- A short instructional video showing how I have learned to mix and pour aircrete. I wanted to show a more detailed step by step guide with live mixing to really highlight some of the things I have learned with my online research.
I have an idea, I am to old to start a new venture, but someone out there may want to pursue this idea. I would like to build aircrete logs. Based on the toys we all played with when we were kids, Lincoln logs. These could be pre-manufactured so really almost anyone could buy the logs and construct a building. There would need to be different lengths made say like 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 feet etc. There would need to be some that had special ends with channels for doors and windows. There could be some that are pre wired with wall outlet boxes and switches. Logs could be pre-colored or surfaced in some cases. A building could be constructed permanently by bonding the logs together, or could be temporary and disassembled and moved. I think this could be an amazing new business that could revolutionize small buildings. And it would allow for any person to DIY.
Unless one wanted to do it for aesthetics, it would be too much extra work over what is shown in the video.....3 sided post with a round side like a square log house...? chinking a cement log? too much work....just saying

Thank you for sharing. It’s a nice consistent mix you are making. My mix looks about the same but I am not adding any sand. I use a double paddle mixer which makes a well blended mix in about 7 - 10 minutes per 90 liter batch.

Yeah i agree. I can see why people are easily discouraged after a few failed attempts. Fortunately for me im stubborn as hell and determined to get things right.
@@k0fcalifornia We were pretty determined too and gave aircrete a good try. We made some successful batches, but once it started getting cold last fall, none of them turned out any good. We didn't want to wait until spring, so we went with a more conventional build, which ended up being cheaper anyway.

One issue I've seen but I had the same problem... it's with the drop you then add too much foam for the proper mix from domegaia or elosha lenoff, but everyone wants to mix strong aircrete, not soft insulation. I find it works well with extra foam and cement... also type 3 sets up faster with less water, it almost sets to fast to mix... next I was looking into temperature, too cold and it will fall before it sets, so I was looking in to heated molds vs warm water.... plus no well water!... hard water is very bad for foam!... another thing I'd like to try is superplastisizers and setting agents.

Amigo puedes usar solo cemento pero es más costoso usa 1 de cemento por 1 de arena y agua al gusto que quede durita le agregas espuma según quieras la densidad
Pesa 1litro de la mezcla de cemento y arena y luego pesa 1 litro ya con espuma y deberías de escoger cuandi con espuma te pese unos 620 grs a 700

not sure if your finished product is 2x8 I am guessing, or the whole panel, what does it weigh per square foot? assuming those are 2x4 metal studs? I am seriously considering this for a greenhouse build in the future.

While making chiffon and sponge cakes with beaten eggs whites, one tries to fold in the air foam egg whites carefully without breaking the bubbles. One technique is to thoroughly mix a bit of fluffy foamy eggs white in thoroughly and then to more carefully fold in the rest. I wonder if that would work for cement. It needs to be mixed thoroughly for consistency and strength, but you want to preserve the bubble loft as much as possible. .......mmmm, interesting you are saying it "grows" so that means some kind of chemical reaction keeps it bubbling more so it isn't quite like sponge cake batter, although that uses baking powder, too, so I suppose it is. No wonder it works, though.

do you have a per panel weight on this material? Have you done any actual compression testing of the aircrete? Not sure if this has been asked and answered, but what is the purpose behind your work in the Philippines - especially around contruction?

A lot of really good info here! I had to come up with a different mix for my area, for whatever reason DomeGaias formulation just wouldn't work for me, always resulted in collapse.

What are the size of those panels? How many panels do you make with that formula?
In the background, I notice that you are applying the aircrete you are producing. Are you doing this in the Philippines?
I have built several interior and exterior walls using the following mix design placed in slip forms and block forms.
2:1 Cement:Water Slurry Mix: 25 kg cement slowly added while mixing into 12 liters of potable water in a smooth bottom 100 liter plastic barrel or trash can. Mix very well so that you have no clumps or settlement on the bottom. This is a critical step. Check to make sure it is blended. You will have failure if it isn’t blended completely. I use a Klutch Double Auger Mortar Mixer. It is variable speed. A concrete mixer doesn’t rotate fast enough to properly blend the slurry. I have tried this method and failed. Use a mortar mixer.
Foam Mix: 1 liter of dish detergent (the right one varies by country) in 12 to 15 liters of potable water depending on the detergent quality. It will take experimentation to find the right local detergent that yields long lasting, small bubble suds at 90 - 100 grams/liter. In Mexico I use the brand Eficaz. Dawn also works great but is over 3 times as expensive. Axiom didn’t work. Salvo didn’t work. Mix detergent into water slowly by hand using a pvc pipe or broom handle taking care to not create bubbles.
Aircrete Mix: Slowly add approximately 80 liters of aerated foam bubble mix to the bottom of the barrel over 3-5 minutes while mixing to make approximately 90 liters of aircrete. I add the foam right between the augers to get it blended rapidly. You can add less foam to make a stronger mix with a lower insulation factor (R value) or more foam to make a weaker mix with a higher R value depending on the intended use. I use less foam for ceiling panels so I can walk on the roof. I use more foam for an interior wall with studs.

