  • This is my first flight in the JF-17 Thunder from Deka Ironworks Simulations, I also share my first impressions of the jet. So far I am super impressed by the work Deka has put into this quirky little fighter with an interesting history.
I believe that the Thunder is going to become a favorite of DCS World pilots, for its simplicity, forgiving flying characteristics and vast array of unique weaponry. Congrats to Deka on releasing their first module. I look forward to the proposed Block II variant with a refueling probe to extend this jet's short legs!
Enjoy my first flight in the JF-17 Thunder!

Thanks Spudknocker - An interesting perspective on an interesting aircraft design. At first glance the JF-17 seems to be quite out of place here in 2020. This is considering its obvious mashup of vintage 1960s-1970s Western warplane design/styling and lack of 21st century technology such as thrust vectoring, stealth, etc. But since it has modern weapons and decent avionics, appears to fly well, and with a much smaller price tag than US/European offerings, the JF-17 seems like a great effort by Pakistan to help keep rival India on its toes. I can certainly understand why Pakistan is proud of the JF-17.

    • @lockhandel
      @lockhandel 3 года назад +7

The whole design theory was to have an aircraft that could be easily upgraded over time to include all the modern weapons systems that the Chinese could offer, like 200km+ BVR air to air missiles, powerful AESA radars, electronic jamming, targetting pods, head-mounted displays, and the list continues. In modern combat, if a fighter jet is which has more situational awareness, and is more aggressive, will come out on top. This regime for air-to-air combat will continue for the foreseeable future, and jets like JF17, will not be behind in this race. Good job Pakistan Aeronautical Complex!

you have summed it up very well from a neutral perspective and limited information.
people involved in the project throughout the different stages of its life cycle are really proud of it. its a big deal for a country that had limited infrastructure to develop entire fighter jet inhouse.
it as never meant to have stealth and thrust vectoring. not many western 4.5 Generation jets have them either. but what it does have like many other western jets is AESA radar and BVR capable missiles..

Wow, such a nice review, makes me proud of our achievement. It was a single guy’s dream, ACM shahid Latif, who made the shift from Super 7 , which was just a buffed up mig 21 to the Jf17 , given his experience with the F16 , he modeled almost everything he could and better where possible in as limited a budget as he could. That’s an inspirational story in itself. Of course Kudos to the Chinese engineering team which designed a nifty jet and mated all the components sourced from all over the world still work in a straightforward, no bullshit manner. Actually PaF s pilots used to stress on airshows when asked why jf17 has no twin seater, that its such an easy plane to fly that you don’t need a twin seat for training. PAF itself used simulators to train pilots on it for Operational conversation on the type and this mod by Deka shows it in true spirit.

I was waiting for a jet like this. Its really fun to fly the hornet, the viper and the mirage but the FBW system takes out raw fun factor of flying these birds. A LOT of capabilities sure , and pretty cool to use and know all the systems , but when it comes to pure flying experience it lacks imho. Something like the Tomcat is fun for sure , the best flying experience so far in dcs but then again lacks in modernity.. The JF-17 is like a sweet spot that no other aircraft has atm in DCS. Im so glad a new player like Deka comes in and add this beauty. Like a breath of fresh air.

As a interesting fact, this aircraft gave CAC so much experience of developing their product for PLA airforce. Shenyang Aircraft Corporation was the major dealer in China before that since they totally made SU27 domestic as PLA's major air superiority fighter. But after JF17 as a huge step for an export fighter, many variants for J-10 (recently fitted with thrust vectoring), now they produce J-20, a stealth fighter that everyone in China respect. JF17, although being a small step, definitely helped a nameless aeronautical corporation achieved their leading role in Chinese military aircraft industry.

Great video. I am still trying to make up my mind on getting this one. While searching for the second cargo, I would have love you to test out the air to ground radar on SEA mode to find the target. I have only gone through Chuck's guide and I am not sure how the fuel indicator works but noticed something on the leftward totalizer indicator on the EPI1 page. Indicator was like half point on the indicator after second bomb release but at 40.00 on the video track, fuel total indicator went almost full again.
Does this aircraft comes with default hotas key bind that you could modify to your preference? That usually provides an easy platform to start with. Thanks for sharing.

One important thing to mention, it was Air Marshal Shahid Latif (Someone who was a squadron leader then and flew Pakistan's first ever F16, when they were acquired from the US on 15 January 1983) who made it a reality ( of course the chinese were asked to be partners). So Pakistan Aeronautical complex ( PAC) and Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) jointly developed it.
    Cheers :)

Pakistan had years of expertise of flying f-16s and other western jets.
So they knew about those western technologies very very well.
So they set f-16 as a benchmark and worked on jf-17.
China didn't had and still don't have any real air fight experience and had no experience of western technology but they had one thing which was there hardware manufacturing infrastructure.
So Pakistan used it's experience, software ,designing and brain while utilising China's hardware manufacturing capability.
So finally the jf-17 was made...
Waiting for jf-17 block 3 passionately.
