Hmmm. Jazz? Not really. Not by a long shot. Oh well. North sea needs to sell tickets. Too bad our young people can't approach jazz. Unless 2 and 4 hits them in the face, and bass explodes their chests, they don't have a mind for it. Probably too much work to listen to it. Music is background noise to so many because of technology. Difficult for them to sit still in a room and actually LISTEN, THINK, APPRECIATE.

That's sad... but also contains a lot of truth. It's not just the young, though. At least they do make the effort to go out of the house at the weekend. I've made a concerted effort to get out and watch more jazz myself, recently - anyone playing a local music club or bar in my area (there aren't many at all). I've noticed that most audiences are there because they are visiting the venue to meet friends, eat, have a drink. The music is only ever background noise (not too loud) for talking over. No one except me ever seems interested, unless they are with the band. I have seen many really good players finish a set and I have been the only person left in the audience. A 'Rock band" playing the same cheesy covers that all the other rock bands play can at least pull in 20 people who nod their heads whilst drinking a beer. DJs playing the latest dance music can fill venues with 300 or more 18 to 23 yr olds every Friday and Saturday night...

You say Listen, Think, Appreciate but if you cant see the skill level of these musicians then you're a fool

you clearly do not know anything about Jazz....what Kirk is doing is scatting..that is the basic foundation of jazz rhythm...The Roots encompass everything jazz stands for and more...you see...this is real music...they are real musicians...this is 2018 you need to open your ears.
