Overall the main cause of all of these issues is companies having to report to shareholders, because legally any corporation has to be run for the profit of its shareholders. Look at borderlands 3, it's a 60$ (arguably) game that has more than 100$ of DLC
Helldivers 2 was an exceptionally rare example where the launch version was great and every subsequent patch or content drip made it a little worse every time
I 100% agree with you ! Beside that, if you say that politics should not get involved in a video game, you are going to make yourself enemies because there's people out there who WANTS to put politics in video games, and if you disagree with "them", then you are their enemy. Politics have honestly ruined almoust every entertainment business out there and I wonder when people had enough about it. Video games, movies or music should get you immersed to this whole new fantasy and enjoy the experience. It should charge you with positive feelings before you get sucked back into to real life issues.
The gaming market became really predatory once lootboxes & battlepasses became a thing bc people were forking over money left & right & the company just saw an increase in revenue which is a plus for them so they just started investing more into what gave them a profitable return but by doing so they sacrificed the artistic value of the game, usually scrapping the story, adding gimmicks or gambling mechanics. Alot of the games that come out now are designed to be more addictive than fun & people tend to share the same response someone w a smoking addiction has, they either hate the game they play but they can't stop playing it. Or they know its bad but continue investing time & money for the off chance it gets better. Its rare finding a game that focuses primarily on its entertainment value & artistic creativity to immerse you rather than keep you hooked w predatory business practices but when you find it that game becomes gold.

Completely agree with you, pipz. I play video games to escape the real life crap I see when it comes to politics. Having it in video games just feels unnecessary. I see other comments saying that it’s unavoidable, but I don’t agree. Speaking of balancing hell divers. I really enjoyed it before they started nerfing it, but I understood why they were doing it because of builds that they wanted to diversify the game. However, they did take the fun out of it. I believe since Johan stepped down to be the creative director and in charge of patches I feel that’s been a huge shift into what helldivers is now. if it wasn’t for Johann, this game probably would’ve failed. there’s still issues with the game however it’s so much better than what it was and now that they’ve gotten all the updates that they need other way they’re gonna probably still find a few more weapons and stratagems, but the game is now in a perfect spot. I believe that they can start introducing content. hopefully by the end of today or tomorrow we get the Death Star operational all companies should do what arrowhead and no man’s sky did. if you mess up on it own and say give us a chance and I believe these two did a really good job at proving that they can make and fix their content. Hopefully this trend of making good games before not after is a thing of the past.

The issues are rarely with the developers and usually with the publishers. Imposed deadlines and the capabilities of the dev team are frequently at odds. I have worked on a software team with similar restrictions and results. Everyone acts surprised when even in planning, the developers are like "this is what we can get done". And then changes happen during the dev process, usually enacted from publisher feedback and new requirements... The process gets off course, even a little, and planned elements don't get finished or are dropped. It happens even more for these "live games" because features get tossed on the after-launch roadmap. It sucks, but trust me when I say this, this is rarely the developers' decision to push the game out in this state.

