We sure do. Had one this last week. Fixed a transmission issue that had already been to several shops with parts cannon fired, we were the last stop before the car went to the junk yard. Customer is happy and pays. Then comes back inside, saying that his windshield wasn't cracked when he dropped it off, and now it's cracked. We take photos of every vehicle when it is dropped off for this reason. Photos proved it was cracked upon arrival, saving us several hundreds of dollars we would've spent to make it right.
Back in 1996 we dropped off our buick to get a new tranmission and when we came to pick up the car the windshield was cracked. They shop denied that they did it.
@CobraR1993 No photos, and it's your word against the shop's word at that point. Which never ends well for one party. Had we not taken the photo, we would've had to just take the customer's word for it and get the windshield replaced on our dime.

This is a problem with taking online payments, because they can use any card to pay if they have enough of a persons information. Or use a family member and then act like they wasnt in on it.
Sorry that happened to you guys. I'm also a business owner in GA- and this is exactly why I stopped taking cards for my low voltage. 8 charge-backs in December 2023. Won 6 loss 2. That was enough for me. we no longer take payment online at our restaurant, you have to come in to pay for your catering order. Signature required, and the ID must match the name on the card.

I'm not playing with these dishonest losers that want it all but don't want to pay for anything. Change how you accept payment like yesterday. If you don't listen to this, you can't cry and gripe about being ripped off the next time because it will happen again if you don't change this immediately. Your business hangs in the balance. This is mission critical serious.

hello Alex and Shon, so glad you are getting a break, but on that disputed charge I am smelling a stolen credit card or one that was used without consent, time to call the PD let a detective talk to the card holder I am betting he knows nothing about a repair and that is why he disputed it, so now it is a crime, the court will sometimes get you paid if this guy is convicted
It’s honestly really sad, I’ve gone as far as not taking credit cards on clients I haven’t worked with before it’s not the end all be all solution I’m sure there’s better options but as business owners we already have enough to deal with to be adding disputed charges to the mix especially when services were rendered properly.
This is crazy especially when you have video proof of the job .. I don’t take anything but cash . And a cash app to only certain customers that have been here for a while .. and I mean years . We got so much going on worrying about paying all the venders and making sure they pay us back for returns .. dealing with junk $hit parts .broke customers and somehow that’s my our problem. It’s so frustrating and exhausting.

I used to run an automotive shop I got customers like this all the time. I would reinvoice customer to the person paying and have them come down and sign in person to confirm it’s them to avoid the fuss with ID. Even camera footage can work in your favor.

The company I work for part-time has been going through that samething. It's happened to them four time in that the last two weeks. They're also doing, we're delivering the products, pay with a credit card. A week or two later, get a phone call from the credit card company saying the card was reported stolen. So the credit card company gives the customer their money back, but the company is out of the money and products delivered.
They could have did debit or credit scam use someone info by hacking and getting their info and using a dummy card or straight hack their card info. That happen to me in PA my card info was stolen and I never used my card in PA someone got my numbers and order pizza and clothes took my last 100 I was like yo. But hope it works out for you guys.
You can't take payments like that its too easy to get someone to fight you if its paid by someone else because its also easy for someone to steal someones cc and eventually they will side with the card holder
Always make an example of those who try to cross you. Especially if you know you are doing everything right. You might just need to be Karma today because Karma might just be too busy.

You shouldn't allow any kind of car to be worked on and paid unless the person who owns the card Is there paying for it in person? Otherwise it's going to be really hard to get your money back, but you need to start taking lots of information. Verifiable information if something smells fishy it is fishy. Alex question I’m stumped. I have a 2011 dodge charger 3.6 v6 and it’s having random multiple codes for the ecu and tcm codes are stating loss of communication from tcm and ecm. I have replaced the tcm module and still nothing. I’m not wanting to put a ton into it as it was an auction purchase. What’s your thoughts. I have 12 volts across the board. What should I look into next.
Personally we use PayPal for our card services. Despite them making us change and update and buy new POS hardware and stuff like that, we at least like we have our money in hand the moment the card is swiped. Never had someone try to dispute a charge before that I know of, but that is also within bank's abilities and the like to play all that, I leave that for my husband, the banker.
I’ve been burned by PayPal with the same thing in the past. Had to sue the customer because they sided with the customer simply because their protection didn’t cover my service.

Square has a lot of problems, I quite using them and went to a private company and they charge percent for every charge but they have to prove it was not there fault .
I’m pretty sure an innocent person got their card skimmed and it was added by the car owner to pay for the repairs. Would make sense for why it took a while before it was disputed because the card owner would have to dispute with the bank first, and then the bank with square. Definitely Atlanta type activity.
If they used Amex forget it this is the side of business ppl don't know about getting Id info with every CREDIT card will help Ppl know credit cards are on their side just to keep the customer
You have to have the cardholder there in person to make the payment, and sign the receipt, so there's no disputing later. If they want to dispute, let them dispute and not give their card number. Don't let the messed up people mess it up for people who are in a tight spot, but will do right by their obligations.
Down time and rest are very important....I tell the younger guys and gals to take time for themselves and family....I put that above work...there is always a job out there and if they expect you to sell yourself solely to it then run away....I've had those jobs and they always end badly....you have regrets of all the moments you have missed....and scammers suck....we've had it happen in the machine shop where we have made thousands of dollars in parts just for them to try and cancel....now everything is 50% up front with unproven customers...
I had a woman come to the shop I was working at begging to fix her car then when done she called the cops and claimed she wanted her money back we broke her car
Yall may need to start getting copies of ID's and a signed letter or something when payment is made by another person other than the customer. Thats a shame yall going through this.

Take them to small clams court and charge for your time going to court also small clams are up to 2000 max if more the it is regular court .
