Sony just released the LinkBuds, the donut-shaped ones. These are the LinkBuds S; it's the "same thing," but instead of being literally a donut, it uses microphones and software to relay the information around you while providing Active Noise Cancellation. Good job, Sony.

Technically the tagline of Linkbuds are "Buds that you basically never need to take off and can wear for hours". With the original Linkbuds, its for having that completely-open design so you can literally hear people talking without taking it off. With Linkbuds S, its by having the lightest thing around..... I really don't blame anyone for confusing it though with Linkbuds name and trademark kinda linked to the former one.

I've been using true wireless earbuds for years now, and I'd love to see fit testing include push-ups. I wear them when working out and push ups and even other exercises where there is a lot of tension in the muscles of my jaw push out the earbuds. Plus it would be entertaining to see the LTT team doing push-ups during reviews. Win, win.

I’ve actually been using the Sony WF-C500’s for work in my shop (my sister got them on sale for me around the holidays). But I’ve been using them with the foam ear tips for the XM4’s which has helped block some noise and keeps the fit tight in my ears. I kind of want to try these from the video, but I would also do the same (use the foam ear tips) cause for me they hold up better then the silicone ones on most earbuds.

The Linkbuds are for those who work at Warehouses such as a Tesla Gigafactory (I used to work there) its good because you had to be 100% aware of your surrounds but those shifts can drag on so music helps a great deal. So basically if your pockets are deep enough, you can have each buds for different uses/environments.

These are an improvement over the 1st gen buds. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxK5mc3yw4xA7Mf2j6k6n1Uqv_KUgrKdeM Pros: The fit is fantastic. This is the biggest plus. They stay in my ears when running and become unnoticeable. They are tight but comfortable. The sound quality is about the same as the 1st gen buds. They pair more easily with my LG G8 ThinQ and immediately reconnect when removed from the case. The sound balance is excellent, good but not overpowering base and clean mid tones and highs.Cons: The noise cancellation is good but perhaps a little less effective than the Bose ANC on the 1st gen buds. Passthrough mode as not as good as the 1st gen buds making it a little more difficult to hear conversations when in passthrough.

I got this a replacement for my work mono headset. Let me tell you, these are amazing. I set them up on the Sony headphones app on my phone and then connected them via Bluetooth to my Windows 10 work laptop.
By the time I plug them into my ears, they have already connected to the laptop & I can instantly start talking at the start of meetings. Everyone I’ve spoken to has said the mics are great. ANC & noise amp. modes both work by touching the left earbud.
My only gripe is I wish the right earbud could be configured to mute in any application such as Zoom, MS Teams, or RingCentral - that would make these probably the best earbuds for work.
Outside of work, they’re great of course. Very comfy, very lightweight.

I've been looking at these for a while, and just picked some up for $115 on Amazon. They were the last black pair. I started in a new work environment where the sounds bounce and echo really bad, making it challenging to hear clients sometimes. I was also considering the open back LinkBuds just because I still needed to hear client's and co-workers at times, but felt they weren't quite what I was looking for. Then I remembered these with the Transparency mode, and hope it will help pick up their voices better, and cut out the echo and bouncing sounds. It will definably be a true test for these things. Also, being someone who likes their peace and quiet, the ANC is really attractive for the times I just want to mute the world. lol

@@kcchiefsproductions8687 So, I have been enjoying them. It has taken me some time to really figure them out, but they do work well, but not as well as I had hoped for the environment I work in.
The ambient pass through is really nice, but wish the voice isolation part was better while cutting out background noise. Today I found setting ambient pass through to 4 with "focus on voice" on to work well.
I do like how I am able to keep a conversation going with someone while having calm/relaxing type music going at a low level, then when the conversation is done just turn "ambient sound" off.
I don't use the active noise canceling much, but it did work well in the test I performed. Battery life is acceptable, and with being able to charge an hour of listening time in 5 minutes is nice. The way I use them, the last me all day long, and more. The range is good, and I haven't had many drop outs or disconnects. All in all, I would recommend.

I bought the regular LinkBuds a couple months ago. Their unique design actually hurt my ears when I would put them in, sometimes they wouldn't stay in, even though I like that they could play louder than my old Raycon earbuds which broke when I dropped the case, and then the right earbud blew out (became distorted and unusable) Thankfully, I paid for the 2 year product protection and was able to return them. But the store didn't have the same product in stock, so they upgraded me to the LinkBuds S at no extra charge! They are SO much better. They are comfortable, have good volume, and the noise cancellation is amazing. My only complaint is they don't always respond to taps/presses, especially if you're wearing gloves (which I have to do at work) I would prefer a physical button instead of something touch-sensitive. Not being able to quickly mute/pause your media can be annoying.

So how would you rate the link buds S when you are on a call? Does their microphone catch a lot of background noise os does it focus well only on your viose (like the airpods do)?
I don't like always changing from headphone mode to phone mode when someone is calling...

On iPhone/iOS you can set a volume limiter to protect your hearing. Just go to settings>Sounds & Haptics>Headphone safety and then toggle on “Reduce Loud Sounds”. Then you can slide the slider to set the limiter. A good safe volume is 85db. Samsung has one but they frickin put a warning on your screen every time you turn the volume to “max” I.e the maximum limited volume. On iOS it doesn’t bother you it just acts like normal but the max on the volume slider is just 85db or whatever you set it to. Great feature and one of the things I really missed when trying to switch to android.

