Real Men Real Style I live in very hot and humid Georgia and in my office Not only would a suit be extremely uncomfortable even in tropical wool or light Fabrics wearing a suit would stand out as officious. In fact polos and khakis are the recommended men's outfit. How should a man with a beer gut where his polos? tucked in? Does he need or would you recommend shirttail garters? I found your link to KK and Jay and was pondering this question.

I am almost 200 pounds now and I have changed my focus from weight loss to overall fitness because I was in definite need of firming up. My ultimate goal is to be 190 - 195 pounds and fit not just thinner. And I am enjoying the process. And I have no more belly or man boobs.
Exactly. Loose clothing makes you look bigger and tight clothing hugs your body in the wrong places. Get the right fit - slim, not overly tight nor overly loose.
Also wearing baggy clothing gives you no incentive to lose weight, because eh I got plenty of room in here. You end up getting bigger with your clothing.

Thank you for the tips. I'm not huge or obese, but I am carrying a bit more weight around my midsection than I would like, and I have limited options to get rid of it due to a back surgery and ongoing serious spinal issues. The rest of my body is proportional, but I have to deal with a protruding midsection. For everyone just saying "lose weight" or "slim up the midsection" I want to remind you that not everyone can do those things easily with significant spinal and/or back problems.
Hey, Great video, please do a video on dressing smarter for wheelchair users with a bit of a gut, jackets are harder to wear when seated, my shoulders are 44 - 46" but need much larger round the belly when seated. Currently wear oversized polo shirts and sweatpants as a stable, but would like to appear much sharper as im nearing 40 yrs. Thanks !
Very good point. I'm thinking that you would do well to find a trustworthy tailor to help you make suitable alterations. Your needs are unique. Think of it as finding a long-term partnership, the same way guys ought to be finding an auto mechanic they trust.
I've heard some of these tips from various sources, but you are the first to put it all together with explanations. I'll be passing this information to my coworkers.

Side effects include better overall fitness (missionary anyone?), health and more fatburn even when you're not working out. I work out something like half an hour each week (3x10 minutes) and i look super fit, even with a little gut, which is fine and pretty normal in your fourties. Keep in mind, I don't say change your life and become a fitness freak... just a little shoulders and chest and you'll quickly become far more alpha looking. Great channel btw.
@@tempestandacomputer6951 so you agree with his "best advice, to walk straight" 😂 ffs Yeah the best advice is always the obvious but no one wants to put the work in...they want the easy cop out solution, Simple.
This is the type of body positivity we need. You’re not promoting people for being overweight, but you’re meeting people where they are and making them look as good as they can!
I really appreciate you throwing in the straight fit tip for jeans because it not only applies to those with beer bellies, but also to people who simply have legs that are out if proportion with their body. Speaking of which, you should make a video for men that simply don't have proportionate bodies regardless of their weight. Thanks Antonio. PS. Amazing jacket, I love the buttons. :)
Former US Marine in my late 40s, 6'5" 270. I was 210 when I graduated boot camp in 89, and rocked everything I put on. I'm stuck in this netherworld of not looking fat, but not in-shape anymore either. At my age you really have to switch up your strategy about exercise and food, because your metabolism changes. If you don't work a bit harder to stay on top of it, you start slipping. And at this age you start to have just a bit less energy and work is in full swing. giving you less free time than ever. Easier to keep the momentum going rather than get it started, so younger guys....take heed. Prepare now for what's to come.
It's tough for the guy with a full bread basket, but here are my thoughts: A). Pleats are your friends. They have a longer rise, which allows them to be worn around the problem area, with the pleats deflecting the extra pounds. B). Wear suspenders. Your slacks will stay put. Lots of guys think they're old school, but until that spare tire is lost, you gotta' hide, blend, and deceive the world. C). Wear dark colors. Antonio is quite correct. Listen to him! D). I sell suits every day to all kinds of shapes - Please pay attention to the following: Don't wear skinny slacks. Ever. It is rather hard for a salesperson to keep a straight face when you step out of the dressing room wearing pants that look like you used a crowbar to get in them. E). Finally gentlemen, don't let your wife dress you. As always, your jacket and shirt were elegant and appropriate Antonio. Keep up the good work. Angie
Wilshire Girl there’s a point of contention I have with point A. Pleats are not my friends. It creates a ballooning effect on me. It makes me look sloppy. Now let’s understand my issue is not a beer belly as Antonio defined it. My buttocks and thighs are large as is my belly. He’s not addressing this as I am sure you’re not. And that’s fine given the topic. Now theoretically if there’s one deep pleat per side then yeah it might work. Such a pant they don’t make.
