Good stuff as usual. How about a video on junior racing? Rules, gearing etc. My boy has just started and we can’t find any good RUclips videos on this subject.
been watching alot of bikefit james recently, his bikefit knowledge is another level! Any chance you can get him to do a saddle height video, as hes always banging on about it! And most of us are running our saddles too high!
Really good info. Nice to hear someone who genuinely knows what they are talking about while still putting a limit on what they feel qualified to do. Really cool video, thanks
Really interesting that someone like yourself that obviously knows his position so well and rides so often can still get adjustments that have positive effects, great vid.
Loved this video, James knows his stuff. I have problems with my shoes as well. but they are old. I am buying Sidi Genius 10. Looking forward to getting a proper fit. hopefully i can find someone here in Wisconsin. Thank you so much for this well done Video. you have won a new Subscriber.
Just catching up Lawrence. I think James is the boss. Absolutely love hearing him talk about the nuances of bike fit, show fit and the overall customization of achieving a comfortable ride. Thanks so much for the video. Well don my friend.
Just watched this. I really struggle with numb tingly feet while riding which totally puts me off riding my road bike and have ignored the problem for to long. Time to try and get it sorted.
James has explained this is Francis Cade's bike fit Tuesday video's. He says that it's a result of cleats to far forward on the shoe. And saddle height slightly too high. Lower saddle about 10mm and move cleats back on the shoe about 20mm.
Loving these episodes. James is a bit of a Dude and certainly seems to know his stuff. It’s been great seeing the bike fit with Sav and now these , shoe/clip fitting videos. I’ve been riding a mountain bike for a while but have just ordered a new gravel bike and I’m going for my bike and shoe fit this week. Thanks for the great content.
Those foot beds look quite nice, I am experiencing something similar, I bought a Sidis Shot 2 but I haven't managed to find the right cleat position and I don't feel comfy, on the other hand, I have a 10 years old Sidi ergo 2 and I feel in heaven with them, so disappointing.
I am in the process of buying new Sidi shoes in two days. Owner of Ergo 2 which fits me superb. Can do 14 hours ride without any problems. Now I am surfing in between Wire 2 and Shot 2. A bit worried not to get same perfect shies as Ergo 2 are.
Hey Lawrence, to fix the flickering issue, just change your camera’s shutter speed. If you shoot auto, put it in shutter priority mode (tv) and select the shutter speed that stops the flickering. If you are shooting 25p, you typically will be shooting 1/50th of a second on your shutter for most natural motion blur. You’ll just need to dial it faster or slower to fix the flicker. Just don’t go too far in either direction, otherwise your motion blur will be too much or not enough. :)
I really liked this video, I'd like to see more content like this. I was interested in his ideas about running saddles too high, I just dropped mine dramaticallyin a bike fit.
Hi Lawrence, yes enjoyed the video and would love to see more of this sort of stuff also more info about your Wiggins race programme / plans for this season? Love your little cycling clan - makes me wish I was 20 years younger and a bit closer to Kingston and Richmond.
Superb Lawrence, James is extremely knowledgeable & those G8's will be in my Fizik R1's (yes I know James, expensive lesson learned) in the next couple of weeks I think.
Enjoyed the informative video. What strikes me odd is paying 200 pounds for a new pair of cycling shoes and then another 50 pounds for insoles. I would expect the new cycling shoes would be selected or fitted to accommodate for any anomaly’s.
If I didn't see the his face and the inside of room, I'd swear James was a different person to what I see in bike fit Tuesday videos. Totally different persona.
A other good video Lawrence. It has got me thinking, I have some Sidi's and my right foot is widerr than my left so went for wider shoes, but don't feel right.
Yeah, sometimes it takes weeks to months to zero in on the correct position. You know you are on when after riding 100 klms you're not sore anywhere. I'm mean sure you feel that you HAVE used the muscles in your legs and rest of body but you are surprised at the fact that there are no pains anywhere. This is when you know your on the mark.
Have exactly the same problem with pain on the outside of my right foot, to the extent i cant put weight on it after a 25 mile ride. Do i need insoles?
Be interested to know why you only had problems with the new Sidi shoes & not your old Giro's Do the Giros come with better foot beds. And no mention of changing your pedals for more foot support either.
