Sunflowers are my favorite flower.🌻🌻🌻 Yours looks great! I encourage everyone who is a little intimidated to give this a try. I think it is important to try new things. It is very rare on You Tube to see any sort of applique tutorials. I suppose because it takes some time. But it definitely makes ones quilt look more complicated and interesting. This row by row quilt is the perfect quilt to experiment on because you do not need to make so many appliques. Thanks for taking the time Jean to encourage people to do a technique that requires a little more time and patience without overwhelming them. ☺
Thanks so much Jean the sunflower appliqué is just lovely. I have always been afraid to try applique but you make it look so simple, can't wait to give it a try. I Enjoy watching your videos. Thanks again for your great tutorials.
I like the sunflower block! I am glad you didn’t use the rainbow colored rick rack! The orange you chose goes with the sunflowers! This was a great tutorial for beginner appliqué!
Very nice Jean. The sunflowers look great. I have never felt comfortable with appliqué but I am now determined to give it another go. I’ll let you know how it goes. Take good care 🏴
The tulip/sunflower block is beautiful. It is 😂an interesting detail I like. I also am trying to learn to relax and enjoy my projects and if they have a few “bumps in the road” then who cares. It took me years to get there.
I'm so pleased you can enjoy your craft ~ LIFE is too hard to bring that angst into our creative process! Enjoy, don't sweat the small stuff and remember that Perfection is VERY much overrated and stressful:) thanks Jane:)
Also remember that only you know where the "bumps in the road are". Nobody will know unless you point them out. Just enjoy that you made an amazing quilt from your hands!!!
Yes, we are having a wonderful time between Hershey and Lancaster. The RV park we’re staying at is in between both places. We’re members of Thousand Trails so it didn’t cost anything. We’re enjoying the homemade bread we bought at one of the Amish farms. I can’t believe how many quilt stores are in the area. We even have one down the road from the campground that I didn’t notice before. I hope I have time to check it out. Went to Hershey Park and rented a scooter and the price was cheaper than all the other parks we’ve been to. Heather and Brandon would like to check out knoebels next time. Did I spell it correctly? Looks like a fun park although I don’t go on many rides anymore. Hershey at least had some rides I could go on and they had a cute Sea Lion show.
Aw so pleased you are having a good time Linda:) Much needed break, I am sure ~ or at least a change of scenery (with a quilt shop here and there thrown in!!) LOL! We love Hershey Park ~ enjoy the sky ride too overlooking the park. And yes, Knoebles is just super! Old fashioned, free to get in, free to park, free to picnic and lovely all around;)
@@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory My husband was talking about leaving our RV in the park because he’s having such a good time. I told him that wouldn’t work. His family comes for over a week in July and we use the camper for some of the family to stay in. Plus, we like to take our grandkids to a campground nearby for some weekend trips. Thanks for the info about knoebels. My husband grew up in Allentown and he never went there.
I agree, you should take it home. You may (or may not) remember, that we had a 38 foot Pace Arrow RV which we took on many a vacation (along with a pop up camper towed by our older kids). That way we had the 6 little kids with us in the RV and the 4 older boys in our family van. It was wonderful to have in our driveway for guests. When Super Storm Sandy hit, ALL the power went out in the neighborhood...we pulled the RV up to the door, turned on the generator (along with two out in our back yard) and had lights, fridge and I cooked for the family. It was SEVEN whole days before the power went back on. Neighbors lost all their food, etc. That was before the average household thought to have back up generators. Our RV REALLY came in handy, sitting in our driveway!!
So great to see the masterpiece unfold! I am learning so much. I especially appreciate the ode to imperfection in creativity! The applique concept has given me the knowledge to 'just do it' and enjoy the process!!!
I think you should re-watch this video and count how time your said leaves instead of petals....LOL I love the pretty fabric that you used on the sunflowers and the rickrack...well done Jean.
Wow Jean you are certainly doing do fantastic job putting your row quilt together. I love everything about it. Fantastic job, thanks for sharing with us. 👍❤️😊
Hi bubbly Jean thanks for this video actually lifted my spirits today. Yes it is easy to trace around an image and they look very impressive. Lots of love from London. Xx
I have sewn for many years and still mess up on appliqué, getting the glue side on the right side and having to think if it is a mirror image or not🤪 . So it is always helpful to watch again! I am an old ‘dog’ still learning. Your repeating is helpful to me!
