Tried unplugging aftermarket Radio. No luck. Bypassed radio on K Line. No luck.
Unplugged ABS module. No luck.
Using my LARA, and 2 Autel tools. No communication. OBD 2 fuse is good. Accessory fuse is good.
My LARA diag computer worked great on last several Gallardos. Zero issues. This car refuses connection.
Hopefully they didn’t do the all too common “ground the new radio thru the CAN wiring?”
There is a channel I watched for as long as it ran called New Level Auto and the guy who ran it dealt with many many CAN line issues. I distinctly remember that his go- toolset for a job like this was a Break Out Box on the datalink connector (OBD2 port), wiring diagrams and the datalink pin out diagram so he could find the CAN bus pin / pins and just know what should be live on the breakout box and what shouldn’t be, and a scope to see what is going on in real time.
His diag method from there was to locate where the datalink connector was on the in relation to everything else on the CAN line / lines and then find the easiest place to split the system in half with a fuse or at splice / connector just to figure out what side of the line he is working with and continue narrowing down where the communication issue is coming from that way. Lamborghini might be stingy with their wiring diagrams which would make this difficult though. I highly recommend checking out his videos on communication problems on his channel though. I am nobody, he is the one who made successful communication diagnoses on what is likely 1000-10000 cars.
Scope on lines to see voltage levels ?
It may just be a connector problem, try canned air or manual pressure until it starts handshaking
Hey wizard have you checked the pins inside the OBD socket on the car? sometimes they get bent/knocked loose, or the wire comes loose from behind a pin, have had this issue on 2 cars previously and first time it took me forever to figure it out.
I really appreciate the fact that the Car Wizard is willing to ask for help and accept suggestions when he feels he needs it. I'm a mechanic and I assume that many of you watching this video are as well and we all know how rare of a trait that is for a mechanic to possess. We all tend to act like know-it-alls and do-no-wrongs from time to time.
Especially these armchair mechanics on the internet lol
Absolutely. Never stop learning and being humble
@@EarthSouthside Exactly, was typing this
There's always room to learn, regardless of field/profession
@@EarthSouthside Amen,
Wizard, I had a similar problem as the one you are facing with the OBD port of the Lambo... No comm at all. Deeply inspecting we found out that the Abs pump had a short circuit and the Abs module burned. This was causing severe interference on the "K" line, what directly impacted the OBD connection. Try checking all modules (even disconnecting them) to check if the OBD comm comes back. In my case once the Abs module was disconnected, the OBD just started working again. Changed the Abs system and now everything is back to normal
i think the radio/head units were tied into the canbus around these years as well, that may be another place to start looking for shorts or bad wiring
@@ElT1greVerde Yes, in my case it was the first test... Indeed the radio has also a "K" line connection.... Why to make it simple when you can difficult everything, right?
You mentioned a blown fuse. Start with whatever component that fuse protects. As you know, blown fuses are symptoms not problems :). Godspeed Wizard!
...and confirm what was last serviced. Not that it's impossible for cable or connectors to break or short on their own, but most likely someone damaged them when removing or reinstalling something.
I had the can bus locked up on my TT. The headlight control module was water damaged. Keep disconnecting modules untill it starts communicating.
Someone mentioned a non standard head unit in the Gallardo. If that is the case, unplug it completely.
Have you tried plugging in the scan tool first, then turn on the ignition. Sometimes the port will not be activated if it does not see a connection at startup (plugging it in when ignition is already on).
Third: disconnect the battery, leave it at least 30min, reconnect and try again. Does a full reboot on the modules.
Everytime Hoovie gets an expensive bill. Some new sweet ride/boat ends up in the wizards ownership.. funny about that xD
Lol. True
Hoovie gets high on marijuana. The wizard gets high on hoovies cash LMAO
@@samholdsworth3957 🤣 🤣 🤣
You ment yacht
It's all hearsay! Purely speculation! There's no direct account from Tyler's payment to Wizard "fun" account! None!
You know, there are 2 definitions of master mechanic. 1. A person who has received their certifications. 2. A person who says, "You don't need to pay 10x as much for a Ferrari part, K5 blazer part works just fine"
Good thing you installed those car storage racks and bought that hoard of AV carts from the school district auction.
Seriously the surprise acting is academy award winning 😀
A moto guzzi is the road to divorce. Dump it Wiz...Mrs W is awesome..
