I watched this video for the first time a long time ago . I’m a service manager for an Hvac and plumbing company. I’m a bigger guy. I don’t dress for Wall Street, but I invested in higher-end construction brand clothing, Duluth and carhartt brands mainly. Then I changed my attitude to large and in charge and stopped worrying about what people my think of me, I’m in command of my style! From out in the field , to the conference room , and all team meetings in front of 200 people. It was a literal overnight response I got in the office and the guys out In the field. My nervousness is gone and The respect is there. The right clothing to get the look you need and the right attitude can do wonders for your career. This video is perfect advice.

At 5'11" and 280, I have a big build. I carry it well, cause I was in the military and still have big shoulders, but that just mean I need to patch how I present myself.
For most of my clothing needs, I love the Kohl's big and tall section. I normally have to buy a 3xl, but if I can find a nice 2xt with a wide collar, I go for it every time.
One tip for my fellow big guys, when possible, roll up a long sleeve shirt instead of a short sleeve. we tend to have big beefy arms, draw some attention there.

I love the 20's and 30's style of dress for men and it actually fits my body type well. You asked about brands and stores; believe it or not Walmart carries a pair of pants that works very well for the pear or oval shape. Wrangler Comfort Flexfit cargo pants. The cargo pocket is an inside pocket with a hidden zipper so you don't see it. They actually look like a trouser or slack. They are made with polyester/nylon flex material and work very well with suspenders with braces rather than clips. Get a size larger and you can wear them at the natural waist.

As I posted in reply to one of your other videos, and you allude to: Remember that your wast and your stomach are not in the same location. Your waist is at your hips. You can buy (for example) underwear for your waist size, but generally should not buy pants that size. IMHO, your pants should fit at the center of your stomach, with the pants waist horizontal--nothing calls attention to your stomach size as much as having pants whose waist is below your stomach (at your waist) so your stomach is hanging over your pants waist and belt. That usually requires high-rise pants and suspenders (as he mentioned). Yes, you can wear suspenders with casual pants including jeans and khakis. Suspenders are a great way to add some pop to your outfit however informal or formal it is, don't be intimidated about them. Or you can wear suspenders that do not call attention to them--for example, even denim suspenders with jeans.

Want to add a second comment here. As I stated earlier, I am short 5'3". I am also round. I can't tell you how many times another person has equated my height with competence. Same with my weight. Even when I am helping someone move. How many guys come running over thinking that I am weak. It's sad really. When I started dressing well at work, I noticed that some wanted to hear my ideas and take my contributions seriously (we are project-based work). I cannot emphasize enough how dressing well really affects the way people treat you.

LONG/HIGH RISE - So true, thank you Antonio. All trousers used to be of a higher rise. Then about eleven years ago they all went low rise. For a bigger guy that was bad news.
Lands’ End does regular and long rise in their khakis and dress pants. It’s all I’ll buy. Note to fellow viewers - Long Rise is different from “Tall.” Tall is about the outseam (ie how long the pants are overall), whereas Long Rise is about the inseam (ie how much room there is from the crotch to your belt line). I have to have Long Rise or my stomach hangs over my belt line. No good. I’d be screwed without Lands’ End.

I'm 36 years old and a pretty big guy myself (around 5'11" and 340 lbs) and I just started going in this direction recently
I've been a big dude fr a while (about 6 or 7 years now) and for so long my natural inclination was to just focus on "being comfortable" - so I just tried to buy everything as lose as possible. When going out to the shops I would wear things like (horror) basketball shorts and loose t-shirts and sports shoes. Even to work I would dress down about as mch as I could get away with while still meeting the dress code - which was usually jeans, sports joggers and T-shirt or polo shirt - all as lose as possible.
I guess my mentality was always that I'm a big dude, I'm not impreasing anybody, so why bother trying?
But for a few months now I;'ve been focussing a lot on sel-improvemenet, and I decided I needed to completely change my outlook on life. Because when you are a big guy, it's already inevitable that people are going to look at you and assume (by default) that you are lazy, that you lack discipline, and that you lack confidence / pride in yourself. Those assumptions almost certainly are just as much a turnoff to people (especially women) as your actual body itself, so I figured the worst thing i can posible do is reinforce those stereotypes by dressing in the sloppiest, laziest way possible.
So starting around 3 months ago, I've made a really dramatic change in the way I think and the way I present myself, and it all started with tone simple concept: "dont dress according to how I think people will view me - dress acording to how I want people to view me".
    - If I dont want people to think I'm messy/loppy, then take the time to make sure I have clothes that fit me as best as they can.
    - If I dont want people to think im lazy, then present myself in a way that makes it clear I put in more effort then I needed to
    - If I dont want people to think I take no pride in my appearance, then put some real thought into the items I match together so that others can see that I've really thought about my entire outfit
So for the first time in years, I've really invested a lot of extra money over the past few months into my wardrobe. I've bought 8-10 nice dress shirts, some trousers and jeans, 4 or 5 pairs of quality dress shoes, a few nice belts, and a few accessories (watches, sunglasses, cufflinks, etc) - with the idea being now that now I have such a variety of items that there is really never a scenario where I can't put together an outfit where every items fits together well and looks like it was properly thought out.
And since Ive been dressing better I can't even describe how much the rest of my mentality has changed. Simply knowing that I'm the best dressed person in the room most of the time (and dont looke like a lazy slob) has boosted my confidence in a huge way both socially and in the workplace. That increased confidence really does create a domino effect, because seeing how much better if feels now makes me want to do more things to better myself so I can even further boost that confidence. It helped motivate me to get on a serious diet, to put more effort into my professional development, etc.
Sorry for the long post but just putting this out there in case ther are other guys out there who are big who used to have that same type of mentality I did, hopefully this post can help to motivate some of those people to change their way of viewing themselves. It all comes down to just doign everything within your power to try and be the best man you can be!

