According to Consumer Reports 2014 report of most reliable cars Hyundai and Kia rank above Honda in overall reliability. With Toyota / Lexus beating everyone. The infotainment system ranks 2nd with Toyota 1st for the least destractive. If you purchased a 2012 or 2013 Honda you're about halfway through or almost done with your bumper to bumper warranty unlike Hyundai. As of 2010 Hyundai has produced some very reliable cars. NO RECALLS. I'd recommend you check out Consumer Reports, IIHS, and JD Powers when looking for reliability safety and tech in your next new or pre-owned vehicle and compare at least 3 manufacturer's vehicle that are in the same class that your looking to buy. Not to mention to remember to check how much insurance will be. Hyundai comes standard with Blue Link which will help bring your auto insurance down thanks to its LoJack like system just one of the many features that comes with having Hyundai's Blue Link Tech.
Honda Civic and all their vehicles stopped being the best, many years ago. They created a good reputation in those days but is a thing of the past. Hyundai is leading that are safe, very well made and with the best guarantee that exists in the market. Hyundai has its own steel plant where one of the best steels of the world are made to their vehicles and European markets. Who believes that Toyota and Honda are the best are out of date. That ended 15 years ago. The elantras are small tanks of war.
Go to CarComplaints.com and search for the Hyundai Eleantra 2013. Then search for the Honda Civic 2012, & you shall see who has more complaints in durability. This website also includes complaints filed with governmental agencies.
Guys, this is the HONDA COUPE, not HONDA SEDAN. The 2013 Honda SEDAN was the only trim that received the improvement on its model. The 2013 coupe still remained the same as the previous year (2012).
I have the exact Civic in this video in silver, I got it as my car, used 2012 Civic couple ex and I can honestly say I love it, my dad has a 2013 Civic lx sedan and I prefer my coupe better. Plus look today in 2017 the Elantra coupe no longer exists proving Civic coupe will always be the winner. I love how the Civic feels when you drive it and I love how easy it is to used plus the standard Bluetooth it has. It’s such a great first car, the drivers side has a thick pillar which can making changing lanes a little trickery but other than that it’s the best car out there
i hated the "it's basic but i know how to use it" which basically meant "it's shitty but atleast it has nothing to confuse a toddler". Cars are purchases that stay with owners for more than a couple of days. The owners can easily take the time to learn their car, the basic, boring and featureless layout in the civic ex shown is not an advantage.
His statement didn't make sense. In both of my Hyundai's I just pressed and held the station button and it was automatically programmed. It even made a beep. This happened on the XM FM and HD Programming.
The thing with fluidic design is that it will not stay fresh for long, why buy a car u will be bored looking at 1 year from now, where as hondas tend to have a safer, bolder design, which, in time, still looks neat, clean and fresh. Similarly with colors, black and silver are safe, all rounder colors, but buy in jazzy orange or electric blue, you will find yourself bored after a couple of months.
That what the Civic was, and hopefully it will remain, an affordable(and reliable) compact car, and the coupe an affordable sporty car(not full of technology) If you put to much on a car, the price goes up, and you lose your target buyers. That was addressed for the young generation, that can not buy a GTI or a Speed 3 or something else in the category. If you ask me, if you want a real sports car, you buy the WRX, no question about it. Or if you can go even further than that, Evo or STI.
The 12 civics were utter shit, the bottom Honda has ever been IMO. Hyundai all day long in that comparison. Lets face it, Hyundai is the new upstart going after Honda and will eventually surpass it in sales. Just like Honda was in the 80s. Honda has lost their way sadly, Ive owned 4 and I just bought a car last week and guess what, It wasnt a honda!
I don't know why you people argue about what automaker is better, ultimately its YOUR choice on what car you would rather have and a waste of time trying to change someones mind and most of the time its just kids watching car videos trying to be cool and talking about what their parents drive or what not.
