I can definitely attest to both most of the Oathmark box kits, as well as the Oathmark rules!
It is arguably what actually pushed me into the hobby, finally, after watching other’s paint and play Wargames for the longest time.
I frickin' love North Star Miniatures. I have bought ten kits by North Star, and two didn't live up to my hopes, but are still essential kitbashing kits. Stargrave stuff is crazy detailed, their newer kits are brilliant 'n sharp. Perry minis are great as well, really finely made.
Oh yah they're both great! On their own I find the frostgrave stuff a bit too "heroic" scale and "cartoony" to fit with middle earth minis, but once you kitbash them up they work great!
i was lucky enough to meet both the Perry Brothers when I was 15. To launch the new Covent Garden (London) store in 2005 they held a painting competition and both the brothers attended as judges. I came third place in the under 16 category and won a free 'how to paint citadel miniatures' book and had them both sign it.
Oh that is super cool! Definitely would love to meet them one day
@@AndurzTalksHobbies they’re both wonderful people. Have you ever been to warhammer day? I’ve gotten to meet a lot of people there before- Alessio Carvatore, Dan Abnett amongst some- although it was many years ago like maybe 2004/05
Great Rhudaur conversions!
Can't wait to see the full army painted 😁
Thanks man! And yah, I'm getting really excited for the finished project (if there ever is a finished product :P )
Thanks to plastic's incredible flexibility now we can pratically make our figures, with the evergrowing ranges of plastic boxes the ONLY limit is our fantasy. Now there are a lot of choices, the good thing is that they are mostly compatible, so you can mix various pieces, f.e. NorthStar barbarians with Wargames Atlantic Cannon Fodder or Goths, and you've a group of Mad Max like warriors.
Are you going to give the Oathmark rules a try? It’s a great Tolkien-style mass battle game and you can basically use an existing MESBG army.
Definitely thought about it! But I suck at reading rules.... one day :P
There were a lot of great moments in this video, but just casually mentioning that this absolute sculptor legend lost his arm from a cannon accident takes the crown like damn
Anyway, really loved what you talked about and showing a couple alternatives for people! I've been trying to use a few different fireforge minis to supplement some of the less loved and more expensive models from the Middle-Earth range as well *KhandCoughKhand*
Yah the perry Brothers are ridiculously cool.
And yah would love to use more firforge stuff, the steppe warriors would make great laketown militia! They're just hard to come by here in Canada!
Oathmark make some great LOTR minis for a more dark age astetic. I have that game and Warlords of Wrewhon. Both fantastic games. Old World is coming out and I’m using mostly Wargames Atlantic and 3D prints for my army.
Oh yah both wargames atlantic and Oathmark are big go to's for me. And I've used some 3d printed stuff and would love to get more into it, but I just can't bring myself to get a resin printer
Good looking mini's. I'd probably glue my fingers together with those tiny parts. The shards of Narsil is interesting. I would have went with a deer head... Losrandir.
Oooh, thats a great idea, losrandir.... may have to name a battle comlany character that or something
Frostgrave Cultists. LOVE that kit!
This conversion series has been very inspiring
Thanks so much! I've loved working on them all
Nice to see more variety in the LotR universe -so many unreleased minis that never made it
Absolutely! feel like people can have a bit of tunnel vision when it comes to tolkien stuff, but there's just so much potential out there!
Two things puzzle me: What secret dimensional portal do you access to store all your "bits boxes" for decades? Also, what is the location of the money tree that you harvest so you can afford to buy and not build so many minis?
Answer 1, a messy closet and bins :P
Answer 2, no tree... just sales and cheap secondhand lots of Miniatures!
My biggest gripe is the scale.
These 28mm just don’t scale well with AoS
I love some of frostgraves and Oathmark infantry sets. I find you can get a hell of a lot more variation to make far more unique minis when compared with often fairly linear design of the games workshop mini’s…
However, I’m currently creating my own board game, which is an amalgamation of hero, quest, and Spice crusade. I have one fantasy setting, one space, W40K setting.
I’m creating my own board game, only because I couldn’t be bothered to learn the rules for any of the official age of Sigmar or games workshop games. So I thought I just taken accessible template like hero, quest and just build on that.