been watching you and a few other mens fashion youtubers for a while now and i think you are the only one who has done some thing like this so kudos for not forgetting about us with belly's! it is crazy how myself being average height guy with a belly gets overlooked EVERYWHERE! i even work at a DXL and the stuff there is always too big on me. ive been doing all custom stuff recently because there is hardly anything out there. thanks and keep up the great work! ;)
Most designers and manufacturers are excessively into the "slim fit" style at present... but this fashion will change again and there will be easier times for men with bellies. Never compromise on fit.
I'm a chubby clothes horse. I agree with everything you said and use them all., In fact, I have 6 bespoke Guyabera outfits {suits} . I live in Baja where it's warm. One thing you I don't remember you mentioning. I have my tailor my jackets to be very full in the chest, almost an English drape look. Straightens out things proportionaly. Also i have him cut the shoulders a teeny bit wide and the placing of the top button is important. it makes a big difference Love yourstuff.
As a larger guy, those comfort waists are a must in khakis and slacks. Definitely a must. Also if you want to lose the weight, try the keto diet. I am down 20 lbs myself!
It helps to wear a waistcoat under a jacket to cover the belly bulge, especially when the jacket will not button up. Alternatively a knitted slipover or short sleeved buttoned knitwear under the jacket. BTW the UK rarely has a problem of high temperatures !!
Hi there, First of all, I want to thank you for all of your advice. It sure has helped me tremendously. This video touched me especially. I'm in my late fifties and have a beer belly. (which I'm not proud of). You've given me some great ideas on how to present myself with some sort of dignity. Your other topics halso helped me to better present myself were as before I felt inferior. I'll continue watching and appreciate your advive. Sincerely, Marco Mino
A dark V neck sweater vest is great camouflage as it adds to the vertical and hides the waistline itself. Braces are good as he mentioned. Dark colors (again as mentioned) are also great.
The tip about dark fabrics is good. Be sure to avoid drab dark clothing. Many chunky guys seem to gravitate towards drab tones because they think the lack of color will act as some sort of camouflage. On the other hand, be careful about loud Hawaiian shirts; they're somewhat cliché for heavier dudes. Understated Hawaiian shirts do work well for weekend wear though if worn very sparingly.
Great video! One thing I struggle with that makes a big difference is posture. Good, stand-tall posture really improves the perception of the overall size of the man showing broader shoulders and a thicker chest. Also, for the budget-minded, Costco has a great deal on regular fit jeans made of a stretch denim that look and wear great. They're about $15 a pair.
This is exactly the video I needed. Going to try wearing jackets and suspenders more often. I found recently that in a casual setting wearing a flannel over a t-shirt has a similar effect by adding width to the shoulders.
I appreciate the advice. After losing 45lbs since January, it’s been a little frustrating to STILL have a gut. I’ll give some of these tips a try until I lose the belly.
my go to garment to look porportional with thicker belly/stomach area is a well fitting vest..dressy casual ones that can be worn with slacks or jeans (both)...in a solid color co-ordinated with whats being worn...yes the mono cromatic look works best most everytime for thick and or tall men...thats a fact..! 👍 rock on guys! 👍
I fought the idea of wearing suspenders for my larger belly but I finally gave in several months ago. I am glad I did switch over to suspenders because I no longer have to fight all day to keep my pants up around my belly or fight to keep my shirt tucked in. I recommend the comfort waist band with suspenders because it does allow the pants to move with the belly or buying pants one size bigger.
