"Buy a copy of his guitar and amp" Damn, I wish I'd thought of that.
It’s still hard to replicate
Yeah, could have sworn the whole thing was no signatures since its too easy
Yeah but there is no other way to get a red special
You have to do the Brian May BY busting the bank. The high end BM replica red special, the BM signature AC30 (at least 2 of them!), his treble booster, stereo delay and you have to shoot it somewhere you can crank the amp to full and blast away (various youtube vids and websites will show you the right pickup settings for each song by the way!). EVERYONE would watch it.
Hell yeah
Can you share some links? I still can't find links where people even get close. I know it's a simple set up (and loud as hell), but I'd still like to hear someone figure it out lol.
He used two delayed signals, one on left and one on rights, with the dry going in the middle, so you'd need a multiple of 3.
andertons don't have the signature AC30 but i know they should use
Brian May Red Special
Fender Telecaster (just for the solo in Crazy Little Thing Called Love)
Hand Wired Vox AC30
Hudson Electronics Gospel Bomb Treble Booster
Boss PS6 Harmonist (for all of his harmonized guitar parts)
Walrus Audio Julia Chorus (for Under Pressure)
TC Electronic Flashback Delay (for Brighton Rock)
Dunlop Cry Baby Wah (for the live version of the I Want To Break Free solo)
and matt should get a Fender P Bass and a Musicman Stingray to do some John Deacon
@@WOHBuckeye Search for Brian May Tribute, he's really close to Brian
Why didn't you use a coin for a plectrum ??? this is a key component of the sound !
Brian doesnt use just any old coin. He uses a sixpence. Not easy to come by unless you're lucky enough to find a good one online.
@@markgowans Not really. You can find plenty online for under $10 dollars.
Yeah I got a whole bag of them from eBay very cheap.
@@markgowans I have a bunch of sixpence laying around
Good point even if you didn’t use a coin I suppose a metal pick May have the same effect.
Brian may is really inspiring, he built his own guitar and still doesn't use a branded guitar and he uses a coin as a pick
He does. In studio or sometimes a small little show he would do. Either a strat or his sg with etuners
I've never clicked on something so fast before
same!
Same.
Jacob Reece Ha! Same 😁
Jacob Reece same
Yep. Same.
Sound like Eric Clapton by busting
Person I'd be busting if they Clapton
Rebeas afro is his hearing protection
Lmaoo
PFF His personal force field.
Brian may is so criminally underrated
Yeah, over 150 million albums sold, criminally underrated...
@@PeteWizzle as a musician he's not underrated at all but as a guitarist he is really underrated...
Underrated by who(or it whom?) I've never heard or read anything that decries him.
@@kingstumble, it seems fashionable to call cemented guitar gods, "underrated". Brian May, Mark Knopfler etc. I don't know how anyone thinks that these guys, who are worshipped by guitarists and music lovers all over the world, are underrated.
@@PeteWizzle exactly...people nowadays sees everything as underrated for fuck sake.

One vision is from the album "A kind of magic" from the year 1986!
Agent 313 It's on both.
I've been waiting for this forever! Thanks
You rock!
I reallly wanna see sounds like bucket head WITH busting the bank
They are gonna have to mod a guitar unless they manage to find a buckethead sig, but finding a real one is about as rare as a blue moon
@@TetrisShark70 they just need to mute the neck pickup on a Les Paul for the killswitch
@@bxbbybrxh yeah but it won't sound like Buckethead
Who's going to wear the bucket & Mask though ;) I think they would suit Matt better.
@@markgowans rabea(i think that's how it's spelled) has the frizzy hair that'll stick out from the bucket.
Smashing pumpkins, THE STONE ROSES, Stone temple pilots, mother love bone, WEEZER
james Baggins weezer absolutely
Jonny Greenwood and Ed O'brien from radiohead???
it's confirmed they're doing it...
i think they'll go with
Fender Modern Player Telecaster
Fender Champion 40
Pro Co Rat Overdrive
Strymon Mobius
Boss CS3
and Digitech Whammy
William Allison accurate!
Proco RAT? I thought it was the *Turbo RAT* that was the sound of Radiohead (confirmed on multiple recordings), which by busting the bank the most expensive version Anderton's sells is the Fuzzrocious Cat King, or for without busting the bank, the Mooer Black Secret is an excellent Turbo RAT clone for £42.
actually im sure that jonny uses a marshal distortion(not sure on what type)
We did it boys
Hmm to be honest I do not think this recreates that magic sound that Brian May's sound has... And you guys forgot the coin to use as a pick! Omg
Ezra ive played with a coin for years just because of May and im also super bummed they didnt do that
Sounded to muddy to me.
