I live in Riverdale and it is everything they showed here. The Bronx actually have more parks than any other borough in NYC.
People underestimate how big and beautiful Van Courtlandt park is! 🙌🏾💯
@@blockchainboy2294 it’s massive!
Not true Staten Island is the borough of parks
So
@@blockchainboy2294 Everytime i see or hear Van Cortlandt i think of The Warriors
Most people, when they think of the Bronx, think of South Bronx, which is most definitely NOT green, but most of what I remember of the Bronx is from visits to the Zoo and especially the area around Fordham University (my dad’s an alumnus) and, honestly, I remember it as more pleasant than a lot of Queens
Hip hop as well south bronx
Shhhh don’t let people know this it’s our best kept secret lol
Not true queens is by far much cleaner & safer etc....
what lol belmont is mad hood
@@MizTheDonGargon Bronx is the biggest hood -- most of the Bronx is just awful -- but Riverdale is nice.
Hidden gem in the Bronx for sure! Love the natural setting of Riverdale
Thanks for the support Mr. Kid!
ActionKid? LEGEND👍🏾

hey AK!! I'm jackie who walks with An sometimes
Yes, indeed
I'm from Yonkers so I have of course lived near this area of the Bronx. I got so many memories chilling at Van Cortlandt Park, watching and hearing the sounds of the elevated 1 train passing by. That was how I would always get to Manhattan. The Riverdale/Fieldston area is one of my favorite parts of the BX and it looks so gorgeous in this video. I feel like living in this area when I move back to New York.
My borough! The Bronx is so underrated and has so many beautiful places. I didn't know Van Cordtlant Park had cricket fields either. I've been to Fieldston's Lodge for an event when I worked at Montefiore and it was amazing. I've never been to Wave Hill but will put it on my bucket list. Thank you for showing my borough in a beautiful light and not how others always make it seem like a sesspool.
imari2305 When I worked at Einstein/Montefiore, one of their events was held at Wave Hill. It's lovely; hope you get there one day!
It’s great when they have tournaments and do the traditional “tea” break.
Van Cortland park is a great park
Is Riverdale predominantly Hasidic Jewish families?
@@jaspervonbach3621 no. Every time I was there it’s wealthy non Hasidim. Most of them live in Brooklyn and rockland and Orange counties in the Hudson valley.
I live here. 246. This place is amazing. Fieldstone and the near by residential streets are some of the most beautiful tree line streets I ever seen. You literally got off in front of my building in the bus (Briar Oaks)
Riverdale is probably the biggest hidden secret in NYC in terms of real estate areas
Nice job fool, giving away your address….tell me how many breakins have you had? 😂
@@scottgould6590 none. This community has cameras everywhere and a door man. I live here for a reason 🙃
Okay thanks for setting me straight. And yes you have great security. ❤️ Now if I could only break out of this slum pit in LA I might join you one day 🙃 but then again theres that one factor called weather lol. Peace.
@@scottgould6590 there’s always FL. I m weeks away from moving to FL 😂
I lived in San Jose for 5 years. Great weather but it still does get down to low 30s in the Bay Area.
30 degree weather in FL is extremely rare
So happy you were able to showcase just how beautiful the Bronx is!! I love it and wouldn't want live anywhere else.
I grew up in the Bronx. Riverdale was the Rich section of the Bronx. I remember taking Metro-North all the way to beacon New York to visit my grandparents.
Beacon is absolutely incredible.. I lived in both riverdale and beacon and loved them both
I agree! The Bronx has so many hidden gems. Wave Hill is so beautiful too
And, don’t forget the 250 acre beautiful New York Botanical Garden in The Bronx!
Which is the largest botanical garden in NYC
yes! so beautiful!
What a fascinating video...especially for a Californian who only knows the standard NYC stereotypes.
Great presentation!
I could remember visiting Wave Hill during a 5th grade class trip. I could remember there were trees that had maple in them.
Bronx has a lot of good locations to offer.
No there are only a few exceptions.
Absolutely loved living in this area. Always in good physical condition, I lived at the top of 238 and Broadway. So many walks in the park and trips to An Beal Bocht Cafe
Looking on Zillow. I will continue to appreciate my cities "affordable" mansions
Im from Southern California, and I've never had the hankering to go east, until this video. What a lovely spot.
Great to see coverage of Riverdale; it's one of the best neighborhoods with an urban/suburban feel in the city beside Forest Hills. Lot's of parks, history and hidden gems in the Bronx.