Yes indeed, but that shows how idiotic is when people say Japanese cars are superior to Hyundai... and I say put a Civic super Japanese machine to a Genesis 5.0. ;)
Think about this: how about the poor people out there that bought the HORRIBLE 2012 civic, I've driven one once when I had to be a designated driver this Christmas and I couldn't BELIEVE it was actually made by Honda!!! What were they thinking? You could literally hear all the road noise, and it was cheap-feeling and buzzy...
I have the 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe and I think it's the best decision I made. The engine is very smooth and packs a lot of torque as well. Excellent interior and advanced technology. There are a lot of advanced safety features like hill assist as well. Highly recommend the 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe. Much better than the Honda Civic Coupe trash that's always offered by Honda. They never change.
Engineering sophistication... The reason why the Civic attained that rating is simple. The A-pillar is pushed up front. The Elantra is not. That is a simple design cue, something Elantra did not use. Again, your ignorance shows. Hyundai's engines and powertrains have been awarded in the top 10 in terms of reliability and efficiency. The Nu, Theta, Tau, Gamma are all well-awarded. BTW-- Elantra build quality and finish is fantastic. You're speaking out of your ass.
Are you blind or do you not see that the new Elantra essentially copied the 8th Civic's shape and thus also has the A-pillar pushed forward? So does the 2014 Forte! This is a stupid excuse. Go drive a Civic and an Elantra back to back and compare their engines. Unless you're extremely biased you will NOT prefer the Korean engine. Elantra build quality is average. Better than Focus, not as tight as Civic, again go look at these cars on the lots and compare their panel gaps and consistency.
I would never buy a hyundai Bc the parts are made cheap, put together cheap, and all the 2013 models look the same just fatter and wider. Before someone tells me I don't know what I'm taking about I worked for hyundai for two years.
I'd rather buy whichever gives me a bigger smile during the test drive. The one that excites me the most... In my experience if the test ride ain't nothing special, then your car won't feel special and you won't get that emotional bond.
Sorry but i'd take ANY Honda over ANY Hyundai any day. Hyundai's might look like they're good, but most of them are junk and have many problems with reliability, especially in their engines, and their electronic power steering system which is crap.
What do you mean by most of them are Junk ? Did you even driven one ( from 2013 or above ) before making that statement ? It's ok to have a preference or opinion but don't force your point of view ( about most of them are junk ) like it's a fact before at least driving or asking most people who owns it. We're not in the 90s - this is 2013 model & check this ( www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2014-us-initial-quality-study-iqs ) Hyundai is rated 4th in 2014 based on J.D Power ( U.S ) Initial Quality Study - Honda is rated 9th.
The '13 Civic has optional heated front seats, and a standard backup camera, and the fabric you disliked has been replaced. So your criticisms of this car are void! Shame, Autoguide!
I would hate to stare at that ugly dash and sit in that ugly seats of that Civic. If you want a real sports car, you buy the VW GTI, not a Civic which is an economy car. Unless you're a car enthusiast, you're not even going to notice any difference in terms of driving dynamics between a Civic or Elantra. At this price, you're buying a car to go from A to B without problems, and that's all that matters.
two words.. pedigree and heritage..thats what Hyundai is never gonna achieve..yes they can out do the Honda, Toyota or Nissan in terms of styling and comfort. But the driving feel and smile on your face when your driving it you never gonna get that from Hyundai
i can totally attest to the honda being the more engaging drive. i own the 2012 elantra sedan, and the steering is very numb. the steering wheel doesnt make the car turn at all for the first few inches of steering lock. also, the body roll is horrendous.
The Civic is the better engineered car structurally and mechanically, plus it's assembled better and drives better. The Elantra is a softer car with nicer appointments but you have to give those up to get the level of engineering sophistication and quality in the Civic for the same price.
