I first visited Westfield more than 51 years ago. It was the hometown of someone who had become very
special to me. Unfortunately, my enlistment in the Navy turned out to be the end of our relationship. Some
46 years later, I learned she had succumbed to cancer in 2013. After much thought, I traveled over 500 miles
to Westfield in the summer of 2017...I felt compelled to visit her grave and speak to her. On a beautiful summer
morning, I found her. For nearly an hour, I spoke to her. At times, it was very difficult, as I wrestled with my tears
and nearly overwhelming grief. During that hour, I realized that, even after five decades, I still loved her...perhaps
even more than when I was I very young man. I promised her, I would return...and I will. Westfield remains a very
beautiful little town...even more beautiful because she's there. I love you for all eternity, DAJ.
