat peace of sand sorrounded by water and nursing homes not that there's anything wrong with that...
3. Florida is really just South New Jersey...
Cali all day.
And gators that come out the water and snatch you or your pets....no thanks lol!!
Got to say Florida for city like I Hallandale Beach Florida just a beautiful city with beautiful beaches and businesses and growing communities.
I don’t mind either state, though if I had to pick one, I’d definitely pick Florida.
I’m moving to florida soon , been wanting to move since 2019. It’s become impossible to live in CA , buying real estate here doesn’t seem real anymore .
Welcome to Florida - touch base with me when you are on your way, so I can help you find your new home :)
@@TroyFunkBroker will do , I’m looking for a duplex or a triplex.
@@chad4326 yeah every place has its problems….
Everything's true due impossible living in california
Dont
Trying to deal with home owner insurance that won’t fold when you need them to payout. Most burn ya.
I am from Minnesota. My parents' next-door neighbors are snowbirds. They are currently living in Fort Myers, Florida. They stay there for the wintertime and then come back to Minnesota after that.
i want to move to CA so bad but taxes are higher, overall more expensive. Florida/miami have too much water for me, i want to have mountains to climb with my dog and good forest
Miami cost of living is right up there now with California, though. Rents are very similar now and the wages are low. But, Miami is very relaxing and chill, I cannot deny.
Your website is very difficult to use. It only goes to areas around Sarasota. It's been so frustrating to get real information about depth of water so I can figure out where to move to a place where I can dock my boat at my home.
Great! Great video!
Thanks!
I was born in California and raised there my whole entire life and it’s not bad to live here but it’s also hot.
Heck, if you are looking for cheaper living without the cost of tornado, hurricanes, and surging seas, move to Baja. California's advantages for families are immense. Better eduction 5 of the top 20 universities in the country, with no restrictions on reading materials or rewriting of history. better business opportunities, seeing how you have the world's 4 best economy, and 3 of the 4 top ports in the country. The list is endless. I live in the O.C. and in my youth, I have gone suffering 20 minutes away and skiing 80 minutes away on the same day more than 100 times
Super cool ❤
Is there some beach area neighborhoods which have less storm? How much is a one bedroom apartment, close to the beach?
Everything if Florida is subject to a storm. Price is subjective to supply and demand for the area. The least expensive areas near the beach would be near Englewood, FL or north east Florida
Florida is not affordable anymore.
California is becoming a real Sh*t hole thanks to the wonderful Governor we currently have!
It was a great place to make my living…
To retire in this once beautiful state FORGET ABOUT IT!
Cost of living will be way too high going into retirement!
“F” Gavin Newsome
I think he's saying don't live in Florida in the summer.
I want to get into real estate do you have a video on where to begin
Not yet - feel free to reach out to be directly (941-302-1322)
I was born & raised in California and spent 37 yrs in the California fire service in So. Cal. We couldn't wait to get out upon retirement 14 yrs ago. California is a complete Shithole and their liberal politics makes it 100 times worse. We live in Florida now and it is way-way superior in every aspect of life... and it is a much prettier and cleaner state. Then realize that it is half the cost.... it is just a win-win !
Think of all the songs about California...
Borned and raised in Los Angeles, I moved away in 2002 to Arizona. So glad I moved away, California keeps passing bad laws and it sad to see what it has become. Too many taxes and too expensive. You couldn’t pay me to move to Florida, the state hit with the most hurricanes and has many of the same issues that California is experiencing. Nope to either state.
Thank you for your comments.
You cannot compared California and Florida. California is beautiful and is very different from one area to another vs Florida where everything is the same. Florida is for retirees.
Worked in heaven. It’s called Monterey,CA.
I lived there too briefly - It is definitely Heaven
I like California too expensive though
California VS Florida
El centro, but Florida is home
i've PERMANENTLY got really really FOND memories of texas but i BARELY favor my florida being the obama rally because it had alicia silverstone and calling california's buca di peppo because it had denise richards
i love California but I hate Florida but I don't know about Miami?
Florida all day . California went to shit .
I agree - California was an awesome place to grow up, yet it appears to have changed for the worse.
Lots of Floridians complain that it's going to shit. I hear complaints about tourists, New Yorkers moving there (and others) and not respecting it.
Totally agree I live in southern Cali now Orange County … it’s nice but it has def changed a lot … taxes are ridiculous! Gas is ridiculous! I’m trying to get my wife to move to Florida … we’ll see
I agree that Florida is better than California
California is such a beautiful state! Florida, not so much.
I miss California - yet not what is was when I lived there. Thanks for your comment
Florida is as beautiful as they come. Obviously, you have not visited our natural springs or our secluded coastine
Florida has some of the best natural springs and beaches in the country. How are gonna say it’s not beautiful 😂
@@jaynyce5923 There are some nice areas and I have family who live on the NE & gulf coast.
It just doesn't compare to the beauty of California! At all.
@@ashleysullivan3411 I have.
Hope your don’t vote Democrat to destroy this beautiful state