Good review and quite correct, we own the Elantra Elite (LTD) sedan and also the new Civic Euro spec hatch (not available in USA). In terms of driver focus, the Honda wins hands down, it just feels really nailed to the road and is more engaging. I have to also admit the Honda feels more solid and better built. Both cars cost the same in NZ and have the same size engines. The Elantra does feel quicker maybe due to the 6 speed auto over the Hondas 5, the Elantra also has more room than the civic.
Your not comparing apples to apples. You took an all new car and compared it to last years civic. 2nd it's not even the trim. The 2013 has WAY better interior and heated seats. That is standard in cloth. All in all. Get your crap together and get the correct comparison. Thanks.
You're telling me to "Refrain from stupid comments in the first place" when you said the Civic was the same shit box? And then you say i need correction? Come on, really.
Elantra's biggest let-down is the fact that it wouldn't hold it's value like the Civic would. Sad but true. I personally bought a hyundai once for nearly 13k and was only able to sell it for 5k 4 years after. Something to consider there pals. I still like the Elantra better than the Civic though
They forgot to point out Hyundai's Warranty... a staggering 10 YEAR 100,000 Mile Power Train, 5 Year 60,000 Mile Bumper to Bumper, 7 Year Unlimited Mile Anti-Perforation and 5 Year Unlimited Mile Road Side Assistance Warranty. This Beats the Honda up and down the road.
Honda lasts longer Honda has better resale value Honda will age better because design doesn't change drastically to ruin the value and how it'll live and make you happy Honda makes your car look modern longer. Performance isn't everything the smoothness and light feel and simple control's will probably last longer, having a better build quality. Everything else Elantra does have but I think the Honda will be better for every day life.
civic for me. much better driving car than the elantra. although it lacks the amenities the elantra offers, it just feels like a better put together car. if you compared it with the 13 models, the civic would win hands down thanks to the upgraded interior and technology.
The 2013 Civic is a better car, not sure why the honda is 2012 and hyundai is 2013...Honda has a proven history of reliability ....I doubt you'll like that hyundai when it's in and out of the shop...
Lori Huber check out the Subaru impreza. The passat TDI. IF YOU WANT JUST GOOD MPGS. THE MAZDA 3 AND THE DODGE DART.BOTH get 41. As the Elantra actually gets about 35.5. I myself am looking at a Legacy. All wheel drive awesome handling. And concert.
rick pettry I am thinking about a Accord, which I have now, or maybe the Nissian 2013 Altma which comes in a coupe...I am just not a fan of Elantra...My parents just bought a Prasad...I am looking for reliability...I have definitely been happy with my Accord...
i am just explaining to people that the elantra is the better car, the guy in the video is bias in honda's favor. i only said i had an elantra because hes giving people the idea that hondas drive better, but elantras drive great
In my opinion the Civic looks much more bad ass. The headlights on the hyundai are too wavy for me. I'm sure both cars are great but I personally like the looks of the civic design much better. Again just my opinion. To each their own.
Why use the 2012 Civic when the 2013 is on sale and MUCH improved? Miss leading, out of date video that doesn't help the horrible first half of the 9th Gen Civic. The 2013 is where its at.
The Civic Coupe has also been redesign , everything in the sedan , they has also apply to the Coupe , just that the exterior design is the same on the coupe but the coupe has new alloy wheels , go check up honda website.
you must be fucking working at hyundai dealer to state something like this, seriously, honda engineering is far way better than the korean uprising brand. Dont mess with honda, they've been the best car brand in JD power since I can remember
ok old school in the honda is crap like so many companies are coming up and making cars look better and cheaper which honda does not do neither does Toyota... the Honda is just ugly as fuck
i feel like the guy who liked the civic was just a hyundai hater. come on dude, look at elantra, it's so much superior to the civic, hyundai is giving you the greatest bang for your buck. the elantra is great at driving, i have one. the main reason why people buy honda is because of the name. hyundai has been destroying its rivals these past few years. but believe me everyone, one day hyundai will no longer have a bad name, just like honda is now.