Awesome video need more videos for big man like myself please in the future do more big man videos there's a lot of big men out there what style we just need a little help thank you very much
Just watch this video. I love it. My husband is exactly this type. He hates to shop. Wears tucked in t-shirts also. I will definitely use your advice and hopefully so will my husband. He is already a sexy man but there is room for improvement in the dress department
Great Shoes are a way to distract; but like you said...If you look like you're put together rather than in 'hanging around' casual clothes, people are going to notice this about you. I like the emlets and pockets for the shirts...nice touch and a jacket needs a kerchief to distract as well...Thanks
Thanks Antonio, finally someone addresses this issue. I'm 20 lbs over weight and I have always had this problem. I have lost weight before but the belly stays. it's also the issue of when I wear a t shirt, Henley, Polo or just untucked button down is that it rides up on me and exposes my belly. I try to buy shirts that are longer, sometimes it works and sometimes they shrink in the wash.
+Russell Bogrett Casual shirts with a curved hem gently fall over the stomach flab while pulling up on the sides. They need to be long enough to prevent exposed flesh when stretching or bending.
Guys, note that there is a difference between your waist (which is at your hips) and your belly which is above your waist. If you wear your pants at your waist, their belt line will slant downward and the front will be at your waist, which looks bad. Instead, wear your pants so that the belt line is horizontal, meaning the front is against your belly not at your waist--that is a much better look. This usually requires suspenders--so make your suspenders a positive contributor to your look, you don't need to try to hide them. 1) Use suspenders with buttons instead of clips except in very casual circumstances. 2) Wear smart suspenders, such as with a pattern and a color that makes them an accessory (see the RMRS videos about choosing appropriate accessories).
I like the vest for casual wear. I don't often "dress up" anymore since retirement, but vests are out there now in many colors, cuts, and are very functional. Summers are hot where I live but a light weight vest helps me with my considerable girth and is usually not commented on especially worn over the venerable t-shirt or worn closed over a bare chest.
wear compression tank tops underneath all your shirts, it does keep your belly in check (among other things) walmart has a 5 pack of white tank tops for about 13 dollars
Wore them when I was fighting, they were great. Post injury, I wear them still. They do a great job of helping to smooth out the line of my body now that I have gained weighg.
I really appreciate your efforts Antonio. Thanks. Going for suspenders instead of belts will be pragmatic. Lesser the contrast the better I guess between pant and shirt color. A brighter tie can bring flair to the outfit. Please do correct me if I am wrong.
Some guys have a six pack , I`ve got a keg , yeah I know don`t get jealous but seriously the first way I try to hide it is by having a top that dose not need to be tucked in to my trousers . I do like your presentations , I`m learning every time I watch one .
I find that having a subtle vertical pin stripe through the material is pretty good - and definitely avoid horizontal stripes. I rely on black a lot. The thing is that living in the Australian tropics, a coat or even long sleeves is just stupid. People ask you if you are going to a funeral or a wedding. It's culturally inappropriate in regional tropical areas here. Got any suggestions in this type of situation?
I appreciate the vid. I do those things. Living in Mexico I wear Guyabara shirts and suits. I even have some bespoke Guyabara sits. I always go with lighter weight shoes and matching belts I also buy and dress in outfits. I use nice jewelry to draw the eye away from my belly. I also wear unlined khaki jackets and suits. Also, I pay extra attention to sharp creases and well-shined shoes. I am glad you dealt with this subject. Where were you 40 years ago when I started in business?
I am one of the beer belly guys. I'm having the problems on most pants slipping down like the teenage kids are wearing these days. How can I take care of the problems? Especially, when I walk the pants want to slip down. Lost of self confidence.
Thank you so much I have a gut and am working on getting rid of it It is hard to dress nice when your at the mercy of retailers It’s definitely easier when your trim and fit
Hello.... one rip I didn’t hear in this video is attention toward posture and how much it helps any man in any style of clothes. Posture and alignment “speak alot about the man”....and enhance the effort he’d make in clothing choices, how comfortable he presents himself and in making others more comfortable too.