Are used to live in New Jersey, North Jersey & always thought of the Bronx as one of the poorest areas in New York. Had no idea anything like this existed. Thank you so much for informing me. .👌
@@sunnydaze2359 most of the east bronx is also like this your perception of there being nothing like this in the bronx is just so wrong and the rest of the bronx besides riverdale and the east bronx is just so underrated as well exactly for this reason that people will not go there or think there's anything of value there just because it's poor 🙄
Wow, what a great tour of my old nabe!! Lived many years in Riverdale and remember so many spots fondly. Thanks for visiting a lovely place in the Bronx. Lots more out there!
Riverdale is gorgeous! But Pelham Bay gives them a run for their money - absolutely gorgeous, entranced in nature and not too far from a beach, Orchard. Not to mention, Pelham Bay Park is NYCs largest park as it extends to both the aforementioned beach and City Island.
I'm from out of state and loved Pelham Bay. Orchard Beach was nice to explore and transition into nature too.
I love pelham bay park.
I was born and raised in the Bronx riverdale is beautiful but I also think city island and Throggs Neck is beautiful too !
pelham bay is kinda ghetto now 😬
@@joanna9233 yeah…..shame what has happened to some of it.
Always happy to see The Bronx getting some love!!
People who’ve never been here, hear NYC and think of the gritty city of yesteryears. Each Boro has their ultra- rich area. I live near Jamaica Estates - there are multi-million dollar houses in there!
Actually, Pelham Gardens is quite nice and often overlooked.
At least riverdale has metronorth line though.
This guy made videos about 2 of my old neighborhoods- Riverdale and Forest Hills. I always knew these places were the hidden gems. Especially Riverdale. I am Korean and grew up with lots of Jewish people. The kids were so nice and the teachers were unbelievably amazing. Ive always felt so safe growing up there.
This video definitely hyped me up. I only went to Liebman's for the first time back in May, but I remember getting the pastrami on rye with a motzah ball soup and 2 knishes, and I absolutely loved it. Riverdale essentially is the Forest Hills of the Bronx, except more upscale but just as gorgeous. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit Jon, and I appreciate you going to Liebman's and Wave Hill especially. I'm also surprised to see goats in Van Cortlandt Park
The goats are there to kill invasive plants haha.
@@HereBeBarr wow
Lloyd's is definitely the BEST carrot cake anywhere!!!!!!
Yesss
Ditto that👍🏽
I attended PS 24 and PS 81 in the early 1970s. I lived in the SkyView Apartments on Arlington Avenue. My family moved in 1977. I’m an attorney in Miami for many years but a part of me is always that little boy walking to school and living Riverdale. Thank you for posting this. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I also went to P.s 24 in the 90’s and lived on Johnson ave. Shout out to Ms.Welber! She was an amazing fifth grader teacher. I will always remember her. And boo to Ms. Theobald. Gosh I really hated that woman!
What an absolutely lovely and hidden gem in the city! My previous travels to New York City were way too limited in time to explore and find places like this, hopefully in the near future I can do so, THANKS SO MUCH for this video. Had it not been for your feature on Riverdale, I never would have known about it.
I wrote an article about cricket in New York during my time in school as an assignment. If I remember correctly, the sport's origins in the city date back to the 18th century. Love your content btw!
Thanks!!
I lived in North Riverdale for 12 years and this clip brought me back. I spent so much time on that Metro North platform!
Hey! I used to take the bus with you back to Riverdale :) I was scrolling through the comments to see who else from the neighborhood saw the video :)
@@sirsyko Thanks! That is one topic not touched on. If you commute via the express bus, you will spend *many* hours in transit every workweek & will be at the mercy of traffic on the Major Deegan but I do miss it sometimes.
Lived on Greystone Avenue from 2006-2018, down the street from An Beal Bocht, the best Irish bar. Such awesome restaurants: Tin Marin, Salvatore’s, too many to name. Love Riverdale!
great video. Moved to Victoria Park(Broward County) 20 years ago. Grew up on the Yonkers side of the border. Graduated Lehman and had a Podiatry office on 170th street Grand Concourse.. The life experience better than any school. Barr none. Thanks for the memories.
I lived in Riverdale briefly back in 2021, helped take care of my Dad until he passed away.

