VERY impressed with the lil' HT-5. It was just so clear and natural sounding. I'm a bit confused the HT-5 worked and the HT-20 didn't though... from what I've heard, the HT-20 has everything the 5 has and more. Rob, can you enlighten us on the main differences between the 20 and the 5?
Rob, I didn't understand the part where you were saying you didnt need the Satchurator to overdrive the Blackstar HT-5 as compared to the Jet City 333. Was it because you could attain a rich enough power amp saturation by turning the 5W amp, which you were unable to do with the 20W amp without hurting your ears?
What Ibanez was that? Looks like a RG550 or 350. If you cant find a used RG550 i highly reccomend you get an S series instead because the edge III trem in the 350 is horrible.
I genuinely feel like if Joe picked up that guitar and sat down there that day it would sound precisely like how he'd want it. Mind you he'd tweak his satchurator the way he styles it but I think honestly that this is incredibly accurate! Nice work!
Absolute Balls! Im sorry to rant but i have been using a solid state Peavey Bandit for over 10 years and i have captured every sound i could possibly wish for! People dont think you have to spend anything close to a £1000 on an amp and pedals to get the general sound of your favourite players.
no ur badly mistaken. G's are gio's. and gio's mark them so with very cheap inlays/smaller body/ cheap neck plus a gio logo at the top of the headstock above the Ibanez logo.
The tone comes from you fantastic playing. I think you'd even sound like Satriana if you'd play through a Marshall MS-2. Still an awesome tone for under 1000 bucks!
Sure your not gonna capture the energy or feel of an artists live sound, that does come down to Cabs/ mic'ing/ Venue size etc, but for small gigs and recording you certainly dont have to think MONEY/ VALUE! My signature sound over the last 4 months or so has been a Biyang X-DRIVE OD-8 (£40) Overdrive pedal into the clean channel of a Peavey Bandit 112, with a £40 Biyang Analogue delay pedal in the loop, i couldnt ask for anything more!
@RobChappers you couldve just introduced people to vox tonelab ST (some kind of presets pedals) where it has this preset sound for Satch Boogie. The tonelab ST has thousands of sounds and costs about $100. Probably a better choice for musicians trying not to buy thousands of single-pedals (which could cost up to $100 each).
@MrGamingGuitarist Paul's tone is not so much about the amp or the equipment as it is about his picking technique. Try getting an EL34 equipped amp, roll off the gain a bit more than you're normally comfortable with and pick harder to make up for the lost gain. A guitar with medium-output pickups helps too.
kramer striker 211 FR/ kramer pacer classic (charvels are a bit expensive for under 1000 bucks, but kramer is a very traditional widdlestick brand too)+ peavey 6505 112 combo + some phaser pedal = the perfect 80's floyd shred higain EVH set. hope that helps.
Bellamy's main sound comes from Marshall amps - so look at thier budget range combos, should get you close. A multi-effects unit like the BOSS GT-10 should get you fairly close. Besides his signature model by Manson guitars, he uses Gibsons mainly (or did), so maybe try some Epiphones out? Just my 2 cents :)
@Da85Man if you wanna sound like AC/DC then plug streight into a valve amp and crank it. That's what Young does. I use a handsome devlive by blackheart and just up the drive so I can nail his tine at low volume
Van Halen under 1000, after all parts for his franenstrat were under $200, but the amp is interesting quest... Maybe Peavey 6505+ 112 combo... Just a tought.
@cmstricker67 Its called buy an evh 5150 iii and a wolfgang if you could afford it... if not wait for fender to come out with a mini stack 5150 and then get a sterling axis.
Can the next one be "How to look like Chappers for under £25"? But we need to decide on the particular 'era'. Short Hair, Heavy Beard, 'Black Hand' Vintage Chappers? Or the more modern light beard, long hair and 50's Yorkshire Housewife hair attire?
@RobChappers I May be able to help my friend! get a 24 fret guitar made of ALDER! install some dimarzio EVOLUTIONS and get an Ibanez JEMINI PEDAL and use pretty much any amp with a good clean sound and use the red channel on the jemini pedal. I dont have any sound clips because my friend has all thr equipment listed above. he has evolutions installed in a 24 fret maple fingerboard KRAMER and he plugs it through a crate solidstate amp and it sounds like vai in erotic nightmares. Cheers Rob.
i always prefered the ht1 to the ht5. ht1 is my fav blackstar tone wise, and everyone thinks i'm strange cause of that, lol. my bedroom amp, but when it comes down to main amps i will never use anything else than my trusty old engl blackmore :D
If it's a GRG, it would say "GIO" on the headstock in fairly big letters. It'd also sound slightly cheaper and go out of tune if Rob even looked at it funny.