Please do one for us big belly guys in the really hot summer with high humidity.... We cant wear coats nor vests and polyester heavy shirts can cause even rashes in the summer
Very useful advice. I am overweight and all the extra weight is on my mid-section. Since I put the weight on I now need to use braces to keep my trousers up. My main problem is shirts - if I buy a shirt to fit my body without the buttons bursting out, the collar size is far too big as my neck is normal size, as are my arms and legs! Shirts (in England anyway) are always measured by collar size. The answer obviously is to have them custom made, but that is very expensive. Perhaps I need to go on a diet!
I am a big fan of your channel. Just want to ask you how to pair and dress in a coloured jeans like teal or royal blue. Please make a video of them. I am Indian guy 5.5 and your tips help me a lot
Awsome clip to show ant I know exactly what u mean when you say your not big or tall but you just have a gut that's me and I have found polo tops and black colored shirts work well , cheers again
Thank you! I have been following your videos all this time and try to use whatever I can. But I have a belly I must contend with. Thank you dearly for this.
Well, you're late for the video. I hated my beer belly so damn much, I started a healthy diet and exercise, it was hard in the first 3 days but then the happiness that I felt about myself, the strength inside and the confidence made me addicted to be in shape and health. Believe me guys, unhealthy food can kill you just like cigarettes (if not more). Thanks Antonio, you're the man.
Clearly pilsner urquell is a winner so far! Imagine walking in the desert for 5hour and stop by a taverna were they serve well cold pilsner urquell. San miguel & Leffe are high rankers. But nothing beats a nice bottle of red wine. I found out that Trapiche never failed me. Red wine goes with all kind of meats even fish no matter what the experts say. But when your throut is really sand dry a cold beer is blessing from god.
Hi Antonio. I'm so glad that you have uploaded this video as I used to be so stylish but have really been struggling due to having a lot of weight suddenly around my middle (due to one of the side effects of the medication that I'm taking). When I try on shirts or jackets they might fit round my middle but are huge across my shoulders and across my arms and chest. Just to be clear you would suggest getting these things to fit around the middle and get the rest of the shirt (i.e. shoulders, arms etc) altered by a tailor?
suspenders or braces as we call them in the UK are your best friend when you have a big belly. no more having to keep pulling up your trousers, even tho you wear a belt
Wearing dress shirts untucked over jeans or shorts. Works for me. I'm very muscular but with a gut. If you looked at me straight on, you can't really tell but from the sides I look like I'm in my 3rd trimester.
Jos A Bank makes a “regal” cut specifically for guys with big stomachs compared to the rest of their body. Layers are your friend. A well fitting vest makes an alright outfit that makes your body look ok turn into an amazing outfit that really hides your size.
Last one,. Don't be afraid of color. Wear the darker clothing as Antonio suggested. But don't be afraid to add a little something with color. A scarf (winter) a tie, a handkerchief would be great. Josh Gad is a little big guy who does this extremely well. Jim Gaffigan too, when he is not making fun of himself during his stand-up.
A longish ever so slightly baggy t shirt thats got form fitting arms can be a good look if you try them on in the store , just because it says it's your size dosnt mean it will fit propely.
Now I don't have a beer belly but I am a 5'7" average slim build with a small milkshake belly and a wide small chest. So of course I would like to see the average Joe dressed like a million bucks vs the supermodel or even a balance between the two
interesting video, reaffirms what I've known for years, I noticed you didn't point out the Hair, eyebrow color combo. Dark hair, eyebrows and eyes along w/ darker colors can set a tone as well.
For when you're dressing more casually: I've got a couple of almost "formal" looking, solid black, pullover hoodies (if you can imagine that) that work great. The hood gives the look of a thicker upper back/chest area, and if I hike the sleeves up just a little bit, it makes me look huge in the biceps and shoulders. An artificial "V-taper," if you will. I haven't set foot in a gym in years, and I look frikkin YOKED lol🤣
Just found your site and subscribed. I have a bit of a gut and was going to a cookout with some childhood friends that I had not seen in 30 years, so I wanted to look good. I took your advise on the longer dark shirt (not the type you talked about) un- tucked with with a nice pair of jeans. I actually looked really good, I stopped at a grocery store on the way and I noticed a number of woman checking me out (really not my imagination )That was a plus. All in all a simple change did well...Thanks

I was going to write something nasty about this. he should use actual models that has a gut....