I've run into the obd communication issue on domestics with the blown fuse issue. 1st check the pins of the obd port to verify nothing has been pushed back or enlarged preventing a good connection across the required communication terminals. 2nd, 0-10 ohms resistance on ground and 12v at the required pin. If unsure which is 12v source on obd plug do a resistance test from the fuse you replaced to the port pins. This also will indicate if the previous tech smoked the wiring along that path, like if you see 5v and not 12v and the resistance is in k-ohms.
Can we give some respect to that lambo owner for actually drive his car to the shop, instead of queen bed it?
Indeed
It didn't need a clutch when he left.
@@jaym8027 Bruh. Sometimes it best to tow the car. As you said, such long trip may cause new issues such as cracked windscreen.
I'm very impressed with Magic Mike's work on the 456. He indexes all of the hose clamps! Now that's attention to detail. 😉
Agreed, more Magic mike please.
That Gallardo owner must really like his car if he's willing to travel nearly 1000 miles just to fix it.
Anyone else would have just sold it already.
The car has some minor issues; no reason to sell it
And the guy had a good reason for a nice road trip 😊😎
He said that the car wouldn't communicate with any scanner tool, so that might be keeping it from being sold. I wouldn't buy a car that won't communicate with a scan tool
If you don't like driving your car what's the point of having it anyway
I have a couple exotics that I ship to a specific service shop. I'm a bit surprised he drove it instead of shipping it.
@@ultimatetrashgamer8495 I'd drive the cars to the shop, why do you ship them?
Need to get a scan tool that can talk vividly with it's hands 🤣
Obd3- Scotty Kilmer edition...
Car Wizard and Mrs. Wizard are so adorable ❤️
Every time I see the e-gear push buttons I can't help but think that on a friday afternoon someone said, "So, THAT's what we're replacing the stick with?"
Love the Guzzi! I'm just 35km from where it's built. It's probably the most historical motorcycle brand here in Italy. Maybe in the world. Do you know they have been the very 1st motorcycle company to own a wind tunnel back in 1954 and the very 1st one built in the whole Europe?
yeah i used to like one of their bikes, but changed country. they were nicer to drive than aprilias and obviously more comfortable than ducatis
That Alfa is beautiful, let us hear the Busso engine😍
Sounds better than the 456 imo.
your wife is a hoot! i love the banter between you two. Love your channel.
I love the little skit with Mrs. Wizard.,., sure it's scripted and awkward.. but it made me laugh out loud. Most of your skits are great actually!
And at the end of it.... I think mrs wizzard spoke her hart loud and clear (There was a change in tone to the real you better not...). 🤣 Loved it. 😊
🙄
So excited for the 308!
Excited for the 308 videos, glad to hear your shop is busy though that is a good thing!
hmm i see that the lambo has a aftermarket(chinese) head unit you could try and remove it since it surely has some canbus decoder shit that might interfere with your diagnostic tools and not let them connect to the car ecu
I install car audio at my shop, and I second unplugging the Chinese stuff until everything is sorted.
Errm that’s the oem Lamborghini sat nav made by Aisin, the car runs and drives so it may not be bus related, scoping the bus will help
@wizard shop
Great respect for your ability to work on a variety of italian cars....all of them exciting in their own way. Former Alfa 164 owner here!
"All of them exiting in their own way"-truer words have never been spoken. Each vehicle constantly 'exiting' the owner's garage & making their way back to the repair shop again.
But he can't. His video is about how he can't work on the Lamborghini.
Omega auto clinic rocks! Thanks for all the tips, tricks and honesty. Like a fine wine an honest mechanic is rare to find!
Man, said it before, i'll say it again. I regret letting go of my running & driving Alfa 164 for $700 bucks back in the day. Not the nicest example and the dash had a heap of lights on. But they're clearly becoming a classic to have.
A video of your ac cleaning service or procedure would be interesting...no secrets, just a tale of what is removed and what the benefits are. 👍
Great stuff guys thank you!
I agree I would love to see what is involved in doing this.
Wizard, if you ever need any older Alfa Romeo parts let me know. There’s a place here in Michigan that only works on older Alfa Romeos and he has tons of hard to find parts in stock along with tons of parts cars
WIZARD
BAHAHAHAHAHAHJAAHAHA
Love this channel..Greetings from Italy!
