They ration surgeries in the UK and Canada. Socialized medicine is not a good thing. There have been multiple cases of children with curable illness in the UK that were denied treatment. The parents asked the US for help and it was granted. Free travel, lodging and treatment. The UK’s response was to say no and then station armed police officers outside the child’s hospital room to prevent the parents from taking the child to the US for treatment. The police officers maintained their post until the children died. Don’t believe me? Look it up.

One of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen and I cry every time I watch it. This introduced me to Tom Hardy and I respect him so much as a person as well as an actor
Great film, this is one of those rare films that is known as a "Guy Cry" movie (Which it is) and a lot of men actually cry or at least tear up especially with the last 20 minutes. One of my all-time favorite movies. The dialog is gut-punch after gut-punch, saying so much with so few words. I love how they never have any flashbacks to Nick Nolte's character because they aren't needed, the dialog paints a vivid enough picture of what he had been like. I normally hate it when they leave things to the audience's imagination, it usually reflects the writers' laziness and/or lack of imagination, but in this case it works perfectly IMO. And the acting, the magnificent acting from the entire cast, they tell you all you need to know with a glance. And then there's the fight scenes themselves, brutal and grounded so that it feels real. There's no crazy superhuman feats, it's not two meatheads ridiculously punching each other in the face for round after round, it's just fairly realistic mixed martial arts (with one major nitpick on the last fight, no way they don't stop it before those last two rounds, but I get why they did that). It's thrilling and riveting because they did such a great job of developing the characters so that you can't help but cheer for both brothers, all while understanding why they're ultimately fighting each other. The stakes are very relatable and are by no means far-fetched, yet they're also very compelling. The themes of the working class struggling to keep their heads above water have never been more relevant, and the themes of healing from generational violence and trauma are harrowing but ultimately hopeful. This movie doesn't get nearly enough praise as it deserves.

Massively underrated movie. Idk if it’s just that it’s like just from the early 2000s and there were a lot of admittedly bad MMA movies back then and maybe this got lumped in with them, but I always felt the performances in this were genuinely stellar. Nolte and Hardy in particular had such good chemistry.
this NEVER got lumped in with those trash MMA movies lol wtf are you on about? e