But, I problem is is that I’m wanting to create some unique hero type units for both settings. And I find oathMark and Frostgrave mini’s allow me to do that.
And I’ve got some great miniatures.
But I have to admit they do not scale well with age of Sigmar. Even compared with a human steel helm, most of frostgrave or Oathmark full-size, humans look like dwarfs in comparison.
I really wish there was an alternative to games workshop models that scaled well with age of Sigmar., And games workshop, minis as a whole ….
Urrrrghhhh
Man they are incredible. Definitely inspired me to start my early Numenorians.
Thanks! And Do it!
That shirtless guy would make a great Helm Hammerhand proxy for a Rohan army, or even a stand alone as legend had it he would range out hunting orcs in the night.
How does GW compare size wise with reaper bones in whiz kids miniatures?
They run a bit big I think, but it's hard to tell as they vary so much than it's a bit case per case
Love the video and the mini's you did. I've been telling people the same thing for a long time. It's part of the reason I stopped buying GW minis for the most part, and like most gamers I have a large back log of unpainted stuff to finish.🙏😇🇺🇸
Gdubs profits are down by 1.39 Billion, probably due to the Nurgles plague around the world.
I'm looking at getting into Lotr mesbg & like the idea of making my own wraiths as you've done.
Also
Amazon is working on a Lotr TV series apparently costing in the region of a billion.
I bet Gdubs make miniatures for the TV series.
Yah it would be nuts if they didn't as it just makes so much sense. The only way I could see if not happening is if Amazon bundles miniature/tabletop rights into general boardgames and such and goes for another big company like fantasy flight to do it all. As Amazon's really big, and a niche wargame probably isn't big on their priorities.
Cause yah, at the end of the day they're all just big companies making as much money for as little effort as possible, regardless of how passionate or excited the people on the ground floor might be... not to be too pessimistic:P
I got the Frostgrave Soldiers as Cities of Sigmar proxy. You can have the best of both worlds
@2:20 who is that reaper king Skeletor in red like figure ??? Looks great!
It's Eredin from the Witcher video games. Mcfarlahe toys did figures based on them fir a while
@@AndurzTalksHobbies cool to know and thanks! More Arnor please! Love the celtic and different use of kits. :)
Great Video!! Really love your videos and your projects!!
Thanks so much!
Hey where do you buy these? I have them shipped overseas but I’m wondering if theres a US retailer
What was the brush for? The one which looks like nailpolish?
Oh that's my glue, think it's the extra thin stuff from Tamiya and comes in a little glass bottle with an applicator brush
North star minis are nice, but they're so small compared to non-LoTR GW minis.
Well said
This is so crazy. I watched this video like a week ago, and it really gave me the inspiration to make some Angmar faction models, and also go back and complete the Rise of the Witch King video game. I did that, then went out to find some suitable models for one of the ingame factions, and I decided Rhudaur.
What I picked up were also Frostgrave. Except they were the Barbarian figures, not the soldier figures as seen here. It’s as if we have different interpretations, based on reading the lore, vs playing a game based on the War of Angmar.
This Rhudaur army looks great!
Thanks! I'm really treating these guys as a kind of Rhudaur mark 1, as they'll be mixed into my angmar army. Eventually thought I want to do a full arnor army with 4 different styles (3 kingdoms and unified arnor).
BTW... love your podcasts! Just listened to the whole 3d printing episode and getting ready for a medbury minis order soon :P
@@AndurzTalksHobbies Thanks! Since my Medbury October patreon came through, my printer has been going non stop. Hopefully you like them! Probably won’t need to buy Minas Tirith warriors just to steal the swords anymore.
Reject premade, embrace scratch build.
Words to live by!
Gw is great…. Warhammer aos inspired me to start Table top war gaming.. after a year I bought my first Troop of ironbreakers but the thing is it was $50 for 10 minis… I knew if I wanted a army I was looking to spend atleast over 200-300 for a 2300 point army at least… until I found ManticGames Kings of war.. man looking at Mantics prices makes me say Wow those are cheap and I’m looking at 70 Starter armys for 70-80 bucks sometimes 50 Dollars, Never did I think 80 bucks for a army is CHEAP… if it wasn’t for Gw I would have thought those were expensive
Nicely done!