Yea... but most of the fat people don't make good models so it will invalidate his recommendations XD.

Great channel btw.
Great video! Your style is easy to listen to, you come off as sincere, and you don't use 'presentation clichés'.
My best advice for guys with a belly is to walk straight. Just practice a good posture, it helps a lot.
+Traian Teodor Good posture and being confident in your size matters.
Don't you mean waddle straight?
Best advice... Really?!? How about excersising and diet, that would be the best advice.
@@achemicalsoul wow, I can't believe no one every thought of that before!
@@tempestandacomputer6951 so you agree with his "best advice, to walk straight" 😂 ffs
Yeah the best advice is always the obvious but no one wants to put the work in...they want the easy cop out solution, Simple.
This is the type of body positivity we need. You’re not promoting people for being overweight, but you’re meeting people where they are and making them look as good as they can!
I lived in Hawaii, South Florida, I currently live in Texas. I'm NOT wearing a jacket when it is 106° in the shade. No way!
Finally! I found something I can relate to with regard to my husband’s belly. It is exactly as you describe. Thank you!
How should a man wear slacks or jeans? My husband has a large belly and wears the waist below the belly.
been watching you and a few other mens fashion youtubers for a while now and i think you are the only one who has done some thing like this so kudos for not forgetting about us with belly's! it is crazy how myself being average height guy with a belly gets overlooked EVERYWHERE! i even work at a DXL and the stuff there is always too big on me. ive been doing all custom stuff recently because there is hardly anything out there. thanks and keep up the great work! ;)
Most designers and manufacturers are excessively into the "slim fit" style at present... but this fashion will change again and there will be easier times for men with bellies. Never compromise on fit.
+Hoomenbean Appreciate the comment. Thanks! :)
+Wolf0067 Exactly!
Great advice for most men. Even, and especially as we age. Thank you Sir.
Excellent useful information for gentlemen with a growing midsection thanks for the video
Super! Thanks, Frank.
Right in the feels. I need this for now, and putting in the work to get back into my better self.
Cheers!
Also i have him cut the shoulders a teeny bit wide and the placing of the top button is important. it makes a big difference
Love yourstuff.
Question: where is best button placement?
As a larger guy, those comfort waists are a must in khakis and slacks. Definitely a must. Also if you want to lose the weight, try the keto diet. I am down 20 lbs myself!
And intermittent fasting dr. Ken Berry
Sincerely,
Marco Mino
Thanks for watching. It's all about being confident in your size and wearing clothes that fit. :)
They also force your pants to sit up on your waist and avoids your belly hanging over the waistband.
Awesome video need more videos for big man like myself please in the future do more big man videos there's a lot of big men out there what style we just need a little help thank you very much
Wow, thanks a lot. Nice to see someone speak to me as a "normal" person. Much appreciated
Just watch this video. I love it. My husband is exactly this type. He hates to shop. Wears tucked in t-shirts also. I will definitely use your advice and hopefully so will my husband. He is already a sexy man but there is room for improvement in the dress department
Always topical. Always informative. Thanks! Your videos are always informative and on point. Very helpful
So it's about beer belly men, and the models are slim/athletics!!!! So practical tips lol
A lot of really good tips in this video for the everyday man. Good work!
The second you said Wisconsin, I yelled Badgers😂. Thank you for your contents: From clothing to perfumes. Helps us being gentlemens.
wear compression tank tops underneath all your shirts, it does keep your belly in check (among other things) walmart has a 5 pack of white tank tops for about 13 dollars
Brett Bowron any chance you have a link for it?
Wore them when I was fighting, they were great. Post injury, I wear them still. They do a great job of helping to smooth out the line of my body now that I have gained weighg.
Give all us fat fucks a link to them.
woodleaf11 Wal-Mart for the cheap ones, Tommy Coppers for middle of the road and UnderArmor for the really good, but also really expensive ones.
Thanks a lot but I just ordered one from E-Bay. Only ordered one 'cos I want to see if it works on me .