I've been on a similar journey for the last couple years. That mindset shift has even lead me to getting back into a simple yet totally doable walking/exercise routine and eating smarter/healthier. I'm not making any invasive diet/exercise program jumps, because I've started and failed those routinely. Just being better than yesterday... everyday. And this has helped in the style shift and confidence areas too. Just feeling better physically, emotionally and mentally leads to more options and possibilities in life, style and career.
Keep up the good work and be sure to mark your accomplishments even if they're small, because you did it... Not anyone else! Well Done, Sir!🙌🥰🙌

Thank you, Antonio. As a big man of 5'8 and 330 lbs I understand how to be Large and In Charge. I agree with all your tips. Especially on the pants, suspenders, beards and hats. For big men its the accessories that make all the difference. You have to step it up that extra level of style. When I'm at an event or mixer with all suits, I'm the only one with a boutonniere and a Homburg or Bowler hat, or a waistcoat and pocket-watch and chain. I'm a big man and commonly the best dressed at the party, and you better know I stand out as not a fat guy, but a Big Man living large! Its the most important thing you said: ITS ALL ABOUT CONFIDENCE! Simply because you are a big man doesn't mean you cant be charming, charismatic, commanding, and yes even sexy. NEVER HIDE! STAND OUT AND BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE! DEMAND RESPECT IN YOUR SPEECH, DRESS, AND BODY LANGUAGE! Make your affect a gentlemanly but powerful personality. You have to walk into a room like YOU ARE King Pin and back up that sharp look with confidence and refinement. You are big, not a medieval leper outcast. You can have women, money, success and fame the same as any other man of any size if you want it, work for it, and believe in yourself.

As a large man, with an even larger head, finding off-the-rack that (mostly) fits is definitely a challenge. Because of my 18 1/2-inch neck, I have to buy slim-fit shirts so they don't fit like circus tents. And as I have aged, my shape, and therefore suit size, has changed. Ten years ago, I was just stepping up from 42 long to 44 long. Now I'm in a 46 regular as my arms haven't grown, but other areas have. As for suspenders, I love them, but for us with a little extra around the middle, it becomes an issue with top part of the waistband folding forward, since there's no belt to hold it in place.

I am a big guy. I struggled with finding clothes that fit me. And forget about trying to find my size in the stores on a constant basis. I found a company that focus on big guys. They are more for us blue colar than white colar. Duluth Trading Company. Now, they have casual clothing more for guys who spend time in the office, but needs to be able to hold up to the trip out to the field. I have been wearing there clothes in a machine shop for years and they hold up very well. I do suggest going to a store, even if it's a 3 hr haul like mine, and try on EVERYTHING. Bring a note pad and write down all the styles and sizes that fit. This way you can reorder online and it will fit just right. Case in point, I wear a 2XL t-shirt, XL tall button shirt and jacket, and a XL sweater. Just because many guys I work with wears t-shirts dosen't mean that I can't up my style, especially since I have been there the longest, and wear a solid color button up shirt with my jeans.

Good on you for making that decision. As a woman married to a tradesman who's transitioned from baggy jeans, t-shirts and sneakers to a more dapper version of himself, I can second Antonio's recommendation to do it gradually and learn along the way. Maybe start off with a pair of dark jeans and t-shirt that fit well and add a leather jacket. Get a long sleeved, linen shirt that monochromatically matches your pants and roll the sleeves up below the elbow for a dressier but still relaxed look. Swap out sport shoes for something in leather, perhaps an elastic-gusset dress shoe until you're comfortable to transition to lace-ups. And yes, definitely keep your head and facial hair looking sharp at a really good barber.

My fitting problem usually comes from the width of my shoulders, so I have to take my shirts in at the waist. The best way I've found is to start sewing at the elbow of the sleeve and turn at the seam between the sleeve and the body.(this also helps with the shirt untucking problem with off the rack shirts) I also get a little more aggressive a few inches below the armpit because my lats are a little pronounced from rock climbing.
Always start by turning the shirt inside-out and pinning it with safety pins, so you know exactly how you want it!
Hope this helps someone out there

big man here, 6'3", former powerlifter, now chubby with a bad back. i shop kingsize xl, dxl is pretty pricey. casual male has some better pricing. I'll add- checkout celebrities- Charles Dutton, for example- the crazy black preacher from alien 3- he's a big man, spends A LOT on his look, he covers everything very very well, even in a vest that's a bit longer. it's easy to hide anything you want and look stylish. almost all big men's clothing is that sloppy gym look and it's an easy everyday thing to fall into- but it makes you look like a slob, so. get 1 decent fitting suit, some gear to mix and match- and ALWAYS go lightweight, many layers, you don't wanna be sweating your ass off.

I am large and short. I hate the fact that I can buy a cheap pair of pants, but then have to pay $28 more just to get them hemmed. Same with suit jackets and the like. Don;t even get me started on jeans. I wish they made hems shorter than 29. 25-27 would be absolutely ideal.