The Bronx gets a bad rap. I am a native Bronxite living in Manhattan. Thank you for covering this great area.
Great video watching at 12:50am!!
FYI Katz is not kosher it is "kosher style"
Liebermans is kosher.
Absolutely not the same-they are 2 different cuisines .
Bad rap from who clowns film stuff in the south Bronx and people think that’s all of the Bronx there’s city island east Bronx riverdale and etc
It's the stupid trouble maker's that ruined it
I'm from Brooklyn, but have visited Wave Hill many times. Takes forever by train and bus but is absolutely worth it. Also ran cross country in Van Cortlandt Park back in high school and more recently did long runs there while training for the NYC marathon. I would absolutely live in Riverdale!
Hello, a Bronxite here, I love Brooklyn and Bronx, visited Fulton park, I love that small park in the area in Brooklyn, the old houses with the vintage bulbs that people have in the area. I love the park near Tompkin where the B43 buses run pass and the B38 buses to. Brooklyn to me have a whole lot of history. Interesting building on Willoughby Avenue and Lewis.
Thanks for showcasing my neighborhood! Next time you are here you should try S&S cheesecake and also get a beer at the Bronx ale house (a few doors down from each other).
It definitely gives a hidden gem feel to the Bronx. Love it! Thanx
I was a visiting nurse in Riverdale to the beginning of Yonkers for 15 years.I lived on central Ave in Yonkers.
I've lived in the Bronx for about 12 years now. Constantly told my college mates and coworkers (many who live in the lower parts of Manhattan, Queens, or Brooklyn, to give BX a chance. Also near the areas shown here is my favorite cafe, Mon Amour on 238th Street. The Woodlawn Cemetery has some of the most beautiful architecture I've ever seen. Van Cortlandt has a nice amount of wildlife (I'm a wildlife photographer and do lots of work there) and the bike trail in the park is actually part of the Empire Trail, which goes from Battery Park all the way up and beyond the Bronx(can't recall where the trail ends. But it's quite the ride.) thanks for doing the neighborhood justice.

Dont forget pelham bay park, the biggest park in the nyc
I’m done convincing non-Bronxites to visit lol To them (mostly Brooklynites) anywhere above Harlem is considered too far smh
It’s better that away given the rate of exploitation….
I’ll continue to enjoy our beautiful nature and say hello to the deer’s that roam freely 😊
@@mandyraye6906 it goes both ways, Brooklyn and Bronx I love, I'm a Bronxite, but love both borough's
Awesome video again! I called riverdale home for 5 years! It was a great place to grow up
I’m born and raised in the BX. I absolutely love Wave Hill Park. Been there many times💚
I’m actually looking to move to Riverdale.
I've lived in the Bronx my entire life. It's definitely slept on....I ❤ NY but I love The Bronx More.
A little movie history. The movie The Warriors was filmed at Van Cortlandt Park back in the late 70’s.
Lived for many years on Henry Hudson Pkwy in the Riverdale section of the Bronx , near an area called Spuyten Duyvil. Loved it, could walk to shopping, restaurants and park.
I went to Manhattan College and I was surprised that one of our dormitories was on the other side of Fieldston. It was a real eye-opener for me.
I wish the entire Bronx is like Riverdale! Beautiful neighborhood in New York City!
It was at one time
@@joystratton68 , I know! My Dad grew up on Walton Avenue near E. Burnside!
I am really impressed by newyork city every borough and specially brooklyn
Keep it up john😊😊
Just have to say, your video's inspired me to apply for residency in NYC. I've been here two months now and really love it! It has definitely changed (from what I've heard) due to COVID-19, but I'm just going to enjoy it while I can (and enjoy the "pandemic rent price"!).
That is awesome!
Great video - I love my hidden gem of a neighborhood. Very fortunate to live here and share this amazing community with my awesome neighbors.
So proud of the BX - City Island and Arthur Ave are great places to check out as well!
Arthur Avenue used to be nice
City Island

Although a high bar(r), this has probably been my favorite video of yours that you have done in and around NYC (I loved your Iya Valley videos). I like how you push yourself to go out and explore and see things anew. Keep up the good work. Very thankful for your videos.
Wow, this is my neighborhood! This was really fun to watch, thanks :) Love the Earlybird Café shirt!
I’m from East 233rd Street. Woodlawn/Wakefield border. I may have moved away but I will always love The Bronx. I have too many ancestors buried their to not love it.
The Bronx has many hidden gems
Thanks Manny!!