Thanks man! We're really fun to put together, and we'll definitely be seeing some more soon!
Gaelic? Not Gaulish or Brythonic?
What about both we Can use both right?
Whatever your heart desires! :P
Incredible work friend of mine, will you work with elves miniatures??
Thanks! And just so it happens... I've been thinking alot about potential elves lately and have a few ideas.
Ultimately, I'd like to make some elves and Gondorians to represent the forces finally coming north to help/avenge Arnor, but that may be a while down the road as I got a lot of different projects going right now!
Great video - some inspiring ideas!
Ah man, thanks so much! Always awesome hearing that from you! BTW, if you ever want to do something video related together I'm 100% for it!
That's cool! Sorry I'm late dude I was working on a Holloween stop motion special for my yt channel
No worries! Just happy to have you round!
@@AndurzTalksHobbies thanks!
I... don't think I have ANY GW fidures in my Middle Earth project. It's all kitbashed from historical and fantasy sets.
Yah, with just little adjustments historicals work so well in the middle earth setting
@@AndurzTalksHobbies Yep! I took the Late Roman helmets from Gripping Beast and added some green stuff to both sides of the central ridge to make some tall helmets for my Noldor.
I have recently discovered Wargames Atlantic and I live their Conquistador models. I’m building some for a game Called Warlords of Erewhon. They are also great on the wallet. Thanks for the bid. Consider me subbed
Oh yah they're on my list, that and their upcoming ogres, gorgeous models! And yah I've seen the WoE stuff (got the orcs from that line) and have been curious about the game
4mins in you said Oathmark was under Warlord...
Oathmarks miniatures are under North Star (same as Frostgrave)
Yah my bad... one of my local shops has them all listed as under warlord so it got me confused, though they may have acted as a distributor
@@AndurzTalksHobbies I think warlord do distribute them too... I might have seen them listed on their site under their fantasy game heading but using the oath are boxes.
On a history side note the warlord orcs were "wargames factory" way back (might help people looking for more reviews of them)
@@fatrobin72 yah I saw that, feel like the whole warlords of erehwon line is just repackaged from other companies :P
@@AndurzTalksHobbies yeah the orcs, undead and samurai were wargames factory, I think they also have the Saxons and Vikings in their hail Caesar line was also (memory a little fuzzy there)
Is there a paint tutorial?
Not yet! Will be soon.... maybe... eventually :P
You do realise that Games Workshop's name amongst British Wargamers, Even among fans of Games Workshop itself, has often been changed to "The Joke Shop " because their prices make people Laugh and ask "You're joking aren't you?"
Lol! That sounds about right :P
In this game you have to accept proxies. There are very few new models, and the old ones don't look interesting and are expensive. It's great that third-party companies have started creating models for this system. GW should lose the license and give it to someone who cares.
Back when I was playing the LoTR game back in the 2000s, the plastic options weren't many, but, of course, proxies were
So I used Moors for Haradrim, Hiberno Norse for Dunlendings, Romano British for Gondorian Levies etc
GW is, and always will be, the Evil Empire, good stuff, but over-priced, often limited poses when you need a lot
That all sounds perfect, and very in thème with the world and books.
Stop using GW models, 3d print your own!
what spoonful of something did you put in your coffee?
... If I said brown sugar would you believe me?
@@AndurzTalksHobbies Yes and i bet its tasty
Completely 😒👍..Lol
3D Printing is the way to go from here on out!
Oh yah, totally. I meant to mention that in the video but kept forgetting to edit it in! Really need to get around to getting a printer...
I would never have bothered with fantasy and sci fi if I'd known about all the historical stuff you could get, I hate fantasy
Yah historical stuff is such a great resources as there' so much and it's generally a bit cheaper. Also they fit really nicely into ME suff as it's generally more grounded visually than some other fantasy stuff
@@AndurzTalksHobbies did you know that games workshop shares have gone through the floor? think its down to victrix and the like, wish to god I'd bought some when they were only £12 each when they had that price hike and got out before the dip
Rhoo'dowr.
Not Rhoo'dore.
What about Rootdewer?