May's tone has so much more bite - don't know if it's the coin he uses, or putting pickups out of phase, or if it's just in his hands. Crazy Little Thing Called Love should have been on a Tele. Needs a re-do.
The funny thing is that my digital combo amp (Vox VT120+) had a Brian May preset which actually sounds more like him than this! 😶
There's some differences they didn't address. May uses vintage AC30's which have no bright cap. Newer AC models built a treble boost in. Top Boost.
Rabea: "we're using ear protection!"
*Proceeds to not use ear protection for half the video*
Well you tried
His afro is his protection
@@andrewpappas9311 ikr
I bought this very same guitar over 15 years ago from Andertons. Got one of the first 500 ever released. Still my favourite guitar to play. It plays so well and just sings!!!
You should have used the Sixpence-Coin.
It's a shilling (or an old 5 pence piece), a sixpence would be far too small (the size of a new 5 pence piece).
+TeaDaemon B.M uses a sixpence
I've found conflicting information, both from primary sources (Brian May himself and his guitar tech), BM in one interview shows a sixpence, but his guitar tech in another interview shows a shilling. BM also states that a dime or quarter would work as well. The two coins are almost identical (both made from cupronickel alloy and about the same thickness), the only difference is the diameter - a sixpence is 3/4", a shilling 1".
There is a Brian May Guitar Super that sells for £2,950.00 if you wanna make a By Busting the Bank version.
Dennis de Ramos Andertons don't stock it.
no place does, its pre-sold and made to order pretty much
Dennis de Ramos way too much for what it is
@@cessrcd its a custom made guitar and you would probably pay a whole lot more for a custom gibson or fender
HimTortons define...exactly, what you mean by custom made?
Been waiting so so long for this!
The hair and skinny frame also added to the 'May sound',nice work Rabea!
How to sound like Cream and The Who please
Eric claptoon was done! but they should revisit him BY busting the bank cos the strat wasn't black so it can't be blackie
I mean only cream stuff , like with a sg or les Paul and bluesbreaker
Gibson-style guitar with humbuckers. Neck pickup, tone on 0 - 2.
Tube amp with overdrive.
It's actually pretty easy: any 100W Marshall "plexi" (1959HW reissue, for example) with a Marshall 4x12 cab, a Vox V847 wah, and a Gibson (Les Paul, Firebird, or 335). Settings: all on 10; you control on the guitar. You might want a vintage mic if you are recording, but that's it.
How about a new Sounds Like Dorje Without Busting The Bank? There's a way old video on Rob's Channel but with the new Chapman guitar line up it'd be cool to see how to sound like Rob and Bea on a budget.
Honestly one of your best sounding rigs. Well done!!
these videos are great. Keep them coming. For an idea EACH OF YOU CREATE YOUR OWN SOUND.
The who please
You mean Pete Townshend.
And Entwistle bass sounds too
taggle waggle Sadly the Ox is the only person who will ever sound like the Ox
Totally should do this one
They did it. Used a strat and FAILED
wEEEEzer
My wife plays guitar too and I built a custom strat type guitar for her as a birthday present. It's a lefty strat with the Brian May switching options and she was so impressed with it.
Very underappreciated guitarist when people talk about great guitarists from the 70's and 80's. Such a wide range of styles and has great vibrato.
"It's like a grey sandwich with blue bread" - Matt 2017 😂
VERY GOOD !!! Sometimes it gets tricky with the settings and other sound changes...
A SOUNDS LIKE DEEP PURPLE would be cool (trinity of hard rock: deep purple, led zeppelin, black sabbath)
One of you should be doing the sound of today (morse), the other one the sound from the 70s and 80s (blackmore)
@@niklase5121 What about Tommy Bolin? Although when speaking about Deep Purple it has to be Blackmore. Andertons even have a Blackmore Strat in the store according to their website anyway. Doing a modern version with Steve Morse would be really difficult since Andertons dont appear to stock his signature model guitars which I've always found really weird. They should also not play Smoke on the water since its the easiest tune in the world to learn.
I was just waiting for this one for so long!!!
i love that the Rory Gallagher Fender custom shop is hanging behind you in the first shots, and he's the main inspiration for Brian's tone. Serendipitous indeed.
You guys did great! I've been waiting for this for a while! Sorry to "pick" put small things, but you should've used a coin to pick, a six pence is possible but not necessary, that's what Brian used and the last song, One Vision was released on A Kind Of Magic first.
nL Prodigy actually one vision was a soundtrack song from a naff 80's action film Iron Eagle and was then put on the Magic album as a filler
Sound like DREAM THEATER PLEASE IVE ASKED FOR SO LONG!!!!!!!!!!!! \m/
I can get on board with this.