The Golden age of games has passed, ofc most games look better today visually, but at the same time all games are completely empty inside. I thought we played games to disconnect from the bitter truth, but with politics shoved in your face even in entertainment, you have a hobby that gets ruined. Games used to be made by gamers for gamers, but today its made only to make profit for the company.
I understand the frustration with politics in games, as it is so often done so poorly nowadays, and having corporations pumping messaging into your living room everyday is exhausting. However, I think if you strip all politics out of a GOOD game, and this may sound strange, it will make it worse. Helldivers is a great example. Imagine if none of the clear tongue-in-cheek satire and dark humor was present, do you think it would improve the game? A lot of those moments are based in a criticism of militarism, and that is distinctly political. To do politics well in a game I think it's more a matter of sincerity, and actually having a pro-human message in a game, one that brings people together instead of tearing them apart. In my opinion the biggest content patch Helldivers 2 has had since release is the 60 day patch because it made more weapons fun to use, even though a lot of weapons imo still need some love looking at you AR's and smg's. It is not like Wow I got all these new toys to play with this is going to be so fun. Your comment is funny because many of us, many years ago said this exact thing would happen. Younger gamers don't know any better and they'll think everything is fine when it's not. The slow degradation has been happening since about 2012. At this point these companies are literally insulting us for not buying their games. We have a handful of fantastic games but that doesn't excuse the trainwreck that we're getting from the AAA companies.
Yeah I'm gonna have to say you don't know what's happening in the gaming industry, look at the amount of games that flopped this year alone and also XBOX has closed more studios down then made games. And that's crazy. You should do more research
@@TheReaI0ne oh yeah nvm, which is insanely stupid because it's lowkey not even good in 8-10 since there's very few hunter focused seeds. I'll take Crossbow or other harder hitting weapons over it any day even pre nerf.
Politics is a broad term. There's politics in half life 2, helldivers, halo.. but those are great games. Can you use an example? By politics do you mean a female main character? A gay character? A plot about working together to a common goal, or to overthrow evil overlords/masters? I'm being genuine here, not sure what you're driving at with the politics thing. I thought concord failed because it was another boring looking hero shooter with microtransactions and a battle pass system. I thought it failed because it was too late to an already at-capacity party. Again I mean this with respect and genuine confusion
I dont mean Historical events used in games like Metal gear solid for eample, I mean the modern era PUSHING naratvies from both sides, if u wanna have Bill klinton in a video game sure have him, and if u wanna say he turns into a mutant and than makes laws for mutants sure, but when ur ARTIFICIALLY PUSHING narratives and its in the game ONLY TO SNED A MESSAGE U FIND NECASSARY and is not well put into games... it sux ass
@@Crazymrpipz I agree with this. I wondered if you meant projects where the politics is the whole point, and the narrative and side characters are surplus to the main theme. Thanks for response.
politics in modern games are just plain stupid, unless they implement politics into the narrative the way metal Gear did then politics have no place in gaming. When I buy a game it's because I am either a fan of the franchise or the game looks fun and entertaining, not because of political viewpoints
You wanna know why "games suck?" Because mid content creators have taken the ball on this "politics are being shoved down my throat" narrative, which is NOT true, and using it for views and clicks. The BEST video games ever made had highly politically charged narratives, full of strong messages, powerful moments, and poignant motivation for characters to do things. Because "upgrading gear" and "numbers go brrr" ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS gets boring. Without fail. It always happens. Strong stories and lore drive the best games ever made, NOT upgrading, NOT progression systems, NOT gear drops, ALWAYS strong writing and stories. And ah yes, Concord, the immediate go-to of people who shouldn't be discussing this issue. Concord...a game that failed because of a saturated difficult market to break into, a product with zero build up or hype, and one that didn't change the paradigm or do any innovating. The "wokeness" of it was the LEAST of its problems, but go ahead, prop that up as the typical example of "politics destroying games." Much like how people ignorantly say "Destiny went woke" and that's why their playerbase is in the toilet, when again, its minimal level of "wokeness" is the least of its problems. Do better, bud. You're not good at this.
IF U MEAN metal gear solid and that kinda games yes, I mean modern politics which doesnt use political HISTORY but its a driven narrative on both sides do push different agendas on both sides and thats just not interesting at all
@@Crazymrpipzand games like bioshock and MGS did it smart with nuance and thought today they just bash you over the head with their message it’s different
"Whiny gamer wants power fantasy because politics are too hard." Gross takes down the line. Art(games) don't exist in a vacuum. Even a game like Fallout is literally about politics... As for the Helldivers complaints, you don't even play half the game, and functioned as a lightning rod for negative opinion. You complained about being unable to listen to a family member about politics and causing divide, but then go full entitled gamer rant lol
So because Concord was bad (I have not clue, I didn't play it, I never researched about the game, it never was interesting for me) games can't have politics. Well, games like The Last of Us are highly political and it was good. Everything in entertainment can be political and that's not bad per se, there are books, paintings, movies...why not videogames?, some people want stuff inside the closet, it's their problem, not our problem or videogames problem.
@@gorillagroddgaming and people like you are the reason we need games like those...and no, it's not a boring walking simulator, but your bias is astonishing.
well I should have specified better, if the writing is WELL DONE and politics feels like a part of the game and is CLEARLY a part of the universe, than it feels good because the writers made sure it wasnt just sending some IDEAS that THEY PERSONALLY BELIEVE iin but the goal was to make the game richer... HOWEVER... if the politics that are added to the game just feels unnatural and doesnt work in said UNIVERSE and is just put in there LIKE PROPAGANDA from any side btw... doesnt matter which... it can be religious or any kind... it shouldnt be there
It is nice to say that there should be no politics in the game while you can safely play the game and enjoy your careless life. It becomes different when bombs and misles are targeting your home. Than you start to care what games you play, what books you read what language you talk.

