      Yes, it rains a lot in Belgium! His opinion is relative to where he has lived, while yours is based only on whether or not 2020 was a very rainy year compared to others. You are not speaking about the same thing.

    About the weather : I visit Bremen (northern Germany) a lot and I can honestly say in Belgium it rains less and it's warmer in general. My German friend also confirms this. And about the food : not all our food is based on potatoes. And potatoes can be tasty too. And yes, Flemish people might seem cool at first but they would do anything for their friends if you get to know them. The food in supermarkets is indeed more expensive than in Germany, but there houses are more expensive.

    Nice video i really enjoyed it. I am also an international student (Albanian) studying in Brussels.
    Regarding living expenses i feel like they are the cheapest compared to other big cities nearby like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London or Paris. I would highly recommend shopping on the big Carrefour or Delhaizes and Sunday markets. Also rent is a LOT of cheaper compared to the cities i mentioned above. The biggest issue i have with Brussels is not it is not very clean (most areas) and like 1/4 of the city is not that safe during the night (pre covid times).

    • @koji2682
      @koji2682 2 года назад +7

      Hi! Some tips n tricks from a Belgian, our income tax is pretty high indeed, but you get one of the best healthcare, education, and financial help there is. We have a lot of options for people who are struggeling etc. Our housing would be considered average. On top of your income, there is a tax from the 'gemeente' you live in, these are on average 7%.
      Beglium has really pretty cities and loads of medieval and early industrial monuments, buildings etc. I personally adore Durbuy and Bruges. We speak a lot of languages and enough english that everyone can communicate with you. 6 million people speak dutch and 5 mil speak french. There is some German too. Depending on where you'd live, the more West you go the heavier the accent gets (unless you are in bigger cities). The public transit is for the most part pretty good too. The public safety at night is good and wehave trust in each other (ofcourse there are regions where it's not so good).
      The downsides would be the taxes ofcourse. Our roads can be pretty shitty, but not that it's so bad you can't drive on it haha. Other downsides i cannot think of right now, you'll have to come visit to make these up for yourself :)
      lmk if u have questions!

    French depends but some of us despise it because French people mostly except us to adapt to them when they're here because they view their language as superior, which makes lots of people think back about the days that French was force fed becuxe wallonia was the big money maker back in the day.

      @@KaanCatalpinar English always is a safe bet with the younger generations. The older they are the least likely they are to speak it, but even younger ones who can't speak it well understand it to some degree and can comlunicate with a few words here and there and lots of hand gestures lol. Just remember: Try to speak the few Dutch words you know when in Flanders, it makes people mor eprone to help when they see you do effort, no matter how rubbish that might be every effort is appreciated. And English will help for the other bits with younger people untill people around their 40's and after that it really depends on the person.
      But I'd like for some more Turkish guys like you around here who act like a normal person. Turkish women I know are mostly sweet and really fun, but alot of their men are like living in the Middle Ages and have this view where the women should stay home in the kitchen with the children to name one example lol. And I notice how alot of their children tend to have zero respect for others because they are too spoiled and their parents never correct them if they do something wrong.
      Hope I'm not offending anyone by saying this, it's just some things I tend to notice. There's ,rotten apples everywhere, so ofcourse also here. But I don't see any problem for people who adapt and mingle with others, as long as Belgians don't feel like their culture or safety is threatened they open up eventually, but it always takes some time because they like to take baby steps towards a strong bonding. ;)

      @@dennisengelen2517 I don't wanna take it personally but we shouldn't generalize none of these. I HATE these middle-ages minded people wherever they come from. There are numerous ignorant and biased people in Turkish community (In Europe) but it doesn't change the existence of intellectuals who live or born in Turkey. Politics might show the opposite but I am certainly one of them who was able to graduate from the best university in Belgium in Master's degree. Of course I don't need to prove anything but we are both right in some extents. I just suggest you to meet these kinds of visionary Turkish people too and we can learn something from each other. P.s.: the best way to win and integrate those people is incentives for better non-racial systems, not excluding them from the society. Flemish people are cold? I have lived in Belgium and I disagree with you. Flemish people speak English very well, while Walloon people don't even try. Also, you have to took at the history of Belgium. For centuries Flemish culture and language was oppressed by the French-speaking part. Maybe that's why they are a bit more 'distant' in the beginning. But I found them to be very friendly and warm! Flemish cities are WAY more clean, safe and modern compared to Wallonia and Brussels. It's just a more enjoyable place imo. My advise to anyone coming to Belgium: skip Brussels and go to Antwerp! :)

    I'm a belgian citizen and I think my country is really boring and despressing. Also many other Belgians would agree with me. It's hard to explain and to really understand why many people think Belguim is boring you need to live there expierence it yourself. You took just a few examples of people who are proud of being belgian but the reality is the majority of belgians are not really patriotic and proud of their country. That's why belgian people like to be multi cultural because we find our own country so boring that we absolutely need to specify that we have origins from other countries. I'm a belgian from moroccan descent and when people ask me where i'm from i would always say Morocco as i'm refering to my ethnic country but my nationality is still belgian. It's just that i find my country so boring that i'm ashamed to express that i'm from Belguim. The majority of belgians are just like me and that's why a lot of people here are depressed. It also doesn't help that we barely get any sunshine. You might say that having a lot of rain has not a lot of impact but in reality it has a really strong impact on the people's psychological health. That why also many people leave to go back to their ethnic countries and almost every person that i know has done that and they always felt happier in their ethnic countries and were way healthier. Many people that live here have psychological problems and when you visit belguim on a normal work day in the middle of the year you can immidiatly notice very low morals among the children adults and seniors.

      @KaanCatalpinar  2 года назад

      Thank you for your comment. At some point, you are right that Belgians are kind of depressive and the weather affects people's mood. However, we shouldn't forget that Belgium isn't in the north of Europe and there are many countries on the upper north side. Therefore, there can be different reasons other than the weather such as the system or economy. The richness in the culture is quite important and you are lucky that you have a second identity that doesn't directly make you happy but brings you a possibility of awareness of different countries and their cultures.