123 now that will have to be a by busting episode
123 I want both them and avenged sevenfold
Poor Rabea....he was worried enough trying to emulate Brian May's style, and now you want him to go the full Petrucci. (Granted....it would be totes awesome.)
You sir have won my vote.
But I dunno how achievable John's sound'd be on a budget like theirs... I'm sure they'd figure it out
Excellent job, guys! Love Queen and Brian May.
Finally I have been waiting for this for tooo freaking Long
"Iron Eagle" album? Are you serious?! WTF?! "A Kind Of Magic", 1986! That's what it was!
Not only that, but they actually couldn`t capture even 1/10 of Brian May`s tone. Totally fucked up We will rock you with tons of mud in the sound. One vision riff souned as if it was played by SRV.
Actually technically they're correct the movie Iron Eagle used the single version of One Vision and that soundtrack was released in Jan 1986, (single released in Nov 1985 by the band) The Kind of Magic album had the album version and that wasn't released until June 1986 - UK dates.
@@user-lx3dn9bt9e oof i agree i think when they heard go full blast they thought that meant everything, part of brians tone comes from him messing with the volume on the guitar, they also went the wrong direction and made the treble booster useless but turning the bass and mid up as well. His tone also focuses on sustain and clarity which is difficult to achieve. The only thing they got right was the guitar and amp, the rest sounded like those memes of people playing other genres as metal. Theres videos out there by the man himself talking about how he does it and its well documented about what he uses too. The only thing i got out of this video was that the repro red specials are actually in my price range and i now might make a bad decision.
Great job guys! Personally I think the first three Queen albums are essential listening for any rock or metal guitarist.
Sound like Rise Against without breaking the bank! Love these videos btw
FINALLY! THANK YOU so much for doing this one! AHHHH!
No bohemian rhapsody?
Jaagg denied!
John O'Dwyer considering the way they do these demos, it would've taken too long to learn Bo Rhap.
Luke Mcfarlane copyright reasons I’m guessing
You mean "No God saves the Queen?"
the guitar in rhapsody is actually only around 1-2ish minutes all together so i cant see how they couldn't
Sound like B.B. King/ Chuck Berry - They are the reason that everyone you've done so far sound how they do !!
Blues Rock Guitar Club I think they did one for BB King
played some Queen while on my way to work, and this pop up on my youtube feeds. yay!
By busting the bank Brian May
Do a sound like Steve Vai without busting the bank!
get a JEM and a Carvin or Mesa Boogie or a Marshall amp.
Kristof Liszkai oh yeah!
And so the bank was busted.
This is kind of an easy one though dont you think. Especially since the guy has signature for every piece of equipment imaginable. And if you cant afford the good stuff its just an Ibanez RG, Marshall 40C, his distortion pedal, and delay.
Ibanez Jem JR - £378
Marshall DSL40C - £500
Dunlop Cry Baby Wah - £90
Boss DD3 - £115
MXR Analog Chorus - £100
Digitech Whammy V - £158
Boss DS1 - £50
total - £1391
Sound like Brian Setzer
That Brighton Rock impression is beautiful! Well done Rabea!
Awesome! This is great !
Jimi Hendrix by busting the bank please !
Clément Romieu they already did it
Luca Franchi not by busting the bank
Clément Romieu Marshall Superlead everything @ 10 through 4x12 greenback cab, Fuzzface and dunlop wah in front of the amp, Fender Stratocaster in hands. Done
cause you really dont need to. If anything youre getting a better amp than the one they used before
Why do people feel the need to answer people's requests in the comments lol. People want to see a video, not read someone's opinion on the internet lol
do Flea or Cliff!
Yeah i would love to see some bass rigs, possibly with a proper bass player.
If they ever do a bass sounds like, they'd have to get somebody that actually plays bass on the show.
They'd need a coach for Cliff...
Hell yeah, man! Brian is such an amazing guitarist and that Red Special is honestly a really nice-looking guitar... I wish I could build something that iconic
be good to see this with the super budget version and what guitar you end up using... as always though, brilliant video!
If you want to bust the bank - Andertons should order in one of those gorgeous Red Special copies that Brian May himself has had made.
Sound like Megadeth rust in peace era
Wow! Love your channel! What I would recommend for the Brian May style (AC30 + Boost) Sound is the ”Galileo“ by Catalinbread. I‘m more a fan of the larger version, it‘s really a shame that they stopped making it. The smaller version sounds also stunning but the larger one is way more versatile...
Anyway, great video!
been waiting to long for this.
Crazy little thing called love is on a tele, you didn't use a Pence, and one vision is on A Kind Of Magic.