I love that it looks like you guys have a lot of fun shooting these. Also, I've learned more from your channel about cars than I ever expected. Thanks for the lessons :)
When your scanner is plugged check your mileage if you see FUSE flashing that means OBD port fuse is blown. It's located under the glove compartment. I don't remember which one it is but check them with a voltmeter. There should be a spare fuse down there you can use.
Wizard mentioned he replaced the fuse
That Gallardo interior, I'd call it vanilla & blueberries.
Berries and Cream even.
Blueberry cheesecake
@@ethanjones4678 Hmmm..... 🤨
If I could work on the Italian cars with Magic Mikes and The Car Wizards I would puff on the Cannabis Cigars and get all schmoked up.
The Alfa 164 and the Guzzi Norge are 2 rare gems to found in Kansas
Check the ODB2 connector. I had an issue with a Porsche that was caused by a poor connection at one of the pins. Took a long time to determine due to it being intermittent
Exactly I would look for a bent pin first
Definitely excited to see some more 308 videos.
Good luck
Lambo suggestion: In my country they change the pins of the OBD2 car female side so that a thief cannot connect to the car and steal it. Maybe the previous owner had changed some of the lines in the OBD2 port. When people do this in my country they use custom adapter or cable in order to connect to the car after the intervention. Yes, you get the issue that you have right now and this is exactly what you want of you do not want your car stolen.
do they sell shotguns in your country? I've never had a vehicle messed with and there is a 12 gauge handy in case anyone does. There is even a meth dealer a block away and his customers steer clear of my trucks. A very effective anti-theft system
@@nickwarner8158 If your car was of value and was parked outside in a populated area it will be stolen. And in Europe there are no guns really. Some exceptions, but in general no guns. Guns will not save your lambo if you park it in a public place. Try watch any youtuber who rebuilds exotic cars. They all buy "cheap" parts from "Latvia" ebay seller. "Seller". Guess who thieves make good easy money on stolen cars.
I just had a car I couldn't connect to Wizard . I put a battery charger on it and it did have a new battery in it by the way. But some of the ECM need good battery
^ this.
Thank you. AC compressor replacement fun stuff. Pull vacuum see if vacuum holds for few hours. Good vacuum pumps ain't cheap either never mind the cost of refrigerants. Rock on Kansas.
Hey Mr. and Mrs. Wizard, I absolutely love your content and the fact that you represent Kansas so well (I'm live here as well.)
I did have one tiny note that may be of use in editing though (feel free to disregard). With the shortness of the breaks in between scenes, the commercials tend to be shown after the first few frames of the next scene are shown. If you made that maybe half a second longer, I think it would help the cuts be a bit smoother. It's a tiny point but I just figured I would make it.
I'll keep on watching and liking no matter what!
When that 456 started up my subwoofer went crazy. What a beautiful motor.
Ok, 4 minutes in and I'm going to stick my foot in my keyboard mouth. I've seen some sensors, like coolant temp and such ground out and take the whole obd with it. Blow fuses too. Even seen an old fuseable link that looked good have extremely high resistance bring one of the 12 and 5 volt lines down far enough to cut obd out. As far as the Goose, Wiz ya fouled up! You have an Italian now. So the 308 must go to Ms. Wiz.
Now back to the video.....
Thank You Mr. Wizard for your TIME AND ENERGIES Here. ENJOY your Videos, learning LOTS. Am Disappointed that you are UN CANNONBALL the 308 GTB. It's is a Historical Artifact from a TIME that will Never Happen Again. I would have ENJOYED RESTORING it as a Showpiece for Cannonballers. Will build one myself, eventually. Again Thank You for being there, doing what you do best, Explaining to us.
You two have got the Mine-No, Mine argument down pat now, lol. The real mayhem 💥💥💥 will begin once your Italian supercar is back on the road! Can't wait 😀🖖🙏🇨🇦
I wanna see the wizard try some more Italian words... Although it sounds like Mrs Wizard was thinking about some French words after spotting the guzzi.
I always get a kick seeing a thoroughly Midwestern guy wrenching on exotics.
Lmao!
Yes, I think she was about to give him some good French Canadian church cussing! lol
Love watching the Wizard get more and more comfortable in front of the camera. I recently watched the first episode of the show he was on with hoovie and daammmnnn he's come along way.
Well the OBD port you said you changed the fuse, what is ok as the pre LP ones have other fuse a 5 amp one in the passenger kick floor fuse panel...so other issue sometimes.that causes that is an aftermarket stereo, but that one seems original, but stereo issues cam cause that... Odd..
