Watch a familiar-looking group of teenagers finding themselves being stalked by a more-than-vaguely recognizable masked killer. As the victims begin to pile up and the laughs pile on, none of your favorite scary movies escape the razor-sharp satire of this outrageously funny parody. Everything begins when one night, 18-year-old Drew Decker (Carmen Electra) receives a threatening phone call while home alone. She is then chased outside by somebody dressed as Ghostface, who ends up stabbing her and slitting her throat. Following this tragedy, Cindy Campbell (Faris) realizes that Drew was murdered exactly one year after she and her friends accidentally killed a man.

@@offspringfan1288 I saw The Usual Suspect and still didn't expect it to be Doofy at the end. Scary Movie blended many movies together and made so many references. With Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer being the primary movies they were referencing, I thought the primary antagonist being revealed at the end would be more similar to that. Instead it was Doofy with a scene inspired by The Usual Suspect.
For such a silly and unserious movie this is honestly one of the best plot twists out there

It's based on the ending of The Usual Suspects, where the police agent investigating suddenly realizes Verbal made up the entire story from things in his office, including Mr. Kobayashi from a Kobayashi porcelain mug, and as they realize this, Verbal is seen losing his limp (he had pretended to suffer from cerebral palsy all along) and flexing the hand he had pretended was disabled, before driving away with his associate as the agent shows up just too late.

One thing I loved about the first Scary Movie is that, despite being really goofy, they took the production values and cinematography seriously, so, looks wise, it could totally pass as a Scream movie.

This legit blew my mind as a kid. Even as an adult this was and still is a fantastic, hilarious and smart twist ending, it's so good it puts other "real" horror movie twists to shame

What I actually love about this is that in the original scream, it was famous for its incredible twist of two killers. Back in the day NOBODY expected that and everyone was shocked. Now, watching this as a parody we all thought it would have been just a funny parody, but they kept the one thing that made the original amazing: the twist, and since we weren’t expecting it it was mind blowing
The fact that Cindy is in front of the desk but moves the mug away from it just to let it fall is just a subtle, sweet joke
plus the goldfish flopping around like it was inside the mug the whole time

It’s still a good movie, and it can be interesting to watch it in spite of knowing the twist ending, so you can see the clues and how all the pieces fit together in the end. Plus, it has a strong cast. But obviously the twist is a key part of the first watch of any film of that ilk

For a silly spoof movie, I always felt that this was actually a legit good twist ending.
Edit: Since people keep bringing this up, I know it's a parody of The Usual Suspects. The reason why it's a good twist ending is because nobody who watched the film expected Doofy to be the killer who was only posing as a mentally challenged man the entire time. His complete "transformation" really drives it home which I felt was actually more visually jarring than Kevin Spacey's more subtle transformation from Verbal Kent to Kyser Soze as the "Doofy" actor somehow managed to look like a completely different person simply by changing his physical mannerisms

I think this ending is part of the reason why as a kid I always used to think that scary movie, was the actual real Scream movie lmao didn't realize till I was older that they were 2 separate things.
It also doesn't help that the original Scream is spoofing horror movies as well. So that mix up makes sense ;D
I actually watched Scary Movie before seeing Scream, so when David Arquette's character says, "This badge means I'm an officer of the law" I started laughing my ass off because I immediately thought of Doofy.

For Scream, it makes fun of the horror slasher genre in general. Making references throughout the film along with commentary regarding how silly many of the major tropes of the genre are. Scary movie is highlighting specific tropes for specific films. For example, the intro to Scary Movie was mocking the intro to the original Scream, using specific references to the one movie itself, as opposed to the horror genre as a wide scope. Another example is Watchmen, it was a satire because it was mocking superhero tropes generally throughout the book, while the film Superhero Movie made light of specific scenes from specific superhero films, making it a parody. Another thing is that parodies always use humor to make commentary, satires can use humor but it isn't a necessity. Parodies have to be funny to make effective commentary, satires don't and they have more freedom to take different approaches for said commentary. So, not all satires are comedies, but parodies are.

Nobody ever talks about the part of the twist of how Gail was almost definitely in on the whole thing since the start when she slept with Doofy for info and then was right there to pick him up at the end. (Plus she was last seen running from the killer that killed the camera man. Makes no sense for her to be alive if she wasn’t in on it)

@@vriiite Maybe people think of it as scriptwriting stupidity which is common in horror films. Several films trick the audience in the same way, but scary movie is a parody film, making people think this is not a well-scripted film and miss some of the oddities in the film.
Even though this is a parody movie, this is one of the most surprising twists in horror cinematic history. To go from the mentally challenged unwanted cop, to the cool guy mastermind is insane, and it was well executed and unexpected. 🔥
That's why the Wayans Bros are legends. In the movie Scream, they did have scenes where Dewey was giving Sydney like weird and creepy smirking, almost making it look like he could be the killer but not quite. With the Wayans Bros, they actually made a superb plot twisting ending with Doofy as the killer. And they did with following a cross between Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, storyline cross. Geniuses. I like how even though this movie was pure comedy, they manage throw a little, Mystery in there. Same in part 2, pure comedy but threw some Horror into the pot with a couple of jump scares, with the clown under the bed, and the mistress killing the Professor.
I wish the film took itself a little more seriously in terms of restraint on some of the over the top in your face obvious comedy made for 12 year olds to laugh at and nonsense moments which ruin a great horror film...like the scene where brenda gets stabbed in the theater was not that funny and could of been the 3 ghostfaces in the crowd with masks on stabbing her and getting away with it instead and they didn't need the matrix stuff riverdance mid air or the insane way the red hair girl is still talking after her head is removed...get rid of that stuff...it wasn't funny....hailstorm shooting the guy should of not ended up with him dying show him moving so it's funny and makes more sense make her shoot him in the leg cause he's groping her so it's self defense..you take some of that stuff out it works..the sex stuff is also weird in the film and not funny

For a comedy & spoof movie, it had the best ending twist than some actual thriller movies been made last 20 years. Although it was Usual Suspects parody; this was by far best surprise twist we had & left the cinemas satisfied to paid for a pretty good comedy spoof movie. And he was good looking & got Gail too; which we didn't expect

I love how this twist works as a legit twist. You initially think it's a rip on dumb cops in horror movies, the mentally challenged, or both, and not a spoof on the whole "last person you expect" trope some of these movies have adapted.
