it's a shame not more people have seen this video. the musicianship is extraordinary, the song is great, and then, there's Alison. what more could you want?
Tony Rice, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush and Allison se escucha excelente, ojala pueda estar Bela Fleck y Mark Oconnor como en el festival 1988, un saludo desde El Salvador amigos
It definitely is, VERY well done.. and I'm glad Gordon Lightfoot is at least mentioned somewhere here, as it is his song after all. Is he even mentioned anywhere in the video?
@@esoxenvy3112 No he’s not mention. I’ve always loved this song. I first heard it on Tony Rice is 1988 album Native American. In fact and Tony’s 1986 album Me and My Guitar, five of the 12 songs recorded were written by Gordon Lightfoot. Such classic songs that lend themselves to a bluegrass interpretation. Speaking of Tony, it’s too bad when it came to his solo spot in this video the camera did not zoom in. His playing style is quite a thing to see up close.
as someone whose played music for 16 years and plays many genres and has heard many things, i can say that without a doubt, this is the most beautiful piece of music i’ve ever heard. i will never forget the time i first heard this song
I think the reason is because Tony dubbed in a different break than what the camera actually showed. If you watch some of what the camera did grab then you can tell, hes not really playing what he laid down so. I think he went and redone the solo. Could be wrong but that is what I believe happened. Tony did struggle a lot in later years with his solos. Granted what he plays is absolute gold, but he may not have been happy with the original solo.
Allison, known for her vocal chops, was the Illinois State Fiddle Champion in 1983 at the age of 12! She is a flat out virtuoso who surrounds herself with such great musicians that she often defers to Tony or Jerry or whomever when it comes time for the solos. So, make the songs a little longer, but Alison needs to play more fiddle. So says me, and lots of others, I'll bet.
...once again, tone-deaf people in charge of camera work can't manage to capture Tony's solo.....when will we ever have people with EARS doing the video??
RIP Tony Rice
Tony Rice my guitar hero, and beautiful angelic Alison Krauss doing a Lightfoot song...RIP Tony..
Beautiful RIP Tony
There is a spot reserved for Alison on heaven's choir...no doubt in my mind.
With all of the instruments playing. I can clearly hear Tony ringing through. I miss you, my old friend.
Perfect performance by some of my most beloved musicians...thank you all
There is so much greatness exposed in this one video. It's breathtaking!!
This is peak acoustic music
This touches my soul..
The best album that never was...
Tony's melodic playing is so advanced with all the rhythmic nuances. That is the sound and structure i strive to put into my bluegrass solos.
Legend.
Damn, pretty much perfect on by all accounts.
Sweet and bittersweet. But such a beautiful recording.
Simply beautiful!!
Love this Lightfoot song. I really love this version. You guys are great. Allisons voice is made for this song.
Simply sublime. Exquisite vocal and supreme musicianship !
I have loved this song for decades, 1975. still a great song and they do it well.
Magic....
Thank you Gordon for a great song. It was good on Tony's album and of course Gordon's and now Alison's.

The mix on this recording is incredible.

Lightfoot back from the brink, Rice and Krauss. It couldn't get much better.
Ah beautiful rendition of the great Gordon Lightfoot’s song.

Brilliant musician that I had a chance in my life to listen and enjoyed God bless forever ❤❤❤
That was just beautiful, so moving! I would love to hear an entire album of Alison and Union Station performing Gordon Lightfoot’s songs!

Great version! Too bad the camera didn't catch a CU of Tony's solo...

Excellent video but I found myself yelling at the camera man during Tony's solo...
me too!
Looks like during that session they were just doing rhythm. They probably overdubbed that solo. I don't know why they didn't film it though....
this so gob smackingly beautiful....
Simply beautiful, lovely every second of that was beautiful what talent and what musicians fantastic
Wow.
Perfect. Allison and the band sound angelic.
Exquisite!!
That is beyond fabulous !

Don’t think I’d ever seen this version before. Thank you so much for this! One of my favorite tunes Tony did.

Probably an overdub is my guess
Blam it on the editing......
Tony had an aversion to seeing videos of his playing on youtube. He may have requested that his instrument not be filmed closely.
Why so few if any close ups on Tony’s picking and fretting?
Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss and Vince Gill. they all have something in common, their voices are all almost the same, high pitch
What studio was this recorded in?
what is this from? I'd love to see the whole thing if possible?
Alisson Krauss DVD: A hundred miles or more
can someone identify the mics used here?
Shes a stellar indvidual. Miss Alison Maria Krauss. ♡ @jamesw.mooreOFFICIAL
What year was this, please? Thanks.
A Hundred Miles Or More: Live From the Tracking Room DVD was 2008
What video is this clip from?
It's called A Hundred Miles or More
The video miss on Tony's solo is just...criminally bad production. Wow.
Alison's vocal renditon was great .But Tony's solo had to be the Top Highlight !!
A string band, and not a violin, cello or violin in sight. Wrote post before Allison's picked up the fiddle
