  • On day 3 of our Utah to Colorado off-road adventure my son and I met with our good friends and ran the Poison Spider Mesa trail in Moab. This trail has been on my bucket list for a while and it was so awesome to finally get the opportunity to tackle it. Poison Spider did not disappoint!

I'm getting a small club group of overlanders to do Poison Spider this 2023 EJS and watching Brad and Marko doing it is inspiring. Also noted is the 6 cylinder Jeep doesn't sound nearly as good as the V8 rumble of the 392.

Thank you Brother, Love these videos., you are inspiring me to get out there. I currently have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe with 320000 miles on her. My son Alex and I enjoy driving this old girl everywhere. During the summer she pulls his boat to the Delaware River. I called you brother because I spent 6 years in US Army signal corp ( old school cell phones LOL ) but I got a carrier out of it, 43 years now in the communication industry. I may have to retire the old girl and move into a Jeep, I've owned two Jeeps so far. Thanks again brother and Thank you and your son for your service to our Country.

Since it appears the Mountain Overland Expo is cancelled this year, we are gearing up to go run a similar trip. Doing some additional Jeep mods now. Coming from east Texas though we are choosing to wheel a northwestern New Mexico trail or two on the way and then pull into Moab via northeast Arizona; after that it'll be off to Ouray. Awesome videos and great footage Brad.

Studied this video before hitting this trail today. I did it last year in a 2dr JL Sport S, and it has a 2” lift and 33s, and it was tough.
This year I’m in a 4de JLU Rubicon, same 33” tires but the standard 1” lift from the factory, and it was tougher.
At the 1 mile mark I saw a Park Ranger coming downhill. I asked about trail conditions. He told me the UTVs keep ripping the trails up more and more every year.
He was right. The three tough spots I remembered seemed worse than last year. Today was the first time I ever had to stack rocks.
I love this JLUR, but I really need to get 37s, a 3-4” lift, and 4.88 gearing. It’s my daily driver, yes. And I do a 7,000 mile tour every year, yes. But dang it I need to keep up with the Jones’!

Also, it's nice to have only ONE spotter who also knows the trails. It's a mess when you have 3 or 4 "spotters" all yelling conflicting instructions to the driver at once. One person yelling "Driver" while the person next to them is yelling "passenger" ! I hate that! lol

Son and I are fan's of you channel. He has a 2015 Rubicon JKU with 2.5 inch lift, mine is 2012 Rubicon 2 door 4 inch lift. I like the Ham Radio communication also, been one for years. Any of your guys know how to get the noise generated by the digital/led lights out of the radio. Lights were in the jeep when I bought it, think they are Roxim headlights and after market Nilight for the fog lights. Pretty much makes my 2 meter Yaesu 3200 DR and HF Yaesu 857 D radios useless when on. I have used ferrite beads/rf chokes no help. Been looking online but must admit not to hard, most things are about stereo, to loud for my ears stuff.
Very Cool to see you Jeeping with your son. My son 47 and I get out together some and dream of the day we get to do the trails you do. His wife wants us to take our Jeeps to Colorado next July for his mothers and mine 50 anniversary, so looking forward to that. Who knows might talk them into going farther.
Keep up the good work, great videos.

Hi Brad, Love your Vlog. You show the right mix of prep and trail content.
Two things that continue to peak my curiosity.
    1. I hear of how to improve everything on every kind of Jeep, from super chargers to chrome moly axels and driveshafts. However, I never hear about anything to strengthen or avoid damage to the JK or other Jeep transmissions . Are they indestructible or are they just the strongest link in the chain ? What about clutch issues on Jeeps with stick or cooling issues on automatics ?
    2. Could you tactfully address how you deal with the call of nature during extended trail rides ? Please share the equipment and tactics used when dealing with the change in diet, water and temperature as it relates to bodily functions.
Hope to meet you at Overland Expo this year. Thanks, Neil D.

The automatic W5A580 transmission that comes with the 3.6l motor is a solid transmission. I'm sure there are some folks out there that have had issues, but in general it is very reliable. In regards to Mother Nature, they sell foldable toilets seats and sanitary bags (pack it in, pack it out) that are a good option. Thanks!

Are you still running the poison spyder flares? Happy with them? Are those standard or narrow fronts. Absolutely love the look.

Brad, you got a knack with your camera. Are you sure you don’t work for National Geographic? BTW, how was the sway bar bent when it should’ve been removed?

    • @TrailRecon

Thank you! He had the electronic disconnect, but yes, best to remove them when you are running coilovers I think.

New subscriber here! Btw im so happy and excited to watch all your videos. All those different landscapes and challenging trails are so awesome and those jeeps all fully loaded and ready to rock everywhere. Thank you for making these kind of videos. More power to you sir!

Are any of these Jeeps with a 2.5" lift on 35s? This is awesome!

I learn so much from your videos. I’m headed to Moab in June and looking for a little advice. I’m in a ‘17 JK sport 4door. 3” lift on 35’s. No lockers. I want to have fun and some challenges but need to drive back to Florida when the fun is all done. Using by passes and some good common sense like you displayed on Hell’s Revenge. Are most of the trails doable? Also not knowing trails with limited experience is it wise to hire a guide/spotter? Thanks for all your videos.

I have the same question, 2021 Willys, 2.5 lift, 35's, lsd rear, no lockers. Can it handle poison spider?

Awesome content we are planning to hit up this trail this year! Just to confirm, it is bidirectional trail so You can go back down the way you came up correct? Can’t wait to go!

You'll love it! Yes, Poison Spider can be run in both directions.

Is Poison spider doable in a crew cab silverado on six inch lift with 35s.

Great video! This one is on my bucket list for sure, but I always seem to be solo in Moab without a spotter so I haven't done it yet.

My wife and I finally bit the bullet and bought a Jeep. Enjoying every minute of it.
Have been watching your channel and the trails you showcase are now on our Bucket List as well. Hopefully in a year or two, we will be blazing the trials with other Jeep enthusiasts.
Question though. What do you mean with you say "High Clearance"? I use my Jeep for daily travel and would like to set it up properly for the "weekend warrior" scenarios. Is there a recommended lift/tire combo you could recommend?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @TrailRecon
      @TrailRecon  4 года назад

Congrats on the new Jeep! Clearance is relative, but Jeeps typically have more clearance than other stock 4 wheel drive vehicles.... a 4x4 Ford Explorer would not be considered high clearance without a lift.

I'm curious what size lifts and tires you guys use. I'm planning on running some of these trails out west next summer and my '97 ranger is on 6" of lift but only 33" tires, wondering if I need to bump up to 35"