I enjoy the addition of these interior segments with Mrs. Wizard! Keep 'em coming!
Love this channel.
My friends always told me Italy produced more bombs than the entire world. It just disguised them as cars.
*They were right :D*
As always, love what you’re doing. What’s going on with the Nissan Leef? Been looking forward to an ev episode.

"The next car we're going to talk about"...."its my car!"
🧐😳😂
Love the Alfa 164. Had one just like it,same color. Fantastic car.
Let's hear it for the Alfa Romeo 164. I owned three of them, two of them being the 2 litre Twin Spark and the last one was a 3 litre 24valve V6. As you can probably guess I just loved those cars. They were properly maintained, so guess what..they were reliable family cars that were always a delight to drive with quick steering and nimble handing ( The 2 litres were very nimble, the V6 less so, but not bad )
I usually plug in my OBD2 port test box, then start unplugging modules until it wakes up. Starting with the two modules that house the resistors usually.
If that doesn’t work, the fun starts with tracing wires to the area someone worked on it, or a bracket edge damaged the harness. Aka, not put back where it came from.
Whoa Moto Guzzi, nicceee can't wait to see that video 🤘🏽
The Norge got some good revues in the moto press.
I owned 3 164s back when. Definitely money pits. Nice to see this one getting some love. The Alfa / Ferrari dealer used to just bypass the clutch slave cylinder when those inevitably failed.
The clutch slave was a £60 item in the UK and it's all of an hour to change one. In fact I rebuilt a 164 slave with new seals that cost £7. It's not even a difficult job to do in your back yard ! Try it on a modern car and you will get a 700 dollar shock! I owned three also. Mine didn't cost that much to run, and I was lucky enough here in the UK to have a couple of Alfa " Car Wizards" who could do anything on Italian cars and charged very reasonably. Then the blighters retired. They were lovely helpful people and I miss them very much.
Man, how do you keep your cool? There’s no way you don’t have to deal with drama and “uninformed” or stupid customers or even parts vendors!!! You seem so chill, I envy you, I wish I had your demeanor.
my wife has a brownie recipe that will help you with that
NICE voiceovers, Mrs. Wizard!
Mrs Wizard's interjections always make me laugh!
Thanks for posting.
have you tried a scanner for a audi at the end of the day that Gallardo is a german car wrapped in a Italian skin
Just look at the odometer, it's VW through and through. I'm not saying that as a cut down or negative thing, it just looks the exact same in my TT
@@Uytgtthuyghu 💯 dude and I didn’t mean it as a negative thing either that’s why I said it because who knows that could do the trick and get the job done never until you try
Thanks Wizard and Mrs. Wizard, not sailing the high seas this weekend? Love the new bike, think you should get a Triumph Rocket III. Nice to see the Ferrari 308 coming along - my birthday is coming up.
Wow I just subbed and this video appeared, now thats some magic, wizard😎
Always look on the bright side of life...
Connect a scope to see the signal levels for H and L, when you connect the scanner it may become a load on the bus that disturbs the signal.. i would preferably put a high impedance monitoring scope to ECU output to see the messages on the bus between modules..
Great choice with the Norge. Imagine they are quite rare in th US as they are here in Australia. Of all the Italian bikes a Guzzi is what I lusted after the most, but sadly never got to own one before I decided to stop riding after being whacked by a car. Can't wait for the Norge video!
Ya gotta tell at them Lamborghinis, " Ay! Wassa matta you?"
It's angry cuz it didn't get enough lasagna for breakfast
I love seeing the 164L in your videos
Great content this episode. Thanks guys. That Gallardo Spyder is very nice
GUYS THATS AN AFTER MARKET RADIO IT WONT ALLOW K LINE COMS WITH THE ECU. HAVE THE OWNER TRACK DOWN A FACTORY RADIO OR JUMP K LINE. I BELEIVE ITS THE SAME RADIO AS THE B7 AUDI SYMPHONY 3. LAMBO****
Thanks!!
Love hearing Mrs Wizard's voice.
Yeah she seems pretty reasonable and nice
That Alfa V6 is one of the most beautiful engines ever.
