    I adore getting on the highway and just letting my Mini S do what she does best - run run run and run fast. She corners like she’s on rails and honestly, she really does her best when you get her past 60 mph. I usually drive her at 75 mph and have had her up in the 110-120 mph range, and even at speeds like those she handles like a dream. handling. She is a joy to drive. It’s the beat empty nester car for couples. Plenty of room for the driver and front passenger. We put the back seats down and we have plenty of space for the chihuahuas and the grocery bags and whatnot. Maintenance is key - you gotta stay on top of this car and fixing problems and even maintenance is pricey.

    • @nmikloiche

      22chachalaca (1) Well, the timing chain issue, which was a problem for everyone. That was about $2000 I think to fix. (2) My check engine light has been on for 2 yrs - with 3 attempts to diagnose/fix but no matter what, the light would come back on within days of getting it back. I gave up on it. (3). Low oil pressure warning that comes and goes. (4). If I sit idle for say 5 min or longer, a ton of fumes/exhaust expels. I didn’t even bother to take it in for this bc I have seen many others report this, and I’ve not seen one person come back with a definite cause or fix. (5) Transmission just in the last 6 mths started to act up when I first start up and drive - I will pull out of the driveway and drive to the end of the block and when I begin to slow down for the stop sign, it will downshift but it will downshift very hard. (6). I’ve had to replace 2 of the 4 ignition coils. (7). The heater core stopped working and needed to be replaced, which was about $1200. (8). Vacuum leaks and small oil leaks that the mechanic fixed when they fixed the timing chain. Add all that on to just regular maintenance, which an oil change will cost you over $100 if you get it done at the BMW store or a Euro specialized mechanic, which I’ve just decided to do since it is such a quirky little car. I drive it very little as I work from home and since we have had a grandchild we had to purchase a child friendly car for our primary driver. I still love my Mini and enjoy driving it when I get the chance. Especially when I can open it up on the highway. I’m just going to drive it until it has too many issues and then I’ll probably sell it to a person interested in tuning and tinkering with autos.

      22chachalaca It is a 2007 Mini S hardtop. It has 115,000 miles on it.

    • @nmikloiche
      @nmikloiche 4 года назад +3

      22chachalaca 2007 was the 1st year of the Mini Cooper S Generation 2, so it did come with issues that were fixed in Gen 2 from later production years. If you haven’t already done so, check out the Mini Cooper enthusiast forums to find out if the 2016 production year has any known issues or idiosyncratic behaviors. Lastly, my favorite gem - I love this website - www.dashboard-light.com - because it pulls together reliability data in key areas for each auto and lets you see how different production years of the same auto stack up against each other and it lets you compare different cars within the same class. The website is not biased as it is not funded or sponsored by the automotive industry.

    Nice video, I just bought a 2016 Cooper 1.5 with 30k miles on the clock so well under mileage, and although I haven't driven it much in the few days I have owned it, I do think it is a very potent little thing which, as you rightly say, is super grippy with pleasant keen acceleration. My first car was also a white Mini Clubman in 1986 and I have owned a few, but this model in particular I do like, not least because it's £20 road tax. Would have liked an SD but the one I test drove was on run flats which was a bone-jarring experience and not at all nice so I opted for this one ... I can see myself getting an SD in the future. Kids are grown up now so this is a 2nd car (my car) and is fine for what I need. Anyway, by now you may have bought another Mini since I'm late to the video and you said you might ;-)

      I don't know what you are implying with that comment mate ;-). Have a F56 Cooper S since 1.5 yrs (my first car) and am considering to get a new one with more options. The model as is, is a blast! Perfect size for two people, with backseats down you can pack stuff for weeks on the road. Incredible handling and comfort for that size and every single time puts a smile on my face when I start it up! Of course maintenance fees are higher than a KIA but quality is as well. It is a BMW at the end of the day. Anybody complaining about trunk size or backseat comfort? Well of course it isn't a sedan, but I guess people aren't buying a sports coupé and complain about the low seat position don't they?
      Lastly: if you consider to buy this car and stumble across the higher costs don't forget that the value of the car will hold better than ALL of its rivals. MINIs are easily sold on and will always have a market...

    Nice review but have to say this area looks really minimal spec at 4:18 compared to cars I'm looking at now. Should be a fuel more climate options and the dual zone is definitely worth it as you can do something extreme like 28 degrees one side and 16 on the other, and missing the driving modes switch there but I think you may have mentioned it being there somewhere else. I see you like your vapes too lol

    Did you mention the defect rough door seals on your 3 year old Mini that has worn your door frame paint down to the metal my 2015 car is worse than yours and only got 28k 3 door MCS 2015 too,BMW told me the other day it's caused by an external source (their defect bad design they mean) the rough abrasive door seal rubber and it wont be fixed by them as its not corrosion LOL,any damp on the bare metal will soak into the worn down dry rubber and you get sick of seeing it and trying to remove the brown rust transfered to the rubber.
    i think its shocking that its still happening to 2018 3 door mini's that are suffering this defect.
    My biggest hate on my Mini Coopers S and BMW wont sort it on the 12 year corrosion warranty and to blame the so call external source that is in fact their bad design.