Thanks Jon, another great area of NY to discover.❤️
OMG! This was such a great video for me to watch. My dad played cricket right there in that park, all my life growing up in the Bronx. Funny...I never asked why...lol I'm gonna send this to him right now!!! Wow! Cricket is slightly similar to baseball but the setup is different and the ball is WAAAAAY harder. My dad has gotten hit twice by them. Thank you so much for doing this feature in this part of the Bronx. I liked the one you did on Fordham, but there are truly so many places in The Bronx, other boroughs sleep on. I gotta check out that Botanical Garden...huh.. who knew???
Great video! Thank you! Riverdale is beautiful. The only place you didn't mention or film was Manhattan College. As Bourdain would say the pastrami certainly doesn't suck
#4 is where my grandma lives. It's so weird to go to RUclips and see a neighborhood I've visited for all my life.
This is one of my favorite areas of New York City!
Thanks for an outstanding Bronx boosting presentation ! Miss much about good people and nice places.
Wow, really beautiful!! Not what you imagine when you think of the Bronx!
Riverdale is absolutely gorgeous. 💖
Very nice to see and a way of life and environment from a slice of NYC. Seems like the best of both worlds. The patch of land and neighborhood resonates with me. Enjoyed the tour and guide - thanks so much 👍

The park with the views is awesome! So beautiful and a great place to escape for all the hustle and bustle. -S
Brilliant tips! Parks wonderful, Lieberman’s pastrami delicious. Sadly Lloyds closed on Sunday so no carrot cake for us - don’t make the same mistake!
Thanks for all the tips!
That video was awesome!
Every city has there nice parts and upper class or rich parts but growing up in a rough neighborhood in the Bronx I loved escaping to Fieldston and River Dale and just feeling at ease and knowing that there's more than inner city violence and danger and that one can make it out if hard work applied
This was more than fun. It was helpful. Thank ypu.
Lovely video. Anthony Bourdain was awesome!
The Bronx really has some beautiful places i will definitely check it out this summer thanks for showing people another side that a lot of people know nothing about.
Very enjoyable and informative video. Thank you!
Oh, Jon, if I knew you were coming I'd have baked a cake, a carrot cake! Welcome to the nabe and thanks for showcasing it so well.
i love Riverdale. its such a beautiful neighborhood. I hope to live there one day in the future.
Riverdale is the setting of the stories in the Archie Comics universe.
Riverdale in the Bronx has always been one of the best kept secrets in N.Y.C.
For a time JFK livEd in the Wave Hill area and went to one of the local private schools, you probably walked right by his house!
Exactly
I grew up in the Hudson Valley and took the trains past Riverdale to Grand Central all the time but never got off to look around. Now I'm sitting here in Los Angeles and watching you show me around my old "home". But I would correct something the cricket player said at 8:42 about the Van Cordtlandts - they were not from England but rather the Netherlands. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Cortlandt_family We often forget that New York was first New Amsterdam.
I'm sure Los Angeles's have nice area's to
Well done on this video. 👏 Love it.

Fantastic video. What a hidden gem.
Nice tour! I love The Bronx, worked up there for years as a paramedic. You'll find cricket being played in Kissena Park as well. Have you ever done a Queens greenway video? That would be cool!
Did you work out of the EMS station near the 49th Pct and behind Jacobi Hospital?
My wife and I stopped and ate at Liebman's when we were moving from North Carolina to Massachusetts. Amazing experience!
I lived in Riverdale for 30 years. Please keep it a secret!!!
literally everyone knows art it. No one goes bc its just mostly suburbs and quietness