And the gti BTW is not a better sports car... there overpriced and expensive to maintain... there nice I'm not knocking them but I would never call them superior; and again BTW the wrx and evo are not sports cars, there rally cars,, none of these are real sports cars IMO... a 370z is a sports car, sports cars don't fix your mistakes for u ( still, evo)
One of the best comparison test done. Hyundai built the Elantra as a tit for tat competitor for the civic. Hands down the Elantra wins in the look category and value for money. With that said, the Civic is still the poor mans drivers car and even though it is dated, I would still spend my money on the civic.
I don't hate Hyundai I respect that they've become more improved over the last decade yes there are some aspects not everyone agrees with but they have gotten better. Unfortunately for them I always will choose Honda they're simply better built to me the 2013 Civic coupe is a whole different league in terms of interior and exterior upgrades and would like to see an updated review
i dont disagree with u mate..yes the Genesis r spec is a good car infact its a great car and its faster than some humdrum 911s but with a price. thats what Japanese cars is all about more for less and the reliabilty is great..have u even driven an hyundai genesis 2001 model to civic 2001 model..the gap i monumental its like comparing a horse to a cow..and you cant compare v8 model to a humble 2 liter motor..try comparing ur v8 on a v6 nissan gtr or a lexus lfa thne you'll have run for ur money
People still using the same bullsh!t argument again. "Hyundais are copies of other brands" Give me a break. Anyone notice the newest Accord looks pathetically similar to the Genesis?
The Civic is the only compact sedan to get a "Good" rating in the new IIHS small overlap crash test (Elantra = acceptable, Forte = poor). That covers structural sophistication. Civic's powertrains, both the old 1.8L and the new Earth Dreams are better than anything in the Elantra, GDI or otherwise in terms of refinement & reliability. Elantra's panel gaps aren't as tight/consistent as the Civic's. The Elantra still has a torsion beam suspension at the rear where the Civic's is independent.
!st of all regardless of if its the 2012 or 2013 civic it still looks cheap and boring...i feel nothing looking at that car, it just blends in. A friend just brought one and it feels very basic and looks very basic especially in LX trim. The Elantra looks sexy and its something you would be proud to drive/ to be seen in. Honda knows better for even puttin that messy civic out. Hyundai is steadily inproving quality, fit and finish and resale value. Ive had 2 hondas..on my 2nd Hyundai now.
Civics last years, and will last longer then Elantras. Elantras look better now granted, but new civic looks for 2013 has improved. I still would buy a civic only!
I'd have to disagree. I bought a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. 26,000 miles later, the transmission literally gave out. Yes, it was still under warranty, but damn was that car a hot mess. Gave that car in for a 2012 Civic, and I don't regret it. Civic's handing is better, as well as the resale value. Hyundai is catching up, but Honda is still better.
I don't know, I'm not feeling the front grill and fascia of the hyundai lol. I like how civic is still understated and elegant and probably indeed more connect to the road. However, I agree Elantra have much better interior, Honda need consider upgrade the look of inside soon.
ok maybe someone can explain this to me... why is it considered a fair comparison to put a 2013 up to a 2012? after looking at the 2013 civic pics i would think it would win outright to the 2013 Elantra...
Those other companies know the Civic has the superior design and body structure for both comfort, driveability, and safety. They have to mimic the design in some way to keep up in sales. The only thing I would give the Elantra over the Civic is the more techy look inside and the engine power. But Honda has the reliability in engine and they definitely improved the interior in the 2013 model.
and by the way honda has a formula 1 team and the nsx is tuned and developed by sena one of the freatest f1 driver...that means the tech they used on f1 is incorporated to their road cars...who developed and tune ur genesis? ***lol****
The features that Hyundai gives over the civic is massive. The new 2013 civics have the the i-MID and standard rear-view camara, but lack of heated leather seats and auto climate control has options for the same price puts the EX-L at a disadvantage.