Nicholas Montalti that tele was just used for the video.
this is "sound like brian may" not "be brian may".
Neale Scott it was used on the record as well and in live performances
No, it wasn't. According to Brian, to his chagrin, they "made" him use a Telecaster on the record: ruclips.net/video/_gSuF01Ponk/видео.html
One vision is on the Iron Eagle soundtrack, as well as A Kind Of Magic.
It's time for Ritchie Blackmore
The Stig yep
Which Blackmore? Purple Blackmore or Rainbow Blackmore? or perhaps Blackmore's Knight Blackmore?
cubistone I'd prefer Rainbow but if they can get Machine Head and Rising tones out of the same rig that would be awesome.
The Stig yup Purple of 'Made in Japan' + Rainbow of 'Stranger In Us All' = Strat tones of the highest order
Fantastic job 👏
great series
Sound like the who, the cure and mick ronson
No Van Halen?
quiksilver78 Brown sound with no mids? Blasphemy.
If they do Van Halen I hope they do his old sound rather than his 90s onward type sound.
EVH is all mids man. Cutting mids just won't work works in a live situation because the guitar is a midrange instrument.
The sad reality is that I really could not tell if it was a joke or not. People don't realize that too much gain and cutting mids is actually a terrible practice when you play live.
See, there are a ton of metal "bros" who go out and buy a MetalZone, a 6505, and an EQ, and try to gig with the amp's mids all the way down, and the EQ's mids all the way down, with the amp gain way up and the MetalZone on, but you can't hear them at all in a mix (I've done sound work every once in a while), and they have to turn up louder starting a volume war. You try to tell them to crank those mids back up and kill the MetalZone, and then they bitch about their tone, their decisions.
Awesome!
You guys are great!
Come on Bea,you could have built your own Guitar for this dude!!!!
Sound like Boston first 2 albums
Tr3y yes please!!
By far my favorite!
AWESOME!!!
Sound like DEATH! (R.I.P Chuck)
Nile Rodgers of Chic pls
Strat into the desk. Done.
You are spot on with his tone. 👍🏿👍🏿
For anyone who is wanting to achieve the key Brian May tones, I'd suggest searching "Amplitude - Brian May". It's Cheap and its also home-friendly!
Or if you're lucky enough to stumble across one of the Digitech Brian May pedals, I would recommend them too!
Do a sound like buckethead but u have to wear a KFC bucket lol
Missed Stone Cold Crazy, Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody...
Great job. Was really hoping to hear Rab do the I was born to love you solo.
Oh hell yeah, love this!
Do Pete Townshend next!!!
Sound like Coheed and Cambria please!
isshinryukid yes please!!
This was a fun listen! Cool to do this on the 31st anniversary of Queen's show at Wembley in 1986! (July 12, 1986).
Well done for that!!
Sounded really good !
The Crazy Little Thing Called Love solo sounded great on your video, but Brian didn't actually use his Red Special for that solo.
He does live. He uses a semi-hollow replica made by British luthier Andrew Guyton. He did use his original for the main solo a few times (watch the 'Return Of The Champions' version)
@@jackdixon29jd he always used the black tele for the solo live before freddie died and would usually switch to the red special for the improvised ending solo.
Sounds like Nuno Bettencourt :)
Great job
I love Brian May's playing, you guys did a great job.
Do a sound like for Mick Ronson!
2:13 rob scallons guitar can be seen in the background
That was great guys... Sound Like Clutch please!!
Great video guys. Brian May , at least in my eyes, will always be the greatest guitar player of all time, and it was such a pleasure watching you guys trying to sound like my biggest guitar hero. Thank you so much for doing this. Cheers from Canada
Those ear plugs work better when they're in your ears, Bea.
Just sayin', man.
Sound like Tame Impala
Tema Stratocasterov the pedal board wouldn't fit in the room
Tema Stratocasterov YES PLEASE
they can make Sound Like in 3 parts!
I can't wait for them to pathetically butcher it
Awesome!!!
Please, do a Funky sound without busting a bank!
Thanks for this. Was considering grabbing a screaming bird as its the only cheap treble boost. But after both reactions and saying it got you nowhere close has saved me some coin.
Rammstein PLZ
Sound like Nile Rogers?
About a 50/50 on this one. First of all you need the coin! We Will Rock You was way too muddy...but Tie Your Mother Down & Crazy Little Thing were real close for an affordable rig. Love you guys...always entertaining.
I defiantly want one of these.
Do Prince tone gods
Do a "By Busting The Bank" for brian but get a Brian May Guitars Super in to do the video, 2-3k right there!
This was brilliant lads
Nice work.
