My dad had season tickets starting in 1977 when I was in 8th grade. I remember the beginnings of the chants, we were in the upper deck of Shea - Section 20 and different parts of the stadium would alternate the chant. There was even a guy who was known as "moon man" who would throw lollipops to the fans in the stands. Awesome memories and it IS the greatest chant in Professional sports!
At Shea, I recall a guy the fans referred to as “Mooney.” He would go to the upper deck railing, drop his pants, moon the crowd, then do the J-e-t-s thing. I don’t think we are talking about the same guy. I don’t recall any lollipops. I recall the guy always having a beer in his hand. He wore a rainbow colored fright wig.
@@smitskee Could be the same guy...over 40 years ago so memories are "fuzzy" We knew him a moon man - I do remember that...I guess mooning the crowd was appropriate for the nickname.
When the Jets left Queens they lost a bit of their identity. If they put the effort into building a Jets Stadium in Queens by Citi Field like they did the Manhattan West Side Stadium, which they never stood a chance of getting approved, the Jets would be in their own Jets only Stadium in Queens where they belong right now. Maybe one day it will happen.
Yes! Why did they go to Meadowlands! That is not their own Stadium! Jets deserve their own Stadium in Queens near City Field! I'm in California and I'm pissed they didn't build something there. But maybe one day? C'mon they need their own Stadium and Identity!
Great video. I"m 62 years old and have been a fan since 1972. My last name is Shea and I have been going to Shea Stadium since 72. I was devastated when we moved to "Giants" stadium. I did get to see Namath play in person until 1975 which was a trill in itself. Although injuries made him a shell of himself. I lived in the Bronx not far from the Whitestone bridge and would take the Q44 to flushing and walk across the bay bridge. Once in a while I would jump on the 7 train to save myself the walk. My son's and nephews are in the 30's now and kid with me they will never forgive me for "making" them Jets fans..lol.
Thanks, Guys! It is awesome that everyone learned your chant. I taught my son before be could walk. Then again, my little L.I. Irish knuclehead seriously started walking at 7 months of age. I was a cheerleader where we took it seriously. GET THE CROWD GOING TO SCARE THE OTHER TEAM! It works!!!!.😍😍😍
I remember back at shea in the upper deck a guy would walk down to the first row blow a whistle and throw marshmallows to everyone then do the chant. I was 9 and it was magic
When I was a kid we had season tickets in the end zone the one in the outfield... Maybe it was The sixties and there was an old black man that had a mega phone and he would get up and start the Jets chant that's where the chant started... But I do remember those two guys from shea the fans would chant to see who was the loudest side... Great memories
I was in three thirty Seven nearly twenty years The Jets have been my team since 1970s. I will always be the jet faithful. I'm living in Florida now, but it will always be JETS jets, jets, jets.We gotta t Appake a trophy home one of these years.Hopefully you'll be this year
Incredible crazy days at Shea! The football house built by Namath and the diehard Jet fans. My dad and brother would yell all game until our voices were shot the next day. 20 mins to game in the city! Another missed opportunity for city to build a world class stadium. Meanwhile the Mets got a beautiful stadium.
I used to sit near Don Schaeffer back in 1984 and 1985. He and his partner used to come just before kickoff and start throwing candy around to all of us. Those were good times!!!
It’s been years since my JETS have been 5-2🙏🏼, they winning this Sunday against the Broncos 10/23/2022🙏🏼. Let’s go!!! Trust the process👏🏼💯. GANG🟢GREEN! GOTHAM City!🏙️ Jet Up ✈️, J-E-T-S, JETS JETS JETS!!! ✌🏻🏈✊🏼🟢I LOVE MY JETS🥹.
When I was born my dad was and still is a giants fan . Even when the jets moved to nj he still enjoyed the giants games even though some of his friends still supported gang green . The giants have a superior record in Super Bowls and championships but when it comes to perfection the jets are one and zero
MetLife stadium is the new stadium and boy new york is the best in green!!! I even like the way a jet plane flies. Whether in free agency or the draft the new york jets are always growing in new york!!! I kept up with since Tim Tebow and Michael Vick came in 2012 and 2014!!! The Jets are a team that rebuilds and trys to fix problems each and every day. The jets are better than the 49ers and lions!!! I wonder if they draft anyone from UGA?
Not even the most loved football team in their own city; being led by a fireman who quit on his team when times got tough. The Jets were put on this earth for the world to pity.
The New York Jets moving from Shea Stadium to the Meadowlands was a giant mistake, Shea Stadium had totally everything, an old school field, it was very football fan friendly, a super killer noise factor and most importantly, the New York Sack Exchange!!
RIP Dom, thank you for the Jets chant

@@TL2354 at least it isnt as bad as litterally any soccer chant, using the exact same melody with different words each time

@@AQUAPHREESH193 The good old days for sure. I lived on Long Island, and later Manhattan. Loved the train access with the #7.
I love this fuckin team

Great to see Donnie Schaeffer, former NYPD, involved in this video. Schaeffer brought the cheer to Meadowlands and led the cheers from section 323.

Go JETS!
Now that's a Jet Chant!!
J! E! T! S! JETS! JETS! JETS!

LETS GO! 👏👏💪
Damn I was 14 years old oh best time of my life....
Don't care I will always love my Jets
Wow such a creative chant.....
Easy to spell
Simple and unique
Im not even a Jets fan but I like the chant
I can even remember some of those similar chants back in the day , when they had maynard, sauer, snell, sample, and boozer....
Love jets fans

Nick Schiraldi Well, the most loved team in NY is the Cowboys if you really want to get down to it
Nick Schiraldi fireman Ed still did it this year
@@asubscriber8305 Doesn't matter. He quit once; which shreds his credibility as a diehard/superfan to pieces. Quitting just one time is sin enough.
@@LetsGetMikey982 That wouldn't surprise me if that is true. Dallas's brand travels well.
Xander Kristo I guarantee there are more Jets Giants and Bills fans in NY than Cowboys. But Cowboys are probably #4, maybe Eagles
I had to respectfully disagree that the jets don't have a real home field advantage.

in Miami when the jets fans take over ... after the j-e-t-s the dolphins fans reply suck suck suck! lol
It wasn't Fireman Ed?
ShantyIrishman he kept it going but he knew the others who started it
Fuk no...
The chant hasn’t worked for almost 50 years.
Jets suck? Lol sounds like a buff a low fan
This chant was stolen from the Baltimore Colts
I remember that
Go Dolphins.
And then fireman Ed quit! What a bunch of scrubs
Joseph Cali no he dont he did it last night
I haven't seen that fraud in over a year
Ed a phony
Is he at the game now
Jets suck
They got the chant wrong it's JETS SUCK SUCK SUCK!
OMG ITZBLUEJAY nice spelling btw you bandwagon fan