@insidegoodoutsidebad Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3 or 4 and a suitable guitar. Well, an amp simulator plugin is cheating, but does do the job of 'sounding like Vai under 1000'.
that does sound alot like satriani from the flying in a blue dream album, i thought if you wanted to sound like him you would have gone through a jsx or a marshall
Love your playing and your videos, Chappers, but I dare say your playing is a bit TOO precise and pristine to really sound like Satch. Obviously he's very precise and a total master, but he's just SO bluesy, that you can't really separate his sound from the old "just go for it" ethos of blues guitar playing... IMO:) Great video either way, and please keep 'em coming:D
I've listened to a ton of Satch and that tone didn't remind me of him at all.
i LOVE these "sound like" videos. Hope you keep bringing us more of these videos :D
I've been waiting for this vid!
Rob, I didn't understand the part where you were saying you didnt need the Satchurator to overdrive the Blackstar HT-5 as compared to the Jet City 333. Was it because you could attain a rich enough power amp saturation by turning the 5W amp, which you were unable to do with the 20W amp without hurting your ears?
there really is nothing like satch's tone but you nailed it rob. His marshall totting days of the late 1990's was and is my favorite lead tone
I'm gonna be honest, I didn't think the Jet City amp pulled this tone off very well.
hey rob, when playing the intro to satch boogie, did you use hybrid picking??
Hey Rob, I'm looking for a wah with a wide sweep and a boost for solos, did you like the sounds of this wah? Or could suggest another? :)
what guitar is that? it looks really nice ;D
Rob is/was that a RG370 DX you used? I have one and I love it :)
What Ibanez was that? Looks like a RG550 or 350. If you cant find a used RG550 i highly reccomend you get an S series instead because the edge III trem in the 350 is horrible.
awesome satch-ness ! but why didnt you use a js100 or 1000 ibanez rob??????
I genuinely feel like if Joe picked up that guitar and sat down there that day it would sound precisely like how he'd want it. Mind you he'd tweak his satchurator the way he styles it but I think honestly that this is incredibly accurate! Nice work!
How about sound like Mr.Holdsworth, could you do one of him ???
Was not expecting the reverb pedal to sound that beautiful.
Absolute Balls! Im sorry to rant but i have been using a solid state Peavey Bandit for over 10 years and i have captured every sound i could possibly wish for! People dont think you have to spend anything close to a £1000 on an amp and pedals to get the general sound of your favourite players.
Sound like Zappa for under 1000?
@MrGamingGuitarist ha ha.. I don't know man, I really can't play any Paul Gilbert or Vai... ;-)
no ur badly mistaken. G's are gio's. and gio's mark them so with very cheap inlays/smaller body/ cheap neck plus a gio logo at the top of the headstock above the Ibanez logo.
Terrific. Nice work.
@RobChappers is it because u don't like paul gilbert and steve vai? Cuz some steve vai songs are like joe satriani songs. About the same difficulty!
i don't know why i didn't mention the blackstar first :L
The tone comes from you fantastic playing. I think you'd even sound like Satriana if you'd play through a Marshall MS-2. Still an awesome tone for under 1000 bucks!
WOW
I've never heard anybody get a decent satch tone before, but at 4:31 he nails it!
Why didn't the blackstar HT-20 work for Satch tones? I'm between buying the HT-20 or the H-5 but haven't tried out the HT-20 yet...
Sure your not gonna capture the energy or feel of an artists live sound, that does come down to Cabs/ mic'ing/ Venue size etc, but for small gigs and recording you certainly dont have to think MONEY/ VALUE!

@Tubachin his sig. amp is a 5150 so u might be able to work with that
does the skills come with the guitar too?
@MrGamingGuitarist Paul's tone is not so much about the amp or the equipment as it is about his picking technique. Try getting an EL34 equipped amp, roll off the gain a bit more than you're normally comfortable with and pick harder to make up for the lost gain. A guitar with medium-output pickups helps too.

@theboywhocantollie Me to mate, see you there! ;-)
Hmmm.. Perhaps Satch should switch to using the JCA100H with his Satchurator pedal.. I think so.. JCA rocks!!
You guys didn't choose the JSX Mini Colossal?
Great tone Chappers, could do with some delay though...
To get the old sound of Satch you cab use a DS-1 its more cheaper than the satchurator !
how much are the pedals you used (the WA-WA and that) ????
Try rigging in a BOSS DS-1 with any amp set to clean. Retails for about $ 39.
chappers, could you do a sounds like dime? but with out using a dean??
@Da85Man if you wanna sound like AC/DC then plug streight into a valve amp and crank it. That's what Young does. I use a handsome devlive by blackheart and just up the drive so I can nail his tine at low volume
Wow, I didn't think the first amp sounded much like Satch (and the Satchurator turns me off, I got rid of mine) but that black star nailed it!