Already seeing my few ideas in the comments. Unsure of what you've inspected, but my mind would point me to chasing the harness from odb2 port backward. The bent or pushed connectors. Check for power. A damaged wire. Connections entering the fusebox. And fuse connector itself? Ground! Not sure if it's none of those, it's stumped me and is probably into pcm issues. I'm sure the Wizard will work some magic.
Nice Guzzi, Wizard! I did a demo ride on a Norge when they first came out (2007 I think) and was really impressed.
Car Wizard I love your videos. You do a good job with your customers car. Especially if they own a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Alfa Romeo, etc.
On the Lambo with the communication issue I have experience a similar problem where the pins in the OBD2 port would get pushed out the back of the connector when connecting a scanner to it resulting in no communication with the car. The pins need to be pushed back into the connector and properly secured.
Magic mike just seems like the coolest guy ever
He's pretty quiet whenever I visit.
Thank you for the kind words!
isnt magic mike the chinchila per hoovie
It's canbus has become a carn't bus LOL I did have a similar problem on a BMW where one of the comfort access modules was bringing the canbus down. To diagnose it we used an oscilloscope to actually look at the signals on the canbus. I will tell you took a ridiculous number of hours to find what was making the module fail. Good luck!
Mrs Wizards car is coming on nicely.
I was just telling someone about driving home with no clutch. I start the car first in neutral. Then I start it again in first gear and carefully match the revs to the gear changes and pray you don't need to stop at a red light as you need to start again in first gear.
Car wizard I love your honest work and like in all your videos I wish someone like you was in nyc hard to find a good mechanic here
So glad your saving that 308. Cant wait to se it back on the street running well
Wow, .008 & .012 valve clearances? That's air cooled engine territory just like your Guzzi. Glad to see the 308 pop up again, I've been waiting for it and was hoping to see the Weber rebuild. Ahhhhh, the Guzzi, a V-twin done the proper way.
that 164 man that is treat
Fun to see the different 308s. Both Stanceworks and yours.
These videos are therapy. Thanks
Great job labeling the cabinets behind your new motorcycle. Is that spray paint on your amazon recommendations? :-)……….
Great video.
What a beautiful car amazing video. It's in good hands with the Wizard 🧙♂️ all the cars are beautiful
My last check engine light was $3000 on my Gallardo. $1000 oil changes, $3000 yearly checkups. Very dependable. No major problems
The fastest way to get datalink communications figured out is to unplug all modules one at a time. Provided voltage and resistance on the can wires are within spec. Also if you’re missing a terminating resistor or have an extra one that will cause that issue as well
love your videos! especially when you and your wife are on it. you guys are hilarious and love the stories. Mrs. wizard sounds like elastigirl from the Incredibles lol love it keep the videos comin!
Check the pins of the OBD for low (loose) pins. It happened for me on an italian job (Fiat 500). And put a charger on the batteri.
thanks wizard for the tour.
Great video, you make me want to buy an Italian exotic now that I’m aware of your awesome shop
Love it man super cool
An Italian motorcycle that doesn't need extensive repairs?.....just wait, Mrs Wizard!!!
The cruise control module on that Alfe looks like the kind I use to buy from J. C. Whitney back in the 70s and 80s.
It's a possibility the grounds for the various ECUs are not grounded correctly. Specially with the Spiders. Look under driver side seat carpet for water. If there is remove and evaluate. Hope it helps man. Good luck. Love your stuff. You ever want a service manager lemme know
Love that Ferrari 456, especially that British racing green/tan leather combo. Probably wouldn't own one unless I moved out west(like Nevada) where there are some incredibly straight roads where you can sit at 120mph all day long. Which is what this car was built for, cruise at 100 to 140mph for several hours.
Check the state the car is insured from. My state (Florida) full cover insurance, owner is authorized to have it fixed or replace for free, windshield.
Michigan is a no fault insurance state.
I am from the Detroit area. I'm curious what his experience was at the dealer here , which would have been at Lamborghini of Troy/ Suburban exotics that's the closest dealer. I go to Jaguar/Suburban of Troy in the same auto mall they quoted 17k for basically brakes , suspension , and to dive deeper into a stalling/possible throttle body issue. That's how the dealers are out here . I bet they told him some ridiculous number , otherwise why the drive? I would have took that loaner car and let the dealer figure it out.. I'm curious to what happened lol.
Ditto that’s why we watch
Before you change the Lambo windshield, check on the local windshield repair capabilities. Some folks can do amazing things with epoxy repair (drill and inject clear stuff).