Oh no!! Watch that silly glue side Cheryl!! LOL! Thanks for the encouragement to 'keep repeating myself'. Sometimes I get tired of me repeating myself!! LOL! LOL! But it is good for people learning I think! :)
I liked your little clothes line, can't wait to see what you do. Your a hoot, love watching your video's and seeing your family news. From Raye S. in Glendale AZ.
The Sunflowers look great! I have tried applique before, but it'll be nice to design my own. My Row Along with Jean Quilt is on hold while I finish another big project. I look forward getting more of it completed though, as I have all my fabrics ready to go. Thanks for sharing you skills so generously, and giving us "permission" to be imperfect. LOL 😛😜 I love that. 💝
Good Afternoon Jean. I hope all is well. I’m doing well. It’s another rainy day here in Delaware. I love the sunflower block too, now I got my work cut out for me 😂, but I will get on with it 😀. I love what you’re doing to help us learn all we can in sewing and quilting. Thank you so much for all you do. I wish you and your family a lovely evening and weekend. Stay and I will be waiting for the next video. Love From Quilting Friend Faith Johnson.❤️😀🧵🪡✂️
We need the rain here in PA!!!! So many hot days, with only an occasional scary thunderstorm blowing through. The rain is good for gardens:) Hope you are well and taking one day at a time:) Hugs:)
This is a lovely quilting idea. I'm working on a blue & white baby quilt for a new great nephew arriving in August. I will definitely try one of these Row along quilt designs in near future. I really like the look. By the way I didn't notice your artistic design choice in the churn dash square. It's not so noticeable. Row on Jean , I also really like the checkered divider rows .
Hello Jean, Ooh, how lovely it is to tune back to your videos after 5 sad, tiring, stressful days away from home, dealing with a difficult nephew and the funeral itself. Just so glad that it was all over and we are now back in my peaceful home, catching up with your sweet, happy, colorful inspiration that brings my heart full of smile and joy. I may not make comments on your previous videos as I need catching up, but I am commenting on this most recent one. I really love your finished tulip block, also the sunflower blocks look so pretty. My word Jean, you really show the care and detailing how to do the applique step by step by step which no doubt everyone who tunes into this, must have their appreciations, I, certainly do. Thank you Jean. Listening to your video brings such a breath of fresh air. How is Ian, Maxwell and all the Trueloves? I do hope you are all keeping well, and the atmosphere where you are is clear from that cloudy, smokey air from the recent fire in Canada. ❤❤❤ Thelma
Thelma, I was thinking about you and your last few bit of a nightmare weeks.....:/ So pleased it is behind and I'm sure people were glad of your loving support. You need a drink!! LOL! Thanks again for commenting and watching us:) Whatever it is that we do:)
Very nice tutorial on appliqué! I especially love the bit about literally tracing from your computer screen. I’ve totally done that and I think it is such a great way to get simple shapes. I remember a video of yours from a long time ago in your family home where you showed us how to do this. I believe you traced a rooster and then took us through your whole process from start to finished quilt. Really cool! I even remember one of your sons coming into your sewing room and helping you reshape the rooster’s tail feathers a bit and you were very pleased with the outcome. I think you hung that wall hanging quilt in your home that you rented from your son (that flooded🙁). Do you still have that sweet rooster quilt?
Yes Anne, I still have the Rooster hanging up here in our stairwell as well as my Penny Farthing quilt and the Heart Collage quilt:) I made room for them:) You have a great memory! That was our #5 son, Eliot, who came in and helped:)
Thank you Jean for your kindness. Thelma ❤❤
Any time Thelma:) Thank YOU:)
Its looking really great ❤

Aw thank you Sunflower Baby:) I think simple easy shapes and the raw edge method are quick and very satisfying ways to 'interest' up a quilt:)
Awesome!!! I love that quilt behind you!!!
Aw thanks so much:)
Hi Jean! I love how the sunflowers came out! Just lovely 💗💗
Thanks so much 😊
I love your artistry!