Jus to correct your info on the lowest peak players active on helldiver's 2 was 20k or 15k the most the lowest point plyers base that helldiver's 2 has had I know because I was still playing the game even when the fire shotgun got the neft and that's when everyone stop playing
incorrect, u can at any time jump into my discord and I can show u screnshots and u urelf can go back on steam and check it, its slightly over 5k
Helldivers 2 , space marine 2 , GTA online , Red dead online , battlefront 2 , assassin's Creed etc .
There's so many good games in my opinion , I'm 27 in been playing games since i was 4 🤣
Gaming today has been better then ever . But whatever humans cry about anything
Buddy some of those games are more than 10 years old or nearing it wtf are you on 😹😹
Remember when their reasoning for nerfing a weapon was because 30% of the player base was using it? Sigh
which one was that?
@@basedcringe9000 They nerfed the Breaker Incendiary for that reason, they said too many people were using it
@@TheReaI0ne oh yeah nvm, which is insanely stupid because it's lowkey not even good in 8-10 since there's very few hunter focused seeds. You just burn all your ammo on 2-3 alpha commanders per mag since they spawn literally everywhere and have a hard-on for summoning roided warriors.
I'll take Crossbow or other harder hitting weapons over it any day even pre nerf.
97 year olds ball sack!!
Best intro ever!! 😂😂👍🏻
@@byne2347 ya I should have explained it better haha :D
politics in modern games are just plain stupid, unless they implement politics into the narrative the way metal Gear did then politics have no place in gaming.
People existing is not a political statement, but complaining about them is. I was hoping you were above hating on woke.
Great video Pipz.
Preach bro
Nah we got metaphor
Preach!
I mean, I think it depends. But some of the absolute best games lean heavily into politics
@@jwmdlm07 ya exactly
The insane Woke people
"Whiny gamer wants power fantasy because politics are too hard." Gross takes down the line.
Politics is when gay peoepl and blue haired pronoun make game bad, unlike satire about american jingoism
The last of they/them isn’t a good game. It’s a boring walking simulator/movie game and is woke.
@@gorillagroddgaming and people like you are the reason we need games like those...and no, it's not a boring walking simulator, but your bias is astonishing.
@@DanMann-c5m Nobody talked about bad writing and games with bad narrative when they were about ridiculous male marines saying bad jokes.
well I should have specified better, if the writing is WELL DONE and politics feels like a part of the game and is CLEARLY a part of the universe, than it feels good because the writers made sure it wasnt just sending some IDEAS that THEY PERSONALLY BELIEVE iin but the goal was to make the game richer... HOWEVER... if the politics that are added to the game just feels unnatural and doesnt work in said UNIVERSE and is just put in there LIKE PROPAGANDA from any side btw... doesnt matter which... it can be religious or any kind... it shouldnt be there
sober video
Sorry i dont want your random gameplay over the video
No thanks

It is nice to say that there should be no politics in the game while you can safely play the game and enjoy your careless life. It becomes different when bombs and misles are targeting your home. Than you start to care what games you play, what books you read what language you talk.