You can use an interior steel reinforcement like WWF, chicken wire or other animal fencing to add tensile strength and reduce cracking. I also use a fiberglass mesh on the surface to stop cracking, spalling and add tensile strength. You must do a stucco or other finish to weatherproof exterior surfaces. Aircrete is not waterproof! It will weather and disintegrate if left exposed to rain. I use gypsum board on interior walls as well as a finish to hide cracks and provide a durable surface.

@@roek7630 Sand is only a filler. In general the higher the mix density the higher the strength because mix density is typically a function of the cement:water ratio. Sand will add minimal strength and will likely settle to bottom of the mixing barrel. If you do try sand I would use the finest gradation of sand possible to reduce settlement.
@@roek7630 You can use sand as a filler in a flowable, cheaper low strength sand/water/cement mix with no foam. You will not get insulation material but it will likely be stronger. Most flowable fill mix has a compressive strength of approximately 500 psi.

What is that tool you used for pumping the mixture foam ? And how did you connect it with the air compressor?
Really interesting work you are doing. Just want to make a comment about your experience with type 1P cement.
You may be able to get even more positive results by using 1P.
Because Pozzolans can have water reducing properties, you may be able to design a mix using this cement and reducing the water content which will actually reduce the permeability while increasing or maintaining the same plasticity or workability. The ultimate strength might even be a little higher. Curing should be the same time allowed

Hey, frames remain, they would be very difficult to remove as they have a lip that is now cast inside the aircrete.

@@aircreteconstruction To keep costs down David, what are your thoughts on using Coco lumber instead of galvanized C section steel? The locals seem to think they would be eaten by termites after a short time but if treated with Solignum pest protection and completely enclosed maybe it would work.
@@SaranganiBob, if available in your region, I would suggest the use of treated bamboo for the frame in lieu of coo lumber. Bamboo is stronger and lighter.

I suspect that _not_ any soap will do, many have lotions & nonsense in them, which make them fundamentally bad at being soap.
Does the water HAVE to be clean? I'd kinda like to see this made with a whey-protien based 'graphene' suspension instead of tap water.
Fine styrene pellets can work well too (in lieu of suds), if you have enough access to waste styrofoam, and a good way to grind it. Seems a bit more stable.
what would it cost if i make (600mm x 3000mm x 100mm) mold? and should i use plaster?

After watching video, I was thinking the same thing, maybe pour a thin slab for flat roof,
which I have need of as mine is leaking. I wonder how it sets up and holds together over

@@rockyfjord3753 needs roof coating, you can do asphalt t impregrante the concrete, and then on the cheaper side do elastomeric white roof paint on top, that you can do by yourself, but aircrete has porosity, and will absorbwater... you can then also hire a roofer to install TOP membrane, or other covering suitable for flat roofs, instead of the elastoeric paint...a flat roof is often nt really flat, it should have about 1 1/4" pitch per foot....

I am watching your aicrete. When mixing the sand and cemement you did not indicate the measurement of cement and dand and also iif there is water involved. Whete ate you located in the Philippines?

interesting but I would question the strength this country or cluster of islands gets hit hard by typhoons. I could have that laid up in blocks or bricks by the time you build the formwork and mix.
I think the thing about aircrete is the money saved and insulation value much less the time and strength

You make it sound like you are using only 19 litres of foam mix per bag of portland but Domegaia calls for 113 liters per bag of portand. Which is correct?
Great video, if your using the Domegia recipe they don't mention adding sand. How much sand are you using per mix?
Hey, I mention domegaia with regards to my foam solution, I found the domegaia aircrete mix too soft so increased the density with the additon of sand. To one 40kg bag of cement I add 30kg of sand to be around 600kg per 1m3 density.