Chappers I think a George Lnych or Maybe a Steve Vai episode would be awesome
thanks mate!
why havent you make any new ones really this vids are amazing
no sir, fender jagstang, ds-2 and a small clone with a mesa boogie and a power amp.
Can you make a how to sound like Gus G video? using his sig guitar and a blackstar amp of some sort?
@AlexWolfking already done. orange crush 12 watt and a eppiphone g400/ 1960s reissue sg also eppiphone
Spastic chimp??! Where the hell did you get that one from?!
@TravelMates93 It's a 370dx
What would be better for a Rush; Alex Lifeson sound? Jet City or Blackstar?
Van Halen under 1000, after all parts for his franenstrat were under $200, but the amp is interesting quest... Maybe Peavey 6505+ 112 combo... Just a tought.
@cmstricker67 Its called buy an evh 5150 iii and a wolfgang if you could afford it... if not wait for fender to come out with a mini stack 5150 and then get a sterling axis.
good to see you fondeling an ibanez. \m/
And I had the Satchurator pedal and it didn't work for me. But twas my amp and my guitar was not very Satch-y too.
hey chappers, do you think you can make a video about how to sound like Jeff Loomis?
Can the next one be "How to look like Chappers for under £25"? But we need to decide on the particular 'era'. Short Hair, Heavy Beard, 'Black Hand' Vintage Chappers? Or the more modern light beard, long hair and 50's Yorkshire Housewife hair attire?
Gilmour will be tough to cover for under a thousand..that guy's got some crazy tones up his sleeve..
i had the pleasure of meeting satch. really cool guy
@RobChappers I May be able to help my friend! get a 24 fret guitar made of ALDER! install some dimarzio EVOLUTIONS and get an Ibanez JEMINI PEDAL and use pretty much any amp with a good clean sound and use the red channel on the jemini pedal. Where is that euros sign on keyboard?
@ghn05 agree can you make a how to sound like early vh, or how to get really thick reverb without sounding like your a mile away from the microphone
Much closer than the other crew from Andertons that tried this...add in his time machine delay pedal and you'll have an even closer emulation.
@MoneyPieBoy
I'm with you, Timmons sounds just incredibly vivid
If it's a GRG, it would say "GIO" on the headstock in fairly big letters.
It'd also sound slightly cheaper and go out of tune if Rob even looked at it funny.
Can't believe I have to watch an advert before a video which is essentially an advert...
so the blackstar HT 5 works but the HT 20 doesnt?
I'm trying to get this amazing amp, unfortunetly it;s not available in my country.
Cheap and stunning
Where's Cap'n?
@MattPurkis what!! thats awsome! hes got some famous guy supporting him this time as well, cant remember who it is though..might be a nice suprise :D
Hey rob! u should do a "Sound like Megadeth guitar/amp for under 1000 pounds"
Just a suggestion. :D
can we see the settings you used for the combo, and the pedals?
This video is 6 years old m8
Didnt Satch switch over to marshall?
Do you think you can make a How to sound like van hallen video???
what about play like chappers for under £1000?
@13isaacz1 Theres a cream for that, but it only comes guitars with binding sadly.
You should do one about getting Matt Pike or Tony Iommi Tones for under 1000
i use marshall jvm210h and mxr overdrive and js1000 and that for me gets the ultimate satch tone
I have a satchurator into Roland GR55 amp modeling and playing a JS1000WH with FRED pickup. Now that sounds like satch. ALOT
Sounds pretty close to me!! Not bad for under a grand!
Santana tone ?
What? No Satch-Scream? Mr. Rob, you gotta do it at least once D:
But great Satch sound, super sweet sounding.
no amp?
could you do a video like this for page hendrix and young with the same gear maybe diffrent pedals
im seeing the man himself in bristol in october!! cant wait!
james hetfield for under a 1000! we metalheads need this!
santana for under 1000?
@insidegoodoutsidebad Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3 or 4 and a suitable guitar. Well, an amp simulator plugin is cheating, but does do the job of 'sounding like Vai under 1000'.
from the start up menu of youtube it says "Sound Like Satriani for under £1"
i was so friggin exited. D:
You guys should do one for "Sound Like Eddie Van Halen"! please :)
no, i think its a rg370dx
i have that blackstar! what are the knobs like?
twisty
could you do a how to sound like mark tremonti video? :)
how about eric johnson for under a grand???
that does sound alot like satriani from the flying in a blue dream album, i thought if you wanted to sound like him you would have gone through a jsx or a marshall
could you please please please do this for jimmy pages tone?!
Love your playing and your videos, Chappers, but I dare say your playing is a bit TOO precise and pristine to really sound like Satch. Great video either way, and please keep 'em coming:D
how about angus young for under 1000?
Chappers, Make a sound like Hetfield or a sound like Jerry Cantrell? or a Mark tremonti... if you do, i might start saving for a ghost fret...