Hey Laurence! Bike fit and cleat position question. So I have been only riding with cleats and bike shoes for two years/three years. I have a couple of pairs of bike shoes, a road bike shoe and a Mt bike shoe. I cant seem to put the cleats far forward enough as compared to my position with non cleated shoes, by about a few of mm or so. So do people with high arches generally position their cleats more forward? I'm ordering those arch support by the way because my shoes never have proper arch support. I don't have any pain. And I want to keep it that way as I get older and continue to cycle more.
I noticed you used a 3 - hole shoe for your speedplay. Does the Speedplay adapter add more stack height then if you d have a 4 hole sole ? Curious if a 4 hole speedplay specific sole would be less stack height and more backwards adjustment?
I have just got a pair of Lakes after my previous pair have seen better days. The previous shoes were fitted in 2013 and the shop was in an BMW/Mini dealership in North London but the chap was (pretty sure ) called James (Just checked and it was James Hewitt). Not sure if its same person but would appreciate having the new shoes fitted also. I checked the Richmond Bicycle website but no longer working. Not sure if he's doing fittings now. Anyone help please ?
Great interesting video. It would also be interesting to have a follow up in the future to see how much your fit issues have actually been addressed. No body ever seems to do a follow up video! Are they too dull or is the fit not as effective as first hoped?
Ahhh I need to have my shoes custom fit! I have really hi arches and I find I have my cleats as far forward as possible, and one side is angled much different than the other.
How would James fit someone with odd width fit. 118mm Left 110mm Right. Would going wide/extra wide to fit the left foot compromise the fit of the right foot and how would you hit a happy medium.
Love this bike fitting stuff...did you find the g8 insole reduced the shoe volume significantly? It looks a lot thicker than the sidi it replaced....., Interested on how you Get on with these insoles...
very informative, whats james' view on bont boat like carbon soles that are heat mouldable. Do bonts give the range of supports what fancy arch supports do with regular arch support?
How would James approach problems with 'flat foot' or collapsed arches? Also does he have anything to say about weak dorsiflexion in the ankle - how important is ankle flexibility when riding and can he offer any ways to combat poor flexibility?
Like the cool looking sidi shoes , how do they compare on weight to the giro empires? Own some sidi wire shoes, but was thinking buying a lighter brand next time?
I wonder what James could suggest for me Lawrence. I'm 48 and have had a leg length difference since 16 years old due to a badly broken tib/fib that was not corrected. About 1.5 inches. I ride ALOT and suffer constant frontal knee pain. Would trying to correct this now cause more problems or should I just suck it up and ride on?
@@bbikerlawrence definitely- he knows his stuff so we can all learn the tidbits we can pick up in the videos :) tbh I dont get any pain but I do get pins and needles in my hands
what I feel is if you don't go to a fitter like James. There is almost no point in watching these videos. There are lots of information with which you can not do anything. But I am still watching this.
Paw James, had of dog of a job there, your foot was bent like a dogs hind leg, bit hairy there fo a while, but James with his skill clawed his way back to a solution! Lol!!!
Not sure if even James could help with my feet. Born with 11 toes (one removed shortly after birth), so ended up with 2 completely different sized and shaped feet! (one short and wide, one kinda normal) I usually have to buy 2 pairs of shoes and discard 2 of them to even get close. Any ideas, or am I just fooked? ;)
This will probably never get seen but anyway. Viewer feedback: when someone is talking about/manipulating something tangible, show us the something. Took for ever for us to find out what the Australian thingies were or looked like. Earlier James was marking your new cleat position and talking about it but we couldn't see what he was doing. Also, missing from the video IMO is your verdict. Maybe it will come in a later video but it would kinda makes sense to end this one with an evaluation of the fit. Other than that great. A good shoe fit is hard to achieve so this helps a lot. Thanks.
“These sunglasses don’t fit”
James: “Try lowering the saddle”

Best Video James has ever done with you Lawrence. Very informative and practical.

James rocks. So much knowledge...
It is flickering because your shutter speed is syncing with the lights, just change it up or down a click, it should disappear. (Common problem)
More knowledge bombs being dropped by James. Look forward to seeing your complete bike fit being done.

Only as good as the person looking at the data....I've seen alot of Retul fits that lift the saddle as high as possible and slam the stem...