I meant to say they haven't exactly redesigned the coupe versions for 2013. I expect them to come out with a fully redesigned version soon. Not just a new set of wheels.
I will say Hyundai's styling a alot better, a lot nicer. The Honda Civic still looks like an early 90's automobile. HOWEVER, I don't believe Hyundai builds a car as well as Honda. And will probably never build a car as good as Toyota.
The Civic just looks basic and cheap next to the Elantra, for me is no doubt Hyundai is doing things better. The Civic might be sportier but I prefer the looks and sense of upgrade you get on the Elantra.
I still would take the 2012 Civic over the 2013 Elentra just because of Honda's history for reliability and I like the way the Civic's look
Look at the resale values of the two and you'll clearly see the true winner.
According to Consumer Reports 2014 report of most reliable cars Hyundai and Kia rank above Honda in overall reliability. With Toyota / Lexus beating everyone. Not to mention to remember to check how much insurance will be. Hyundai comes standard with Blue Link which will help bring your auto insurance down thanks to its LoJack like system just one of the many features that comes with having Hyundai's Blue Link Tech.
He's really trying to beef up the Honda give me the Elantra
After owning a second gen Hyundai Elantra, I will never touch another Korean nightmare....
OMG.. hyundai looks so much better
I love the hyundai elantra.

Hyundai is good but not as reliable even in 2022. Toyota and Honda are still on top of hyundai
"Affordability and identifiably"
Who wants to be identified in a Civic?
Easy choice. The civic 👍

Wow, yeah that makes sense... we ARE in 2013. So what genius decided to use the 2012 Civic when there ARE pretty significant changes.
Town is Mississauga a full size city that is a suburb of Toronto.
two words.. pedigree and heritage..thats what Hyundai is never gonna achieve..yes they can out do the Honda, Toyota or Nissan in terms of styling and comfort. But the driving feel and smile on your face when your driving it you never gonna get that from Hyundai

The only good Chinese car is the Lifan Solano, the worst cars EVER are made by Turkey (Fiat-Murat) and Serbia (Zastava).
Most Importantly, which of the two will hold its value after 5 years, HONDA
i drove both and ended up buying the civic.
i dont get the guy that likes the civic wants a car to be quiet and just be on the road i rather have a car that says look at me
Why are you comparing cars that are over 12 years ago?
false, the elantra coupe gets 29 city 40 highway 33 combined.which is better than the civic's gas mileage.
Your not comparing apples to apples. You took an all new car and compared it to last years civic. 2nd it's not even the trim. The 2013 has WAY better interior and heated seats. That is standard in cloth. All in all. Get your crap together and get the correct comparison. Thanks.
nah Hyundai used to copy the designs but they have their own style now you can always tell a hyndai from a honda these days.
You're telling me to "Refrain from stupid comments in the first place" when you said the Civic was the same shit box? And then you say i need correction? Come on, really.

shudda done the 2013 Civic :P
Ugh this guy pissed me off with how much he loved the Elantra! It has FAKE LEATHER and who cares about cupholders...ugh better basic?
Coupe isn't out yet. Not even for the Si
Honda lasts longer
Honda has better resale value

Good question. read the Edmondson review. Mazda 3 beat out the Elantra
I will do that! Thank you Rick
Lori Huber comfert. Silly auto correct

I am thinking about a Accord, which I have now, or maybe the Nissian 2013 Altma which comes in a coupe...I am just not a fan of Elantra...My parents just bought a Prasad...I am looking for reliability...I have definitely been happy with my Accord...
i am just explaining to people that the elantra is the better car, the guy in the video is bias in honda's favor. i only said i had an elantra because hes giving people the idea that hondas drive better, but elantras drive great
In my opinion the Civic looks much more bad ass.