I mean, I enjoy the Creative Outlier Air V3's even though the case is a bit on the chonky size. Can't argue that it comes with tons of battery life, with said case. It also has the ANC and active listening features. I also find it beats the one everyone touts on RUclips, Raycon. Especially for value, I paid $80 CAD, vs Raycon being over $120 CAD. Pairing is automatic on them, so if your last used device doesn't have its bluetooth on, it will automatically go into pairing mode. It has quite a few functions for the touch sensitive controls. Single Tap, Double Tap, Triple Tap, Long Touch, I think there's a swipe gesture of some kind to turn on active listening. Granted I'm still learning all of its controls. The tap functions can also be customized, on each side.

I picked up a pair of Linkbuds largely due to Linus' review, and I think they're great. I listen to my music loud enough that the ambient sound still doesn't reach me, which partly defeats the point, but I've always preferred the sound quality of open-backed headphones. And I don't know if it's the fact that they're open, or if it's just good engineering on Sony's part, but they're really comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Sometimes I don't even bother taking them out when the music is off, because it's easy to forget they're there.

  • @CanIHasThisName

They make a lot of sense if you really think about the highlights. Good sound, good ANC, good Ambient. One of the smallest and lightest on the market, amazing comfort and at the same time still have great battery life (6 hours with ANC, 8+ without).
The problem, as it turns out, is Sony's quality control. They seem to be prone to failures. One of the common ones seems to be the left or right bud developing a "blowing" noise while ANC or AMB is turned on. It sounds like you were making a phone call and the other side was blowing into the microphone. Another issue they often have is that the bass gets randomly boosted on either one of the buds. Had this exact same issue on two different pairs, ended up returning them. Seen a number of people complain about the exact same thing, had people comment back to me about having the same problems as me.

IMO, it's less of a quality debate and more of a manpower kind of thing. Apple, the trillion dollar company, obviously has MUCH more resources, manpower and TIME to perfect the engineering and understand what their average apple user wants. And honestly you should think about how the first apple Airpods didn't have wireless charging... when EVERYTHING had it. To me that shows how long ago the overall design was fully finalized and approved from when they released it. Next year or two, wireless charging. And they charge you more for it, almost as if you have to pay their engineers' salary directly out-of-pocket. Also, the only reason Linus can't find a replacement is the case size. That's it.
Sony recently has been trying to perfect a certain niche of the market that Bose has, honestly speaking, been dominating so hard that they just became cocky and more Apple-like. The ANC market at this moment is going through a revolution thanks to companies like Sony, who already know how to make good audio, but are also implementing it where it matters; without forgetting to stay competitive.

Linus is the writer haha. And this is not supposed to be a review, just an unboxing/first look. And yeah, the title of the xm4 video is clickbaity, but on another video he said he felt the xm4 too big and uncomfortable to use while sleeping, which is his main use.

they look identical to my XM4s, and i hate how huge they are. i hate the touch pads. they should just put the buttons on the ffffffng side, but i love the ANC and Ambient Audio. are they any smaller?

I have the normal Link Buds and I really dislike their case, recycled plastic is cool and all but they could've made it feel more premium and have a better closing mechanism. The buds themselves are also weird to put in since I have to actually push them in instead of dropping them onto a magnet like my Galaxy Buds.

These would have been great if they had that "tap next to your ear" feature, like the previous Linkbuds. Tapping the earbud always seems finicky and/or uncomfortable.

The 1More Comfobuds Mini are smaller and have good ANC. Ive been using them for a bit and they have QI charging too, I like them.

Do headphones like AirPod pros that use active noise cancellation cause tinnitus? I read on Amazon they do but other places they do not. The Amazon was just a review

  • @wabash9000

These are pretty tempting. I have a trip coming up later this year and I haven't flown since my airpod pros died so I feel like I would miss ANC on the flights. I have some soundcore overear headphones with ANC and the ANC is excellent for sound directed at me. I can't hear people talking to me until I take them off, but they don't do anything for the faint background noise of my co-worker humming at his desk all day long. I have to have music playing at all times to block him out. I'm curious if they will work better for me.

@@TotalXPvideos I mention it like once a month and he always give the same stupid response 'I can barely hear myself doing it so I don't know how you can' I don't know either but the fact that I have to ask to stop means I can hear it and you should stop because it is really annoying.

I've tried the Samsung buds 2 but they felt too light, and felt off my ears way too easy, what do you guys recommend? I want something to use all day, and might last me as long as these buds. ty guys in advance.

I want Sony to do the around the neck anc ear buds. For when I’m weedwacking I wear earmuffs over for double hearing protection and so I can hear my podcasts at a good level. Also it keeps my controls at a quick access and room for bigger battery I want at least 14hrs out of a single charge so I don’t need to be paranoid to charge at break or lunch.
Lg have the best with no anc but there is still room to improve and think there waiting for someone to enter that space before making them perfect.

@@molarrr thank you WI-1000XM2 I’ll give them a try I’m not a fan of having the earbuds dangle so I can do lots of other construction things without worrying about the buds getting in the way. The lg design has been the best.
