Staying belt driven and not going straight electric motors might be the biggest complaint people will have about this unit. Very common problem, as I am sure you know, with the gas option. Happy to hear that they fixed the cheap battery lid though :)

Great video. This may seal the deal for us moving from our old gas-powered Toro to electric. One question which you may have touched on but any idea on runtime using the "Maximum" power setting all the time? I do bag some but typically try to mulch back into the soil what I cut. Thanks.

  • @CopperCreekCuts

To all lamenting the presence of belts, I believe since the blades are not staggered, they HAVE to use a timed belt with teeth so the blades don't contact each other. You can't ensure that with direct drive electric motors.
If they can't get rid of the belts for the blades it doesn't make sense to try and get rid of it for the transmission. (just my uninformed guess)

    • @GoFastGator
      @GoFastGator Год назад

Sure can use direct drive motors. They would have to be servo motors though ($$$) and all of the controls that come with them. Would make for one very expensive consumer mower!

The sad part is they make a commercial pulley upgrade .... why they don't sell it with them to begin with is beyond me.

Plus I heard it's underpowered for thicker and longer grass as it's 1 60v motor for both blades equivalent to running a timemaster with 150 cc engine. I could be wrong but that's based on what I heard elsewhere.

I think many people echoed it in your previous video, but many many consumers are going to hesitate at the price tag here. If toro wants to push a product like this and make it competitive with both their own line, and against other competitors then they need to make it more affordable. Until then I'll keep rocking my gas timemaster.

Thank you very much for this informative video! Toro says the eTimeMaster can run up to 65 minutes on two 10 AMP batteries. So I was wondering if the mower could run on one 10 AMP battery for a shorter period of time? If so, I would assume for up to about 30 minutes.

I made my own. I took the electric motor head and swapped it with the gas motor. I bought my gas powered timemaster 8 years ago. I have 5 batteries and it works good. I haven't had it shut down going over tall grass. Total cost buying the mower 8 years ago out of season, buying the motor head on eBay with batteries, selling the good working gas engine I removed, cost all said and done $575. Much better then almost $3000. I have a video of mine working. Toro used the same engine shaft and bolt configuration on both their gas and electric models. I assume to save money and use the same decks.

For those talking about this unit still being belt driven vs. electric motor… all electric mowers that have electric motors for the self-propel are very jumpy. They don’t ease into the drive, they have a brief delay and then jumps into gear. I believe the belt driven system will keep this process much smoother.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I have no idea what Toro is doing. $2400? 😭 Who does this appeal to at that price point? Pros will go towards a gas powered Turfmaster at that price… so not them. 9.9/10 homeowners will laugh at the price and move on. I’m a big believer and supporter of battery tech (own the Milwaukee mower which most already scoff at priced around $1000), and have operated my fair share of Toros in the past… but I just do not see this (and some of their other choices) helping them gain any market share in an increasingly competitive OPE segment. Even Ryobi beat them to the punch with their 30” dual bladed 80v model… $2000 and it comes with their string trimmer, blower, and a 4ah bundled free right now. 5yr warranty on tool and battery as well versus Toro’s 3yr. Very mixed on this. On the one hand, I'm glad Toro finally stepped up and made a 30" electric mower, so props to them for that.
On the other hand, I feel like they were super lazy with this design. The pulley and belt system on the Timemaster line has been a problematic mess... for over a DECADE... The fact that they didn't take this as an opportunity to upgrade everything, go belt-less and ditch the pulley system, I think is telling on where they are at as a company, and it's asking for inevitable headaches. And they're charging a premium for it.
Maybe they'll release a brushless, belt-less, pulley-less system when the Toro Haven auto-mower is released in Spring of 20XX... **ba-dum tsss**

They totally missed the mark here. This new electric model should been re-engineered to offer a newer composite/plastic deck similar to the Honda (lighter and no rusting) and also a more modern hydraulic drive system. I'd argue given how large the timemaster is this new model also should of incorporated a reverse drive also. Again, they totally missed the mark by simply taking the existing steel deck and outdated pulley-based drive system timemster (which is a great push mower for large spaces) and plopping a brushless motor with headlamps onto it and also asking faaaaar more $ than the existing gas powered timemaster.

This mower will save you about 1/3 the mowing time & I mow really slow.
      This results are outstanding.
Any and all the issue you see on the internet or the many You Tube Channels
so far have not showed up & I made no adjustments out of the box.
It starts on the second pull out of the box & during use.
No oil or fuel leaks & the deck stays pretty clean.
I tip it back after every 3 mows remove & sharpen the blades scrape & wire
      brush under the deck.
You do need ear muffs & as far as fuel I am able to do 5,000' on a tank.
I stay away from any sandy areas or away from the not so good back yard
to keep the blades sharp & use the 21' snappy for those areas.

Its time to mow again with the e timemaster. No music please, we want to hear this thing. Can it self propel without the blades spinning? I have a lot of landscape river rock to cross to get from the front yard to the back yard. I can't push a mower this heavy through those rocks, and I don't want to launch a rock through my neighbors window.

Yea for $2,400 plus tax $168 I think I would get a rider so I can sit on my but and drink a beer while mowing. Replacement battery $280 for one 60v Max Flex Force 6.0Ah Lithium Ion and who know how long they will last. I know prices vary but that was the average. Thanks for the review, it was educational.

Wowwww!!! I just saw they want $2,700 (post taxes) for this thing. That’s almost $1,000 more than the cost of the timemaster gas. Yikes. That’s quite the jump.

I got the gas version in Feb 2023 at Home Depot.
It was on sale if that is actually true.
It was $1,499.00 less Veterans Discount so $1,349.10
I went across State line to avoid sales tax as well.
      I saved $230.84

I bought the 40 volt line when the 60 volt first came out and was designated the professional line and Toro has since changed their mind. I began the search for new 40 volt batteries when the Plandemic began in 2020 for fear I wouldn't get anymore. Toro was oh nooo don't worry about it we aren't discontinuing that line up. I've been trying on and off since 2020 and am having difficulty getting anywhere WITH TORO

Yeah.... They are charging more than the gas unit bare tool and they really didn't do much engineering. Much like their electric snow blowers, they just put a motor where the engine was. Toro is getting greedy as hell and it's going to lead people to start buying else where

That’s exactly why I bought a Toro SR. I like their standard deck. I know I can get parts quickly. If you want a new chassis, buy a Toro Stripe.

And this is a problem how? Just what did you expect?
I have both a Toro 60V electric lawnmower & snowblower. Both work great, and I appreciate having only one type of battery for several tools.
The extra cost compared to the gas unit is almost certainly due to the batteries.

    • @ColeSpolaric

@@Bonnev-jt8hl the bare tool (no batteries) costs more than the gas model. And the gas model is already over priced. 50% price increase in 2 years was plain greed. My biggest complaint is the lack of innovation. The wheels should have a drive motor along with each blade. Snowblowers should have a drive motor each wheel, and one for the paddle or auger/impeller.

    • @Bonnev-jt8hl
