I ordered his vehicle card set. They got delivered July 28th, it's been about a month now and my 4 year old knows 75% of his letters both sounds and names upper/lower case. I also got his courses and can't wait til my son is blending letters. His courses are honestly so well thought out, you can tell he really puts in a lot of passion. If anyone is reading and second guessing, do it. SPENCER thank you for believing in our kids!
Thank you so much for this clear explanation. My 5 year old went to school crying this morning because she is having problems blending and is afraid she’ll get her reading all wrong in class. I’ve been having sleepless nights and frustrating evenings trying to help her...I’m abit more confident with your help...bless you.
They most definitely are, after this first week using your methods, I’ve seen much improvement and she’s become more confident in her reading. She got her first spelling test and was super excited because she only got one wrong. Thank you so much for sharing and helping us to help our kids.
I wish teachers (I am one) were taught to teach reading this way. We have been subjected to so many different trends in teaching reading since I started teaching, and none have been as straightforward and useful at this method!
I am trying to help my 5 year old granddaughter to read. You are so right, because she has a problem pulling the sounds together. I really do appreciation you. I will sign up for your free class, because I would like to teach other little ones to read. Thanks again!
This is so awesome. I see I'm on the right track to help my son. Thanks for sharing your opinions on sight words. I've been saying similar things for so long... probably because my dad had a phonics course for me YEARS AGO...and sight words were NOT part of the units.
Hi, I have 7 year old son with speech delay. He is struggling so much with reading in English also in our regional Indian language. After watching your idea it really help me understand where he is facing difficulties. I am going to follow your ideas. Thank you
So helpful it is. Thank you so much. I shared your series of 41 videos about Blending Words in a group of more than 3 hundred teachers and hope it would help them as it did to me.
We are at the stage 5 in reading, but with some long words we have problems. I guess i need to start with blending etc. Thank you so much, you gave me some ideas now. 🙏🏻
Hi bro , This is Yogesh here from Malaysia. My 3 years Daughter started to read fluently after watch your videos Thank you so much May God bless you abundantly ✨😇✨✨,
This is so brilliant. I think I will apply this rule to my learning of Greek. Instead of memorizing words, I should better learn first to blend letters, so that I can read the words whether I understand them or not.
I have a blogpost about tricky words/sight words here- www.google.com/url?q=www.toddlersread.com/blog/the-best-way-to-teach-sight-words?Dyoutube%26Dorganic%26Dblog&sa=D&source=editors&ust=1686691713936076&usg=AOvVaw2OU9e4N1AHkrBbuoGoJBDw
So I have a question (Forgive me if it has already been asked and answered, I have not looked through the entire thread). My child is 6 months and I am just preparing for the day to introduce reading. Seeing that there is more emphasis on the sound of a letter than the actual name of the letter, do you suggest skipping what the name of the letter is in its entirety and just go straight into the sound? And if so, when does the name of the letter get introduced? Thank you in advance.
My nephew in his 20s struggles to read. Should I start from scratch to teach him to read? I'm a retired nurse, midwife, health visitor with an honour's degree in Psychology and now a Montessori Preschool Teacher. Zimbabwe
Hey there! I honestly don't have a ton of experience with kids with auditory processing issues but would love to learn more about what y'all are doing/trying. Could you send me a DM on IG with more context?
This is so good! Especially when you told they are either trying to say the name or the sound. Bad thing about my kid’s school is they teach the letter names and not the sound, while I am trying to teach her sounds, she gets confused as crazy! What should I do in this scenario to help her read, instead of the school way of teaching? She is just 3 year old and I don’t want to confuse her or stress her at all. But I am sure she is developmentally ready to read, as she can communicate in full sentences and stitch stories etc.
The letters are shapes like triangles or squares. The letter shapes have names, so that we can tell other people which shape to write down. But when we are reading those shapes tell us what sounds to say. (Letters don’t make sounds, people make sounds.) Instead of “what does this letter say” try “what does this shape tell you to say”.
My 6 year old will guess based on the picture or one letter sound. She does know all of the single letter sounds so now we are going to practice 2 letter sounds at home. We played a game today based on another video. I put the letter A and a bunch of consonants for her to jump on them and say the sounds to make a word and she blended them together really well.
Next I will use the white board truck and probably alternate activities so we learn the sounds and practice blending in a fun way. I told her I had a fun new word game we could play either starting today or tomorrow. She said she wanted to start today. That way I didn’t throw her off by disrupting her routine. I gave her the instructions by telling her the A always has to be in the middle for this time and we would be focusing on at and ap ending sounds. She followed directions. So then I let her play her way. She wanted to remove letters after making words with them but the A always stayed. It went really well. I hope we can make progress and I can boost her confidence. Thank you!
Hey When I teach my children the signs do I have to tell them what the name of the letter is For example, when teaching the letter s, do you also have to say its name? Or just her sound?? Best regards

My toddler can read all the sounds but dont still know how to blend two sounds. He knows his sounds well, i have tried to let him say them loud but still no way. I am tired 😢😮😮.
Hello👋I would come up with word/ words that give the sound for i such as igloo or iguana. Then ask my child what’s the beginning sound that he heard me say. I would do the same thing with e. For example I would say egg or elephant and ask for the beginning sound, also. The word/ words beginning letter give the sound of each ( i and e). This is how I work with my child and he gets it. It is patience and lots of creativity. You and your little one got this. I hope this helps. Remain blissful, always. Blessed be!

Glad I found this page . Going to start from
Day one to see what she knows
I started with a vowel and consonant blending chart! That helped my son start to understand blending

I've been tutoring reading to elementary students for a good while now, and this is by far one of the best explanations of why kids can't read well.
Your videos are very very helpful as now a days I’m teaching my 5 year old son how to read and blend
Thanks alot
Have you worked with anyone with an auditory processing disorder do you have any tips? My daughter is having trouble with sounds and blending

thank you for the help Spencer 🥰
Any time!
Thank you very much for these tips. I've been frustrated. Going to try.
So good, so helpful
Thank God I found you
Great job
How do you convince them not to fight against illogical English language?

My child is in first grade. Cannot read, it's so disappointing to witness that. She's frastrated too
Here after bedtime because I’m trying to help my son learn better. He’s so frustrated😢 so thank you for this
Very helpful, thank you
You're welcome!

Wow excellent video
Very insightful
Thank you!
do you by chance have any suggestions on teaching how to read with dyslexia
I wrote more about that here www.toddlersread.com/blogs/tcr-blog/do-my-courses-work-for-children-with-learning-differences
Repetition helps! I taught a student to read and it worked by using repetition
In my country, children who are used to their regional language, for them English reading is highly challenging even for 14 years old
When we are introducing sounds to kids, should we tell them about letter names too? Is it okay for them not knowing letter names?
Thanks!
I like to start with sounds first and introduce names after, but that’s up to you!
Everything u said I was like yeah my kid is that kid but my kid is in 3rd grade thanks for ur video will be applying all ur advice thanks
Wow!

This is especially difficult for kids who have learned another language first. Spanish and even Russian have conflicting sounds with those letters.
Could someone recommend a video or website that has the pronunciation that already teaches this step by step?
I have 3 courses that teach parents how to teach reading step by step: www.toddlersread.com/pages/courses
My kid is 3 and knows the sounds can I start teaching him how to read