Wearing a light weight, loose but a right size sweater helps ALOT! The time i started wearing them, People have been asking me Tips to get Slim :D
Where were you 40 years ago when I started in business?
its very nice to have tips from such gentleman , i surely will utilize these in the future
+SAMSUNG SMART tv Sounds like a plan. :)
Can't help but think of Thorton Mellon's stores in the beginning of Back to school...
"You can't dress in the big and tall section" that is the truest statement and I would not have expected that to come from you
I am one of the beer belly guys. I'm having the problems on most pants slipping down like the teenage kids are wearing these days. How can I take care of the problems? Especially, when I walk the pants want to slip down. Lost of self confidence.
For relax and casual I like hoodies with small or no logos
Thank you so much
I have a gut and am working on getting rid of it
It is hard to dress nice when your at the mercy of retailers
It’s definitely easier when your trim and fit
always enjoy your videos great presentation. I said finally a video for an average size male we are not a skinny and fit
Being a bigger fella I like that you touch on the subjects of us "huskier" men lol Thanks, Joe
You're welcome. Glad you liked it.
Hello.... one rip I didn’t hear in this video is attention toward posture and how much it helps any man in any style of clothes.
Great job explaining things with style fundamentals, Antonio. Well-done!
Appreciate the comment.
Half the reason I listen to death metal are that the black clothes and leather jackets are so slimming!
Thank you. I want to get hubby a sports jacket, but pride...
I kinda worked out those tips over time. Great to have them reinforced, so thanks man. Good vid.
Suspenders are the best ever. So much more comfortable.
3:15 My new pose for the ladies.Thank
you kindly Antonio!
Hahaha
Awsome clip to show ant I know exactly what u mean when you say your not big or tall but you just have a gut that's me and I have found polo tops and black colored shirts work well , cheers again
Jean jacket.. sure go for the Canadian tuxedo!
Great video ! Thank you for always giving a nice variety for every type of body!
You're welcome :)
Great ideals! Thanks for the wonderful instruction tips.
Thank you! I have been following your videos all this time and try to use whatever I can. But I have a belly I must contend with. Thank you dearly for this.
You're welcome - Thanks for watching :)
antonio... do you recommend eliminate the shoulder pads to the sport jacket if we are overweight and have belly???
Well, you're late for the video. I hated my beer belly so damn much, I started a healthy diet and exercise, it was hard in the first 3 days but then the happiness that I felt about myself, the strength inside and the confidence made me addicted to be in shape and health.
Believe me guys, unhealthy food can kill you just like cigarettes (if not more).
Thanks Antonio, you're the man.
+Anas Alwash Awesome!
Great and Realistic Video. Thank you very much Antonio
+W Rostom Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Clearly pilsner urquell
is a winner so far!
Wear longer sleeved shirts than normal or french cuff. Braces/suspenders definitely help me.
just out of curiosity how tall are you feller 🤷♂️. 🇬🇧
i rock the chub and tuck
Thanks for the advice Antonio; I'll use it after gorging on the steaks!
haha perfect
suspenders or braces as we call them in the UK are your best friend when you have a big belly. no more having to keep pulling up your trousers, even tho you wear a belt
+John James Avoid wearing belts and suspenders together.
yep with you on that one
Wearing dress shirts untucked over jeans or shorts. Works for me. I'm very muscular but with a gut. If you looked at me straight on, you can't really tell but from the sides I look like I'm in my 3rd trimester.
I have a gut and when I buy shirts and jackets in order for my gut to fit then the sleeves are too long. Any recommendations?
Exactly! Contrast is important. Pair a contrasting color to highlight the complexion of your face.
A longish ever so slightly baggy t shirt thats got form fitting arms can be a good look if you try them on in the store , just because it says it's your size dosnt mean it will fit propely.
Good job! To continue to be helpful, you need to focus more on this subject
Antonio this was the video I was waiting for
+Romeio Brown Cool!
Now I don't have a beer belly but I am a 5'7" average slim build with a small milkshake belly and a wide small chest. So of course I would like to see the average Joe dressed like a million bucks vs the supermodel or even a balance between the two
every piece of clothing you are showing is on a slim man! what good is that?
interesting video, reaffirms what I've known for years, I noticed you didn't point out the Hair, eyebrow color combo.