Love your videos!! Keep up the awesome work
automatics are barely starting to become better than standards let alone in the 90s
I'd never buy the Civic Coupe.... waste of money. I'd take the Elantra. But I'd the the Civic SI Sedan over both.
i guarantee the honda will age better. good video nonetheless
cant believe some prefers a heap hyundai over the civic people these days knows nothing about cars
I believe they are Canadian based so it might be Toronto.
ok old school in the honda is crap like so many companies are coming up and making cars look better and cheaper which honda does not do neither does Toyota... the Honda is just ugly as fuck
Who uses the radio???? I just bluetooth stream from my iPhone. Elantra has a nice media/bluetooth system.
i feel like the guy who liked the civic was just a hyundai hater. come on dude, look at elantra, it's so much superior to the civic, hyundai is giving you the greatest bang for your buck. the elantra is great at driving, i have one. the main reason why people buy honda is because of the name. hyundai has been destroying its rivals these past few years. but believe me everyone, one day hyundai will no longer have a bad name, just like honda is now.
I just like the more conservative (timeless) exterior of the Civic over the curvy lines of the Elantra.
Unfortunately for them I always will choose Honda they're simply better built to me the 2013 Civic coupe is a whole different league in terms of interior and exterior upgrades and would like to see an updated review
i dont disagree with u mate..yes the Genesis r spec is a good car infact its a great car and its faster than some humdrum 911s but with a price. thats what Japanese cars is all about more for less and the reliabilty is great..have u even driven an hyundai genesis 2001 model to civic 2001 model..the gap i monumental its like comparing a horse to a cow..and you cant compare v8 model to a humble 2 liter motor..try comparing ur v8 on a v6 nissan gtr or a lexus lfa thne you'll have run for ur money
how the hell is the elantra even close to the civic it looks more like the audi brand mainly because a lot of the designers are from audi....
People still using the same bullsh!t argument again. "Hyundais are copies of other brands"
Give me a break.
I think you guy should have waited for the 2013 civic coupe to compare the interior and the ride of both cars
Civics last years, and will last longer then Elantras. Elantras look better now granted, but new civic looks for 2013 has improved. I still would buy a civic only!
And they stole the body lines from honda and just put a crease below the door so it looks like a fish out of water
What about Testing it against the 2013 Civic coupe? Huge improvement!
Think that Elantra is better than Civic for every parts except durable
this review is so poor. end was horrible.
I don't know, I'm not feeling the front grill and fascia of the hyundai lol.
I like how civic is still understated and elegant and probably indeed more connect to the road. However, I agree Elantra have much better interior, Honda need consider upgrade the look of inside soon.
Civic always!!!
ok maybe someone can explain this to me... why is it considered a fair comparison to put a 2013 up to a 2012? after looking at the 2013 civic pics i would think it would win outright to the 2013 Elantra...
***lol****
Hyundai makes good looking cars but they are sloppy to drive, not even close to as well built, reliable or hold its value.
The features that Hyundai gives over the civic is massive.
The new 2013 civics have the the i-MID and standard rear-view camara, but lack of heated leather seats and auto climate control has options for the same price puts the EX-L at a disadvantage.
It's funny the Elantra Coupe has 6 cup holders, but my 2013 Accent 5 door only has two, not counting the ones in the door storage area.
I meant to say they haven't exactly redesigned the coupe versions for 2013. I expect them to come out with a fully redesigned version soon. Not just a new set of wheels.
the accent? the veloster looks like nothing out there! genesis coupe??
Santa Fe? Tuscon ? how do any of these looks like copies from Honda or Toyota
I will say Hyundai's styling a alot better, a lot nicer. The Honda Civic still looks like an early 90's automobile. HOWEVER, I don't believe Hyundai builds a car as well as Honda. And will probably never build a car as good as Toyota.
LOL, then is that why Ward's Auto hasn't awarded Honda's engine, but continues to rate Hyundai's engines highly?
The Civic just looks basic and cheap next to the Elantra, for me is no doubt Hyundai is doing things better. The Civic might be sportier but I prefer the looks and sense of upgrade you get on the Elantra.
