one of the reasons why belgian chocolate tastes like chocolate because the government once, to protect the colony's growers, determined by law that chocolate must contain a certain minimum percentage of cocoa in order to be called chocolate. This law still applies. in other countries, color and flavorings are added more often, making it cheaper to produce, but less tasty.
Totally true! The part Congo played in Belgian chocolate production and development was all in all fairly minor (even though it played a huge part in other aspects of Belgian wealth and development).
To be complete: It is about quality: best pick of cacao beans, very good quality of milk and it's about strict rules: %of cacao for milk- and dark- chocolate AND only using cacaobutter for fat where other countries make the chocolate more cheap by using saturated cheap fats that also make the chocolate less sensitive for melting. Cacaobutter melts at body temperature - which makes it excellent for body cosmetic products.

Lol, I am from Belgium and I can confirm that good Belgian chocolate is expensive and with good chocolate, I don't mean Leonidas or Merci but I mean Persoons. It's the best chocolate you'll ever eat. But it also might be the most expensive.
My favorite is from Mary's. Also on the expensive side but so good. Def the best Belgian chocolate I have eaten.

My dad’s an architect in Belgium and he HATES our houses. He gets frustrated wherever he gets cause people have such ugly houses. It’s also because we’re free to design our house so they look completely different from eachother. Houses in the cities are very beautiful tho our ‘herenhuizen’ are gorgeous.
I think you are very right but there is also another factor: Belgians LOVE to build their own house even though they do not have any professional knowledge ;-) So they just put something together that has no style but is easy to build. And yes some of the Belgians just are weird :-p But on the other hand some Belgian houses are sheer palaces and ultimately impressive.. because there are also VERY rich Belgians.. that hire the best builders. Just drive around in the border region of Belgian - The Netherlands..
@@Dutchbelg3 true that. But still most houses are pure horseshit hahah. But it is tru though, i know a couple Belgians that build their own houses. All by themselves, really impressive though, but really ugly. Still its nice we have the freedom to do whatever we want with our houses.

You could see she was a bit lost. Multilingual Belgians ? French (speaking) people are notoriously unilingual. Ugly Belgian houses ? French houses are just dilapidated. Good Belgian chocolate and beer ? Not a speciality of France, despite their renowned cuisine.

I,am from the Netherlands and when i drive to Belgian. I never wachts for the sine, bicores you can feel it.
I can see why the Dutch are so well known for their knowledge of English... Let me translate: I am from the Netherlands and when I drive to Belgium I never watch out for the border sign because I can feel it when I change to the Belgian highway.. (because the condition of highways is worse..)
Actually that is correct. The reason is that Belgium is too complicated in political structure. Before any one can make a decision at least 3 but usually more political structures have to be consulted and signatures need to be put on paper. And making compromises is not the strong point of Belgium...

Flemish isn't a language, it's the same like saying Americans speak American while they speak English.
Linguistically, Limburgish is the only thing that could be considered an actual different language but isn't due to historical reasons.
